"Are you hungry?" asked Emily as they entered the house and she headed for the kitchen.
"I'm starving," he answered as he followed her.
"OK, I'll make us some sandwiches."
He came up behind her and turned her around as he took her in his arms. "Not that kind of hungry."
She gave him a look that indicated that she too only had one real thing on her mind.
"I'm happy to be home," said Sonny as his fingers trailed down her back as they laid naked next to one another.
"So am I".
"How was it for you?"
She smiled. "You mean what we just spent the past couple of hours doing or when you were deployed?"
He lifted his eyebrow and gave her a devious look. "Well, I think I have a pretty good idea of how the past hours have been for you."
"It was OK. The first couple of days, I was going around in circles at home. It's like I was waiting for you to walk through the door. In the end it wasn't so much your absence that took it's toll on me, it was not knowing if you were OK. In the past, I somehow always knew what was happening on your deployments."
He nodded. "It's hard not having control over what's happening. It's going to take you time and if you keep busy, it'll help."
"Look, I don't want you to worry about me. When you are away, your head and focus need to be there, not here hoping I'm not going crazy. I've got the hospital now and not only does it get me keep my mind off of what terrible scenario could be coming your way, but I feel useful."
He leaned and kissed her shoulder. "I'm glad you've found something that has meaning to you."
Her phone chimed and they both looked in the direction of her bedside table. Seconds later, his did the same. They looked at each other.
"You should get that. It could be work," she said.
"We just got back."
"That's never stopped bad guys from pulling their shit and needing you guys to get into action sooner rather than later," she replied.
He removed his hand from her lower back, against his strongest of desires and rolled on his side to grab his phone. As he did, she put her arm out and took hers.
As he heard her sigh, he put his phone down and turned back to look at her. She was putting her phone back down.
"What is it?" he asked concerned.
"Jason."
"Jason? What does he want?"
"He wants to talk. What about you?"
"Trent is inviting us to a barbecue tonight."
Emily smiled. "We should go."
He nodded and let his eyes stray on her phone. In the end Jason had been quicker than he would have bet, hence bets had been on. He had imagined at least 24 hours.. He was wrong.
"What are you going to do about Jason?"
"Nothing. At least not right now. If he's not keen on spending his day home with his girlfriend, it's not my case. You are the one I want to be with and talk with, among other things."
He felt content of her answer. "Are you sure about the barbecue?"
"Absolutely. You and I being together and me being out of the Navy doesn't change anything. We are all a family."
He took his phone and texted Trent back, he then put his phone back down and pulled her against him.
"I told Trent we might be a bit lateā¦" he said letting his voice trail off as he started kissing her.
