"Thanks for last night Alex." Hermione gave Alex a smile smile as the two girls took a seat at their usual spot at the Gryffindor table.
"Of course. You feeling good about kicking Ron's butt today?"
"No, but I feel better. I just have to come to terms with the fact that boys are stupid."
"That they are." Alex laughed.
"Speaking of..." Hermione rolled her eyes.
"Blimey Alex, this is the first time I've seen you for breakfast in days. Usually Hermione here will tell us you went straight to class. Rather odd... for you."
Alex looked up to see Ron standing across from the two, Harry close behind him. Both stared at the empty seats across from them hesitantly.
"You guys can join us. We don't bite... I promise."
Harry and Ron looked at each other in doubt before slowly seating themselves. The two immediately began to pile their plates with food. Alex noticed Harry avoided Alex's gaze as he seated himself. He started speaking to Hermione about the next challenge as soon as he had his plate piled with food.
"Where did you disappear off to yesterday, Alex? Didn't see you after the first dance with Diggory. Not even Fred and George knew where you were."
"Oh... uh, Cedric and I left for a bit. We did come back though, for a few songs. We didn't stay that late. He dropped me to my room early." Alex noticed Harry frown at the mention of her and Cedric.
"Oh, I don't think I saw you two come back." Ron frowned. "Um... Did you happen to get a hold of Good? For the autograph?" He lowered his voice. "If it wasn't obvious... I no longer want Krum's autograph."
Alex sighed. "No I haven't. I keep getting interrupted. Soon, I promise. I really need that intel on Percy so you can be sure I'll get it. Your brothers are depending on me. I just need to get a moment alone with him."
"Are you sure that's a good idea Alex?" Hermione cut in. "I heard Adam Good is dangerous."
"I know all about his so called 'danger' and I'm not afraid of him. He'd have to be stupid to mess with me." Alex shrugged.
"Justin didn't seem too happy to hear about you talking to him either. Wasn't that how your argument came about?" Harry asked, finally looking at Alex.
"I don't care about what will make Justin happy or not. And it's not like I want to spend time with him. I just want a damn autograph." Alex shrugged.
"Ron, tell her you don't need that autograph. Or ask Adam Good yourself!" Hermione scolded Ron from across the table.
"Are you bloody mad? I would never go anywhere near Adam Good!"
"But you'd let Alex do so!"
"Hermione, relax. It's not a big deal. I'll get that autograph from Adam and you'll never see me hanging around him again."
~~~~~
"Alex!"
Alex stopped, smiling to herself before waving to her friends to go on without her. As she turned, her eyes fell on Cedric, running in her direction with a broom in hand. "Good morning."
"Hello, love." He smiled as he stopped in front of her and leaned down to peck her on the lips.
"Where were you? I thought I'd see you at breakfast?"
"Macavoy fetched us some pumpkin pastries so we met in the courtyard. We decided to take a momentary break so I came to find you."
"I thought there was no quidditch this year because of tournament. How are you so busy?" Alex complained, wrapping her arms around Cedric's neck.
"The responsibilities of the team captain are never done. We have to strategize for next year." He smiled. "I have to get back to the team, but I wanted to catch you for a moment to give you your gift."
"I guess I can spare a moment." Alex smirked.
"Oh can you?" Cedric looked at her in amusement.
"What do you have for me?"
"I noticed you're rather attached to that necklace your godfather gave you." Cedric smiled as he pulled away from their embrace to fish something out of his robes.
"The one that belonged to my mom?"
"Yes, that one." He nodded as he pulled out a small box from his pocket and held it out to Alex. She couldn't help but gasp at the beauty of the box. It was wooden black box with intricate carvings decorating the top of the box. Alex stepped closer to Cedric, her hands gently grazing the top of the box.
"It's beautiful."
Cedric smiled. "The box is beautiful, but it's what's inside that's the gift."
Alex looked up at him in wonder. "What's this have to do with my mom's necklace?"
Cedric grabbed the lid of the box with his other hand and pulled it open. His eyes quickly went to Alex, smiling as he saw Alex's eyes light up.
Alex stared into the box in surprise the box as Cedric held it out to her. She couldn't believe it. The necklace looked exactly like her mother's pendant. The bracelet was a black chain with a small amethyst jewel at one end. According to her dad, it was her mom's favorite gem stone.
"Oh my god, Cedric! It's just like my mom's pendant." She looked up at Cedric. "How did you even find this?"
"I was in Diagon Alley picking up my books with a few of the other fifth years. The others were taking a while in the book store so I decided to go for a stroll on my own when I came upon a jewelry store. I thought of getting something for you and when I walked it, the first thing I saw was this bracelet in the display by the shopkeeper. It looked so familiar and then I remembered the pendant you showed me at the end of the term that you said Professor Lupin gave to you. I knew I had to get it for you. Do you like it?"
"Cedric, I love it." She smiled, stepping closer to him to peck him on the lips. "Can I put it on?"
"Of course. Let me help you." Cedric pulled the bracelet out of the box and put the box in his pocket as Alex held out her wrist to him. He unclasped it gently before placing it on Alex's wrist. "Fits perfectly."
"It does." She looked at Cedric happily. "I love it so much Cedric. Thank you!" Alex couldn't help throwing arms around him to hug him. Cedric wrapped his arms around her, returning the embrace.
"Seeing how happy that made you, that was definitely worth the wait." He kissed the top of her head and sighed. "And as much as I love this, I do actually need to get back."
Alex pulled away and frowned. "Do you have to?"
"I do. But, I promise I will join you for dinner."
"Fine." She smiled before standing on the tip of her toes for another kiss. "I love you."
"I love you too Alex."
~~~~~
"What took you so long? I've been waiting forever to talk to you!" Alex complained as Remus' face finally appeared on her hand mirror. It was the last day of the year, and Alex was hiding in the Green Houses again. Many of the students were visiting Hogsmeade that day, including Alex's friends and Cedric. Alex decided to stay behind so she could catch up with her godfather.
"I'm sorry Alex. I was traveling so it took me some time. Late to say, but happy Christmas!" Remus smiled at his goddaughter.
"Merry Christmas! How have you been? I haven't been able to talk to you since you helped me pick out the dress for the Yule Ball."
"I've been well. Did you take pictures like you promised you would? I want to see how exuberant my favorite goddaughter looked."
"I'm your only goddaughter!" Alex rolled her eyes. "Cedric and I did take a few photos before we left the ball."
"You and Cedric, huh?" Remus smiled. "Does that mean you two reconciled and he forgave you?"
Alex nodded, smiling wide. "We did, and yes he did."
"I'm happy to hear it. As it happens, I have a little surprise for you. I was rather hoping your brother would join you but I'm sure you can let him know to talk to us later."
"Us?" Alex looked at Remus in confusion as he smiled at her then moved the mirror farther away and her father appeared beside him. "Dad!"
"Hello my sweet, sweet Alex." Sirius smiled as his daughter came into view. "How are you?"
"Amazing now that you're here. How did you two manage this?" Alex looked to Remus.
"It was a challenge, but I was able to get myself to your father's home to visit. I have actually been here since Christmas Eve. I only left for a bit this morning to get us some groceries."
"I wish I was there with you both. Christmas at Hogwarts has been fun, but I miss both of you so much."
"We miss you too Alex. How are things there? Are you and Justin getting along? How's Harry? Remus told me you had a bit of a falling out with your boyfriend, what was his name again? Spencer?"
"One question at a time dad." Alex laughed. "And for starters, my boyfriend's name is Cedric and we are absolutely fine now. He even got me a beautiful bracelet for Christmas to match mom's pendant." Alex lifted her wrist to display the bracelet to her dad and Remus. The two looked at the bracelet with a strange expression.
"Doesn't that look-" Remus looked to Sirius.
"Familiar." Sirius finished. "But it couldn't be."
"What are you two talking about?"
"Alex, can you look at the the silver part that holds the amethyst and see if there is an engraving."
"Uh... sure." She gave her dad a strange look before turning her attention back to her bracelet. She took the amethyst in her hand and flipped it over to look at the silver part the held the gem to the necklace. To her surprise, there was an engraving.
"It says A.D... how did you know it was engraved?"
"I wasn't sure. By some miracle Alex, Cedric had come upon the bracelet to your mother's pendant. That was her bracelet." Sirius looked at his daughter emotionally. "After your mother's death and my imprisonments in Azkaban, all of your mother's and my belongings were auctioned off. Your mother was wearing the pendant the day she died, so it wasn't auctioned off. But the bracelet was in our home. I had it packed away with the rest of our belongings. I can hardly believe it's in your possession right now."
"You really mean... this is mom's?" Alex's eyes teared up as she looked at the bracelet on her wrist. "I can't believe Cedric got me mom's bracelet."
"It's a miracle." Sirius looked at his daughter emotionally.
"When did he give you this bracelet?" Remus asked.
"The day after Christmas. He gave it to me as a Christmas gift. He said he bought it from a jewelry shop in Diagon Alley over the summer after he noticed it matched mom's pendant." Alex explained.
"Ah. Maybe I should take a trip there soon and see if I can find anything else that could have belonged to Alana." Remus smiled. "There was a quite lovely ruby necklace your father got her. You would always reach for it when your mother had it around her neck." He laughed. "Sirius, do you remember when you left Alex in the bedroom alone for two minutes and she got into Alana's jewelry chest and found that necklace."
"How could I forget." Sirius shook his head. "Alana walked into the bedroom just in time to stop Alex from putting it in her mouth. She was quite upset with me. Wouldn't let me watch Alex alone for an entire week. She had to give up after Alex threw a tantrum when Alana tried taking her and Justin to the Potter's. I couldn't go with them and little Alex refused to leave my side."
"It sounds like baby me really didn't like leaving your side." Alex laughed.
"You really didn't. I've witnessed your infant attachment to your father. It was quite adorable... with the exception of the times we needed your father to come with us for non baby-friendly activities." Remus added.
"Well as far as I'm concerned nothing has changed. If I could, I would be where you two are right now."
"I believe it." Remus laughed.
"By the way Alex, have you had any luck with figuring out how to transport yourself here with the Room of Requirement?" Sirius asked, changing the subject.
Alex frowned, shaking her head. "No, no luck. I've spent every free moment since the Yule Ball trying to figure it out."
"What has Justin suggested?"
"Oh... uh." Alex stared at her dad nervously. "Lots of stuff..."
Sirius looked at his daughter in confusion. Alex quickly avoided his gaze, looking to her godfather instead. Remus narrowed his eyes at her.
"Alex, are you still not speaking to Justin?" Remus asked.
"Why are you not speaking to your brother?" Sirius looked at Alex, then beside him at his friend. "And why is this the first time I'm hearing of this from you Remus?"
"Because I expected Alex to sort it out like she said she would. Alex, you told me before the Yule Ball that you would talk to your brother." Remus looked at Alex with a frown.
"And you told me we'd keep the whole thing between us until I figure it out." Alex accused.
"Alex, why are you not speaking to your brother?" Sirius cut in, looking at his daughter with concern. Alex frowned, knowing she had no choice but to tell him now.
"He keeps jumping down my throat the moment he hears the smallest rumor about me. There's this boy Adam Good, he's new and he seems to have a bit of a crush on me. Anyway, I promised my friend Ron that I would get him Adam's autograph because he's this famous quidditch player. I guess there were rumors going around about us because Cedric had a falling out and I haven't been spending a lot of time with him but some people had seen Adam and I together. We barely even talked for more than a few times whenever we did see each other! The second time I talked to him, Cedric interrupted and the third time, Max and Mikayla made an excuse to pull me away. I don't even like him!" Alex threw her hands up in frustration.
"Why did you and Cedric have a falling out in the first place?" Sirius asked.
"That's not important right now. We talked it out, and we're okay. I'd rather keep it between us... especially since it was all my fault." Alex sighed. "It would just be nice if Justin would trust me and let me make my own mistakes. He told me at the beginning of the year he wouldn't hover over me as much. But I feel like I'm constantly being watched. If not by Justin, then by the Professors who report my every move to Dumbledore. I'd at least like my own brother to leave me be."
"I'm sorry Alex, I didn't know you felt that way." Sirius replied as he looked at his daughter apologetically.
"It's not like it's your fault." She shrugged.
"How about this Alex." Remus smiled at her. "Your father and I were going to check in with Justin later today. We'll talk to him about this. I think your brother needs to stop stressing over what you are doing and instead focus on the tournament. That is probably what's best for all of you."
Alex nodded. "I'd appreciate that."
"We should probably let you go. It's getting late and I believe your are running late for lunch?" Remus asked.
Alex sighed. "I think I am... my friends are probably wondering where I am right now."
"Don't worry about your brother for now. We'll talk to him first." Sirius smiled.
"And don't forget to owl those photographs to me Alex." Remus looked at Alex as she nodded.
"Yes, I would very much like to have a current framed photo of you in the living room." Sirius added.
"Okay. I'll talk to you both soon. Love you both."
"We love you too." Sirius waved to his daughter as their image blurred in the hand mirror.
Another chapter. A bit longer than the others I hope :)
