What if Tiago, Bia and Carla didn't want to fly to the Amazon?

Author's Notes: The author of the idea is Crisketch, thanks for this great idea!

It was a sunny morning when the Gunderson family was preparing a nourishing breakfast at Linda and Tulia's house. Mostly everything was being taken care of by Blu, as his children watched him in action, and Jewel went to get her breakfast. She still thought they should eat what birds eat and not humans. Blu, meanwhile, having the opposite idea (he wasn't going to eat what birds eat, but mostly human food) was preparing pancakes. He learned their recipe from Linda when they also made them together from time to time.

"Pancakes are very nutritious," Bia mentioned as she watched her father ladle a pancake from the pan onto a plate while Carla poured whipped cream over it.

"That's right, and they're the best with blueberries!" replied Blu, then approached the fridge opening it.

"Wait, where are the blueberries?"

"Hello, Dad" came Tiago's voice behind him as he juggled one fruit.

"Come on," said Blu, and then Tiago pressed a bunch of fruit in his direction, causing Blu to lose track of the situation until he stepped on the pan handle, hitting himself in the face with it. The pancake that was in the pan shot straight at Tiago, crushing him against the wall.

"Auch", Carla said, squinting from the sight. To make matters worse, Jewel flew into the house and, seeing what had happened, shook her head angrily.

"UPS... Hi Honey" said Blu seeing Jewel who had a disgruntled look on her face.

"Blu, how many times do I have to repeat that we were supposed to stop eating human food?" asked Jewel.

"We're floundering" whispered Bia, then the siblings retreated back firing up the TV.

"Ekhm... Well... What have you got there?"

"Nut."

"Nut? That looks weird..."

"Yes a nut, today I will show the children how to open it"

"Oh yes!" interrupted Tiago showing how to open a box filled with nuts. Jewel seeing this with an angry look looked at Blu, who only smiled modestly. The quiet moment was interrupted by Carla pulling away from the TV with excitement.

"Mum Dad, you're on TV!" said Carla which got the adults' attention. Linda and Tulio were on TV talking about how they were most likely on the trail of a herd of spix Macaw.

"There could be a whole herd out there! And if so, we'll find them!" said Tulio drawing Linde to him.

"Yes, hi Blu!" said Linda waving at the camera.

"Hi Linda!" replied Blu waving his wing.

"Aren't we the only ones? Oh, could it really be? I would be so happy!" said Jewel when she heard Tulia and Linda's message. Since being in Rio, she hadn't thought about whether there were spix macaws anywhere else in the world besides them.

"Oi, are you bad with us?" asked Blu as he began to listen to Jewel's monologue in which there was plenty of excitement.

"Of course not" replied Jewel coming towards the window which was delicately open.

"On the other hand just think, flying in a flock, not being alone after all, just feeling like you're in a group!" sighed Jewel seeing a group of birds fly over the treetops of the tall trees.

"Well sort of, but on the other hand..."

"We have to do something" interrupted Jewel for Blu to speak.

"We have to?" repeated Blu, wondering where Jewel was getting this determination from.

"Well yes, fly over there and help find our relatives!" suggested Jewel.

"Ekhm well... I don't know if that's a good idea" replied Blu hesitatingly. He had never been in the jungle, he was afraid of it and worse he knew it was quite dangerous there.

"Just think, fly over, fresh air all around, zero people, just real nature, wouldn't that be great?" asked Jewel pressing Blu hoping he would agree.

"Let's ask if our kids want it" said Blu pushing away the responsibility from the decision.

"We?" asked Carla, Blu nodded with a motion of his head.

"Well... Ekhm... I like this idea so average" said Carla looking at Tiago and Bia, hoping they would join her.

"Medium?" repeated Jewel.

"I think we shouldn't push ourselves where we don't know what it will be like for us. Why run away from something that's good for us? We're not complaining about life here, so why should we fly away somewhere?"

"Tiago?" asked Blu.

"I agree with what Bii said," said Tiago, not knowing what to add.

"Well, I guess that makes everything clear," concluded Blu. He was hiding the fact that he was happy about this (he also didn't want to fly to the Amazon) because he didn't want to show his joy so as not to hurt Jewel more, who was depressed anyway.

"Well..." sighed Jewel.

A few hours later

It was already dusk when Jewel put her children to bed. To lull them to sleep she brought out her lullaby that she herself had listened to when she was little.

"Aren't you mad at us for not wanting to fly to the Amazon?" asked Bia when Jewel had finished humming.

"Of course not honey. Now go to sleep," whispered Jewel, then kissed her daughter on the head. She left their room, then headed upstairs where Blu was already waiting for her.

"What did Bia say?" asked Blu.

"Aren't I mad at them for not wanting to fly to the Amazon... I felt weird when I heard that..." replied Jewel.

"Weird?" repeated Blu.

"Well, yeah... I don't know how to describe it, it's like it was my fault... Weird feeling" tried to explain Jewel, but due to the fact that she herself didn't know how to describe it she didn't finish.

"Why do you want to fly there?" asked Blu.

"Think Blu, wouldn't you like to see your family again?"

"I have you after all" replied Blu laughing.

"Awww...ale you know what I mean Blu. I haven't thought about it as seriously as I do now that there's a chance"

"They didn't say they were there for sure" pointed out Blu.

"Well yes, but there are some chances... What if they really are out there somewhere? If we're not the only spix Macaw in this world?"

"Our children don't particularly want to go there..."

"And you do?" asked Jewel. Blu didn't speak for a moment. He had to think about his answer. He didn't want to lie to his beloved, but on the other hand he expected that if he said that he wasn't convinced about the trip either then he could only make Jewel more angry.

"It is not in my wings to decide if we go there. I want the best for you."

"I know Blu, I know..."

"Maybe someday Jewel, when the kids are older..."

"Promise?"

"I promise," replied Blu, then kissed Jewel on the head.
