CHAPTER 47: You Saw Us Yesterday (Fandom: Unus Annus, Markiplier Egos)

When a Dollar General employee is fired, the normal practice is to do it outside of HQ; either in a Room or outside in a universe. The reason for this is a fired employee is no longer allowed in HQ and will be violently expelled if they try to enter.

An employee fired in HQ is violently expelled into a random universe, unknown dimensions, or, if they're really unlucky, the Void itself.

Un'uns, An'uns and Am'ori were fired in HQ.

One could claim they wanted to leave their new life up to chance. One could say they lived life, especially that year, randomly and wanted the same for the end of what they knew. In truth, the brothers wanted to say goodbye to their mother and she had been in a meeting. They didn't have enough time to say goodbye and get safe at the same time.

You could probably guess what they chose.

The day they chose to get fired, the day they chose to start the year of chaos, was an employee holiday: Day of Memento Mori. It was a day of remembrance that, even with their Void-given pseudo-immortality, life wasn't forever.

The brothers had come up with their idea before the holiday, but it seemed the best time to start and end.

In any other universe, the day was only November 13. In one universe it was the day the channel Unus Annus, and the tulpa-like beings called egos associated with it, died.

Un'uns and An'uns weren't the only ones to have this idea, two video creators in a universe filled with magic did as well.

They were named Ethan and Mark, and, between the two of them, they had a large amount of egos created by their fanbases. Two of which were named Unus and Annus.

The Host, a powerful ego in the image of Mark, spoke of Un'uns, An'uns, and Am'ori arriving in the living room soon after Unus and Annus left for the afterlife.

The egos in the room heard The Host and raced off, miss-hearing the Void names for the names of the fallen.

In the living room, Un'uns, An'uns and Am'ori manage to create a passable human shell just as the first ego, one Wilford Warfstache, burst into the room.

"You're back," he exclaimed, "You brought a friend too! Where's the groceries?"

The three had no chance to respond as the demonic ego Darkiplier (Author-san would prefer to say Darkiflier but Author-sama and The Host disapprove.) swept into the room. Dark looked at them and realized they were not Unus and Annus, but somethings trying hard to pretend to be human, like him.

That was not what was at the top of his priorities though, that was to get the death illiterate Wilford out of the room before Wilford's mind broke more.

"Will, would you mind checking the… fan sites, for a reason as to why this could have happened?"

"Tumblr?" Wilford asked.

"Whatever you may call it," Dark ground out.

Wilford left through a door that didn't exist a moment before, calling out eccentric goodbyes. The door disappeared moments after as more egos entered.

Without the demonic energy Dark was created with and used to sense something was wrong, the others could not sense that the three were no more than their friends back from the dead.

There was much rejoicing by those who had the emotional capacity to rejoice.

"You're actually back! Hee Hoo and my subjects missed you."

"Youse said youse guyeses were dead, never been so glad for a lie."

"There was a 0% chance of this. Humans are impossible."

"Senpai's back, yay!"

"Ya'll actually came back. Huh, wasn't expectin' that. Want a baby to celebrate?"

It was a whirl of activity for a while but The Host and Dark slowly ushered the others out of the room. Eventually, only the five of them were in the room.

Dark confronted them first, shadowy aura ringing through the room, "I know you're not who everyone thinks you are. If you try anything to disrupt the balance I have so, carefully, crafted. I will break you."

Dark left the room and The Host, Un'uns, An'uns and Am'ori were left.

"The Host offers to tell you the story of the lives you have fallen into," The Host narrated, "Alternatively, The Host could direct you somewhere no one could reach you. The Host will not influence your decision."

Am'ori grabbed her boys and pulled them into a huddle. "I'm following you guys, what are we going to do?"

Un'uns looked at An'uns and said, "You were the one worried about losing our purpose, a new one just dropped into our lap."

An'uns straightened up and looked at The Host. "If we stayed, what would we do?"

"The Host replies nothing more than you were doing over the course of your chapter. Unus and Annus were an embodiment of a thing called the Bucket List. Something you are well aware of."

An'uns turned back to the other two, "A purpose doing what we were doing before? The only thing I see being an issue is we may have to explain we aren't the dead ones."

The Host privately found it ironic. Mark and Ethan had allowed fanfiction, fanart and out of context videos after the death of Unus Annus, just not the original videos themselves. Much like how Unus and Annus were dead and gone but Un'uns, An'uns and Am'ori were here to stay. In the future they would probably no longer be elementals, just adopted egos like the rest, the alternate universe Unus and Annus called to this one by the originals death.

"Tell us a story."

"The Host will oblige…"
