At work later that week Nathan was having lunch with Owen in the cafeteria.

"So that Jeff kid do we like him," Nathan asked.

"I'm not sure," Owen said, "she likes him but he's condescending."

"What was with everyone having to tell him to help," Nathan asked, "he let Nikki carry the chairs out to the garage."

"I heard him make a comment about women's work," Owen smeared.

"I heard that," Nathan said, "she can't let him walk all over her like that. It doesn't look healthy to me. Does she know what a healthy relationship looks like?"

"What do you mean," Owen asked.

"That kid seems controlling. It looks like he's manipulating Nikki," Nathan said, "but has Nikki ever seen adult relationships. It's not like ma dated much if at all. Yesterday was the first time I've ever heard of her seeing someone."

"Me and Teddy, Beth, you and Meg," Owen said.

"And none of us lived with them," Nathan said, "you and Beth that wasn't healthy."

"I know that," Owen replied, "maybe I'll get Teddy to talk to Nikki about it."

"One of us should," Nathan agreed.

"What about you," Owen asked, "are you seeing anyone?"

"No," Nathan said, "I was considering taking another tour in the spring."

"When," Owen asked.

"Once Teddy is back to work," Nathan replied, "two kids mate."

"We want this," Owen said, "we're excited."

"You and Altman it's right," Nathan agreed.

"Nate it's okay to move on it's been 5 years. We'll still be your family," Owen said, "it's mom she won't let you go."

"Meghan is still out there," Nathan declared, "I'm waiting for her to come home. I'll go do another tour. I haven't in a couple years. I still miss her, she was the one."

"Owen Hunt and Nathan Riggs," a brunette woman said.

"Tina," Owen asked.

"You do remember me," Tina replied, "what are you doing here?"

"I work here," Owen said, "you?"

"My son needs surgery," Tina replied, "we're seeing a Dr. Altman do you know anything about him?"

"She's my wife," Owen said, "how old is your son?"

"14," Tina replied, "what have you been doing I haven't seen you since graduation."

Owen's head was reeling, his ex girlfriend who he had broken up with in his last semester of college when he knew he was heading off to med school had a 14 year old son.

"I've been here three years now," Owen said, "Teddy and I have a two and a half year old daughter. Do you have other kids?"

"It's just Christopher and I," Tina said, "his dad didn't stick around."

Now Owen was panicking did he have a son he never knew about?

"Have you been in Seattle long," Owen asked.

"Just here for the surgery our family doctor in Spokane referred us," Tina said, "they were doing some tests on Christopher."

"Do you know who," Nathan asked.

"Young asian woman," Tina said, "dr yee."

"Dr Yang," Nathan said, "one of our cardio residents."

Owen's pager went off for an incoming trauma.

"I have to go," Owen said, "incoming patient."

Nathan turned to Tina, "what are you doing here?"

"Chris needs surgery," Tina repted, "I didn't know Owen would be here."

"How long after you and Owen broke up," Nathan asked.

"Chris was born 9 months after the break up," Tina replied.

"Is he Owen's," Nathan asked.

"I don't know," Tina said, "its one of two guys and the other guy rejected us."

"Did you ever tell Owen," Nathan asked.

"Never," Tina said, "we were done and he was going to med school. He dumped me."

"Because you cheated," Nathan said.

"It wasn't like that," Tina said.

"Meghan caught you at a bar making out with another man," Nathan replied, "it is like that."

"How is Meghan," Tina asked, changing the subject.

"We lost her in action five years ago," Nathan said, "Meghan, Owen, Teddy and I were in the army for a few years as surgeons."

"I'm sorry," Tina said.

"We still miss her," Nathan said, "your son did Owen know?"

"I never told him," Tina said, "he wouldn't have gone to medical school then."

"So you've hid it from him for 14 years," Nathan asked, "that could be his son."

"Why does it matter now," Tina asked.

"Teddy Altman can't operate on Christopher then," Nathan said, "because she would be his stepmother."

"What do I do," Tina asked.

"Come clean," Nathan said.

"He was so terrible with that little sister of his that I didn't think he could be a father," Tina said.

"He's wonderful with Allison," Nathan said, "and Nikki and Owen worked it out. I'm actually meeting squirt in half an hour. She's a math major at UW now and helping Teddy and I with some research. She's our number cruncher."

"So I should tell him," Tina asked.

"Yes before he goes crazy wondering," Nathan advised.

Owen and Teddy whisked the patient up to the OR.

"Are you okay," Teddy asked as they worked.

"I saw my college girlfriend here," Owen said, "you're treating her son."

"14 year old right," Teddy clarified.

"Ya," Owen confirmed, "Christopher."

"I haven't gotten to see them yet," Teddy said, "my day has been crazy."

"Teddy what if he's my son," Owen asked.

"Did you know about him," Teddy asked.

"No," Owen said, "I don't want to be that deadbeat dad. I never had a chance. I never knew."

"What do you know," Teddy asked.

"They showed up today it's the first time since college 1 I've seen Tina," Owen said, "I broke up with her because she cheated on me."

"This is crazy Tina," Teddy asked, "who used to break into your apartment?"

"Yes," Owen said, "what if that's my son. She said the boy's dad didn't stick around but I didn't even know he existed."

"We need to talk to her," Teddy said.

"Teddy what if he's my son," Owen asked.

"Then we get to know him," Teddy said, "Owen we don't know. You said she cheated on you."

"She did," Owen said, "Meghan caught her making out with another guy. Teddy what do I do? That could be my son."

"We talk to her," Teddy said, "together."

"What if," Owen said, "I missed everything. He must hate me?"

"You didn't know Hunt," Teddy said, "how could you be there if you didn't know."

Nikki made her way to the cardio wing, she was pretty familiar with the hospital now and many of her siblings coworkers recognizzed her.

"Baby hunt," Lexi called.

"McRae," Nikki replied.

"You're going to cardio," Lexi said.

"Meeting Teddy and Nate," Nikki replied.

"Hey Squirt," Nathan called.

"Nate," Nikki replied.

"I'm going to go get coffee, want one," Nathan offered.

"Yes please," Nikki replied, "I pulled an all nighter last night. I had my integral calc final this morning."

"Cream, sugar," Nathan asked.

"Both please," Nikki replied.

Nathan ducked into the attendings lounge and poured two cups of coffee.

"Hows Jeff," Nathan asked.

"He's mad at me," Nikki admitted.

"Why," Nathan pressed.

"I didn't let him sleep over Sunday," Nikki replied.

"You don't have to," Nathan said.

"He thinks I do," Nikki said, "and gets mad if I just need the time to study. He may be okay with Cs get degrees but I'm not. I want to do well. I may be the dumb sibling but I have an A average."

"Not dumb," Nathan said, "we get the human body the way your brain just gets numbers. That's why Teddy and I asked for your help. We can pay you from our research grant. It's only $14 an hour and only 10 hours a week."

"Its a textbook a week," Nikki said.

"Or shoes," Nathan teased.

"Clothes," Nikki smiled.

"Will you do it," Nathan asked.

"Can I see it first," Nikki asked.

"Come on," Nathan replied, "it's in my office."

"Can I ask you about Jeff without you telling mom, Owen or Teddy," Nikki asked.

"You want me to be the cool one," Nathan asked.

"Yes," Nikki said, "Owen has proved he's never cool. Mom will be mom. Teddy is moody right now."

"I can try," Nathan said, "what's happening with Jeff?"

"I don't know," Nikki said, "I really like him but I'm mad at him."

"Why are you mad," Nathan asked.

"He didn't help on Sunday and got mad when I asked him to," Nikki said, "then he got mad because I was angry and didn't want him to stay over."

"Not helping bothered everyone," Nathan said, "we all noticed."

"He called it women's work and said Owen was whipped," Nikki replied.

"Nikki everyone helps it's part of being a family," Nathan said, "just like we all grab Allison if she's out of bounds or going to get hurt."

"Do other families do it differently," Nikki asked.

"My mum expected me to help," Nathan said, "what does ma say? Many hands make light work."

"I guess," Nikki said, "I just know that when mom says girls it's me and Teddy and soon Allison will get little jobs."

"I remember you being maybe 4 and setting the table all by yourself," Nathan said, "if we got it out of the cupboards for you, you could do it."

"Was I wrong to send him home the other night," Nikki said.

"Did you want to be alone," Nathan asked.

"Yes," Nikki replied, "I was mad at him."

"Why were you mad," Nathan asked.

"He didn't listen," Nikki said, "he says he doesn't have to."

"He has to listen," Nathan said, "it's equal in a relationship. You have to listen to each other."

"What is it supposed to look like," Nikki asked.

"Every couple is different," Nathan said, "the way Meg and I communicated was different then Owen and Teddy. Meghan talked a lot, we talked. Owen and Teddy don't talk as much but are just in synch. You have to find what works for you."

"I don't know how much I can tell Jeff," Nikki admitted, "he thinks teaching is silly."

"Why would it be silly," Nathan asked.

"Because it's soft," Nikki replied, "it's not hard core like medicine or engineering. It's soft and girly."

"Does it make you happy," Nathan asked.

"I think so," Nikki replied, "I like working with the kids. Maybe I can make math less scary and more fun."

"Then do it," Nathan said.

"I will be a doctor one day but not your type of doctor," Nikki said.

"Phd," Nathan asked.

"One day," Nikki replied, "I'm almost 20. I have time."

"You do," Nathan agreed, "back to Jeff. He has to listen to you. If you say no its no bottom line. If he doesn't you leave."

"But he says he loves me," Nikki said, "he doesn't do that if I say no."

"But he doesn't listen to you," Nathan said.

"He loves me," Nikki said, "he loves me for me."

"Just think about it," Nathan said, "you're young."

Nikki having had enough of this conversation asked, "what is this project?"

Nathan pulled out the files and showed Nikki what they needed her to do with the numbers and the calculations they wanted done. She agreed that it was something she could easily do.

Owen scrubbed out of surgery and turned to Teddy, "what do we do?"

"We go talk to them," Teddy said, "together."

"I didn't know," Owen said, "I could have a son that I never got a chance to know."

"She never told you," Teddy said, "we go figure it out together."

"Teddy it's my mess," Owen said.

"And I'm your wife," Teddy replied, "we do this together."

"This stress isn't good for you," Owen said.

"Stop," Teddy warned, "I'm fine. Owen I'm not broken or weak, just having our second child."

"Let's go," Owen said.

"I'm coming after I use the washroom," Teddy said.

"I'll wait for you," Owen said.
