Dark Kingdom 61
"So that's how you invested your salary. Very chic."
Diamond was just the same again.
Apparently he had taken the silent car ride to Mamoru's apartment and put on the familiar mask.
Usagi, on the other hand, was still full of questions. And she couldn't wait to get this finally answered.
"Anyone want some more coffee?" , asked Mamoru on the way to the kitchen. He had barely even looked at Usagi.
Not only she seemed to have noticed, Diamond sighed: "Don't you think you're getting too excited with your mood?"
"So I'm exaggerating.", Mamoru snorted contemptuously while he filled the coffee machine.
"Yes.", replied Diamond. "She is fine. We came in time."
"Not us. You!"
Usagi startled at Mamoru's answer.
"You couldn't help her because you preferred to drown your frustration in alcohol." ,
Diamond countered in the same volume.
"I could have taken it out on you a little longer."
It seemed absurd how the two faced each other. Two wild animals alike, baring their teeth that could attack each other at any moment.
Diamond was the first to give in.
"I'm going to take a shower.", he said and turned away. A few seconds later a door could be heard slamming.
Usagi hardly dared to breathe, it was suddenly so quiet in the huge apartment.
Mamoru broke the calm with the clink of cups as he took them out of the cupboard.
Should she speak to him? And then?
He was angry. Maybe her too. She hadn't quite figured it out yet.
She could ask him. But he looked busy. Now he was even reading a newspaper.
Usagi felt more and more redundant. Sighing softly, she headed for the door.
"Where are you going?" , Mamoru asked flatly.
"Home.", Usagi stuttered, pointing awkwardly to the apartment door.
"Half the yakuza is after you and you are seriously considering just walking out the door?" , Mamoru sounded incredulous. Like she's a stupid little kid to make fun of.
"Yes, I do. I'm not needed here anyway. You're ignoring me anyway." , Usagi snapped at him.
"That amazes you? How many times have I told you not to put yourself in danger? Or at least let me know beforehand."
"How about without a phone number?" She was so angry that she clenched her hands into fists. That stupid idiot!
Mamoru didn't answer. He looked at her completely blankly before finally walking past her into the living room.
Usagi immediately knew which drawer he was opening. It was the same as when he told her his secret.
Back then, how that sounded. It was only a few weeks ago.
"Here.", He tossed her something small.
She could just catch it and looked astonished at the thing in her hands.
"A phone?" She wondered. It was exactly the same clamshell phone that Mamoru had. Only in pink. With a small pendant in the shape of a chubby rabbit.
"Is that for me?" , Usagi asked. She couldn't believe it.
It was only when Mamoru nodded silently that a grin spread across her face.
"My number is saved. I expect you to call in before you plan another suicide squad."
"It was because of Naru.", she justified herself.
"When will you finally understand that you've lost her?", Mamoru pedantically closed the drawer again.
"Sapphire gave her drugs."
"I suspected so. Otherwise he won't get the girls to do what he wants." He poured himself coffee into a cup.
Usagi was silent.
What should she have said? Okay, an apology might not have been bad. For not believing him. That she hadn't listened to him when he warned her not to interfere in Sapphire's business.
Or getting too close to Diamond.
She twisted the corner of her mouth. Mamoru had really hit him. Because of her. At least indirectly.
Was he really that jealous? Hard to imagine that the otherwise strong and controlled man she had met showed a completely different face when it came to the woman at his side.
That flattered her a little.
Not for the first time did the thought flicker that he might feel more than he was admitting.
Why else would he have punched Diamond?
And why else would he have come to school to give her a lecture?
Usagi remembered it instantly. The kisses. His hands. And especially his tongue.
God, what he had done was simply indescribable. The very idea of it made her heart beat faster again. Her stomach tingled and a never-before-known heat spread between her legs.
"What are you thinking?"
Mamoru's voice startled her from her daydream.
He looked at her searchingly.
"Nothing at all!" , she replies quickly.
"And why are you blushing?" , he asked.
"I won't be. I'm just warm.", Usagi pointed to her thick tights. She was really pretty hot. However, that was probably not just because of her choice of clothes.
Mamoru shrugged his shoulders: "Take off your clothes."
"What?" , croaked Usagi, eyes wide.
"The tights."
He pointed with his cup in her direction.
After a moment of incomprehension on the part of Usagi, she finally nodded and sat down on the leather couch.
To her astonishment, the fabric was not cool as expected. So either it was really incredibly warm in here or there were already heated sofas.
Inwardly shaking her head at her own thoughts, she slowly pushed the thick fabric off her legs.
The tights had left some lint on her skin, which she rubbed away as a precaution.
When she looked up again, she met Mamoru's gaze, who was watching her with wide eyes with the cup to his mouth (apparently he was about to drink).
"What is it?" , she asked surprised and followed his gaze.
Which ended right between her open thighs.
Usagi immediately shot the blood to the head. She quickly pressed her knees together.
How embarrassing. Why couldn't she even think before doing something?
