In the Bat-Cave, Kara and Brainiac 5 watched videos of Hamilton trials using the Desert Rose formula. So far, they had failed to replicate the "miracle cure" and were, instead, killing their terminally ill patients. "You see how the black kid being used to save the white old man is not by accident?" Kara noted.
"I see it," Brainiac 5 confirmed.
"And...you know...the old man died. Its kind of like the black kid is being used as a slave and the universe is saying 'no'," Kara continued. "I mean, that's justice, right there."
"What else does the universe tell you?" Brainiac 5 asked condescendingly.
"Check it out: We got this miracle cure out there but knowing that would essentially take the world into the 31st century in terms of medicine, the universe is now walking back that major breakthrough. It's like the universe is being a big tease," Kara said.
"Except my formula does work," Brainiac 5 pointed out. "You see what you want to see."
"Don't you feel you have a moral obligation to distribute your formula to others to replicate?" Kara asked him.
"I feel nothing," he reminded her.
After being ambushed by two thugs, Ryan Wilder was in Gotham General with Angelique at her side. She was complaining of a chest wound she had been given by Batwoman in an earlier episode. "The pacing isn't helping," Ryan said to Angelique as she paced back-and-forth in the hospital hallway.
"What the fuck is taking so long?" she muttered. "Hey, you!" she said to a random male nurse. "We've been waiting for a doctor for two hours."
"I'm not her attending so...I don't give a shit," he excused himself.
"Actually, haven't you heard of a little issue in your medical community called implicit bias?" Angelique questioned.
"Sorry, the race card doesn't work in Gotham. Try Metropolis General with that bullshit," the nurse told her off.
"This is the reason why black women die at a disproportionate rate in this country. We're not having that tonight," Angelique said.
"Oh really?" the nurse scoffed.
"You're going to give my girl some actual care before you need your own," Angelique threatened.
"Now...that's Gotham. I'm going to escape this borderline threatening conversation by telling you I'll find an attending and walk off," he said and then hurried off.
Angelique sat down next to Ryan. "Thank you, Angelique...for being my white savior," Ryan said sincerely.
"Anytime," Angelique smiled while holding her hand.
A doctor then came by. "I'm Dr. Rodriguez, I understand you're black...and gay," he noticed.
"I have an infection, too," Ryan rolled her eyes.
The doctor decided to take a look without wearing gloves. He pulled back the patch and saw a nasty bullet wound. "Holy shit," he said softly. "How did you get this?"
"I got shot," Ryan said vaguely.
"I'll write you a prescription for antibiotics. That might clear it up," he said and walked off.
"Wait, that's it?" Angelique protested. "When she showed up at my doorstep, she could barely stand."
"Well, I can tell just by looking at her that she doesn't have insurance," Dr. Rodriguez shot down.
"I'll cover it then," Angelique said.
"Oh, in that case, someone will be here immediately to provide whatever care she needs," Dr. Rodriguez said and then took off.
Angelique frowned as she looked at her phone. "Look, I got drugs to sell. I'll see you later," she said and then gave Ryan a kiss on the forehead.
Alice tied up Ocean in an old subway car in an abandoned tunnel. "Look, I didn't bomb your sister's plane," Ocean told her.
"I know you didn't. My boss did as a publicity stunt," Alice told him.
"The fuck?" Ocean wondered.
"What I want to know is why you don't remember our time together on Coryanna," Alice said curiously.
"So, I'm a botanist. I played Safiyah's game for a while, acted like a good little soldier, trained her army, and then took off with a flower. I got busted and exiled to Gotham with the worse hangover," Ocean said.
"What's missing from your story is that I tried to help you. We got caught together. Only, you don't seem to remember our time together," Alice said peeved.
"Sure, whatever," Ocean shrugged.
"Safiyah ordered me to kill your ass so I could take Kate back. Here's the thing, though. I don't give a shit about Kate. I do care about you," Alice said placing herself in his lap with a knife to this throat. "So, you're going to remember our good times and be the lover I remember you to be, or I'll kill you."
"You are one crazy bitch," Ocean remarked.
"This town is full of them. Get used to it," Alice told him.
The next morning, Jacob and Mary Kane drove around Gotham. Jacob got a call from his cell phone as he drove. "What do you got?" he asked Sophie.
"The Napier painting is fake," she reported.
"What?" Jacob asked surprised. "How the fuck is that possible?"
"It's pig's blood. If it were the real Joker, he would have chosen human blood," Sophie said.
"Yeah, maybe. Continue testing it anyway," Jacob ordered.
"We have a partial print to a forger named Ocean," Sophie said. "I might be able to find him using the BAT."
"Do it. Get it done," Jacob allowed.
"Copy that," Sophie said and hung up.
"So, I give up. What's the Bat?" Mary asked curiously.
"It's like using every cell phone in Gotham as a sonar," Jacob said, and then suddenly their car was hit hard by a tow truck from the side.
A creepy crazy guy exited the tow truck and took Jacob and Mary hostage in plain sight of everyone.
At the Crows next, alarms went off as Jacob and Mary were taken hostage. The big monitor screen showed his location in Gotham in Mary's underground clinic. "Let's move, people. The commander is a hostage again," Kate ordered as Sophie had already left the office.
Crow SWAT teams immediately got ready, got into vans, and took off. Kate got on a motorcycle and sped off towards the clinic.
At the clinic, Jacob and Mary were tied up to chairs. "What is this place? An underground abortion clinic?" Jacob wondered.
"Well...it...could be," Mary said awkwardly.
The creepy crazy guy then came into the room looking like he escaped from some psychiatric ward. "Don't judge. I've never done this before. I apologize for my UNYIELDING RAGE!" he shouted as he tossed a medical table on the floor.
"Holy shit, dude," Mary said wide-eyed.
"Okay, I'm cool, I'm fine, I'm cool," he said calming himself down.
"What do you want?" Jacob asked.
"The antidote," he demanded.
"We don't have anything to do with that. We don't know a damn thing," Jacob lied.
"Yeah, bullshit," he doubted. "She must know."
"She doesn't know anything," Jacob said.
"Actually, I know everything about it. There's none left," Mary said.
"God damn it," Jacob sighed at his daughter's lack of subterfuge.
"No!" the creepy crazy man shouted. "I need you to make more," the creepy crazy man demanded of her.
"Actually, I was just bluffing. I don't know shit," Mary said honestly.
"You're going to make more of that serum or he dies," he said as held a scalpel.
"I'm just a stakeholder in Hamilton. I don't know anything," Mary told him.
A Crow SWAT team suddenly burst into the room and blasted the man full of holes dropping him. They then quickly untied Jacob and Mary. Kate entered after them and looked around with an amused expression. "Took you long enough," Jacob said dryly.
"He was mentally ill," Mary said outraged.
"Oh, shit. We're going to get some flak for this," Kate muttered. "By the look of it, he was treated by Hamilton. Let's just say none of this happened."
"Good call," Jacob agreed, getting out of the chair.
In the subway train, Alice continued to interrogate Ocean on their sex life. "She didn't just erase your knowledge of the island's location. She erased our sex life. Doesn't that sound queer to you?" she asked.
"Well, maybe it was you who stole the desert rose and then you framed me for it to save your own ass," Ocean suggested.
"That does sound like something I would do," Alice said thoughtfully. "But we had a thing together. It was memorable, damn it."
"Oh, shit," Ocean recalled.
"Yeah...my thoughts, exactly," Alice said peeved.
"None of this makes sense," Ocean said bewildered.
"Well, when a man and woman love each other they f...," Alice began.
"I don't know where to find Coryanna for you," Ocean told her.
"I already know where it is. This isn't about the island or Kate or Safiyah. This is about us having marathon sex on the beach...and you...NOT REMEMBERING IT!" Alice freaked out on him.
She then got a phone call from Safiyah. "Is it done yet?" she asked.
"More importantly, did you roofie me and have sex with me while I was unconscious?" Alice asked.
"What? No," Safiyah said defensively.
"Why? Am I not pretty enough for you?" Alice asked insanely.
"Have you killed Ocean yet?" Safiyah asked. "The only way you get Kate back is if you kill him. If you fail, her life could be in danger."
"Yeah, but I don't give a shit about Kate. So, I say, go ahead and kill her, do your thing, skin the bitch, go to town, go to town! In the meantime, as usual, go fuck yourself," Alice said to her.
"You're bluffing," Safiyah sensed.
"You're making me choose between my old flame and Kate. It's not a hard decision to make," Alice told her.
"You're sick," Safiyah insulted.
"Well, you're...short," Alice replied and hung up.
Alice went back to the subway train and eyed a tied-up Ocean. She untied him and then proceeded to kick his ass. In a furious fight, the two slammed into the train walls and seats until Alice was on top of him. "This is getting complicated," Ocean realized.
"Let's uncomplicate it," Alice said as she tore at his shirt.
"Hands where I can see them," Sophie demanded with an M4 rifle in her hands.
"We're kind of in the middle of a thing. Someone like you wouldn't understand," Alice rolled her eyes and got up.
"I'm not here for you," Sophie clarified.
"So...I'm not Gotham's most wanted anymore?" Alice asked confused.
"Okay, I'm here for both of you," Sophie backtracked. "Ocean, I'm Agent Sophie Moore of the Crows. Where is the Napier painting?" she demanded.
"No idea what you're talking about," Ocean lied.
"It will take two minutes before this area is swarming with Crows," Sophie bluffed. "Hand it over," she ordered and then fired a warning shot.
Ocean reluctantly got out the painting. "Now, tell me how to read it," Sophie ordered.
A pistol was placed at the back of Sophie's head. "Drop the weapon," Black Mask ordered.
Sophie sighed and dropped the rifle. "The map," he ordered Ocean.
"Yes, Sir," Ocean said immediately handing it over to him.
Black Mask handed the map over to Joseph Wilson dressed as Deathstroke. Joseph took Sophie's rifle and cleared it. "Scram," he ordered Sophie. She immediately took off leaving them alone.
"The Napier painting: Joker and I go long back. Fitting that I should have his masterpiece," Black Mask said.
"I figured you would have gotten over it by now," Alice mocked.
"Your knife," Black Mask ordered.
Alice sighed and handed it over to him. Black Mask immediately threw the knife into Ocean's chest, dropping him. He was dead immediately. Alice backed away as Black Mask advanced on her next with his pistol. "You know how I hate competition," he said to her.
"Is that all?" Alice asked annoyed.
"Deliver the body to Safiyah and bring back the real Kate Kane to Gotham," Black Mask ordered.
"As you wish," Alice gave him a mock curtsy.
Author's Notes: A lot of the episode was cut with Jacob and Mary rescued as quickly as they were captured. The storyline of Mary discovering the miracle cure is not present in Adventures so that was cut. Mary telling Jacob the underground clinic is hers is cut. Ryan's Kryptonite issues are cut. There wasn't a lot I could save here that wasn't contradicted by my previous episodes or common sense. I'm not thrilled with Alice's new love interest so I'm keeping him dead regardless of what happens later. She needs to get back to being Batwoman again.
