AN: YaY! Another milestone for me, 200 followers. Tough readers out there I guess. I haven't read much about the far east so I'm just going to run off Japanese samurai history seeing as they dress the same. Also had to get this chapter out of the way before I go back to funnies. This chapter is more wry irony than anything else.

ShadoWARmadaN:- In a world full of gods and goddesses, I think it will be more than just Gilgamesh that will be offended. It won't be the burgeois vs the proletariats but the gods and those with falna vs mortals. Enyo is just using it to stir up conflict against the gods. Plus there are so many kings and queens and rulers and gods in FGO that a lot of them would be insulted too. But it will be chaos.

Onishin Tsukitenshi:- Just about to jump back to Astolfo and Ryuu. Set up this chapter for the next. LOL! Like I said Da Vinci is the biggest manipulator in this fic. But even still Enyo is not completely dumb. He does have a few surprises up his sleeve. Stay tuned to find out more.

Phantom Thief of Hearts:- Yup! Yup! Fou sure is! There's more to come with Shuten Doji and Evilus.

Fate Grand Disorder

Chapter 54 – Espionage

Goddess Astraea had been wandering the countryside when she had been approached by the man. He was tall, towering over her with half his face painted in blue. His large green cape covered almost his whole body and almost made him seem to melt out of the ground. His hair was long and dark and held in several thin plaits. He wore a headband that seemed to be adorned at the back with a set of bull horns. He introduced himself as Caster Geronimo of Hestia familia.

He had been sent to escort her, saying that his goddess Hestia had business with her and would like to meet up to discuss it. That was already a surprise as the last she had heard Hestia was still mooching off Hephaestus after coming down from Tenkai. That wasn't nearly as shocking as when they had approached Orario itself and she had noticed the brand new walls set so far away from the city center or that all the land therein belonged to Hestia. Times sure change fast.

Her first bus ride on a freeway opened her eyes and when she saw the structures being built, the sheer scale of construction taking place, she was amazed and could only ask her escort if all this belonged to Hestia. He answered her curtly with a nod. From this alone, she gathered the meeting was of importance but nothing could prepare her for what Hestia and her captain, Caster Leonardo Da Vinci had offered her as her new job.

It was a new career opportunity, working for Hestia familia, but it also allowed her the safety net of being under Hestia's vast protection but at the same time allowed her to gather a new familia. A fresh start and if she were to be successful in this venture she would need to start gathering more trusted people. The only drawback was that Hestia had veto rights on how many members she could hire as they would all be paid a salary by Hestia familia. They wouldn't even need to go into the dungeon to make a living, only to level up. It was an offer too good to refuse.

This was even before she was introduced to her temporary working quarters within Hestia's own Hearthstone Manor itself. The technology she saw within that she would have access to in order to fulfill her new role was mind-boggling. Up to date aerial views of every inch of the city and its surroundings. Phone taps on people's private conversations when needed. Surveillance around the city itself through unknown spy cameras. Computers and laptops crunching through huge amounts of data and constantly updating her on any detail she wanted. Facial recognition technologies and all sorts of other tracking technologies were at her fingertips.

She had had to sign a confidentiality agreement to never discuss the technologies available to her against her divine name. It was one she was happy to sign. If she had access to this type of technology years before, maybe the tragedy that befell her familia could have been avoided. She would not let this happen ever again. She realized with startling clarity when she looked upon everything around her that Hestia had grown into a monster powerhouse and she was being asked to support that beast on its journey. As a goddess of justice, she could not say no. She would have to contact Ryuu Lion as soon as possible and begin her recruitment drive. For now, she would interview the young girl before her that had managed to pass Da Vinci's 'psychological assessment' procedure.

"What is your name?" Astraea asked her even though she had her resume on hand.

"Cecil." The girl replied.

"So tell me, why do you think you are a right fit for the Chaldean Intelligence Agency? What makes you think you're ready to join the CIA?"

Ganesha rubbed his temple as he read through the documents once again. His familia was being stretched thin. Hestia familia had seemingly managed to pile on so much work in the last few months on him. It was getting ridiculous and he needed help. Ouranus was no good on that front and he didn't have the wealth that Hestia familia had to simply hire more staff to deal with it.

His manpower was being stretched investigating the mysterious doujin publishers. The more he investigated the more he realized that it wasn't just the work of a few avid artists or fans but a coordinated and targeted campaign against Hestia familia's works and Orario in general. This put the spotlight on Hestia's works as possible information sources and he vowed to read them more thoroughly again. Still, he felt like he was being used by her.

He was also being stretched in searching all over Daedulus Street for secret entrances to the dungeon and he couldn't spare the manpower to even begin searching Port Melen just yet. He would have to leave that to Rubato Ryan, the guild member in charge of Port Melen. He also had men combing through the sewers looking for secret entrances and patrolling the sewers on an ongoing basis now. This was more manpower used up. He was definitely going to vote for Hestia familia to fill the whole thing in.

He softly murmured to himself, "I am Ganesha…."

His captain Shakti Varma placed a cup of tea in front of him and placed an understanding hand on his shoulder. Even she was being pushed to the limit, she had even cut back on her taming time as she devoted more time to trying to help her overworked god.

He whimpered softly and so Shakti looked over his shoulder to read the parchment in front of him. She shook her head as she thought about the logistics of what Hestia familia was asking for. They had requested that the Ganesha familia man the walls that they had finished building, all four hundred kilometers of it. If that wasn't enough they were requesting guards and lawmen to patrol the city slowly growing outside the gates. Ganesha simply could not afford the manpower.

The only thing that Shakti could think of that could help was the fact that all that territory outside the original walls of Orario was not yet considered a part of Orario city itself. It was extra-territorial. Hestia familia had pushed for the land to be officially recognized as part of Orario but if they did recognize it then they would have responsibility for policing it and right now Ganesha couldn't do it. So she recommended to her god that he not back any bill or law that Hestia familia would try to push through that would recognize that land. She sent Hestia a silent apology but her familia came first to her.

"Shakti…" Ganesha finally spoke to her, "Could you get me a meeting with Hestia? Or at least her captain?"

Revis was furious. She was being made to work with Berserker Minamoto no Raikou all the way in the far east. It had been her idea that had dragged Revis all the way out to the far east to start a revolution! Of all things she had expected to be doing when she had agreed to help Enyo, starting a civil war and a revolution was not one of them.

Somehow Berserker had managed to convince not only Enyo but also Thanatos to start this revolution. She had convinced Enyo that his powerbase in Orario was under threat and that he would need to set up a new power base away from the center of the world as a contingency. The extra manpower they could gain and the hordes of worshippers joining Thanatos had made it profitable at the moment.

The whole island nation was slowly mobilizing but it wasn't fast enough for the impatient Revis. She was used to action, not spreading rumors or manipulating warlords. She didn't understand sociopolitics and found rhetoric frustrating and agonizing. All she understood was that they wanted a singular entity to form making it easier to take over in one go. Right now the far east was run by a series of Daimyo's over smaller territories. It was ripe for unification and taking over.

God Ares watched enraptured at her movements as she erotically danced across the floor of his tent. He had long forbidden her from dancing to a crowd and instead had hired her to be his personal dancer and for when he needed to entertain his generals or for large parties. Till now she had resisted any of his advances and had even scolded him when he had gotten too close. She was fearless and bold as she was beautiful. He thought she would've made the perfect wife for a god of war. It was a pity she had already joined a familia.

Her golden veils and ample bosom drew the gaze of all who watched in. Her sensual movements and bright sunny eyes captivated all who saw it. Her name was Assassin Mata Hari and she was from Hestia familia.

It had started as a simple information gathering expedition and had turned into a full-time spying job for her, keeping tabs on Rakia's movements and strengths. All in all, it was an easy job considering how low-level Rakia's military force was as well as how dumb their god Ares was. It didn't take her long to climb all the way up to being a royal dancer and that was where she was right now.

"Why don't you leave your goddess and join my familia?" Ares asked her for the hundredth time. "I'm sure I can treat you better than she could."

Mata Hari laughed at the god as she teased him with a flick of her hips, "Why don't you ask her directly yourself?"

"I will!" Ares laughed determined. "Who is your goddess anyway?"

Mata Hari fluttered her eyelids at him as the music continued to play in the background. "Well…. I am a dancer…." She left it up to him to draw his own conclusions.

"Ishtar huh?" Ares cupped his chin. "I'm sure she'd be fine with it… Once I conquer Orario!"

She hadn't lied. It wasn't her fault Ares was an idiot. It wasn't her fault he drew the wrong conclusion. Still, she had orders and she had a mission to complete. Maybe then, once she finished, she could get back to Ritsuka and get some quality time with her master. "Are you sure you could do that?" She giggled girlishly at him.

He didn't like it when she doubted him but even he had to admit that her advice had been quite sound ever since he had started taking it a month ago. He had stopped trying to invade Orario and had instead focused his attention further north and west and had started conquering all the nearby lands forming a super empire to the northwest of Orario. Most importantly he had been successful at it. Yet every time he mentioned an invasion of Orario with his bigger army she had laughed at him like it was an impossibility. "Why would you think I can't?" he asked angrily.

She shrugged casually. "I'm from Orario, so I know how tough their adventurers are." She answered simply.

"Is there no way?" He clenched his fist.

"Well, if you really wanted to do it you'd have to hit their weaknesses first."

"Weaknesses?" he was interested in hearing more.

"Sure." She twirled again as she winked at him sexily. "The gods."

"What do you mean?"

"I don't know. I'm just stating that that's a weakness." She pouted as she knuckled her head, "I'm just a dancer I don't have any military training. That's your role." She let him think for himself.

He thought and thought and thought. Then he snapped his fingers and exclaimed, "I've got it! I'll kidnap one of them and blackmail Ouranus into handing over the city to me!"

It was a dumb idea full of holes and very shortsighted, but Mata Hari didn't have to tell him that. "They would have to be a very important god or someone with great power for Ouranus to give up a city for them." She continued dancing as if it were normal.

"Someone like… Freya or Loki or Ganesha… or even Ishtar?"

"I don't know if even they would be important enough for Ouranus to give up the city."

"Then who would be enough?" he was getting frustrated at another dead end.

"I don't think any god is important enough for the city of Orario." She finished her dance draping herself across his lap as she flashed her eyes at him.

"So I'd have to kidnap a few of them?" he was seriously contemplating it.

"Don't be silly!" She chided him, "That's even harder than going to war with Orario. Don't forget when you go after their god or goddess directly, their familia will kill to protect them instead of just beating your men into submission."

"Then who would be the most important god?" He wouldn't let go of the idea. "Someone whose absence will affect the city?"

"Goddess Hestia."

"Hestia?" He looked confusedly at her, "Really?"

"Really." That was the truth.

Ryuu Lion had thrown the flowers she had received in the bin. She had scrunched up Astolfo's letters without even reading them and had even threatened the knight when she had come to see her. She had ignored her calls and had gone so far as to bar her from the 'Hostess of Fertility'. Even though she had seen the ad Astolfo had placed in the paper and that Astolfo was preparing to have the group eventually meet, she had steadfastly refused to see her or to get involved any further. Even though deep down she really did want to get answers about her missing days.

When she had received a letter in the mail sealed with the Astraea familia seal she was surprised. When she had cracked open the letter and read it she was even more shocked. When she rang the number on the letter to confirm, her goddess had given her a set of instructions she could not refuse. She felt like screaming and putting a sword to that damned knight's throat.
