Luz flipped over in bed and reached over towards Boscha. She didn't feel any skin, she only felt the silk sheets.
"I guess she wanted to get her work done. Alright, I guess I'll cuddle with Amity."
She flipped back over and reached towards Amity... and felt sheets again. She sat up and noticed the bed was empty.
"Where are they?" She asked, "Maybe they're trying to make Edalyn's eight birthday amazing."
Luz quickly remembered something. She shares a birthday with Edalyn.
"Damn. I'm thirty."
Luz got out of bed and got dressed. She attached her cape and held her hand out. Her staff flew into her hand and she walked out of the bedroom. She walked down the hall and made her way to the Dinning Hall. She smiled as she saw Edalyn, sitting at the table.
"Happy Birthday, Edalyn." Luz said, giving her daughter a kiss on the cheek.
Edalyn giggled.
"Happy Birthday, Mami." Edalyn said, hugging Luz.
Amity came in and smiled.
"How are the Birthday girls?" Amity asked.
"I'm good, Mommy!" Edalyn said.
"And how about you Luz? How are you?"
"Well, I'm seven years sober, spent the last decade as Emperor, and have been on the Isles for a little over fifteen years." Luz said, looking away from Amity, "I just wonder what my Mami has been doing since I left?"
Amity walked over and kissed Luz.
"Luz, you can't keep living in the past. You've done so much for the Isles and for everyone on them. Your mother would be proud of you."
"Amity, I ran away and hid from my mom. There's no way she would've been proud of me. I probably put her through years of pain since I've been gone."
"Luz, do you remember when we got together?" Amity asked.
"How could I forget? I almost bled out in front of you." Luz said.
"Do you remember what I told you?" Luz looked away, "I said, that I would help you, no matter what stands in our way. I told you that I would help you see your mother again, if you just hold on. I know I haven't been able to keep up my end of the promise, but I haven't forgotten it."
Luz grabbed Amity's hand.
"Do you think she's forgotten about me?" Luz asked.
"No, I think she has your picture on every wall in the house. How could someone forget about an amazing person like you?"
Boscha walked in and went over to Luz.
"Luz, there is something I need to show you."
Luz got up and followed. Boscha walked into a room and looked at Luz and Amity.
"When the war ended, I looked for a way to make up what I've done to you. I've spent the past decade working on this, but it's finally finished."
Boscha grabbed a sheet that was covering something and pulled it off. Luz's eyes widened and she held a hand out to touch it.
"Boscha... I-is this?"
"Yes. Yes, it is."
Luz felt tears run down her face. She held her hand against the wood frame. Eda's portal... was fixed. She could go home. She could see her mom again.
