"So, anything else I need to know before I go into this?"
Dai Tai walked alongside Astro as they made their way through Typhon's tower. It had been a few days since she had returned from her adventure dealing with the gods of the chinese pantheon. Almost right after she had gotten back and had talked to him about arranging a meeting between her and his father.
With everything she had learned about the feud between the titans and the gods, she knew some action had to be taken. The first step had been the deal she had made between the Jade Emperor and the Queenmother of the West. With them having to answer to her, she'd be able to make sure no titans were unfairly hunted down or killed if they wandered into heaven.
At least as far as the Chinese pantheon was concerned anyway.
She figured the next step would be talking to the king of monsters himself. With them being so worried that the titan would take action against them, it only seemed logical to make sure that… well, he didn't prove them right.
If there was going to be any conflict between the titans and gods, she wanted to be able to say she did everything she could to avoid it.
Astro hummed and rubbed his chin. "Let's see… don't bother bowing. He's not one for formality. In fact, you can pretty much drop any formalities period. He may try to intimidate you, but he's not serious. He just likes making people jump. And he'll probably say something rude at some point, at which point you'll have my permission to strike him," he explained.
Dai Tai raised an eyebrow. "Funny, but I'm being serious."
"I'm not joking. I really wish I was, but I'm not," Astro said, scowling.
Dati Tai clicked her tongue as they approached the door. Astro pushed then open and they made their way inside. Typhon was sitting on his… well, it was a little too old and plain looking to be called a throne. Typhon was leaning forward casually as he watched them approach.
His senses had picked up on the aura of a divine being rather quickly. It had been who knows how long since he'd picked one up in mewni. "So, am I to assume that this is the little demi-goddess who stood up to her pantheon?" he asked, an amused smirk on his face. Astro nodded, and then gestured towards Dai Tai.
She walked forward and introduced herself. "Hello King Typhon. It's an honor to meet you. I'm Dai Tai, the demi-goddess of Revolution. I want to thank you for taking time to meet with me," she said politely.
Typhon hummed and rubbed his chin. He then turned towards his son. "Well, she's a pretty one. I'm impressed boy. A mewman princess, a septarian, and a demi-goddess. Not nearly as vast as the one that I had, but what you like in numbers you make up for in diversity," he said chuckling.
Dai Tai looked confused, while Astro went wide eyed. "Uh, excuse me?" Dai Tai asked.
Astro sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, turning away to hide the blush on his cheeks. "It's nothing, he's just being stupid…" he said before shooting him a glare. "I told you to take this seriously. She's got something important to talk about."
Typhon let out another amused chuckle, while Dai Tai slowly connected the dots. "Wait, you think-?! Oh no! It's definitely not like that!" she said quickly.
"Don't react to it. You're just encouraging him," Astro said.
Typhon waved his hand. "Calm yourself girl. I'm only joking. I know how timid you younger lot are about taking partners these days."
"Not whoring around is not 'being timid'," Astro said, narrowing his eyes.
He ignored his son and looked back to Dai Tai. "I have to say, I was quite surprised to hear you wanted to meet with me. I assumed even the young gods would have been advised to stay as far away from me as possible. Or has age simply caused my name to lose some of the weight it once held?"
Dai Tai shook her head. "I don't think so. From the way the gods I know talk about you and other titans, they're still pretty worried. Which is exactly why I'm here. Did Astro tell you about what happened?" she asked.
"Not really. He told me the gist of it, but I'd be happy to hear the details."
"It's kind of a long story…"
"I have time."
Dai Tai sighed. "Alright then. Here's what happened…"
"HAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Dai Tai watched as Typhon sat back in his chair and laughed. Of all the reactions she had expected to get from him, laughter hadn't been very highly ranked among them.
The titan wiped a tear away as he looked back down towards her. "So you strong armed them into obeying did you? Quite a bold move. I'm fairly impressed little one. From the sounds of it you turned your entire pantheon on their heads. And even struck down one of their greatest warriors for good measure. A fine day's work."
Dai Tai flinched a bit at the last part. "Well, it wasn't like I was trying to kill him. I just… I had to defend myself and my friends," she said. Having to kill Earlang Shen still sort of bugged her. It was the first life she had taken, and… it was a weird feeling.
"Ah, your first kill I assume," Typhon said, recognizing the look on the girl's face. "I know coming from me it might not mean much, but I suggest you don't fret over it. From the sounds of it, this Earlang Shen's death was long overdue. You should be proud to have finished off the bastard."
Dai Tai winced, and Astro palmed his face. "Father…" He knew it was hard for him to understand how Dai Tai was feeling about it. His father had been fighting and killing for so long the concept of feeling guilty about it was long lost to him.
"Uh… thank you, I guess," Dai Tai said, rubbing her arm. "I'd still rather just not have to do it again. I don't want anyone else to die at all actually. That's why I came here to offer a peace treaty between my pantheon and the titans. I want to make sure nothing like this happens again."
Typhon hummed and leaned on one of his hands. "Is that right?"
Dai Tai nodded. "I know my pantheon has hunted down countless titans, but with the rules I put in place I can make sure that comes to an end. They won't be allowed to leave without my permission, and if any titans wonder inside heaven then I'll be notified before anybody does anything towards them," she explained.
Typhon grunted. "Yes, ideally that does work as a solution. But it relies on them actually keeping their word. And in my experience with the gods, honesty is very hit or miss," he said bluntly. There were certain gods who for better or worse would always keep their word, which he respected. But others were not beyond twisting their words or just outright lying to get what they wanted.
"I know. But I think Jade Emperor and Queenmother of the West will keep their word. They may have gone about it the wrong way, but they do want to protect their people from any potential threats. I think if you can tell other titans not to bother them, let them know the chinese pantheon is not a threat to them, there can be peace."
Typhon stared down at her curiously. He had no doubt her own intentions were sincere, but he wasn't convinced about this pantheon of hers. He couldn't remember having crossed paths with this Jade Emperor before, which means he either hadn't or just wasn't impressed enough to remember him.
But based on what she'd told him about him to his wife, it was hard to believe that he could take his word very seriously. "I don't want any war with your pantheon. Not if I could avoid one. But it would be hard for me to commit to this without knowing for sure that they'll keep their end of the deal. What assurance do I have that this killing of my kind won't continue? That they won't just try and keep doing this behind your back?"
Dai Tai looked down at the ground for a moment. She honestly did feel like both the Jade Emperor and Xiwangmu would honor their agreement, but she couldn't blame Typhon for not being convinced. He hadn't been there. He didn't know them. All he had was her word to go off of.
But…
"Their strongest warrior is dead, and… their source of immortality is gone." Both Astro and Typhon looked surprised at this. "I told you I destroyed the peaches. It'll take some time for them to grow back. A lot of time actually. They're not going to risk any kind of battle without those to fall back on."
Typhon narrowed his eyes. "Why would you tell me this…?"
"Because I want to be honest," she said simply. "Astro trust you. You said you wanted prace. I believe you. And I don't think you're the kind of person to take advantage of something like that."
Typhon reached up and scratched his head. "Heh, I would love to see the look on your fellow gods faces right now. Exposing their weakness to what they consider their greatest threat? I can just see the color draining from their faces," he said before sitting up. "Very well little goddess. I'll agree to your terms."
Dai Tai went wide eyed. "Really?"
"Yes. Your actions are genuine, and my son vouches for you. I've seen my people bleed enough, and if this can lessen the burden on them I'd be more than willing to go along with it," he said. "Besides, this experience has shown me just how much my past mistakes have cost, and how much I need to make up for them."
Dai Tai and Astro looked at him confused. "What do you mean by that?" she asked.
"There was a time when the gods wouldn't have dared to hunt down my kind. But clearly in my absence they've grown more bold. So bold that even after my return they would continue on like nothing happened. And to make matters worse, I wasn't even aware of it," he said before standing up.
"I need to reestablish contact with the titans of the other realms. Keep a closer eye on them. And while I'm doing so, I'll spread word of our agreement that the Chinese Pantheon will take no actions against us. And that any unprovoked action taken against them will result in answering to me."
Dai Tai felt a bit of relief at the words. If Typhon really was as powerful and influential as he claimed, it wasn't likely any titans would go against his orders. Especially if it meant facing his wrath. "I did say unprovoked, however little one. If your pantheon breaks this agreement, then I will have to take action. And I won't need an army to do it. I'll show up and deal with them myself," he said, a wicked smirk on his face.
She looked at him with a determined expression. "I'll make sure it won't come to that."
He chuckled. "I don't doubt it. And rest assured that you pantheons state of weakness won't be shared to anyone else," he said. He could tell as far as it was in her power, she would keep her word. "By the way, there's one more deal I would like to arrange," he said, raising his finger. Dai Tai raised an eyebrow. "In exchange for the titans slain, I'll require a hundred immortal souls from your pantheon as repayment…"
"WHAT?!" Dai Tai asked, shocked. "I-I can't do that! That's-!"
"No! No! No! He does NOT require that!" Astro said quickly, cutting in. He glared up at his father who was chuckling at both of their expressions. "He's just messing with you, in a way that is clearly disturbing, and wrong, and NOT funny!"
Typhon leaned back and laughed. "Oh lighten up boy! I'm only joking!" he said. "Ah, the look on your face little one. Absolutely priceless."
Dai Tai narrowed her eyes. She knew Astro said he was an oddball, but if this was his idea of humor he really was messed up in the head. "If I kick him, the deal isn't going to be off, is it…?" she muttered, looking towards Astro.
"No. Kick the shit out of him…"
