If I wake in the morning
I only need two more miracles to be a saint
Isabella
"You're so much prettier though."
I laughed as Edward whispered against my skin.
I was entranced by the way the sun hit both Ang and Major and had the stray thought that they were the most beautiful people I'd ever seen.
We were currently standing at the edge of the training fields watching the Major and Ang watch over the current drills the castle vampires were going through.
There was still nothing new from Maria and her sisters or from Alice, Rosalie, Stefan and Vladimir. However, Garrett and Alistair had been able to get closer to their Romanian compound and were gathering any information they deemed important. We were just waiting for them to return to begin a more in-depth training regimen.
Come inside with me? I asked Edward silently.
I felt him nod against my skin and started to lead the way back into the castle. The only sounds in the hallways were my soft breathing and the near silent echoes of our footsteps as we walked towards the throne room.
Edward
As usual when in the throne room, I made my way into the beams and watched as Isa walked to her chalkboard.
I closed my eyes and listened to her work quietly. I still kept my mind open for hers as well as the Major's and Ang.
After about an hour, I heard the chalk drop accompanied with the sound of her hair falling down her back.
As I focused back on her, she looked nearly naked. The small tube top and shorts combination she chose for the day was easily hidden by her thick curls and I bit my lip to hide my lust as she peeked up at me shyly from under her lashes.
I held my breath unnecessarily in anticipation for what as to come as I watched her take a deep breath and part her ruby red lips.
"She told me not to step on the cracks. I told her not to fuss and relax. Pretty little thing stopped me in my tracks; but now she sleeps with one eye open, but that's the price she'll pay."
Her voice was softer than normal, but also light and airy and easily carried throughout the throne room. From the silence that reigned outside, it also reached the training field meaning she had thinned the surrounding air.
"I took a knife and cut out her eye. I took it home and watched it wither and die. Well, she's lucky that I didn't slip her a smile. That's why she sleeps with one eye open, but that's the price she'll pay."
One by one, each vampire from outside slowly made their way into the throne room, lured by the sound of Isa's voice.
"I said, 'Hey, girl with one eye, get your filthy fingers out of my pie.' I said, 'hey, girl with one eye, I'll cut your little heart out, because you made me cry.'"
Her voice was smooth and sultry as she watched the throne room fill. Angela and the Major pulled up the rear with Marcus and made their way to their usual spots in the back of the room.
"I slipped my hand under her skirt. I said 'Don't worry, it's not gonna hurt.' Oh, my reputation's kinda clouded with dirt. That's why you sleep with one eye open, but that's the price you'll pay.
"I said, 'Hey, girl with one eye, get your filthy fingers out of my pie.' I said, 'hey, girl with one eye, I'll cut your little heart out, because you made me cry.' You made me cry. You made me cry. You made me cry."
As she held the last note, the glass on the dais shattered. At the sound, she stopped and took a deep breath as the sound of the glass hitting the floor stopped.
"I said, 'Hey, girl with one eye, get your filthy fingers out of my pie.' I said, 'Hey, girl with one eye, get your filthy fingers out of my pie.' I said, 'Hey, girl with one eye, get your filthy fingers out of my pie.' I said, 'hey, girl with one eye, I'll cut your little heart out, because you made me cry.'"
As she finished, she stood still in front of the hundreds of vampires, still and entranced by her.
"Welcome." She said smoothly. "Today, we'll be learning about Ognevushka-poskakushka."
The Fire-Fairy.
"Isabella."
"Oops."
The sudden rush of overwhelming thoughts stopped suddenly as Isabella shielded me at the Major's call.
I sent him my thanks and nodded to Isabella, accepting her silent apology and motioning for her to continue.
"Written by Pavel Bazhov and first published in 1940, The Dancing Fire Maid is a fairytale short story based on the folklore of the Ural region of Siberia." Isa started smoothly, tossing her hair over her shoulder and turning to her chalkboard.
Are we learning about her today?
I pulled my phone from my pocket to answer the Major's question.
Do not under any circumstances answer him.
I paused at hearing Isa's thought and glanced down with an eyebrow raised.
Later. When we're alone with Marcus.
I tipped my head in deference and passed the message along to the Major.
Apparently, we'll be heading out of the castle with Marcus tonight but this is not about her. At least I don't think it is.
I felt his acknowledgment wash over me as we focused again on Isabella.
"In this fairytale, the characters meet a female creature from the Ural folklore called Poskakushka who can do the magical dance that reveals gold deposits."
As she spoke, she drew a detailed picture of a fire with a tiny girl dancing in the flames.
"Who wants to tell the story?" she finished with a small smirk. Who answers?
I pointed out Senna, a Siberian native who was turned right around the story was written, as she started to speak.
Together, we listened to the slightly accented voice of Senna spin the tale of a gold locating fire fairy.
I hid a small smile at Isabella's thought as Senna finished her tale.
I love story time.
