"What are you talking about!?"

Steve didn't bother trying to hide the exasperation in his voice even when Mike used his thumb to gently caress is wrist, hoping to calm him down.

"We don't have enough time until the other two guys get back here.", the Lieutenant urged, then pointed toward the hairpin in Steve's shaking hand, "Leave that with me, I'll see what I can do. In the meantime, ambush Cassidy and Davis, they're busy doing you-know-what…grab one of their nearby guns and lock them up or have them handcuff each other…do what you have to do to free Sarah. Then come and get me."

Feeling the last bit of color drain from his face, Steve hesitantly handed over the hairpin, but remained crouched down, overwhelmed with the order he'd been given.

"I am not going to leave you behind."

"That's not what this is about. We're both going to be toast if Sawyer and Mahoney show up before you free me. Or if they get done raping that poor girl before then. We don't have the time; do you understand that, Stephen?"

The urgency in Mike's voice shook him back to his senses, a faint nod the only answer he managed to give as he watched the Lieutenant begin the tedious process of trying to unlock his handcuffs.

As he stood back up and scanned the room for any usable weapons but not finding anything, Steve reached for the door handle, risking one last glance over at his partner.

Noticing his hesitation, Mike looked up briefly, his blue eyes full of fierce determination.

"Go, Stephen. I gave you an order! Just…just go. And be careful out there; by God be careful out there."
