Chapter Fifty-Nine

Tuesday 17th December 2024

Chloe took a deep breath before she entered her own house, the egg shells she felt the need to walk around grating at her. Chloe's guilt at what happened between herself and Elly eating away at her and her confusion over Elly's declaration that she wanted them to be together, leaving her wondering how she could possibly make the decision that could end up changing her entire future.

Spotting Pierce sitting on the couch, his upper arm in a bandage, Chloe greeted him as politely as she could, "Morning, how's your arm?"

Pierce stood up immediately, rushing over to Chloe and wrapping his arms around her as she'd barely had time to close the door behind her, ignoring the pain in his arm as he squeezed his wife, "Chloe! Where have you been? I was so worried about you! My arm is fine, I'll have the bandage on for a few days. Bloody wolf! All it's bloody fault I got shot!"

Chloe glanced up at her husband as she squeezed his waist, "I'm glad you're okay, I worried about you too. Don't worry about the wolf, forget about her, I bet she's gone now after what you did. I mean, she is gone. I took her to the vets but when I was arguing with them to treat her stab wound, she ran out of there and disappeared. Fell asleep on the way home. Shouldn't have done that but was just too tired to call anyone. I was perfectly fine…as you can see that I am."

"Can't believe the wolf disappeared, I'm going after that bloody thing. I've already alerted the local ranger and the police when they interviewed me after I arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound. We're going to make sure that thing gets locked up like it deserves," Pierce bulldozed as he unwrapped his arms from Chloe, but left his uninjured arm around her waist and led her to the couch where they sat down together.

"Let it go, Pierce. She's gone and I doubt very much we'll see her again…not anytime soon, anyway. Besides, I'm still mad at you for stabbing her. You deserved to be shot in the arm for what you did," Chloe told him firmly, deciding not to be swayed by her husband, now knowing the wolf was Elly.

The woman I spent hours making love to one another and betraying my husband and…

"I was trying to protect you from it! The thing lunged at me and was going to attack me! I was protecting myself," Pierce claimed, ignoring Chloe's claims that the wolf wouldn't be seen for a while, "How are you not angry at it for doing that?"

"I'm not in the mood for this, I'm tired and didn't get a good nights' sleep. If you want to keep arguing we can, later today, but you were in the wrong, Pierce. You were only hurt because you and your stupid mates tried hunting something that won't harm you unless you provoke it. You want to go out tonight and try to hunt it down again, be my guest, you won't find the wolf. Just leave it be, Pierce," Chloe scolded him before standing up and walking to their bedroom on their own.

I don't know what I'm doing anymore...I'm putting up with Pierce and his misplaced anger over the wolf…the wolf that happens to be Elly! Elly, the woman whom I cheated on Pierce with several times the past few days…and is now asking me to be with her… To leave my husband to be with Elly and Aster as a family…the three of us…except Elly doesn't know…I need time to think about what I'm supposed to do…I never thought Elly could possibly love me and throw my entire world upside down…is Elly prepared for me to do the same?

Later that evening, Chloe had been annoyed when Pierce had once more insisted on going out after the wolf, yet relieved knowing that the wolf would be safe since Elly wouldn't be turning into a wolf that night and would be perfectly safe. Even though the realism of knowing Elly was a werewolf and that werewolves were real, was still confusing the hell out of the blonde. Feeling like she had this massive secret that she would need to hide from the rest of the world for the rest of her life.

Chloe was also glad that her husband had gone out for the night once more, leaving her with her thoughts as she sat alone on their couch. Trying to accept the fact that she could no longer run from or ignore needing to make a decision about her future and how that decision could affect the people in her life.

Chloe's thoughts were interrupted by a knocking on the front door.

Elly.

Chloe no longer needed to know who was on the other side of the front door, she knew that knocking action that Elly made off by heart now.

A part of Chloe didn't want to answer the door, worried the decision about her future would be pushed by Elly wanting an answer from her.

But talking things through with Elly about everything and being completely honest with her about their situation was what Chloe decided she needed to do.

Elly was honest with me this morning…I need to be honest with her…and myself…for the first time in more than a month…

Chloe opened the front door, surprised to find an overly anxious Elly on the other side of the door, "Hi."

"Hey," Elly greeted nervously as she stepped inside the house when Chloe let her in.

Chloe suddenly noticed the handbag Elly was holding against her side seemed rather oversized and fuller than her usual handbags, "Everything okay? Did your wound heal fully?"

"Healed perfectly, nothing but a small scar now. But everything's…not really…okay, I saw Pierce and his buddies out hunting again around the complex when I was out for a walk to clear my head an hour ago," Elly admitted.

Chloe sighed, "I'm sorry, I couldn't talk Pierce out on his…ridiculous crusade of wanting to hunt down the wolf and get…it…out of our lives. Good thing I know he won't be doing that tonight…or y'know for at least another month…guess you keep a pretty good track of the full moon cycle. Give it a couple days, Pierce will give up when he doesn't find the wolf. He'll have forgotten all about it by the time you'll be turning into a wolf next month. Guess I should look up your wolfy nights on the calendar myself so I know when they are."

Elly looked at her feet, "I can't give it a few days, Chlo."

"How do you mean?" Chloe was confused.

"Aster's in the car. I packed a few of our things, not much but enough to get by," Elly answered vaguely.

"You're going back to The Pack to stay with them for a few days to get over being attacked by Pierce last night?" Chloe assumed.

Elly swallowed hard as she looked up at Chloe, "I'm going back to The Pack to live with them."

"For…a few days?" Chloe almost repeated.

"For good," Elly clarified.

"Elly, you can't just leave," Chloe was stunned by Elly's decision, "Why would you do this? You're not leaving…you can't."

"Chloe, I have spent all day thinking about this and the only thing I have realized is that I'm a dangerous animal who can't be around humans. I'll do nothing but hurt one of them one day or worse," Elly declared.

"You're not a dangerous animal," Chloe argued, then swallowed, "What could be worse than hurting someone?"

Elly ran her tongue over her bottom lip anxiously, "I didn't stop myself from attacking Pierce because I would've hurt him…I did it because if I had attacked Pierce in my wolf form…I'd have turned Pierce into a werewolf…and that I couldn't have lived with."

Chloe blinked her eyes at the thought of her husband becoming a werewolf, "Okay, I admit, Pierce being a werewolf…isn't ideal…married to a wolf…not sure I could get used to that."

So…Chloe and I shouldn't get married in the future…?

"Pierce Greyson being a werewolf would be the worst thing I could do…since what I did to Finn. I don't like Pierce, he's a controlling manipulating asshole but making him like me…needing to show him the world that I live in…I couldn't do it and for that…I'm a monster. So, I am doing what I need to…to protect those around me," Elly explained.

"By leaving us all again? You can't do this, Elly," Chloe was heartbroken by Elly's decision.

"I have to, I'm protecting everyone. I'm still a monster, I need to be with my people. Aster barely understands as it is, I need you to understand why I'm leaving," Elly begged.

"I will never understand why you'd do this to us again," Chloe stated, "Do you have any idea what you really put us through when you abandoned us for four years? Do you expect me to keep your secret for the rest of my life and not know where you are? You were literally saying the other day that you need to be here for Bea whilst she and Yashvi try to work through how to become parents. Bea needs you. Susan and Karl need you…I need you too…don't go."

Elly smiled shyly at Chloe's words, "Chlo, you misunderstand me. Yes, I need to leave to go live with The Pack so that I'm no longer a danger around humans…but you're not a human I would ever hurt no matter what."

"Okay," Chloe whispered in confusion.

Elly stepped forwards, shoving her handbag to swing onto her back as she took Chloe's hands in her own, "Aster and you are the only humans I know I can be around that I will never hurt no matter what. I can be around you."

"Okay," Chloe repeated, still no less confused.

"I am going to live with The Pack and Aster so I can…be what I am…I'm tired of being terrified that one wrong move and I'll attack someone or turn someone into a werewolf just with the touch of my claws when wolfed out. I know Bea needs me but Bea would never be able to forgive me if I ever hurt anyone she or I care about. That's why I can only be around those I won't hurt," Elly squeezed Chloe's hands, "Come with me and Aster."

"What?" Chloe stumbled out in shock.

Elly stepped forwards even closer to curl her arms around Chloe's waist, pleasantly surprised when Chloe took her in her arms, placing her arms to Elly's hips too, "I can be safe with my wolf family…and I know we will take a lot to get used to being around. But you and I, Chlo…we can make this work. I love you. Come with me?"

We have to make it work…we're inevitable…should I tell Chloe that? Explain to her that she's my mate and no matter how long it takes or what we're up against…one day we will be together. Pierce, Chloe dealing with me being a werewolf, raising Aster, all of it…we'll get through it all and be together…

"Are you asking me to…run away with you and Aster?" Chloe was completely stunned.

"Yes," Elly answered simply, then when Chloe remained silent, "Chloe, I know you have a lot here for you worth staying for…your brothers and family. Your classes at the training center and all the women that you help there. I'm not saying we run away and never come back here or never have any contact with anyone. I'm just saying we go away where we can be safe and happy together. You, me and Aster as a family. No Pierce controlling every aspect of your life. No wasting your life away by not working because Pierce thinks you're too good for that. We can make a life together, Chlo, with Aster. The three of us."

"I don't think we can," Chloe whispered so quietly that Elly only made the words out using her super hearing.

Elly leant forwards, encouraged when Chloe herself leant in for a kiss with her.

Chloe's the one kissing me here…and I'm sure kissing back…so why doesn't she think we can do this?

As they broke from the kiss, Elly pressed her forehead to Chloe's, "We're so good together, Chlo. Yesterday…with you, being with you it was nothing short of perfect. I know leaving Pierce and what you think you know about yourself will change by leaving him and making a new life together with Aster and I. It'll be scary but I love you…and I know deep down you love me too. We can make this work and spend our lives together. Aster loves you, Chlo, the three of us could be the most amazing family."

How is Elly so sure I love her?

Chloe closed her eyes for a moment, "I can't leave Pierce, Elly. I can't pack my things, disappear into the night with you and Aster for the three of us to be a family…no matter how much I want to."

"Why?" Elly pleaded, her heart in agony over why her mate wouldn't want to be with her.

Chloe squeezed Elly's hips, "Elly, there's something that I haven't told you since you returned…I've known for the past few weeks and it happened before you got back but I've been too scared to deal with this and have been ignoring it because I know then I'll have to tell Pierce and…then I can't leave him…"

Even if a part of me wants to be with you.

"You can leave Pierce, Chlo. You're strong enough to walk away from him. You can be with me…we can be happy together. I know we can…and there is not one thing you can say that will have me believe that you and I won't be together as soon as tonight starting our future together," Elly declared with complete positivity.

Chloe felt her shoulders crumple as she accepted what she'd been trying to avoid, "I'm pregnant."

Not one thing…except that…

Next time - Chelly fans unite to riot against...well...me...jk...I hope! But after that, will Chloe stay with Pierce out of loyalty or can Elly convince her Pierce's spawn can't be the devil and they should run away together anyway?
