Chapter 54-The final preparations
Billy looks at Lexa in shock as the commander watches him with a calm expression on her face. "You want me to become a nightblood?" Billy asks Lexa, who nods. "Why me? Why not Anya, Roan, or Gustus?" Billy asks Lexa.
"Because they are not prepared to lead if I fall," Lexa says.
"Why would I be? Lexa, I've been on the ground for a few weeks," Billy says.
"The day you were captured and taken to Tondc. A rider got to TonDc telling me that you were there in less than two hours. I asked the ambassadors of the clans what they think should happen to you. If you should be killed or you should live. It was split between the clans. Six wanted you dead, and six did not," Lexa was saying.
"Was Azgeda one of the ones who wanted him dead?" Clarke asks. Lexa nods.
"Anyway, I was the deciding vote. Your life was in my hands, and even with Titus right in my ear, and I listened to him most of the time. I let you live, and you proved to me that I was right when you gave yourself up so that your people and mine would be safe. You put the lives of others above your own. You were willing to throw any chance of a life and happiness away for others. That is one of the most important parts of being the commander. You may not be prepared yet, but you will be. All I know is that if I die in this battle. I'll die with peace knowing you will take care of our people," Lexa says. Billy looks at her for a moment and nods.
"How do we do it?" Billy asks Abby.
"I'll show you," Abby says. Billy nods as he follows Abby. Outside, Ontari walks over to Roan.
"Hey," Ontari says to the man, who turns and looks at her. "Where's your bow?" Ontari asks the man. Roan looks at her, confused.
"Why?" Roan asks.
"I'm training Wells to become an archer," Ontari tells Roan.
"Fitting in?" Roan asks.
"Yeah, might as well enjoy it. Nia will find out I'm alive at some point," Ontari says.
"And when she does, we'll make sure you don't go back," Roan tells Ontari, who nods. "Go talk to Niylah. She was making sure all the bows are in good shape," Roan tells Ontari, who nods and walks away from Roan. Ontari walks over to Niylah, who was off by herself. She was sitting in her dad's wagon with the weapons behind her. She looks up when she hears Ontari's footsteps.
"What do you need?" Niylah asks the nightblood.
"A bow," Ontari says. Niylah reaches behind her and grabs one of the bows.
"What is it for?" Niylah asks.
"Training," Ontari says before she walks away. She walks towards Wells, who had set up two targets with Miller and Miles.
"Thanks, guys," Wells says to them. They nod before they walk away. Ontari stops beside Wells and holds the boy out to Wells.
"Let's get to work," Ontari says to Wells, who nods as he grabs an arrow. Kane walks over to Indra and Byrne, who was looking at a map they had made of the area.
"They are getting close to being down with those bombs. How are we doing?" Kane asks the women.
"Good, Wick is making mines correct?" Byrne asks.
"Wick and Jake are working on it. Why?" Kane asks.
"If we put those out now. They'll know where they are," Indra says.
"We have that covered. Raven and Mia are making smoke grenades. Where do you think they are attacking from?" Kane asks them.
"We think three possible areas. Our best guesses are the east and west. They won't attack from the front and the back. They could attack from the back," Indra says as he points out the areas. "If they do attack from the back, it will be a sneak attack with very few fighters," Indra says as she points to the areas they had marked.
"We'll put a few people in the back and mine the other sides," Kane says.
"This will do damage, Marcus. But not enough, we will have to leave the camp if we have any hopes of winning this," Bryne says. Kane nods.
"We know that. I will go inform Jake and Wick," Kane says before he walks away. Roy stood on watch with a gun in his hand. Claire walks up from behind him.
"Hey," Claire says. Roy looks at her and smiles.
"Hey, what's up?" Roy asks.
"It wasn't his fault," Claire says. "Billy, I heard you guys the morning after you came back," Claire says.
"You knew about them too," Roy says.
"So did Lincoln, Nyko, and Roan. We were all told not to tell the 100," Claire says. "So if you blame him, you blame us all," Claire says before she walks away. Roy walks her before he goes back to watch. Billy sat on one of the beds when Abby came over with a needle with nightblood.
"You ready?" Abby asks Billy, who nods. Abby injects the needle into Billy's arm and pushes it down. Clarke and Lexa watch as Abby takes the needle out. "It might take a few hours for this to work," Abby tells Billy, who nods. "Now lay down in rest," Abby tells the man, who nods as he lays his head down. She looks at her daughter and her girlfriend. "Go, I'll let you know if anything changes," Abby tells Lexa and Clarke, who nods as they leave.
Bellamy is awoken by someone pounding on his door. "Get the hell up," Gustus says. Bellamy groans and climbs over Emma, and grabs his underwear and pants. He puts them on and walks over to the door. He opens the door a little bit and looks at Gustus. Gustus looks at him and smiles.
"I would get dressed before I find her brother," Gustus says.
"Got it," Bellamy says. He shuts the door. He turns around and looks at Emma, who was putting her clothes back on.
"I'm surprised they didn't wake us up sooner," Emma says. Bellamy smiles as he grabs his shirt and walks over to Emma. He sits down by her and kisses her shoulder.
"I want you to stay in Alpha station tomorrow," Bellamy says. Emma jerks her shoulder away and looks at him. "Emma," Bellamy says as Emma stands up.
"I'm not staying in here while my brother and boyfriend go out and fight," Emma says. "If you think I can't handle myself. I killed a grounder before you did," Emma says.
"Emma, I can't stop Octavia from going out there. Believe me. It would be a huge waste of my time. The difference between you and Octavia is that Octavia has training. You don't," Bellamy says. Emma grabs her gun from the drawer.
"I have this," Emma says. "You are going out with a gun too," Emma says.
"Yes, but I have had training in hand-to-hand combat. You haven't," Bellamy says, defending his point.
"I will not stay here, Bellamy. I'm not some weak girl who needs a man to protect her," Emma says before she goes to the door. Bellamy grabs her arm.
"Damn it, Emma. There is already a chance I'll lose one of the girls I love. I can't lose 'em both. Octavia is already going out there, and I can't stop that. I'm worried enough about her. I can't watch her die and then see you dead too. I can't lose you," Bellamy says to Emma. "Please, stay in here and when all this is over. I'll give you all the training you want," Bellamy looks Emma in the eyes. She looks at him for a moment and nods. She hugs Bellamy.
Emma holds Bellamy. "I love you, too," Emma says to him. Bellamy smiles as he lets her go. "Go. I'll go help Niylah," Emma says. Bellamy nods and kisses her on the cheek before he leaves the room. Emma leaves the room, goes outside and over to Niylah and sits down by the blond grounder. Niylah looks at her. "Show me how to do this," Niylah smiles at the brunette and hands her a bow. Kane walks into the workshop and sees Raven, Mia, Jake, and Wick loading the mines into a bag.
"Are you guys ready?" Kane asks. Jake and Wick nod. "How many are there?" He asks.
"Enough," Wick says.
"You'll be covering the east and west of camp. Are the smoke grenades ready?" Kane asks Raven and Mia. Raven nods as she hands him a bag.
"6 smoke grenades. That should be plenty," Raven says. Kane nods as he grabs the bag.
Kane walks away from the others who follow him. "Do we have a way to defend ourselves against arrows?" Wick asks.
"We should by tomorrow morning," Kane says as they walk out of Alpha station. Raven looks over at the medical tent.
"Has Billy come out of there yet?" Raven asks.
Kane looks back at her. "No, we'll check on him after," They get to the gate, and Kane stops. He looks at Bellamy, Roy, Miller, and Miles. Kane turns and looks at the other four. "Jake and Raven will take the east, and Wick and Mia will take the west. Bellamy and Miller go with Raven and Jake. Miles and Roy go with Wick and Mia. We'll do our best to cover you from here. Both groups will have three smoke grenades," Kane says. They all nod as the men with guns check their ammo. Kane nods to the guard by the gate, who opens the gate. The eight people go out, splitting off into four people in each. Bellamy and Miller lead Jake and Raven to the side of camp.
"Where are we throwing these, Jake?" Bellamy asks. Jake points to a part of the field, and Miller and Bellamy throw the smoke grenades. Jake and Raven run into the smoke, followed by the other two. They set their bags down and took the mines out. On the other side, the others do the same. Bellamy watches as they hear gunshots coming from the camp. "How are you hiding these?" Bellamy asks as he scans the area.
"The best we can. If they don't know about them. Maybe they'll just run in," Raven says. Bellamy could see the smoke was starting to clear.
"We have to go," Bellamy says to them. They both grab their bags. Raven pulls out her handgun. The smoke clears as a grounder comes out of the trees behind them. Miller turns around and shoots him in the chest.
"Go," Miller says. They start to run back to camp. Bellamy looks on the other side of the field and sees that their smoke had just cleared. He looks at Mia, who grabbed her bag as two arrows come out of the woods and go through her torso. Bellamy watches as Miles shoots at the woods as Roy and Wick grab Mia and start to run back to camp. Bellamy, Raven, Miller, and Jake get to the gate first. Bellamy and Miller cover the others as they bring Mia in.
"Get her to medical," Kane says. Wick and Roy nod as they head to medical. Inside medical, Billy was awoken by gunfire, but he stood up when they brought Mia in. Roy and Wick set her down as Abby, Nyko, and Jackson look at her. Mia coughs blood as Abby looks at the arrows.
"We have to remove them," Abby says quickly. Nyko looks at Abby and shakes his head.
"Abby," Jackson says. Billy comes over and looks at Mia, who was coughing blood and looking at them. She coughs blood and looks at Abby.
"It's okay, Abby," Mia says.
"We can save her," Abby says to them.
"It's through her spleen and liver. She's dying, Abby," Jackson says.
"A mercy killing would be the best," Nyko says.
"You can't be serious," Abby says as Billy removes his handgun. He goes over to Mia and kneels down by the bed. They all look at him. He could see the other at the entrance.
"Is this what you want?" Billy asks Mia. Mia looked at him, and he could see the pain in her eyes and could hear the trouble she was having breathing. Mia gives a small nod. Billy nods as he stands up. "In peace, may you leave this shore. In love, may you find the next Safe passage on your travel until our final journey to the ground. May we meet again," Billy says as he stands up. "Yu gonplei ste odon," Billy pulls the trigger. He holsters the gun and looks at Abby. "Get the arrows out. We'll burn her body with Finn's," He says before he starts to leave.
"Wait," Abby says. Billy looks at her. "Now is as good a time as any," Abby says. The others look at them, confused as Billy sits down. "Either come in or leave," Abby says to the others who come into the tent. Abby grabs a needle and injects it into Billy's arm. She pulls the handle back, and nightblood fills the needle.
"How is this possible? I have seen him bleed," Anya says.
"I gave him some of my bone marrow," Lexa tells the others who look at her.
"Why?" Gustus asks her.
"In case I fall. This was a precaution," Lexa says.
"You have nightbloods," Indra says.
"None are ready to lead these people," Lexa says as he looks at Aden. She then looks at Ontari. "I do not trust you yet," Ontari nods. "I get that this is not normal for most of us, but Skaikru has a better knowledge of medicine, and we should use it to our advantage. Now we are on the clock. Let's get back to work," Lexa says before she leaves. The others slowly nod and leave. Billy looks at Mia's body before he leaves the tent. About an hour later, Murphy is thrown to the ground. He lets out a grunt and looks up at Octavia.
"This must be how Billy felt," Murphy says as he stands back up. Octavia smiles at him.
"Harper is doing better than you. At least that is what Lincoln told me," Octavia says.
"Yeah, well, I'm more used to guns," Murphy says as he gets back into a fighting stance Octavia had shown him. "Indra, talk to you yet?" He asks as Octavia gets in a stance too. Octavia shakes her head, and she lunges at Murphy. Billy walks into the room Emori, Atom, and Otan were working in. He looks at the shields they had made.
"Not bad guys," Billy says as he picks one up.
"There should be enough for everybody going outside the walls," Otan says.
"What are you guys doing? Staying in here or coming out to fight?" Billy asks them.
"I'll be in out there," Atom says. He nods as he looks at the two siblings.
"Atom offered us a home here. Does that offer stand if we stay here?" Emori asks Billy, who nods. "We'll be fighting," Emori declares. Otan nods.
"Good, we have about 12 hours," Billy tells them before he leaves. Bellamy walks past Harper and Lincoln, who were in a small training ring. He looks at them and walks into Alpha station and to the cells, where he sees Murphy and Octavia sitting down with water in their hands.
"You guys are slacking," Bellamy says to them.
"You take her on a round, Bell," Murphy says.
"No, I'll leave getting my ass kicked by a teenager to you," Bellamy says to Murphy.
"I'll be able to kick your ass one of these days," Murphy says back. Bellamy nods.
"I didn't know Lincoln was training Harper," Bellamy says to Octavia.
"He said he didn't have anything else to teach me. He told me he thinks Indra wants to train me, but I don't know," Octavia says.
"Get as much sleep as possible. We'll be up early," Bellamy says to them before he leaves. They nod as they stand up and start to train again. That night Billy puts on his armor after he wakes up and grabs his sword and gun. He walks to the door as Raven gets ready. Luna told him to meet her in her room. He opens the door and leaves his room. He walks through Alpha station and could see his friends getting up too. He walks up to Luna's door and knocks. Anya opens the door and motions him in.
"Sit," Luna says to Billy, who nods. Billy sits down as Luna comes over and sits down by him with a bowl. "This will be your first major battle. You have seen Lexa wear war paint. We have made a design for you. Stay still," Luna says to Billy, who nods. Luna dips her finger in the pull and puts it beside Billy's eye. About 20 minutes later, Luna stands up and hands Billy a mirror. The design covered his eyes like Lexa's and spread out into a thin line up into his hair where it stopped. There were small lings down the thin line.
"Reminds me of an eagle," Billy says to Luna.
"It's supposed to. A land and sky animal. It seemed perfect for you," Luna says. Billy nods as he stands up.
"Let's go," Billy says. He leaves the room followed by Anya and Luna. Tris, Aden, and Charlotte were staying with Lexa and Clarke. They get to the front of Alpha station and see Lexa and Clarke. Lexa holds out her arm to Billy, who grasps it.
"Don't die," Lexa says.
"My fight does not end today, Lexa," Billy says before he leaves Alpha station. He walks down to the gate where Indra, Roan, Bellamy, Ontari, Atom, Octavia, Lincoln, Miller, Roy, Claire, Wells, Murphy, Harper, Miles, Sterling, Monroe, Kane, Gustus, Emori, Niylah Otan, and Raven were waiting. They all had the shields on one hand. He walks past Raven and to the front of the gates as they heard drums and could see the men slowly start to come out of the woods. Luna and Anya stood behind him. Anya hands him a shield. Billy nods to the guard who opens the gate.
A/N Thanks for reading. The next chapter will be the battle. Mia meant to survive this long, but she did. I am very excited for the next chapter, and the nightblood thing, as I said, will not be used for much until a lot later on. I'm asking this one more time. What do you think of Murphy and Octavia? Who do you think will die, and who do you think will live? The war with the clanless ends the next chapter. As always, suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
