It's time to finally wrap up the situation with our Inaba copycat. I had some fun writing out his character. Disclaimer: I don't own Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, the Persona series, Lupin the Third, or any other referenced media.

Fifty-Sixth Caper: Copycat's Lair, South Quarter Sluices

'I finally got some intel on the Versus kid,' Alibaba said, 'Apparently Donatello Versus was only sixteen when he basically had an affair with a female classmate. Seems he felt too smothered by Enya Geil, his mother, and needed an escape.' "Considering she lost her older son, J Geil, by that point," Joker said, "I'm not surprised. Do we have a name for the boy?" 'Angel Blue Versus,' Alibaba replied, 'That's his full name. Considering he's the one responsible for all the caves, I'd say his Stand is an extension of his father's.'

"What could his father do?," Violet asked. "Donatello Versus, Stand Underworld," Joker recited, "A short-range power type with the special ability to dig memories out of the ground. The memories could take physical form and played out precisely as normal. Anyone caught in the memories had to see them through, so for example if they were caught in a disaster their only chance to escape death was to find a survivor and take his place. The memory of the survivor would be unaffected by the switch since the actual event had already played out." Violet nodded. "I see. I wonder what Angel Blue's Stand is named."

Angel Blue was in the middle of checking through his notes on Adachi's crimes. "Nothing left? I thought the weather girl would be part of it, but apparently she never encountered the TV world. Did I mess up somewhere? I know Adachi isn't a natural-born Stand user, someone made him one. If I find that person, I can learn their secrets. Then I'll pick up where Dad left off. I heard it through some of Grandpa's old followers. His secret formula for Heaven. Dad tried to find out the formula for himself, but was killed by his own brother. This is why I cut myself off from the Joestars... My bloodline belongs to the Brandos!"

He clenched his fist as energy started to exude from his body, manifesting a humanoid that looked like a cross between Underworld and The World. "With the power of Dig It, I can create massive chasms, and shape the resulting dirt into whatever form I want. Castles, saunas, dungeons, any sort of building I please! And anyone who dares to get close will suffer Dig It's physical might!" Dig It demonstrated by smashing a nearby stone column to dust. "So just try and come at me, Phantom Thieves! I won't be going the way of my father and grandfather! The path to Heaven is before me!"

As Ren and Sumire arrived back in Inaba, a sudden quake hit the town. "What the heck!?," Ren called out, "This town isn't on a fault line!" "It must be Angel Blue!," Sumire realized, "He's making a new dungeon cavern with his Stand!" Further into the city, Goro was experiencing the same thing alongside Yu. "Jeez, yet another one!," Yu said, "One of these has occurred a few days before each cavern was discovered!" "It must be our copycat!," Goro realized, "He's using his Stand to make a new cavern!"

The shaking could be felt all across Inaba. Inside her office, Marie narrowed her eyes. "It's gonna be a big one this time... If I didn't know any better, I'd say it would go all the way into the very womb of the planet. Versus isn't playing around. He really wants his perceived inheritance." She looked out the window. "Of course thanks to his Stand the surface is completely unaffected. Such is the power of those who can tap into the ancient wills of the gods... So then, let's see if the god of the underworld can match the combined might of the gods of light and shadow."

Angel Blue smirked as his new cavern was completed. His smile dropped, however, when he found a small card that had been placed on the office door of the gas station he was staying at. "Angel Blue Versus, we are the Phantom Thieves Joker and Violet. Today we will steal the South Quarter Sluices from your possession." He looked at the plaque hanging on the wall, the last of the City Heritage Plaques. "So they're throwing down the gauntlet are they? Well, they'll find one heck of a gauntlet when they try finding me at the very center of my dungeon!" He laughed as he entered the deep cavern.

What he didn't know was that Joker and Violet were already right outside, Violet holding a seismometer in her hand. "I had a feeling this would come in handy one of these days." Joker chuckled. "Yeah, looks like the sushi's on me tonight. But wow. I had no idea how far gone Angel Blue really was. He seems to be entirely devoted to the Brando side of his genetics. Guess the rotten apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. This is why Rikiel is the only one of DIO's children to be buried as a Joestar. At least until Giorno finally kick the bucket." They hurried inside the dungeon.

Goro and Yu also reached the gas station. "Yeah, he showed up a few weeks before the first murder," Yu said, "A couple earthquakes happened after that, each one followed by a murder." "Adachi said the guy was aiming to go farther than he did," Goro noted, "But in the end he turned out to be a copycat and nothing more, all the way down to the details. The only difference being the Stand that was used." He narrowed his eyes as he picked up Joker's calling card. "Joker and Violet are already ahead of us. So our suspect's name is Angel Blue Versus? That name sounds familiar somehow..."

"His name doesn't matter," Yu pointed out, "What matters is that he's the one that's been chaos tension in Inaba. He could have easily killed my friends and loved ones if his agents hadn't been stopped. I'm amazed he was even able to gather so many sinners..." Goro snapped his finger. "Now I remember. There's an old Speedwagon file regarding the action of Enrico Pucci, who sought to bring forth DIO's formula for achieving Heaven. One of DIO's sons, Donatello Versus, tried to take the formula from Pucci so he could use it on behalf of his father. Regardless, Angel Blue is causing trouble now, so let's hurry down."

The new dungeon looked almost like an endless void, with roads held together seemingly by ether and large tori gates almost every five meters. "Jeez, looks like Angel Blue's idea of Heaven is the Eastern version," Joker noted, "So he's basically been copying Adachi and gathering followers to do it, all so he could gather the sinners. Seems he knows that much. But here's the thing... The full formula is currently written in a notebook that's been locked away by the Speedwagon Foundation. Donatello never figured out the formula, so how could he tell it to Angel Blue?" "Especially since they don't seem to have had much contact," Violet noted, "As far as I can tell, Angel Blue was only raised by his mother."

"He must have found out about his father somehow," Joker noted, "We'll have to ask when we confront him. Alibaba wasn't able to find out much about him." "Or we could ask Marie," Violet suggested, "She is a goddess, after all, so maybe she'd be able to tell us. But either way, such questions should probably wait until we've beaten Angel Blue. If his Stand is a short-range power type, our own Stands shouldn't have a problem taking him on. Especially since there's two of us. Three if Goro found out about this place."

"This place looks so familiar," Yu noted, "I feel like I've seen it in a dream." "They say those who are attuned to the supernatural can glimpse themselves in other realities," Goro noted, "I myself have seen an alternate world in which I didn't reconnect with my father, and came to resent him and try to kill him, murdering countless innocents along the way." "Isn't your father a representative in the Diet?," Yu asked. Goro nodded. "Yes, Masayoshi Shido. Obviously I took my mother's name since I'm technically a bastard. Come to think of it... Father is intending to run for prime minister this year..."

The two of them soon ran into a young man. Goro noticed his Stand, which looked like a minotaur with an upside-down face. "Nice to meet you," the man said, "I'm Dartz. A guard for Mister Versus. You'll have to get past the invisible wall created by my Stand, Creatures!" Creatures gave a mighty roar. "Interesting," Goto said, "I wonder if my own power will be able to tear through that barrier of yours. Break the Chain!" Dartz was shocked when the reality-rending arrows tore through the barrier, and Creatures, knocking both Stand and user out. That's when two familiar figures rushed ahead. "Joker and Violet!," Yu realized.

The two thieves were already racing ahead. "Now see," Joker said, "Dartz I remember reading about from the book when I skimmed some of the later pages. And I remember it saying that his barrier could even block conceptual powers like elemental energies. But I had a feeling that if Goro was following us, his Stand could easily tear through the barrier." Violet nodded. "Yeah, that was good thinking. Angel Blue can't be much further ahead. Let's keep moving. Goro should be held up processing Dartz."

The two suddenly leapt back as Angel Blue came in, striking with his Stand. "You've certainly been a thorn in my side. But it won't matter in the end. Once I get the location of the prison with all those Stand users, I can make use of them to achieve Grandfather's dream... I will finally accomplish the path to Heaven!" Joker chuckled. "Truth be told, DIO's complex formula was never needed. I take it you didn't check out the news in New York." Angel Blue was confused, until Joker showed him the video on his smartphone.

Angel Blue looked closely and was shocked, first at the Akumatization that allowed Joker and Violet to achieve Requiem, then at the Liberty power which unlocked their Heaven forms. The sight of it sent Angel Blue reeling. "You've got to be kidding... All those years of research to find a power capable of ruling over all... And it can be achieved with two pieces of jewelry!?" "Two pieces of magical jewelry housing gods," Violet clarified, "But it still invalidates all the evil you've caused!" Angel Blue growled before lunging at the duo.

Meanwhile, Goro was dealing with yet another Stand using guard. This one was another young man named Rayez, whose Stand The Table could psychically manipulate whatever was put on it at least once. And he had already placed quite a bit of cutlery on it. However, Goro was able to deflect the objects using his arrows, whilst Yu snuck behind Rayez and knocked him out. That's when a sudden explosion happened not far away. "I think it came from the end of the dungeon!," Yu said, and they quickly rushed over.

What they found was of no surprise. Dig It might have been physically powerful, but both W Boiled Xtreme and Be The One were just too versatile in their special powers. Goro and Yu stood over Angel Blue's unconscious form. "Angel Blue Versus I'm assuming," Yu noted. Goro nodded. "Looks like the cave isn't vanishing despite him being unconscious, likely because he's still in it." He did a quick search of the man. "There's signs that he had something on him," Goro noted, "Likely the plaque Joker was after. And I'd wager... He's already made off with it." Yu nodded. "At least Inaba can breathe easier once again..."

Dig It (Song from Holes)
User: Angel Blue Versus
Ability: Dig It can create massive caverns in the ground, the creation of which causes earthquakes on the surface. No matter how large the cave, it won't cause the surface above to collapse. Dig It can also use the resulting dirt to create buildings within the cavern according to the user's will, typically limited only by the cave's size.

Next time, Joker and Violet are invited to partake as guests in the Juni Taisen. The challenge is to bypass all the participants as they seek out targets in an abandoned city, and steal the Joestar Collection piece currently held by the master of ceremonies.
