"There," Avery smiled after moving the last strand of Sybil's hair into place and handing her her bouquet of white roses. "You're perfect. Ready to do this? Anything else you need?"
"No," Sybil smiled and shook her head. "I think that, after everything, I'm finally ready to marry the man I love!"
"Well, I definitely think he'll be impressed," Avery told her. "You look like an absolute dream!"
"You think?" Sybil asked doubtfully as she ran her fingers over the fabric of her poofy pink dress. "I mean, I know this isn't the fanciest wedding dress I could have gotten, but-"
"Oh, no, it's perfect!" Avery insisted. "It makes a delightful complement to the shoes, which are just lovely! A fancy dress combined with the fancy shoes would have just been really overwhelming but now it's a perfect match."
Sybil looked down at her feet and smiled. "Yes, the shoes are perfect, aren't they?" She asked.
"Yeah," Avery nodded. "Even more so since they came from Mikael. He really does love you. So much."
"I know," Sybil nodded, tears beginning to well up in her eyes.
"What? No, stop that!" Avery commanded. "No tears today. It's a happy occasion!"
Sybil smiled as her tears were wiped away, then Ricky poked his head in the door
"Everything okay here?" He asked.
"It's great," Avery told the young man. "We're all set. You can go tell your grandmother to get everyone seated cause it's time to start this wedding!"
"Well, I'm sure she'll be glad to hear that," Ricky remarked. "It's about time!" He turned to go find Selina and bumped right into her. "Sorry," he apologized. "But good timing! I was just coming to look for you; They're ready to begin."
"Thank goodness," Selina rolled her eyes. "We've already had enough excitement for ages!" She ran over to the stage and took the microphone from the jazz singer. "All right, everyone! Apparently, everyone is ready to begin, so find a seat on either side of the aisle and give our lovely singer a round of applause! The ceremony will begin shortly."
"Let's sit here. Nice and out of the way so the focus will be where it belongs on the bride and groom and not the women with the crazy husband and father," Amy suggested as she and Natalie took a seat in the back row of chairs after the announcement.
"Oh, I'm sure it doesn't matter," Natalie said. "Are you sitting here so we can make a quick exit?"
"No," Amy shook her head resolutely. "I said I was going to stay in spite of your father and I am!"
"Mind if I sit here?"
Amy froze at the familiar voice and slowly turned. "Of course not."
"No, of course you don't mind of Uncle Kol sits with us," Natalie said. "Right, Mom?"
"Good," Kol smiled and sat. "Because I can't stay away from two such beautiful women."
"Of course not," Amy shook her head and tried not to look affected. "But maybe your Uncle Kol would prefer to sit in the front row and get a better look at his father. You would, wouldn't you, Kol?"
"Uncle Kol has a much better view of the beautiful things he wants to see right here," he told her, giving her a very hot look that she hoped Natalie didn't see.
"Fine," Amy sniffed. "Suit yourself!"
"You don't have to give me permission, Amy dear," Kol told her. "I always do what I want. You know that!" He paused. "What I want or who I want," he whispered softly when he was sure Natalie's attention was elsewhere.
As Amy blushed, Natalie turned to smile at him and take his hand. "Thank you for sitting with us, Uncle Kol. It feels nice not to be alone after...after what Dad did."
"I know, sweetheart," Kol told her. "No need to worry about that. Just enjoy the wedding." Then he gave Amy a wink and for once, he got a smile out of her as she tilted her head toward Natalie and mouthed 'Thank you'.
Trying not to wince, Milo made his way to his parents, who were seated in the second row from the front. The looks on their faces told him he had been missed.
"Where in the world have you been?" Lucifer asked his youngest son.
"I...I'm sorry if I worried you," he said, trying not to wince and bring attention to his stomach. "I just wanted to go out and look at the horses. I was planning on being back in time for the wedding!"
He then made the mistake of wincing, which of course his father didn't miss. "What happened to your stomach?" He asked, gesturing for Milo to sit.
He gulped. Lying to his father was nearly impossible. Only a stupid person would do it. "A little accident," he chuckled. "I'm eternal. I'll live." He never claimed to be the smartest person in the world and was doing what he had to do. His eyes then found Natalie and Amy in the back row. He made vague gestures at his stomach and mouthed 'You'll pay!'
She just grinned brazenly back at him and stuck out her tongue.
"Are you sure you had an accident and this didn't happen because of some woman you decided to follow around?" Ellie teased.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Milo replied dryly as he took his seat next to her. "There isn't even anyone here worth pursuing in that way."
"Oh, I'm sure you could find someone somewhere," Ellie replied, after giving Lucifer a wink. "But it's nice to know you have more qualities you want in a woman besides 'breathing'."
In front of them, Steve and Gwen were whispering to each other. "You know, all signs point to this wedding happening," he murmured in her ear. "But as you know, things can change at the drop of a hat so...I bet you a hundred dollars this wedding won't happen."
Gwen scoffed. "Dear, the only way that bet would be fun is if I had a different opinion about the outcome than that, which I don't."
Grinning because of course he'd overheard the conversation, Lucifer stuck himself between them. "Excuse me, I couldn't help but overhear; if you're looking for someone to take that bet, I will!"
Steve scoffed. "You think just like we do, so what's the point?"
"In the name of love and because I find Sybil delightful, I'll play along," Lucifer shrugged.
"Fine," Steve rolled his eyes as Ellie pulled Lucifer back into his seat and looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"What are you doing?" She whispered.
"I'm just trying to make the ceremony a little more interesting," Lucifer shrugged, a grin on his lips. "I don't think there's any harm in that, Eleanor."
Meanwhile, a few rows back, Arthur and Gabrielle were getting settled. "I hope these seats are okay," Arthur remarked.
"It's perfect," Gabrielle assured him. "Not too close and not too far away." She sat down and smoothed a wrinkle in her pants as Arthur fixed his tie.
"How are you doing?" He asked.
"I'm fine," Gabrielle told him. "It's Sybil I'm more worried for." She paused. "But thank you for your concern; that's very...unusual for you."
"Yeah, okay," Arthur said with a grin. "I suppose I deserve that. I have no doubt your friend will be just fine. I was actually referring to you and my mother."
Gabrielle shrugged. "Time will tell. What about you and your mother?"
He lifted his chin, his eyes staying locked on hers. "I'm being polite to her, and I haven't left have I?" He asked.
"Wow," Gabrielle teased. "So much love for your mother!"
Arthur opened his mouth to reply, but before he could, they were interrupted by Adrian and Eloise. "Hi, Mom!" She said.
"Hello, sweetheart," Gabrielle responded with a smile. "Arthur, may I present my daughter, Eloise? Eloise, this is Arthur Gray."
"Nice to meet you," Eloise smiled widely and gave Arthur her right hand.
"Same," Arthur smiled back. "Gabrielle, you forgot to mention that you have a daughter as beautiful as yourself!" He gently kissed Eloise's hand and when it was back at her side, she looked at the pair curiously.
"When did the two of you meet?" She asked her mother.
"We met," Arthur and Gabrielle said together.
"Well, how descriptive," Eloise grinned. She then turned to Adrian. "Adrian, may I present-"
"Thank you," Adrian interrupted. "But we know each other already. He's my half-brother."
"What?" Eloise asked in surprise. "Your half brother?"
"Yes," Adrian nodded. "From my mother's brief relationship with a high-ranking member of the demon community."
This made Arthur scowl. "Adrian."
"Arthur," Adrian returned briefly.
"It wasn't brief!" Arthur protested. "Our mother's relationship with my father went on longer than you believe! Or do you just not want to think about that?"
"Okay, never mind," Gabrielle cried cause she could sense a fight beginning to brew. "Now is neither the time nor the place." She then squeezed Arthur's hand hard, her nails digging into his palm.
"Fine!" Adrian cried.
"Fine," Arthur said. "The things I do for you!"
Selina headed to the front with Ricky, Remiel, Kayla, and Lucas, only to find Steve and Gwen sitting in some of their designated spots.
"I'm sorry," Selina said, trying to be polite. "But what are you doing here?"
"I am God," Steve told her. "I figured everyone would want me close to the proceedings."
"Well, this area is for family only," Selina told him, hands on hips and eyes narrowed. "So move it! I'm sure your son would be more than happy to make some space for you."
This made Lucifer chuckle. Selina had basically given up on religion at the age of ten after her uncle's murder so if Dad thought he could use his exalted position to convince her of anything, he was sorely mistaken.
Meanwhile, Mikael and Elijah made their way to the table that was acting as an altar with Malachai trailing behind a short distance. "Ready to do this, Father? Are you nervous?" Elijah murmured as he settled himself in his place and looked out at the crowd.
"Nervous? No," Mikael shook his head. "Just more than ready to marry the woman I love." He paused. "And son? Thank you so much for making all of this possible."
"Of course," Elijah smiled. "It's my pleasure."
"And thank you, too, for standing as my best man, Malachai."
"Of course," Malachai grinned. "I wouldn't miss this for the world!"
"You're having fun, aren't you?"
"Yes, thinking about how Sybil has made you a dog and cat person is very fun!" Malachai grinned.
"Oh, just shut the fuck up," Mikael muttered. "I don't want to have to kill anyone on my wedding day."
"Yes, sir!" Malachai saluted and gave Elijah a wink. "I certainly will because I don't think I want you to kill anyone either, especially not me."
Mikael took a big breath as the big moment got closer. He couldn't help but think, even though of course he'd never admit it to anyone, but...what if Sybil had changed her mind? What if she'd run out the backdoor of the farmhouse to avoid marrying him and had no plans to return? It would be sort of karmic, he supposed, considering how he was somewhat responsible for Selina nearly doing that to Elijah the last time they got married. Maybe it was what he deserved.
Gathering his courage, he looked up at the aisle and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw a grinning Avery coming toward them as the wedding march filled the space. He must be worrying about nothing. There was no way Sibyl would let Avery complete her maid of honor duties if she had no intention of going through with the wedding.
When she reached them, she took her place on Elijah's left, but not before giving Mikael a reassuring smile, which made him let out his breath and smile back.
At last, it was the moment they'd all been waiting for. When Sybil appeared in her beautiful pink satin dress, he held his breath, keeping his eyes on her as she walked down the aisle, both because she was beautiful beyond words, and because he wanted to be able to catch her in case she slipped wearing those shoes. His heart was beating in his chest as he leaned close to Elijah.
"Look at what a vision she is. I don't deserve her."
"She does look beautiful," Elijah agreed with a nod. "And she believes you do deserve her, or at least that you're worthy of the love she has to give, or she wouldn't be walking down the aisle as we speak."
Sybil was nervous as she walked down the aisle with all eyes on her. But Mikael's comforting smile made her feel better, which was why, along with how wonderful he looked, she couldn't take her eyes off him.
Everyone else, meanwhile, couldn't keep their eyes off the bride as she reached her groom. When she reached him, she gave him the biggest smile before planting her feet and giving her bouquet to Avery.
Mikael looked her over. "Oh, my dear," he murmured. "You're shaking like a leaf!" He grabbed both her hands for a moment before raising one to cup her face. "We don't have to do this; if you want to stop, right here, right now, we will."
Meanwhile, Steve and Gwen, who had been banished to the back, were trying to figure out what was going on. "Is he giving her an out? Maybe there's still a chance we'll win this bet after all!"
"Are you crazy?" Sybil asked. "I've been waiting my whole life to marry my soulmate! There's no way I'm backing out now." She put a hand on her belly. "Besides, we wouldn't be a family without you."
Mikael smiled, tears filling his eyes as he turned to face an eager and expectant Elijah. "Well, it seems that we can proceed," he said.
Elijah cleared his throat, looking over the crowd. "Friends, family, people who had to earn their invitations...we have gathered here today to witness the union of Sybil Vane and Mikael Mikaelson. If anyone (and please don't let there be any interruption) has any objection to why these two should not be wed, speak now or forever hold your peace."
There was a long silence, and then, just when Elijah was about to let out a sigh of relief and begin the next part of the ceremony, John's voice rang loud and clear. "I object!"
"What are you doing?" Freya hissed, wide eyed. She had never wanted to slap someone so much in her whole life.
"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing," he assured her.
"Damn you!" Mikael shouted. "Why would you object?" Sybil was pale and silent beside him, her hand on her belly.
"I am objecting because this is obviously not a love match, or even a match of shared interests," John explained. "The only reason he is marrying you, Sibyl dear, is because you're carrying his child. The moment you give birth to the creature, whatever it will be, he'll throw you out in the street or kill you because regardless of the lies he's fed you, he's never been able to stomach the sight of a demon; not once in his whole existence."
Mikael's whole body tensed and he released his grip on her free hand. "I apologize, my dear," he said, turning away from her. "I know it's our wedding day, but this must be done." He then strode over to John, picked him up by his collar, and shoved him hard against the wall. "You keep speaking and I will kill you with my bare hands!"
"Oh, dear," Selina rose on her legs, prepared to stop the fight, but was relieved when Malachai, Arthur, Adrian, and Elijah beat her to it.
"Father, I understand that you're angry, but you have to let go," Elijah urged as both he and Adrian pulled on Mikael's coat. Malachai and Arthur were doing the same with John.
"How dare you you put a hand on me?" John cried. "Do you remember who I am?"
"I wasn't going to put a hand on you," Mikael assured him. "I was going to murder you!"
Arthur continued to try and pull John away, but John pushed him off as if he were nothing. "Don't touch me, demon!" He snapped.
That was it. Selina could be silent no longer. She ran up to him and began hitting him repeatedly. "That's my son you're talking about and I will not allow anyone disrespecting him to stay in my house. Get out right now!"
"Fine," John agreed and threw his hands up. "I wasn't enjoying myself anyway. Too many demons, for one thing." He scoffed dismissively and then turned to go, casting an expectant look at Freya. "Are you coming?"
She nodded, stood up, and locked eyes with Elijah. "I'm so sorry," she apologized, then followed him out without another word.
Once everyone had calmed down, Elijah called for the wedding to resume. "Okay, now that that interruption is taken care of, let's continue." He looked at his father and Sybil. "I believe you two wrote your own vows?"
"Yes," Mikael nodded as he straightened his jacket and cuffs before looking Sybil in the eye. "Sybil, I hope you don't believe a word that...that...filthy liar said. I would never abandon you that way. My life was empty before that night we met in the alley. You're everything to me."
Sybil smiled and put a hand on his face before kissing him lightly. "I love you Mikael Mikaelson and I would never believe any word that came out of that man's mouth." She gently lowered her forehead against his. "I know you would never betray me that way."
They stood together in silence for a few seconds before Mikael turned to face the audience. "All right, everyone. Let's get it all out of the way, right here, right now. Does anyone else want to object? Or want to comment on my relationship with this strong, beautiful, fearless woman? Yes, she's pregnant, but I'm not marrying her for that fact alone; I am marrying her because I love her with all my heart. And if any of you could have an objection to that..."
The room remained silent until Steve got up and went down his row. "Excuse me, sorry...coming through!" He reached the row where Lucifer and Ellie sat and handed his son a hundred dollar bill before heading back to his seat. "My apologies. Please continue with the wedding!"
"At last, the vows," Elijah said. "Sybil, would you like to start?"
"Thank you, Elijah." She looked deeply into Mikael's eyes as she spoke. "Mikael Mikaelson, you know that sometimes, you're such a pain in my...well, you know," she blushed a little and rolled her eyes. "You're arrogant, pretentious, and self-absorbed."
Elijah grinned and lowered his eyes, trying not to laugh.
"What's so funny?" Mikael asked him. "Sybil, dear, if you didn't want to get married, you could have said something!" He started to walk away, but she took his hand to stop him and held it tight.
"Father, she has a point, but keep listening," Elijah urged.
"But for all that, you're also," Sybil continued, trying to get him to look her in the eye again. "You're also kind to me, loving, tender, caring, and sweet. I'm sorry to let out your big secret, but...since you treat me like the most precious thing in your life...I figure there wouldn't be a better time to mention it. To tell the world how loved you make me feel. And how...how honored I am to become your wife."
Tears were running down Mikael's cheeks. "I treat you like the most precious thing in my life because you are, my love," he informed her. "And the children will be too."
"When I came back to life from heaven, all thanks to Avery-" She paused. "-Thank you for that by the way, Avery."
"Don't mention it," Avery called, glad that her father was several rows back, even though she could feel his eyes boring into her back. "Don't mention it ever again."
"I never thought that bumping into you in an alley would bring true love into my life. But it did! I wish to be by your side for all eternity, Mikael. Share the joys and pains and struggles of each passing day with you, by joining my life with yours in the sacrament of marriage. I love you dearly too, my love. As much as you love me, possibly even more. And today...today is the best day of my life."
As Avery listened to the vows, a smile on her face, she suddenly heard something. Unsure what it was, she turned to get up and investigate. Maybe an animal was nearby. Or a child, although she knew that Selina's youngest had been left with her mother for the day so she wouldn't be underfoot. But just as she got up, the feeling disappeared. It was nothing but a shadow, and the shadow was gone.
Meanwhile, Gwen caught Steve's eye. "Was that Azrael I saw running by? And was she...crying?"
"Poor girl," Steve nodded. "You know, she likes weddings, christenings, that sort of thing. But she never gets to really be involved. People see death and they take it as a bad sign. So she hides. Always."
"Poor girl," Gwen shook her head. "I would yell at you for condemning her to such a fate, but..."
"Someone had to do it," Steve defended himself. "And she volunteered! I didn't make her do anything! I don't make anyone do anything!" He gave Lucifer a sour look. "In spite of what some people might think."
"Shhh!" Gwen put a finger to her lips. "The vows are still going."
"...The night in the alley changed my life too," Mikael was saying. "You were the most stubborn, headstrong woman I'd ever met in my entire life. You fought me like a bull in a rodeo!"
"You bet I did," she said, punching his chest playfully while alternating between laughing and crying.
"I knew right then and there that I couldn't let a woman as beautiful and wonderful as you walk away from me; that I would fight the battle of my life to make you mine. And I fought. I fought myself most of all, to become the best man I could be, the best version of myself for you to love, because you don't deserve anything less."
Sybil sniffled and wiped her eyes. "Oh, baby..."
He smiled, tears filling his eyes before he kissed her hand and turned back to his son, who was waiting. "I love you with all my heart, Sybil Vane. You brought light into my darkness, and love into my pain. I want you by my side for all eternity."
"I want the same," she said and kissed him gently. Then, Elijah's voice, full of good humor, met their ears.
"Don't I have to give you permission before you do that?"
"Sorry," Sybil replied sheepishly while Mikael didn't look sorry at all.
"Well, don't just stand there, son. Get on with it!"
"Sybil Vane, will you take Mikael Mikaelson to be your lawfully wedded husband? Will you promise to love and cherish him, through good and bad, through all your eternal lives?"
"I do," Sybil said firmly. "With all my heart."
"Mikael Mikaelson, do you take Sybil Vane to be your lawfully wedded wife? Will you promise to love and cherish her, though good and bad, through all your eternal lives?"
Mikael gave a smile and a nod. "I most certainly do, with all my heart."
"Do you have the rings?" Elijah asked Malachai and Avery, who produced them immediately.
They were quickly exchanged and then Elijah smiled. "Then by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you man and wife. Now you may kiss the bride!"
The audience cheered as Mikael and Sybil kissed passionately, Sybil's hand cupping Mikael's face. "I love you so much, Mikael Mikaelson," she said over his lips.
"I love you too, my love," he returned, pushing some hair out of her eyes. "So much!"
After Elijah had officially introduced the newlyweds to the audience and they made their way down the aisle, Selina took the stage one last time. "Now that we have all the serious stuff out of the way, lets have some fun and some food! A hot and cold buffet has been set up for all of you while we share in the newlyweds' first dance and the tossing of the bouquet. Eat all you want, but save room for cake, because if I do say so myself, it's delicious!"
"Oh, that's wonderful," Mikael remarked as he lowered himself onto the fancy leather sofa in the living room, then smiled fondly at Sybil, who had removed her shoes and was sitting down beside him with her head on his shoulder. As she smiled, he absently ran his fingers through her hair.
He couldn't help but savor the silence. Everyone else had gone home, except for Selina and Elijah, and Klaus' daughter Natalie, who, after the upsets of the day, had chosen to stay here in the peaceful country to help regain her sanity.
"It was wonderful, wasn't it?" Sybil smiled. "The dancing, the laughter...the cake..."
"Yes," Mikael grinned. "That was wonderful. I saw you have more than one piece of cake."
"Well, it was delicious," Sybil said. "I was a bit bummed about white cake at first but that jelly and cream layer Selina put in there...I think I want one for my birthday!"
"I'm sure we can get it arranged," Mikael told her as Elijah approached them with Selina on his heels.
"Sorry if we're interrupting anything, but we thought this called for a toast," Elijah said and handed a glass of champagne to his father.
"And some orange juice with a little cranberry in there for color for you," Selina grinned and handed Sybil her glass. "I know it's not exactly champagne but I always find it enjoyable when I can't drink."
"Thank you," Sybil and Mikael said together.
Selina and Elijah then moved some chairs closer to them and Selina held up her glass. "To calmer times!" She said with a smile. "And a love that lasts forever."
"I'll drink to that," Sybil remarked and raised her own glass after giving Mikael a smile.
"Me too," Mikael nodded. After he'd swallowed, he cleared his throat. "Selina, Elijah, thank you so much for the wedding the two of you put together for us. We were just talking about how marvelous it was before you came." He paused and caught his daughter-in-law's eye. "Especially you, Selina; I know we haven't always been on the best of terms, but you were able to put your feelings aside and do...an admirable job."
Selina chuckled. "I think saying that we've 'not always been on the best of terms' is the understatement of the century!" She gave him a wink. "But I...I hope the hatchet can be buried for good now."
"It is for me," Mikael responded affably. "Is it for you?"
"Oh, of course!" Selina replied.
"It was definitely our pleasure to create your wedding for you," Elijah told his father. "You would have to be blind not to see how much you and Sybil love each other." He raised his glass. "I wish you an eternity of happiness with the babies to come."
"Well, thank you, son," Mikael said, raising his own glass, then kissing Sybil's forehead. "I love her dearly."
"I feel the same," Sybil assured him.
"Just promise me one thing," Selina requested.
"Of course," Mikael nodded. "In the spirit of getting along, what can we do for you?"
"Please don't renew your vows anytime soon," she said with a chuckle. "It was our pleasure to host this wedding but I think we've done enough work for ten years!"
They all burst into laughter.
"I don't believe you'll need to worry about that," Sybil assured her. "If we ever decide to renew our vows, it will be a much smaller ceremony with just the two of you and our children in attendance along with us."
"You're too kind. That's music to my ears."
"So...what do you have in mind for the honeymoon?" Elijah asked. "Something exotic and exciting?"
"No, we hadn't really thought about it," Mikael shrugged.
"Yeah," Sybil nodded. "Maybe just stay isolated and cozy in Mikael's penthouse for a week or two."
"Our penthouse," Mikael reminded her.
"Yes," Sybil's eyes lit up as it dawned on her. "Our penthouse."
"Seems like a wonderful plan to me," Selina said.
"And maybe we can finish doing the painting in the nursery that your father started," Sybil added proudly.
Elijah choked on his drink when he heard that and Selina had to whack him on the back. "My father painted a wall all by himself?" He got up and went to look out the nearby window. "I don't see any flying pigs or anything but they must be around somewhere!"
"Ha ha," Mikael drawled. "I believe that's enough mockery for one day."
"And I know that paint fumes don't do anything to demons, but if there's any nervousness at all, I'm sure my daughter Lucy can tell you where to get some nice paints that don't have stuff like that in it. She's painted more than one nursery that required such paint."
"Is that so?" Mikael raised an eyebrow. "Sybil assures me we'll be all right with the paint we have, but it probably wouldn't be bad to explore. Thank you, Selina."
Just then, the doorbell rang and Selina rose to her feet. "I wonder who what is? I'll go see." She strode to the front door and opened it, freezing when she saw Klaus on the doorstep. "Klaus!" She whispered.
"Good evening, Selina," he said with his most winning smile. "Lovely to see you. May I come in?"
Selina sighed. He looked almost presentable, except for the large bloodstains on his shirt. She knew she shouldn't let him in, especially not after how he'd behaved...but she didn't exactly know how to make him go away.
Luckily, Elijah was crossing behind her on his way to the bathroom and came to save her. "No, you can't come in, Klaus. You've caused enough trouble today."
"I know," Klaus agreed. "I don't know what got in to me. I know I behaved awfully and I just...I just want to present apologies for that behavior."
"Let him come inside," Sybil said, making Elijah and Selina sigh.
"You heard the lady," Elijah told his brother. "Please come in, Niklaus."
Klaus strode inside and nodded at Sybil and Mikael, who were both glaring at him. "Mikael, Sybil," he said, managing somehow to sound respectful. "I'm...I'm truly sorry for the scene I caused today."
"You hurt me deeply," Sybil said firmly, her hands going to her belly. Then it all became too much and she lowered her eyes to the floor as tears fell from them.
"I know," he said. "I know I did. And I hope...I hope that, with time, you'll be able to forgive me."
"Why are you being so kind all of a sudden, Niklaus?" Mikael asked, his arms crossed over his chest.
"Well, it seems like Sybil brings out the best in men, doesn't she?" Klaus asked. "You should know. You married her. And because of our past history and the fact that she's a wonderful person, I couldn't just ignore the fact that I hurt her." He did his best to try and sound sincere.
Sibyl wasn't quite sure she believed him, but she didn't know what else to do. "I accept your apologies," she said at last.
"And as a token of my new good will," he continued, "I'd like the two of you to enjoy a nice week long or so honeymoon trip on my island," Klaus said, pulling a key out of his pocket and handing it to Sybil. "This is a key to one of the biggest, most beautiful beach houses you ever saw."
"We won't be going!" Mikael spat. "I know about that island of yours! It's a place of debauchery and nakedness and I won't expose my wife to that!"
"Not on the east side of the island," Elijah assured him. "That's just lovely. You'll just see sand and surf and sun. Perfect for a honeymoon."
"Are you sure?" Sybil asked him. She didn't consider herself particularly prudish, but she much preferred the sound of the east side of the island.
"Absolutely," Klaus assured her. "Please take the key and enjoy. I insist!"
Once they finally accepted his offer, he took his leave. "I'll be on my way now so I don't overstay my welcome even more. Have a good evening, everyone." He then stepped outside and closed the door firmly behind him. Then, hands buried deep in his pockets, he made his way down the lonely road back to his car.
Once he was locked in his car, a wicked smile curved his lips. "Yes, enjoy your honeymoon," he said. "I can be very patient. And when the right moment comes, I'll take my revenge on both of you!"
Kol was listening to the radio, humming, and hitting the steering wheel in rhythm as he watched the guests come and go until one particular person appeared in his vision: Amy, alone and wet from the rain that was just beginning to come down. Even though she wasn't close to him, he could tell from the way she was walking that she wasn't happy. It was about time he fixed that. He leaned on the horn, making her start at the noise.
"Was that to get my attention?" She asked as she got in after he opened the door for her.
"Yeah," Kol grinned. "And it looks like it worked."
"I didn't expect your car to be so..small," Amy said as she ran her fingers over the leather interior. "I mean, it's a nice car and all. Doesn't surprise me that you have it. I just...I thought it would be bigger."
Kol grinned. "I love my toys, sweetheart. But I don't need to compensate for anything."
"Oh, I meant that I thought you were luring me in here for sex, but it wouldn't be very comfortable," Amy clarified.
Kol winked. "I don't know. If you're a teeny bit flexible, it's not bad in the back."
Amy gave him a look. "I don't want to ruin your toy."
"I'd rather play with you, eventually," he blurted out. Then he cleared his throat as Amy pretended she hadn't heard. "So..." he told her, starting over. "You like the leather?"
"Oh, yes."
Then he saw her wipe her nose and couldn't stop noticing her tiny shivers. "Here," he said, giving her a tissue from the pack in the console. "And can I give you my coat? You seem cold."
"Thank you, but I'm fine," Amy told him. "I have my pashmina." She wrapped the silk around her shoulders and clenched her jaw so that her teeth wouldn't chatter.
"Oh, don't lie to me," Kol told her as he removed his blazer. "It's obvious you're freezing. Take my blazer and dress yourself. I don't want any arguments!"
"I don't want to!" Amy cried. It would be like being wrapped in his arms and covered in his scent and with the way she was feeling, it was more than she could handle.
"You're sitting in my car," Kol reminded her. "Since you're sitting in my car, what's wrong with wearing my blazer?" Then he realized, a slow grin spreading across his face. "Is it because it smells like me? Is that too much for you to handle?"
"No!" Amy scoffed. "Get over yourself and give me the damn blazer!"
He smirked as she snatched it from his grip and put it on. But instead of warming her, the smell of him attached to it just gave her goosebumps all over.
Now that he'd gotten his way, his smirk was obvious. "What's got you so happy?" She asked. "Is it joy that you got the best of me? Are you happy the whore is in your car?"
She was so shocked when he slapped her that it took her longer than usual to come up with something to say. "What the hell was that for?" She asked, rubbing her red cheek.
"Every time you unreasonably call yourself a whore, I'm gonna slap you or give you the spanking of the century until you get it through your head that you shouldn't talk like that," Kol told her. But he didn't look seductive. He looked extremely irritable. "Am I clear?"
"Fine," Amy sighed. "I won't say it out loud. But you can't control what I think in my head."
"Oh, believe me, I'll find a way," Kol scoffed. "Because I can't stand seeing you be so ridiculous! I thought you were smarter than that. Now think...why did you get in my car?"
"Because I knew you were waiting for me."
"And that tells you what?"
"That you're doing this on purpose," Amy muttered, not meeting his eyes. "To make me uncomfortable."
"No!" Kol shook his head. "I know you and I know that if you were truly uncomfortable and didn't want anything to do with me, you wouldn't come anywhere near my car, much less get inside it and lock the door. So why did you come?"
"Because..." Amy finally met his eyes and he was relieved to see some gleam of sanity in her look. "Because I feel safe with you."
"And I'm glad you do," Kol nodded. "Look, I know you've been through a lot today and I just want to give you the opportunity to get away from it for a while and catch your breath. I promise I won't take advantage of you. You'll have a nice bed to sleep in by yourself, and a calm place to get rid of all the tension in your body. We'll have a glass of wine, and we can talk...talk about anything you want. Because I'm sure you have a lot built up in you that you haven't let yourself tell anyone."
"That...that's all?" She asked with a blush. "Really?"
Kol nodded. "Well, of course I wouldn't refuse you if you wanted to fuck, but...I wouldn't try anything without your permission, of course. Ow!" He cried as she slapped him. "What was that for?"
"Any time you say you wouldn't refuse the chance to have sex with me, I'll either slap you or punch you in the nose," she said, sticking her tongue out at him. "Am I clear?"
He laughed and took her hand, squeezing gently, even though what he wanted more was to kiss her fingers. "You know," he said with a wink, "there might just be hope for you yet!"
"I'm sorry," she apologized, shaking her head, blushing and giving him a smile that she was sure made her look more demented than charming. Then she realized he was holding her hand. "I...I think I want to get out of here," she said.
"Me too," Kol grinned. "Let's get away from this farmhouse and go to my place. It's better than sitting in the rain. Anything is, really."
Selina stood looking out the window behind the large sink at the rain that was softly falling outside while she soaked her hands in some warm water to take a bit of the chill off. Then she took out a soaking hand, grabbed the beer bottle on the table beside the sink and took a large swig.
"Beer?"
She turned around to face Elijah, her cheeks full for a moment before she swallowed. "I drink beer sometimes. You know that."
"Yes, but...usually it's whiskey," Elijah observed and took her free hand. "Is this a cry for help? Did being around Father have some sort of effect that we need to talk about?"
Selina smiled. "Thank you, but no. I just...after everything today, I just wanted a drink that wouldn't be too strong and would help me relax and take a breath."
He smiled and pulled her to him, his hand on the back of her neck to pull her close so he could more easily kiss her forehead gently. "You did wonderfully today," he complimented. "Everything was so well organized, the cake was amazing, and on top of it all, you remained calm! Thank you!"
"You're welcome," Selina smiled and blushed a little. No matter how many times he complimented her, it always meant so much. Then she grabbed him by his tie and pulled him to her. "You know, you didn't do so bad yourself! The jazz band was amazing and your father and Sybil couldn't have asked for a better officiant."
Elijah blushed. "I was proud of it," he said and undid the buttons of the shirt she was using to protect her dress. "Do you believe a word of Klaus' little redemption speech?"
"Of course not," Selina shook her head. "I know him far too well; but it gave Sybil some peace and since they're on their way to the island, anything he's got up his sleeve, we can handle."
"You know," Elijah told her as he put his arms around her. "It took me until today, as I watched them say their vows, to realize that my father truly loves Sybil."
"Yeah," Selina nodded. "And she seems to truly love him, which is..."
"More unbelievable, I know," Elijah agreed as he took the beer from her hand and took a swig.
Selina lowered her head onto his chest. "I truly believe that Sybil has changed your father for the better."
"It appears so," Elijah agreed. "Just a minute. I have something for you."
"What?" Selina asked before feeling something be placed on her head. She put her hand up there. "What did you put on my head?"
"It's one of Kayla's little tiara's from when she was a girl," he smiled. "I think you deserve to be called the queen of the wedding day."
"Aren't you sweet!" She grinned, running her hands over his stubble before giving him a kiss. "Is that all this is about? I think you want to have sex, don't you?"
"Yes," Elijah nodded as he pushed the button down shirt off her shoulders and ran his hands down her back to squeeze her bottom. "Honestly, I've been wanting to get you out of that dress all day. And having sex with a queen will be a new thing for me, if you can believe that."
Selina chuckled. "Well, if the need is that urgent, I wouldn't mind doing a quickie on the counter just to take the edge off, since there's no one else around."
"Oh, no," Elijah shook his head. "I'm not that desperate. I can make it to the bedroom." He chuckled. "If you don't mind being taken on the floor."
Selina grinned. "You can take me anywhere."
He paused. "Unless we have to go pick up Mackenzie..."
"No, Mama wants to keep her overnight and we'll pick her up in the morning. I hope you don't mind that I gave permission without consulting you first."
"Oh, no," he said, kissing her deeply then picking her up as her legs wrapped around his waist before he undid her dress zipper and nipped her neck, making her let out a moan that caused him to wonder if he'd be able to make it to the bedroom at all. "I don't mind a bit. In fact, remind me to send her a thank you note."
