May your feet serve you well
And the rest be sent to Hell
Where they always have belonged
Cold hearts brew colder songs
Let's kill tonight!
Edward
"Sorry we're late." Angela sang as she and Isa danced into the room holding hands.
She made her way to the back of the room to sit with the Major and Marcus while Isa took her place at the front of the room.
As usual, I was perched in the beams of the throne room
Once again, we were gathered in the throne room for an impromptu lesson or story.
Aro and Caius were still kept in the dungeon, released only for lessons, since their first, and quite frankly last, attempt on Isa's life.
All things on the Alice and Rosalie front were at a standstill. No new information was gathered from the recon mission Alistair, Garrett, Benjamin and Tia had went on and as a result Isabella was able to relax on her research with Angela.
This resulted in a calm, yet not quite relaxed, castle while the girls regrouped and researched more about Isa's powers.
Do you know what this is about?
I shook my head as I pulled out my phone to answer him.
You know about as much as I do. She's blocking herself and Angela, so whatever it is she wants us to all find out together.
"What do we know about Mary I of England?" Isa's soothing, melodic voice rang out as I slid my phone back in my pocket.
Good God.
I snickered silently at the shared thoughts of Marcus and the Major. Whatever Isa had up her sleeve tonight would be entertaining at the very least.
"Why do you want to know about Bloody Mary?" Karina, a normally soft-spoken vampire, asked.
"Because I fucking asked." Isa sassed with a roll of her eyes. "Anyone else wanna ask more stupid questions or am I gonna get an answer to my question?"
Silence reigned as every vampire shifted in unison in response to Isa's attitude.
A wave of calm flooded the room as the Major looked up at me. Wanna explain that one?
I sent my own confusion in response and braved a glance into Isa's head.
Not tonight, babe.
I shrugged in response to Isa as she glanced up at me when she felt my probing.
"Calm down and explain." I signed to her. "Everyone is confused and your snippiness is uncalled for."
I watched her close her eyes and take a calming breath before starting again.
"Born in 1516 to Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon, Mary, also know as Bloody Mary, was queen of England from July 1533 until her death in 1558. Best known for her attempts to reverse English Reformation, Mary had over 280 religious dissenters burned at the stake."
The Major
As always during a story or lesson, Isabella's voice took on a light and soft melodic tone that had each and every vampire in attendance entranced.
"The only child of Henry VIII first wife to survive to adulthood, her younger half-brother Edward VI, initially inherited the throne until his untimely death at the age of 15. Edward did not want the crown to go to Mary because, as proven during her reign, he feared she would restore Catholicism and undo his reforms as well as those of his father.
"Upon his death, leading politicians proclaimed Lady Jane Grey as queen. Mary speedily assembled a force in East Anglia and deposed Jane, who was ultimately beheaded. Mary was—excluding the disputed reigns of Jane and the Empress Matilda—the first queen regnant of England."
Isa took a breath and sipped at the water bottle left on the chalkboard for her. As she spoke, her emotions ranged from highly uninterested to vaguely concerned.
Still nothing from her or Angela? I asked Edward from my place next to Angela.
Edward sent his negativity as Isa continued.
"Under her reign, Protestants in England and Wales were executed under legislation that punished anyone judged guilty of heresy against Catholicism. Despite the standard punishment at the time was to be hung, drawn and quartered, this legislation adopted the punishment of burning the condemned."
The absolute joy and happiness I felt coming from Isabella and Angela was disturbing. I chanced a glance at Edward when I heard his chuckle.
I looked at my phone when it buzzed and let out my own chuckle.
Aro and Caius are not gonna happy with her after this. It's a good thing they're both stuck in the dungeon.
Feeling his curiosity, I showed Marcus Edward's message and felt his own amusement.
"The relationship between the English church and Rome was restored with her accession and her repeal of all religious legislation left Protestants facing a choice, exile, reconciliation or conversion, or punishment. Many were exiled and hundreds of dissenters were burned at the stake, earning her the name Bloody Mary. The number of people thought to be executed for their faith during the persecutions is at least 287, including 56 women and 30 others are said to have died in prison."
I shook my head as I felt Aro work up the courage to speak.
"And what does this have to do with anything?"
The smile Isa gave him was beautiful and bright. Next to me, Ang giggled happily as her best friend answered.
"That is such a good question, I'm almost too excited to answer you." Isa sighed happily as Edward slid from the beams to stand behind her.
"Quite honestly, there isn't really a point to this story today." She started with a shrug. "I just wanted to clarify what I'm about to do is practically angelic in comparison to what I could do."
With that, she waved a hand and slowly walked over to where Aro and Caius were standing between Felix and Demetri.
The air thickened and I was suddenly well aware that the girls had found out something and this is solely a warning to anyone working with those two.
"Took you long enough, Major." Edward laughed from his lean next to Isa's chalkboard.
What is she gonna do? I asked silently.
My answer came in the form of Athenadora and Didyme screaming and an overwhelming amount of pain before it suddenly stopped.
I felt Isa's apology as she danced back over to Edward.
Ang spoke up from next to me as Isa beamed at us.
"While we know none of you are religious, it pays to keep in mind that while we hold the fate of your future in our hands, you might want to remember who the gods are in this situation." She started lazily. "As far as we're concerned, anyone not hanging off our every word is committing heresy, and therefore open to any punishment we come up with."
Isa giggled childishly as she bounced on her toes at the front of the room. As all attention turned from Angela to her, I was grateful she was still shielding as one by one, each vampire in attendance registered what she had in her hands.
As she lit a hand from each Aro and Caius on fire, easily terrifying the vampires watching her, Edward and I laughed in shock.
"You know the two of us are just young Gods."
