Chapter 46 The Chronicler

It's been 10 months since Kuvira and her earth empire were killed save for a few like Baatar who hadn't been seen since.

And of course Since Raiko was sent to the void to rot for all eternity like Vaatu and those who Altair sent in many years ago.

Since then the world was finally at peace with the world coming together during the days of the third generation.

Irons had led Republic City into an age of technological advancement that outshined even Japan and New York combined.

Of course people were still searching for Vlad since even without his powers he was still a danger that needed to be contained.

And some interesting things had happened since then.

David and Asami got married two months after Kuvira's death and his brothers teased him about how they first met much to his annoyance while Asami laughed at the teasing.

And Will also got married to his girlfriend Janet after asking the question at the party for their victory ten months ago.

That just left Turok who was still dating Jinora and his brothers teased him at every turn much to his annoyance while Jinora found it funny.

As of right now however though well...HEHEHE!

Everyone was at the hospital as Korra had gone into labor and was delivering her third child.

"Why are we at the hospital?" Junior asked as he sat in Will's lap making him chuckle.

"Because you are getting a new baby brother or sister." Janet said.

"I thought flying lemurs delivered babies." Diana said making the adults laugh at the innocence.

"Where in the hell did you hear that?" Reznov asked holding Julia close who smirked.

"Him." Both siblings said pointing at Meelo.

"Oh my god." Jinora said holding her face. "I'm related to an idiot here." Jinora said.

"Mm." Turok said in agreement.

"HEY!" Meelo yelled before Sean walked out with a grin.

"Well?" Senna asked.

"She all right. Just tired. Now you two get in here. Theres someone your mom wants you to see." Sean said letting the children in first.

Walking into the room they saw their mother who once more had her hair back at it's original length holding something in a pink blanket.

"Mommy?" Diana asked making her smile as Diana got into her bed.

"Who's that?" Junior asked making the parents smile.

"Let me introducer you both to your baby sister. Katara." Korra said revealing her head.

She had her mother's skin texture and but her father's brown hair before she opened her eyes showing she had her mother's eyes and smiled at her family making Korra smile as she kissed her forehead.

"Hi." Diana waved making her laugh.

The reason for her name was simple.

A few months ago Katara had peacefully passed away in her sleep. While Korra was sad for the loss of her mentor who was like family to her she knew she was reunited with her friends and husband so she wasn't too broken up knowing she was where she wanted to be. But she wanted to honor her so she named her third child after her to always remember her.

"She's beautiful just like her mother." Sean said making Korra smile before kissing him.

After three years without him Korra had everything she wanted back and more. To her, her life was perfect as she had everything she needed.

A month later

Korra smiled as she fed Katara her bottle as She and Sean along with the Task force were in Iron's office.

"Over the last year the four nations have been at peace and the world has gone back to the way it used to be when Altair and his generation led the world. Not a single problem anywhere has come up." Irons said.

"To be expected. But clearly something is up. You wouldn't have called in the Task force here unless something was wrong." Sean said.

"There haven't been any reports from Ba Sin Se in the last two days. Now it's probably nothing but in the event something has happened I would like the Task force to go in and investigate to be on the safe side." Irons said.

"Well...It doesn't hurt to be safe." Hudson said.

The Task force was getting supplies loaded into a drop ship.

"You two behave for your mother." Sean said kissing Junior and Diana.

"Ok." Diana said.

"I'll be gone only a few hours at best." Sean said before kissing Korra before Kissing Katara's forehead making her yawn in her sleep making them smile.

"Be careful ok." Korra said.

"I will." Sean said before he got in the drop ship before they took off.

"Lets go visit Tenzin for a little while ok." Korra said leading her kids away.

Later

The drop ship was getting close to Ba Sin Se.

"Ok satellite images show the place looks to be in good condition so thats good." Gaz said.

"Unless theres something blocking the real image." Adler said.

"We'll know more when we touch down." Sean said.

"Ba Sin Se in sight." Sarah said as they flew just outside the city.

"Everything looks normal." Mason said.

Sean looked down before he noticed small fire on the ground.

"Land down." Sean said getting Sarah to do just that.

Getting out Sean approached the fire before he noticed something odd.

"What is it?" Will asked.

"Look at the fire. The part thats burning it coming towards us but in the back where it's already burnt. Theres a part thats just missing." Sean said seeing where one half was burn while the other was untouched which was impossible.

"Yeah...The hell is up with that?" Will asked before Sean walked forward before he held his hand out before his hand vanished before pulling back seeing it again.

"A hologram. Oh why am I not gonna like this?" Sean asked before they walked past the hologram before widening their eyes.

"My god." Hudson said seeing all of Ba Sin Se destroyed even the walls.

Walking to the lower ring they saw thousands of dead bodies all around.

"What the hell did this?" Adler asked seeing a few people hanged by their own intestines.

"Oh god." Will said before throwing up.

"What kind of sick twisted fuck did this?" Woods asked.

"We'll find out. soon enough. Let's keep going." Sean said as they moved to the middle ring seeing the same thing only the whole place looked a lot worse with there being nothing but ash.

"You don't think some of Kuvira's men did this as payback do you?" Foley asked.

"I don't think this has anything to do with her." Price said.

"Yeah. And I doubt there would be enough to cause this kind of damage. No...Someone else did this." Sean said before they finally arrived in the upper ring before they noticed what looked like crash site in the center of where the palace once was.

"Whatever happened started here." Mason said before Sean looked at the center before he widened his eyes seeing something he hadn't seen in 6 years.

Cinder's Dark Star Saber.

"Bring back memories?"

Everyone looked up before they saw Vlad in darker clothes glaring at them.

"My mother's sword. Created to rival the original Star Saber." Vlad said.

"Did you do this?" Sean asked glaring at him.

"I did. This was...A test of my new abilities." Vlad said walking down.

"How? My daughter's battle spirit stripped you of all your abilities." Sean said.

"Oh she did...Of my regular abilities. I got new powers from someone else. The Dark Master who will soon return to the land of the living. And all of you will die by his hand." Vlad said calling his mother's sword back. "I once thought killing your children would make you suffer greatly along with your wife. But now I will make you suffer by making you watch as the world burns for the pain you have made me suffer through. Enjoy the remaining days you have left cousin. For soon he shall return." Vlad said before he vanished making them frown.

Later

Korra laughed as she used airbending on Katara to keep her in the air making her giggle like crazy before she landed in her arms.

"Mmm. Your not afraid of heights are you?" Korra asked making her laugh before Korra held her close just as the drop ship arrived making her smile before the others got off before she noticed Sean looking angered before she walked to him. "Sean?" Korra asked concerned making him sigh.

"Ba Sin Se...Has been completely destroyed." Sean said shocking her. "By Vlad."

"But...We saw Diana's battle spirit strip away all his powers a year ago." Tenzin said shocked.

"He's serving someone called the Dark Master. Who gave him new powers and his mother's dark Star Saber." Sean said.

"I was hoping that thing would never show up again." Korra said remembering all the pain it caused them.

"Who's the Dark Master?" Asami asked.

"I have no idea. But I think thats the reason I was brought back. It's no coincidence that a year after I come back to life this happens." Sean said.

"You think Zaheer knows something?" Will asked.

"I have no doubt it my mind. Something is up." Sean said.

"I'll alert the prison to let them know we're coming." Hudson said.

"Sean? Are you sure this is a good idea? After what he did to you?" Korra asked worried for him.

"I'll be fine." Sean said kissing her.

Later

Sean and Korra were in an elevator heading down to where Zaheer was being held.

"You still sure you want to do this?" Korra asked.

"We need answers." Sean said as the doors opened up before they saw Zaheer floating in the air.

"I had a feeling you would show up sooner or later." Zaheer said.

"My cousin Vlad...He just..." Sean tried to say.

"Destroy Ba Sin Se. I know." Zaheer said shocking them.

"How do you know?" Korra asked.

"Because I was just told by the same person who told me how to revive him last year. Last year he said there was a great evil on the horizon. Someone known as the Dark Master. The first and original enemy the Avatars of old ever faced when they became what they were." Zaheer said shocking them.

"You think thats who your father was trying to stop for 30,000 years?" Korra asked.

"I have very little doubts." Sean said.

"If you knew about this why didn't you ever say anything? Or maybe you just wanted chaos." Korra said glaring at him.

"No. I gave up those ideals once I learned the truth. And I was told not to say anything for a time until the time was right." Zaheer said.

"Who told you all this was gonna happen?" Sean asked.

"By someone known as the Chronicler." Zaheer said shocking him.

"Yeah right like we're gonna believe..." Korra tried to say.

"Upstairs now." Sean said as they left.

"Whats going on?" Korra asked.

"He's not lying about who told him." Sean said.

"Whats going on?" Korra asked confused before they appeared in front of the others.

"Well?" Adler asked.

"Zaheer knew this was gonna happen but was told to say nothing...By the Chronicler." Sean said shocking the other avatars.

"Impossible." Noah said.

"Uh am I missing something here?" Korra asked.

"The Chronicler?" Hitomi asked.

"I don't believe it either. That name hasn't been brought up in 50,000 years." Joesph said.

"HEY!" Korra yelled getting their attention. "Will you please stop ignoring all of us. Who is the Chronicler?" Korra asked.

"The Chronicler was the first and original student of the Avatars of old. My Great Grandfather taught him everything he knew and he studied under all of them in those days. And he learned the secrets to perfect immortality like ours. And he's said to have immeasurable wisdom that rivals all the Avatars and has great knowledge of many events in which he can predict. That information is wired into us directly." Sean said shocking her.

"But the reemergence of the chronicler is...Concerning." Kalder said.

"How? With that much wisdom and knowledge we'll have the edge." Jinora said.

"It's not that simple Jinora. Tales of the Chronicler are often interwoven with tales of doom." Turok said.

"Oh." Jinora said.

"So if he had Zaheer bring me back to life it means something is coming. And if the Dark Master was the original foe the Avatars of old faced...It means something bad will happen that dwarfs everything we ever faced." Sean said.

"You think Zaheer knows where he is?" Adler asked.

"Yes. And that means we need to let him go so he can lead us there." Sean said.

"You can't be serious." Korra said in disbelief.

"Korra I know you hold a grudge for what happened 4 years ago but this is bigger than that. We need to know exactly what we're up against." Sean said making her sigh.

"Ok. I guess we don't have a choice." Korra said.

Later

Zaheer flew in front of several drop ships that were in the middle of the ocean.

"I don't like the fact that we're following him." Joker said.

"We have no choice. Whatever is coming we need to know the truth." Sean said before Zaheer suddenly vanished.

"Whoa what the?" Will said before they passed a barrier before they saw Zaheer still flying towards an island that had a large fortress.

"Whoa." Ikki said in awe before they landed.

"This is the Chronicler's home? Nice pick." Will said before Zaheer led them inside.

Walking inside they saw thousands of books of various ages.

Thats when Ikki noticed a large hourglass.

"Hey I think I know what this is." Ikki said excited.

"Hmm?" Sean said.

"It's a magic wishing lamp." Ikki said running to it making Sean burst out laughing as did the others while Zaheer shook his head in amusement. "Genie? You in there?" Ikki asked tapping it.

"Oy knock it off." Reznov said.

"This is incredible. It looks like the entire history of the human race is here." Tenzin said in awe.

"It is well most of it."

Ikki gasped as she jumped away from the hour glass.

"Did you hear that? It spoke to me." Ikki said.

"Did it now?" The Chronicler said behind her.

"AHHH!" Ikki screamed in fright making him chuckle.

"Ah young life. I almost forgot what that is like." The Chronicler said. He was dressed in ancient robes with a staff in hand.

"The Chronicler." Sean said.

"Yes Young Kruger. It is I. The records in this hall date back to the beginning of the human race...Nearly. And I have been waiting for you." The Chronicler said.

"I have one question before we begin. If you know whats gonna happen why didn't you warn us when Zaheer got out?" Korra asked glaring at him.

"Korra..." Sean tried to say.

"NO! I want an honest answer now!" Korra yelled.

"I am truly sorry you had to go through that. But ask yourself this. Would you be as powerful as you are now if you had not gone through that loss?" The Chronicler asked making her eyes widen.

"You mean...You said nothing so I would get stronger?" Korra asked.

"Oh yes. At your current power level you would have taken down Zaheer's red Lotus group alone 4 years ago with very little difficulty and you still have a long way to go before you fully master your abilities. And Kruger would not be as powerful as he is now if the Primordial inside him had not evolved in those three years." The Chronicler said.

"I guess that makes sense." David said.

"But why was the truth about the Primordials not known to the rest of the world?" Zaheer asked.

"That information was known only to a few like me. And I'm the only one from the days of the first generation left alive. I have not had any visitors in my solitude in...500,000 years." The Chronicler said shocking them.

"You've been here for that long?" Korra asked.

"Oh yes. But I have my books. And I watch and wait and listen for things to come. And then add them to the books of time." The Chronicler said.

"That sounds like that prick from the spirit world who helped Unalaq." Turok said.

"Wan Shi Tong? He was...A disciple of mine for a time though unlike me he did not share what he had so freely or take precautions to protect his knowledge. If say someone destroyed a book here a spell would restore it immediately." The Chronicler said.

"Sounds like you're prepared." Jinora said.

"Though if it does comfort you Draco's son did destroy his library after he helped Unalaq in nearly destroying the world by releasing Vaatu and Miraak. He considered it more suitable to destroy what he loved rather than kill him for his crimes against humanity." The Chronicler said making Sean and Korra grin at each other.

"So all these books are written with events and people right?" Sean asked.

"But of course. You are also written in the books though many pages are still left unfilled for obvious reason." The Chronicler said.

"Can I see?" Sean asked.

"But of Course." The Chronicler said before a bright white book appeared before opening up before showing images.

However everyone was shocked to see an infant Sean looking very weak.

"Why am I so sick in this?" Sean asked.

"This is the work of the Dark Master. You see after your father and his generation sealed the portals that would have let him escape from the land of the dead he wanted revenge. Shortly after David was born thats when they started having children and he infected you and your generation with a sickness that had no cure. It would have killed you. However Draco made an example to save you in which the others followed. He transferred the Primordial inside him into you to save you. And the other Avatars did the same for all of you out of love." The Chronicler said.

"Thats most selfless thing I've ever heard." Korra said.

"Indeed." The Chronicler said before another book opened up showing an infant Korra with her parents. "And this is you a year after Sean was born." The Chronicler said making Sean grin at her while she blushed.

"Wait can these books tell the future?" Sean asked.

"In parts though mostly just glimpses since the future is truly never written. In fact I know what would have happened if Cinder and her brothers were never infected with the Dark master's influence." The Chronicler said before showing them an image of a five year old Sean meeting a four year old Korra. "You and young Korra would have met even sooner forming a bond that would still lead to your marriage and the birth of your three children you currently have. And when Zaheer came he would have learned the truth about the Primordials setting him and his Red Lotus on a different path that would benefit the world. Unalaq would have been discovered for his past deeds and killed preventing him from releasing Vaatu and Miraak and Amon would be moved by Altair's words about true equality and would have only used his blood bending to take away the bending of those who misused it for their own gains." The Chronicler said.

"Wow. Thats a lot to swallow." Korra said.

"Indeed."

"So...Do you know whats gonna happen to Vlad? I need to know." Sean said.

"Sean you don't understand..." The Chronicler. tried to say.

"Look...I know what he's done is messed up and he has no excuse but...The only reason he's like that is because of people taking out their anger out on him for something he didn't do." Sean said making him sigh before a black book appeared

"Very well. But his is a darker tale. You need to understand that over the years of abuse both physical and emotional tore his sanity apart. To him it's your fault as while you lived a life of luxury he lived one of neglect and abuse. The final straw was when you married Korra seeing you even found love where he was denied it by all and the birth of your son seeing your legacy where he would have none. For years he mastered dark abilities to ready himself to make you suffer by taking that of which you loved. Ultimately he would have failed and have been killed. So for years he waited for the perfect moment to strike. When Diana stripped him of his power the Dark Master reached out to him and gave him his own. When he returns he will serve him for all eternity." The Chronicler said.

"There has to be a way to fix all this." Sean said before Korra held him.

"Sean...I don't think you can save him." Korra said.

"Sean...Let me tell you another story...As to why all this is happening." The Chronicler said.

"Ooh, ooh. Can I pick the story this time?" Ikki asked making him chuckle.

"I think you'll want to hear this one." The Chronicler said before the image of an ancient civilization was seen. "Long before the age of the Avatars the human race was constantly at war with one another. Mankind was divided into tribes led by the strongest amongst them. The strongest tribe of all had two young leaders who were recently married. And the wife gave birth to twins. Two sons." The Chronicler said.

"I thought that mankind in ancient times had no leaders." Zaheer said.

"Zaheer people crave leadership. Without it they remain lost. It's in their nature to follow a leader or to lead others. Even if you took out the current leaders before you learned the truth that fact would not change." The Chronicler said.

"Hmph!" Korra said.

"Knock it off." Sean said.

"Now while the oldest was trained by both parents to take their place one day the youngest was...Unintentionally ignored by his family including his older brother. For five years he was mostly ignored in favor of the oldest. One day the child had enough and left the Tribe in the fury of a snow storm. When the parents noticed he was gone they realized they had neglected their youngest son and tried to find him to apologize including his twin brother. But by then he was long gone." The Chronicler said.

"Thats one of the saddest things I've ever heard." Korra said as Sean held her close knowing she was thinking about their children.

"Not too long after this younger brother was attacked by a pack of wolves and would certainly have been killed for food if not for the intervention of the Primordial of life who scared off the wolves before taking the young boy with her. Do any of you have an idea who this child is?" The Chronicler asked.

"It...Was my Great Grandfather. Draco Kruger." Sean said.

"Back then he was known as Draco Blood. When the Primordial took him in she taught him how to harness magic since humanity at the time never knew about it. And she was not the only one. The other Primordials had also taken in children who had run away from home and taught them everything they knew. The Primordial of life also took in another who would eventually become Draco's wife. Ysolda." The Chronicler said. (Picture her from Skyrim)

"I guess that part makes sense." Sean said.

"So the Primordials taught them for 45 years to learn to use magic to bring about peace and unity. However thats when Draco began to notice they were getting weaker and came to realize they were dying as something was poisoning them. Not wanting to lose the one who raised him he offered the idea to seal them inside the ones they trained to not only save them but use their power for what they trained them to do. They agreed and the Primordial of life sealed herself within her adopted son and he became the first Avatar of Life." The Chronicler said.

"Thats why he was chosen." Zaheer said looking away.

"Yeah and you thanked him by killing his great grandson." Korra said glaring at him making him lower his head.

"Korra. Even those who committed such acts deserve a second chance. It was something Draco later encouraged after...An incident occurred." The Chronicler said.

"What incident?" Korra asked.

"You'll find out soon. After the first generation became the Avatars they used their power to bring about an age of peace and united the tribes together. Finally ending the long pointless wars that had been fought for so many years. And created a grand kingdom known as Dragon City. But...Then thats when Draco was reunited with his birth family." The Chronicler said.

"Uh oh." Sean said.

"They tried their very best to apologize for neglecting him and wanted to be a family again even his brother tried his best to apologize. But he lashed out called them the worst of human beings and severed all ties of them and gave himself the name Draco Kruger which in ancient times meant dragon. It horrified them to see such rage in his eyes. While they were allowed to live within his city he refused any contact with them. And in a few short years...His parents died of broken hearts and even then he cared not. He wanted to also exile his brother since he also neglected him and was responsible for what happened. But his wife convinced him to let him be and so he did." The Chronicler said.

"I thought Draco was kind and compassionate to everyone." Jinora said.

"He was but they were the exception. Sometimes our anger can make us do things out of character. Over the years Draco led the city to an age of peace and prosperity under his leadership. But his brother on the other hand grew distant from people. After his parent's death his anger began to grow not towards his brother who abandoned him but towards people. His solitude had made him think that humanity as a whole was nothing but cruel to one another. And in his dark thoughts he believed that key to peace and happiness was the death of the human race. So becoming bold he approached his brother with his ideology of peace hoping he would listen." The Chronicler said.

"Clearly he didn't since we're still here." Adler said.

"Not only did he not listen he grew enraged by such a suggestion of genocide and banished him from his city and warned him if he ever came back he would be killed no matter how much his wife tried to convince him to give another chance. In the end His brother wandered the dark forests completely alone and his anger at humanity grew more and more. And his rage and anger...Summoned something. The very thing that was trying to poison the Primordials." The Chronicler said.

"And what is that?" Zaheer asked.

"A dark Primordial that should never been born. When this Dark Primordial approached Draco's brother he offered him great power to achieve his ambition and merged with him just as the other Primordials did with their hosts. Making him the Avatar of Darkness, Evil, Corruption and destruction." The Chronicler said shocking them.

"So...There actually is a Dark Avatar?" Korra asked.

"Your talking about the Dark Master. Aren't you?" Sean asked.

"I'm afraid so. And when he returned 20 years later to face his brother he went by the name Alduin. Declaring war against all human life. Draco was shocked by his brother's power as were the other Avatars. A war followed suit for a hundred years before Alduin was killed but even in the land of the dead he still continued to cause chaos by poisoning the souls of those who could destroy what Draco had created." The Chronicler said.

"So...My Great grandfather was responsible for all this...Because he never gave his family and brother a second chance?" Sean asked.

"Indeed. And for many years his actions haunted him seeing all the suffering that was happening could have been avoided if he had only given his family a second chance to redeem themselves. His wife managed to make him learn from his mistake and from that point on gave all the right of a second chance if they had done wrong. But even then he still was haunted by his actions." The Chronicler s aid.

"Hold on. You said he was killed so why does Vlad say he's coming back. I thought Altair made sure that couldn't happen." Hudson said.

"There are many ways in which he can return. Most of which have been sealed. But there are still few ways out." The Chronicler said.

"Then how do we stop him?" Sean asked.

"There is no stopping him. It has already been written. While some events can be stopped others can not depending on circumstances." The Chronicler said.

"Ok then where will he come out from?" Sean asked.

"That I'm afraid I do not know. He could come from anywhere within the world. But if you stop him this time around the Dark Primordial inside him will be destroyed. Since it is an unnatural part of existence it must be destroyed." The Chronicler said.

"What about Vlad? Where does he fit into this?" Sean asked.

"He will create an army of all your past enemies as well as an army of machines Ariac built during the 15 years he and his siblings were missing. Equalists, Followers of Unalaq, Ultranationalists, Red Lotus members, What remains of Kuvira's army and Ariac's machines. All of them will join him." The Chronicler said.

"He'll most likely come to Republic City." Adler said.

"I know you clearly want to help your cousin despite what he's done...But I'm afraid the most humane thing you can do...Is put him down." The Chronicler said making Sean frown.

Later

Sean was at the meditation center on Air Temple Island before his wife approached him.

"Sean? Are you ok?" Korra asked placing a hand on his shoulder making him sigh.

"No. I know Vlad is dangerous as he is now but...It's not fair what happened to him for all those years. And what about all that second chance stuff?" Sean asked.

"I know. But you heard what he said. Maybe it's just more humane to put him down to end his suffering. Sometimes you can't save everyone." Korra said holding him close making him sigh.

"I know." Sean said before she started giggling. "Whats so funny?" Sean asked.

"You remember how we first met?" Korra asked making him snort.

"Yeah like I'm gonna forget that whole Get out of my lab line and throw glass at you." Sean said making her giggle.

"Before we met I was so ready to be the Avatar. I thought I was really gonna change things. Thats when I learned what you went through it shot all my confidence down. But the more we were together the stronger it got." Korra said making him smile.

"Oh yeah?" Sean asked.

"Yeah. Hearing what you went through made me doubt myself if I could handle people like Cinder and her brothers. But the more we were together I felt more confident in myself. I knew right away what I really felt." Korra said making him smile as he held her.

"I know the feeling. The More I was around you the more my faith in humanity was restored and in all the others of my generation. Look at us now 6 years later. Married and have three beautiful kids who are worth fighting for and more will come obviously" Sean said making her smile at that thought.

"I know you want to save Vlad but...The best you can do is put him to rest so he can be with his mother and the rest of his family and be at peace." Korra said making him sigh.

"I know." Sean said.

"No matter what though I'm here for you." Korra said kissing him making him kiss back.

"Mommy? Daddy?" Diana asked making them face her seeing her and Junior who had Katara in his arms making them smile as Korra picked up Katara who was asleep before she kissed her forehead making her yawn.

"Come here." Sean said picking them up. "You three are worth everything we fight for." Sean said making them smile.

While Sean wanted to save his cousin from himself he would do whatever he had to for his children to keep them safe and make sure the Dark Master and the Dark Primordial were defeated again for good for them. That was a promise he intended to keep.
