Erin had really enjoyed the last two weeks, she was working a nine to five job and definitely wasn't complaining. She got to drop and pick Lily up from daycare and the stress of the job definitely wasn't in the back of her head. Although she did still worry about Jay being out there but she knew he was good at his job and everyone would look out for him.
Everyone was definitely surprised when Hank said Erin was being transferred to the academy but he said it wasn't permanent and explained how he was asked who he'd recommended out of his unit and it was her. She'd had experiences in more then just intelligence and he did believe that if he had been asked if one of his members be transferred there for a little while to cover someone it would be her.
Jay smiled as he walked out and saw Lily playing with her tea set on the ground, "Daddy tea party?"
"Daddy's gotta go to work, sorry baby." He said kneeling down to kiss her cheek.
Her bottom lip dropped and she started crying as Jay bought her into his arms. He felt the same way, he missed his daughter. They'd been working the same case for the last couple days and it was getting absolutely nowhere.
"How about we go visit daddy and everyone when I pick you up from daycare?" Erin suggested as she popped her head out from the kitchen.
She nodded into his shirt as Jay rubbed her back, "I think everyone would love that."
He lifted her up in his arms as she stayed closed not loosening the grin on his shirt one bit, "I hate this Er."
"I know," she squeezed his arm, "But you have the weekend off remember then we will be all yours."
"If we even close the case by then. It's like we are constantly going around in circles."
"Get anything from the girlfriend?" He shook his head, "Maybe it's time to go back to the start look over all the facts, maybe you have missed something."
"Maybe," he shrugged slightly then looked down to the little girl, his shirt now had drool over it, "She asleep?" He asked Erin quietly.
Erin tip toed around to behind Jay, "Sound asleep."
"I had to put her back to bed last night." Jay said.
"I think she's getting sick as-well, Miss Adam's rang me yesterday and said there was a bug going around," Erin felt her daughters forehead, "She doesn't feel warm."
"Maybe she's just going through that stage."
"Maybe," Erin shrugged, "Big girl bed this weekend?"
"Don't even remind me."
She laughed, "You better get going."
He nodded and slowly passed Lily to Erin, "Love you."
"Love you too. Stay safe."
Just as Jay was about to walk out the door a lightbulb went off in his head, "Don't you have an obstetrician appointment today?"
"Uh yeah."
Jay was waiting for her to tell a time but she went quiet, he shut the door and walked back to her, "Talk to me."
"What happens if we get there and there's no heartbeat?"
"Is that why you didn't remind me?" She shrugged, he bought her and Lily close and kissed her head, "I'm in this with you Er, all of it remember," he lifted her head up and fiddled with her rings, "Thats what these mean, we are a team."
She nodded, "Okay. It's at three."
"See you there." He kissed her before actually walking out this time.
Halstead was knee deep in the case notes, going over everything while the team yet again was out talking to witnesses to see if they had missed something.
A male had been killed, strangled to death. He had no family but a girlfriend that knew nothing. But somehow Jay had a feeling about her, yet all she was doing was acting distraught, if it was an act anyway.
"Here you go Halstead." Hailey said sitting a coffee cup down next to him.
"Ah thankyou." He said taking a sip.
"What are you doing?"
"Whenever I got so confused and frustrated with a case that we couldn't solve Erin always told me to go back to the start and make sure no one missed anything, sometimes it didn't help but then sometimes there was something."
Hailey nodded, "So have we missed anything?"
"I still keep going back to the girlfriend, something doesn't quite sit right.
"She seemed pretty upset and genuine to me."
"Everyone can put on a good act though."
"True, what's your theory then."
"I still have no idea," As he said that Adam raced up the steps, Atwater on his heels, "What you got?"
"Old lady that lives in their building said she saw another man coming and going while Jackson was always at work. We looked into the girlfriends phone records, she's cheating on him."
"How'd you get her phone records?"
Adam shrugged, "Once the DA knew she was cheating on him we had probable cause."
"Well let's go pick her up." Jay said motioning to Hailey.
Hailey turned her wrist to look at her watch, "Jay it's 2:45, don't you have an appointment."
Jay flung his head back, "Ah. Shit, yeah I do."
"It's all good I will take Adam with me."
"Sure?"
They nodded, "Yeah go."
Jay pulled up at the same time Erin did, he walked over and opened the door for her, causing he to job a little, "Sorry was just trying to be a gentleman."
"Weren't you ever taught not to sneak up on a cop?" She chuckled.
He shrugged, "You ready?"
"Yeah." She said grabbing his hand nervously.
"It will be okay I can feel it."
She nodded, "Get anywhere with the case?"
"The girlfriend was cheating on our victim."
"Really?"
"Doesn't make me think she was actually the one to strangle him, I mean she's half his size. But I do believe she's behind it."
"Maybe the boyfriend done it? Think about what does the girlfriend get if the boyfriends out of the picture? Was he wealthy? Did they own anything?"
"His parents passed away a couple months ago, he got their inheritance. I wonder if she was listed to get anything on his Will?"
"Maybe." Erin shrugged.
"Let me make a phone call before we go in?"
"Yeah no worries."
Once Jay came back they headed for the waiting area, "So how have you only figured all this out now?"
"We couldn't get access to her phone records, DA didn't believe we had enough on her to look into her further, couldn't just go on a hunch. So when everyone went back to question people in the building again, an elderly lady that had been away the last couple days came home and told us about this other guy."
"So now they are bringing the girlfriend in?"
"Yep and hopefully that gets us the name of this other guy. But anyway, enough on the case. We need to focus on this."
She smiled, "Yep."
"Erin Halstead?" A nurse called out, Erin nodded and stood up, followed by Jay. They both followed the nurse into the room, "If you want to put this on and lay down on the table Dr Proudman shouldn't be too long."
"Thankyou." Erin nodded and went to get changed while Jay sat on the chair next to the bed waiting for her.
Once Erin was laying on the bed waiting for the doctor Jay could feel her nervousness by her grip, he kept giving her reassuring squeezes but he knew she wouldn't relax until their was a healthy baby in her arms.
"Good afternoon Halsteads, it's good to see you again Jay." Nina said entering the room.
"You too doc."
"How we feeling Erin."
Erin smiled, "Good, just a little nervous."
"That's completely understandable. Let's have a look shall we?" They both nodded as Nina set up the machine and started moving the ultrasound around on Erin's stomach, then the familiar whooshing sound took over the room, "There's your baby."
Erin had tears rolling down her face and so did Jay, he dropped his head then looked back up at Erin, kissing her hand, "I love you."
"Love you more," she smiled at him, "Does everything look okay?"
"Perfect, everything is measuring good. Now because you miscarried last time and once again I say this because it's one hundred percent true, nothing about what you did caused it, unfortunately these things just happen. But because of all this I want to see you regular every fortnight just to give us all a piece of mind?" Nina explained.
"Thanks doc." Erin smiled.
"So I will leave you to get dressed and then just go to the front desk and make another appointment for two weeks okay?"
Jay shook Dr Proudmans hand, "Thanks doc, we appreciate it."
Once the doctor was out of the room Jay turned to Erin, "See everything's okay."
"For now." Erin shrugged and out her shirt and pants back on.
"I don't have to go back to work, they got him."
"What happened?"
"I don't wanna talk about it right now, I just wanna pick up Lily and take my girls home." Jay said.
"Okay let's do it." Erin nodded as they walked out.
Jay knew this pregnancy was going to be hard but he also knew he just had to keep reassuring her everything was going to be alright even if it was hard for him to believe, it was his job to be strong for the both of them.
