A/N Just a couple of small things, for this A/N. This chapter is one of the shorter ones, I've put out recently, and heheheh you may hate me when this chapter is over (j/k). Other than that, there'll be an announcement or two coming up in some future chapters, but for now, let go with something I haven't done in a while. I don't own any of the Big Bang Theory characters, not even Dr Samuels, as she appeared in the episode where it was found that Howard and Bernadette were going to have a boy. So, enjoy.

Chapter 44

Sunday 01 March 3:00 PM

"What do you mean, they don't fit?" said Penny, sounding puzzled. "Didn't you measure them before we bought them?"

"Yeah, I did," said Leonard, sounding frustrated.

"Then how do they not fit?" asked Penny.

"I didn't take the arc of the door, into account," said Leonard, miserably. "So, the space where I was going to put a changing table isn't big enough. If I move that, then there's no room for the dresser."

"How could you not do that?" asked Penny, accusingly. "That's pretty stupid."

"What do you mean, that's pretty stupid?" said Leonard, his voice rising. "Do you think this is something I do all the time, or do you think I did it on purpose?"

"You're so smart, I would think you would take how the damn door opens into account," said Penny, loudly. "Even I know that, as uneducated as I am."

"Of course I can think about how doors open," said Leonard, angrily. "I just forgot to put it on my drawing."

"Well, what about these other two pieces," asked Penny, angrily, pointing at the other items, in the middle of the room.

"Well, I didn't look at how the walls are broken up with windows and closets, "

"Great, so now we have all these pieces that don't fit in the room," said Penny sarcastically. "What are we going to do now?"

"How the hell do I know," snapped Leonard. "I can't even think about doors, or so you said."

"Oh, so it's my fault, then," yelled Penny. "You know what, you fucked it up, you fix it."

"Okay, I will," yelled Leonard. "I didn't ask you to come in here, to yell at me. Just get out, and let me do it."

"Fine, I will," said Penny, now feeling stressed, so she turned and left.

Leonard watched her leave then turned and looked at the room, threw up his hands, and said softly, "What the hell am I supposed to do?"

Sunday 01 March 6:00 PM

Leonard came out of the twin's room and walked out to the living room. He had not been able to find a way to fit everything into the room and was now checking to see if a couple of things would fit, by the window, back where they had put the dining table before Sheldon objected.

As he walked past, he saw Penny ignore him, and continue eating a salad, and watching some romantic movie on TV. I guess I get my own dinner tonight. Getting up to the area, and looking around, he thought I guess the changing tables would fit up here, but what good would changing tables or bassinets do out here, if the kids were in the bedroom.

He decided that putting them out here, wasn't such a good idea, and the hell with doing anything else tonight. He went to the kitchen, made a couple of sandwiches, added a couple of pickles, grabbed a beer, and took it over to his computer. He turned it on, signed in, and checked his email, and search the internet for some solutions, while he ate.

Penny watched TV until almost 9:30 PM, before getting up and walking up the hallway. She didn't say a word and did not look happy, thought Leonard, and she didn't speak to me all night. Well, this argument isn't all my fault, so I'm not caving. At 10 PM, Leonard shut off his computer, took his dishes to the sink, and washed off his, and also did the ones Penny left in the sink.

Afterward, he locked the door, shut off the lights, and prepared for bed. Penny was already in bed, with the lights off, when he entered the bedroom. She was laying on her left side, with her back toward the center of the bed. What he didn't see were her eyes, which were open.

This isn't all my fault and if that's how she wants to play it, I can too. Leonard used his phone for light, got into bed laying on his right side to keep his back toward Penny. But, he was struggling to fall asleep, so they just both laid there, awake, with their backs toward each other.

Monday 02 March 7:30 AM

Leonard had gotten up first and had already gotten his coffee. He was now standing by the island, in his red robe, drinking it. He heard the toilet flush, and shortly, Penny came down the hallway, yawning. After the yawn, she said, "It's been five years, and I'm still not used to getting up this early."

Leonard didn't say anything, he just took another sip of coffee.

Penny looked at him, "Look, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gone off on you like that. It's just, you always have a plan, and now we have all this stuff and no place to put it, and I guess I got frustrated."

"I know, I shouldn't have yelled back at you, I'm sorry, too," said Leonard.

Penny walked over to Leonard, and they hugged, both whispering "I'm sorry." After a kiss, Penny went over to the cupboard and got a coffee mug, and came over to the island and poured a cup. She took a sip, ahhhhhh, it's great being able to drink at least one cup in the morning, without getting sick, she thought, then said, "Now, without yelling at each other, what are we going to do?"

"I don't know," said Leonard. "I came out here last night, to look up there." He was pointing to the area that had held the dining table and now had a desk. "But, what are we going to put there? The dresser? Their clothes will be in their room, so no. There's not enough room, for both the cribs, and we need to keep the bassinets closer than that. And we'll need the changing tables. I'm going to have to think about this."

Penny looked thoughtful, running over what Leonard had just said, before saying, "Why don't we just leave everything where it is, for now, and think about what we can do. When we figure it out, that's when we do something about it."

"That sounds good," said Leonard. "As long as we don't spend more than four months or so doing it."

Penny chuckled, "Yeah, I guess we will have to have everything done, by the time I give birth. Okay, I'm going to get my shower." Penny put her mug down and walked off.

Leonard watched her go, she still looked beautiful to him, even though her belly was now visibly protruding. From behind, he thought she still looked the same as she had for years. He could see the pregnancy glow, that she had. He smiled at that and poured another cup of coffee.

Monday 02 March 12:50 PM

Penny pulled into the parking lot and saw that Leonard was already there. She got out of her car and entered the facility, and checked in, before going to sit by Leonard. It was just a few minutes before the nurse came out and took Penny into the back to get her blood work done, along with her blood pressure, and weight checked.

Penny was back in about five minutes and five minutes later, Dr Samuels came out, and Leonard and Penny followed her to her office. They sat down and waited as Dr Samuels looked over some papers.

"You're doing well, Penny," said Dr Samuels, continuing to look at the papers. "You've gained 16 pounds, which is in the range of low-normal. In an average twin pregnancy, we like to see about a 24 pound gain, at 24 weeks, but normally we see anywhere from 20 to 28. At an average gain of one and a half pounds a week, another four weeks would be six pounds, putting you at 22 pounds. Like I said, well within a normal weight. Your blood pressure is good, all your blood work is within normal limits, and most importantly your sugar and A1C are normal. So, I have to say, good job."

Leonard smiled at Penny, who also smiled.

"Now, as I said at your last appointment, we have your mid-pregnancy scan today," said Dr Samuels. "Or, you may have seen it called an anomaly scan. We are going to look for problems today. Based on previous scans, I don't expect to see any. But, it is important to check. We also expect to be able to determine the sex of the babies today. Do you want to know?"

Leonard and Penny nodded, with Penny saying, "Yes, we do want to know. We decided knowing would be more helpful, than not knowing."

Dr Samuels smiled, "Good. I'll let you know before you leave today. I won't be doing this ultrasound. As this is a specialized scan, you'll see Beth again, and she'll perform it. Afterward, I'll talk to her, and then we'll talk, okay?"

Leonard and Penny nodded and Dr Samuels picked up the phone and said, "They're ready."

About thirty seconds later, Sue, the previous nurse for Beth, came in and asked them to follow her. Leonard and Penny did, and they were taken to the same room, and Penny was asked to get up on the examination table, with Leonard sitting next to her in a chair.

It wasn't very long before Beth came in and said, "How are the Hofstadter's doing today."

Both Penny and Leonard said fine.

Beth continued, "So, today, we have the anomaly scan. These normally take about thirty minutes, but since we have two babies, it will be a bit longer." A smirk appeared on Beth's face, "On the bright side, we won't be doing an intravaginal, and there are no needles involved. Any questions?"

Penny and Leonard shook their heads, no. So Beth went to the machine, it looked quite a bit different from the previous one thought Penny, and started it. Sue changed the dial position, and put some lubricant on the sensor. Beth then put it on Penny's belly, started moving it around.

On the screen, was a grey blob, with black surrounding it. Beth explained the dark area was the amniotic fluid. The grey was the baby itself. Beth changed some of the settings, and it came into sharper focus. Leonard and Penny could see the baby had both its hands, over its eyes. Penny looked like she was going to cry, "Awwwwww, Leonard look, it's playing peek-a-boo."

"That's normal, their hands move around," said Beth. "Let's see if we can get a shot of the whole body." Beth changed the setting again and the whole baby came into view on the screen. It was less focused, but Leonard and Penny could see the whole thing, it was a view from the side.

"Okay, now we have to do the checks," said Beth. "We will be checking on various possible problems, with the babies. All of them very rare, so please don't worry. I'm not sure how much this will interest you, as it's just going to look like slices, as we check for everything."

Beth tried to explain what they were looking at, but Leonard and Penny soon lost interest as it made no sense to them. The second baby's lower abdomen and legs were behind the other baby, but from what they could see, it appeared very similar to the first one. Beth had quickly moved on to the boring parts of the test.

After fifty minutes, Beth turned the machine off, and Sue gave Penny wipes, and a towel to clean up. Beth said, "Everything looks good, I'm going to talk to Dr Samuels, and she'll talk to you. I hope I won't see you again."

Both Penny and Leonard look puzzled by that remark.

Beth smiled, then explained, "The only time I'll need to see you after today, is if there's a problem. So, I hope I won't see you again, and congratulations and good luck with your two babies."

Leonard and Penny nodded and smiled, and Beth left the room. Penny used the wipes to clean off her belly, then dried it with the towel. Leonard helped her sit up and a few minutes later, Sue came in and took them back to Dr Samuel's office. Dr Samuels came in with a folder and a smile on her face. She sat down, and looked through the folder, then stopped and looked up at them.

"Well, everything is normal," said Dr Samuels. "We checked for any problems we would be able to see, and we didn't see any of the. Beth did measure the head and abdomen circumference, along with the length of the femur, for both babies, and calculated their weight, and here's what we have."

"One is ten and a half inches and the other is 9 and three-quarters inches long. The bigger one is 11 ounces and the smaller one is just under 10 ounces, both are about the size of a small banana. Their heads are about seven inches around, the size of an egg, and their bellies are about six inches around. Now, don't be alarmed with one being bigger. In twins, one is usually bigger by a small amount. All these measurements are well within normal, for twenty weeks."

Leonard and Penny smiled at that.

Dr Samuels continued, "More seriously, we checked for quite a few genetic conditions that could be a problem, but found nothing. All the internal organs look good, the bones, just everything. Your two ah…er, babies are fine. We also checked the placenta and it's in its best position, near the top of your uterus, and toward the back. That way it won't be in the way during birth."

"So, the recap of this appointment is you, and your babies, are in great shape. Your pregnancy is moving along and with half of it over, you are in a great position. So, whatever you have been doing, keep it up."

"I have some images here," said Dr Samuels. "Beth mentioned you liked the one where the hands were over the eye, so here, have this one." She passed an image over to Penny, of the baby with its hands over its eyes.

Dr Samuels passed another image over, and said, "Here is the image of the second baby. You'll note that the first one is from the side, and this one is from the front. However, the second one only has from the waist up, the other baby was blocking it a bit."

Leonard spoke up, "So, the one was on the side and the other could only be seen from the waist up, so we won't know the sex?"

Well, since we know they are identical, if we find the sex of one, we'll know the sex of both. Beth was able to use a different setting, and a different position, to see the second baby from a slightly different angle, and she was able to determine the sex. Now, do you have any questions?
