Mom, Secrets And More

Chapter 53

As Amanda and Jamie are getting ready to leave Lee's place that morning to return home, Lee had a question for Jamie. "I need to ask you something before you go, okay?"

Jamie shrugged. "Sure...What is it?"

Lee, with a glance to Amanda, clears his throat asking, ""Well...How-How did you realize who I was? I mean, we hadn't met before all this started, and then yesterday, you asked if I was Scarecrow, so-"

Jamie replied, "Yeah, well, you and Mom were acting kind of funny at the house. Like you'd stop talking when I came into the kitchen. And when I was at IFF, and heard some ladies talk about this Scarecrow guy, I knew something was off. Besides, the way Mom even described Scarecrow at first to me, it sounded like the guy was a real dork."

Lee shook his head at Amanda muttering, "Thanks a lot-"

Amanda put up a hand quickly answering, "It wasn't you I was describing, Lee! I-I was picturing in my head-Fred Fielder-"

Lee groaned incredulously, "You gotta be kidding? Fred?! Oh, nice-"

Amanda sighed. "Oh, Lee, come on! Can we let Jamie finish, please?"

Amanda looking at Jamie, stated, "Go ahead, Sweetheart."

Jamie answered, "Thanks...Okay, Lee. I remembered seeing you at Moby Dick's place. Mom took Phillip and me and our friends for lunch that day, and you came up to the car in that pirate outfit. And then there was the trip to Germany," Jamie questioned but went on, "Mom, you did win that contest, didn't you? Anyway, I thought I saw you in the crowd when we were sightseeing, but that's all."

Lee then glanced at Amanda, who gave Lee a knowing look his way, and Lee nodded swallowing as he commented, "Ah, I see..."

Amanda stated to Jamie, "Well, we have to go now, Honey."

As Amanda went to retrieve her purse that was on the living room chair, Jamie asked them both, "Hey, what about Grandma and Phillip? Can we tell them anything that happened?"

Amanda, stopping in her tracks, shared a pensive look with Lee, who shook his head remarking, "No, not just yet, Jamie. We still have some stuff to go over with you, but we'll let you know soon, okay?"

Amanda, coming over to Jamie's side, her purse on her shoulder, put an arm around him saying, "We'll just say for now that your therapy isn't finished yet and that you're still dealing with a lot of stuff, alright?"

Then Amanda bringing Jamie over to the front door, opened it and asked, "Can you please get the elevator for us? I want to talk to Lee for a moment."

Jamie nodded and turning towards Lee and smiling said, "Okay. See ya, Lee."

Lee, coming up behind Amanda, returned the smile, gave a wink and reached over to pat Jamie's shoulder, answering, "Bye, Champ. Take care, huh?"

As Jamie turned to head for the elevator, Lee pushed the door partly shut, and Amanda went into his arms giving him a hug and saying softly, "This isn't even half of the thanks I should be giving you for helping my son through all of this..."

Lee, holding Amanda for a moment longer, slowly pulled back, and sharing a tender kiss with her remarked smiling, "See you tonight...We'll go to Spencer's, huh? I'll call you later when I have the reservation made."

Amanda, returning the smile, nodded. "Sounds good."

And as they came out of the apartment a moment later, Lee walked Amanda to the elevator where Jamie was waiting for her and both getting inside, Lee gave a slight wave to the two as the elevator doors closed.

On the way down, Jamie then asked his mother, "So, Mom? When are you guys going out?"

Amanda sighed replying, "Tonight. But we're going as friends. Taking things slowly. You know, you just can't decide to go on a date with someone, Jamie. Besides, we're talking about you and the situation we've all been in lately, okay?"

Jamie commented with a shrug, "You already did that. But you do like each other, right?"

The elevator, at last, stopped on the main floor, and as the doors opened, Amanda, with the last ounce of patience in her at that moment, nudged Jamie forward to the front entrance, and greeting the doorman, she whispered to Jamie, "Yes, for the last time, we do...Now, let's go home..."

As Amanda pulled the car out of the apartment complex, and she and Jamie made their way towards Arlington, Amanda thought with a shake of her head, That's it! I've lost my mind, and this has all been one crazy dream!
