Author's Note: Yay, 200 review party! Moonlark123, thanks for the deranged macarena. Truly beautiful.
Anyway, Tam POV! Tam is awesome. I love him. Enjoy the chapter! Gonna dunk on Lucin a bit, which made me happy. This is the last chapter I'm posting today, although I'll update tomorrow. Love you guys!
Tam didn't notice when the sun started to go down, or when the water became colder. He didn't pay attention to anything but the beautiful girl in front of him. She was smiling, and laughing. And even though it wasn't the happiest he'd ever seen her, it was good enough. Her best friend had been captured. He had to cut her some slack.
"Hey, flower boy," she said.
"Ugh," he groaned at the nickname, even though it was sort of endearing. "What?"
Biana pointed to the sky. "Shouldn't we go home?"
"Yeah, it's getting kinda late. I guess so," he said.
They climbed out of the river and collected their shoes and socks.
"What are you going to do about Lucin?" Tam asked.
He could barely say his name without growling. Biana was beautiful, and brave, and amazing, and Lucin was a fool for letting her go.
Biana shrugged. "I'm sure he's going to break up with me tomorrow, but I have to beat him to it. Something public, flamboyant. I want everyone to know what type of person he is."
"Sounds perfect. Make him beg."
"Can you be there when I do it?" Biana asked.
Tam sighed. "I don't think I would be able to resist bashing his pretty nose in. And I'd rather not get you suspended."
Biana nudged him with her elbow. "I wouldn't mind suspension, so long as I get to see the look on that coward's face when he realizes how much better you are than him."
It was a simple compliment. Friendly. Platonic. And yet Tam's pulse shifted into overdrive.
He elbowed her back gently. "Yeah, but I mean, I might accidentally kill the guy."
Biana snorted. "I think you'll be fine so long as you don't punch him with a knife."
Tam smirked. "Yeah, I guess. Although telekinesis could scare the living heck out of him."
"We could dangle him above Foxfire," Biana added.
"Drop him a few times for good measure, but stop him right before he hits the ground," Tam continued.
"Lucin would shit himself," she laughed. "Now that would be worth it."
They were silent for a few minutes, until Biana eventually said, "See you at school tomorrow?"
And maybe it was wrong of him to be having fun while his friends were being held prisoner. Maybe it made him shallow, or maybe it was some form of betrayal. But it was worth it, to make her smile again.
So Tam nodded, holding up his home crystal. "I wouldn't miss it for the world."
