Week twelve of pregnancy, a sigh of relief for many because their past the first trimester. High chances of having an early miscarriage. But for others still a scary time when you have experienced it all before.
Although all the thoughts and worries were going crazy in her head she was letting Jay enjoy it more. She'd let him rest his hand on her stomach, she'd actually talk to him openly about symptoms she was feeling, the main thing was she'd actually started opening up about it and that was all Jay cared about. But he knew that in two weeks time it would be the toughest. Because the last time when she was fourteen weeks pregnant they had so much joy yet so much sadness. They found out the baby was a boy, she had officially popped, they were adding more things to the nursery but then everything was bought to a sudden holt. So he prayed with every bone in his body that this baby would be okay.
Jay joined Erin in the shower this morning, they hadn't had a lot of fun lately with Lily still occupying their bed most nights so whenever Erin invited him to shower with her he always jumped at the opportunity.
As their breathing mellowed out they were standing in each other's embrace as the water trickled over their body's, "I've missed you."
Erin looked up and kissed Jays jaw line, "Me too. But I feel like Lily's getting better."
Jay frowned, "Better? What planet are you living on? I mean we are sleeping in the same bed aren't we?"
"Okay maybe she still wakes us up every night but we only have to put her to bed once instead of three or four times. So in my eyes that's progress."
"Mmhmm. Sure, if you say so."
She chuckled, "What are we suppose to do? We are doing everything the books say."
"Stay strong I guess. Never give in. Even when she gives you those eyes."
"What eyes?"
"The ones you give when you want to get your own way, which most of the time leads to you getting your own way. She's like a clone of you and I'm the outsider."
"Your ridiculous. I don't know what your talking about." Erin played it off, knowing that herself and her daughter could get Jay to do absolutely anything with their charm.
"Sure. Now I'm starting to prune, let's get out."
"But it's so nice." She snuggled in closer, tightening her grip around him, even though she knew with the slightest tug he'd be free.
"My skin is red raw because you have to have the water just before boiling point, I'm getting out."
"Your no fun. And it's barely even hot. Your just worked up." She said running her fingers down his abs.
He flung his head back taking one last breath, it hitching us she got closer to his weakest region when it came to her, "God woman," he grabbed her thighs lifting her up and leaning her gentle against the shower wall, "Quickly. And this time stay quiet. Don't want my daughter asking why mummy is yelling and me having to give some type of explanation."
"Yes sir." She said beginning to kiss him deeply.
Jay was at the boxing gym with the guys, they had the day off but of course like nearly every other day they were on call.
"So how's the little guy Adam?" Jay asked unstrapping his gloves to grab a drink of water.
"Good I can't believe he's nearly six months old."
"Yeah they don't stay little forever." Antonio chuckled.
"Tell me about it. And take every chance you get while he isn't crawling or walking or visiting you in the middle of the night." Jay said, a little frustration in his voice.
The guys laughed, "So she's still doing that. How's that helping the sex life?" Antonio asked.
"Both of us get up so many times during the night we are always exhausted, between that and work. But I do have to say she's started only coming in once, we put her back in bed and she stays there." Jay explained.
"So progress?" Adam smiled.
"Yeah a little. Parenthood definitely is all about patience." Jay nodded.
Atwater took a big gulp of water, "I feel like I need to find myself a lady and settle down. You guys are all growing up."
"Your still young, don't be in too much of a hurry." The others told him in sync.
"So speaking of families and children Halstead you and Erin thinking about trying again?" Adam asked knowing it was still a touchy subject.
Jay gulped, still no one knew that Erin was pregnant, "Uh we aren't trying for it to happen but we aren't trying to prevent it either. Just letting nature take it's course you know."
They all nodded, "Yeah bro."
Hank knocked on Erin and Jays door, he could hear Erin calling Lily's name from the other side, he was greeted by both Erin and Lily, "Well hello you too."
"Hey Hank, this one has ants in her pants today." Erin said exhaustedly as she passed Lily to Hank.
"Hey munchkin. What do you say, you want to paint grandpa a picture while I talk to mummy?" She nodded, "Okay." He put her down and watched as she ran over to her activity table and started colouring.
"What's going on?"
He nodded towards the kitchen, "Over here."
"Okay." She said concerned.
"Want to talk to you about Halstead."
"Hank your worrying me."
He smiled, "Nothing to worry about it's just I have been doing some thinking. I'm not getting any younger, they will force retirement on me in a few years so it's just got me thinking."
"Okay." She said confused, waiting for Hank to get to his point.
"I want Jay to think about taking the sergeants exam. So then when the time comes I can put his name forward to be the one to take over the unit."
"Really? What about Antonio? I thought he'd be your first pick."
Hank nodded, "Yeah but he's been having some personal issues, I'm not sure how long he's going to be around but I don't want to get into that."
"I don't really know why your talking to me about this and not Jay."
"Because I want to know your opinion, I want to know if your going to be okay with him taking on that type of position. It will be harder for him and you guys as a family."
"You know I will support him no matter what choice he makes."
"You know how much I'd like it if you took on my position but..."
"I'm a mum now, I couldn't do it. Maybe five years ago that was my number one goal but not now," She said as she cut him off, "You won't be retiring for a while though won't you?"
He chuckled, "Yeah they can't get rid of me too easily. The only reason I'm talking about it now is because I want him to get use to the reins while I'm around, he's been taking charge a lot recently so I know he's going to have no trouble stepping into my shoes."
"It's a big step. Massive. So because your coming to me do you want me to talk to him about it or?"
Hank shook his head, "Nah I just wanted to give you a heads up. I'll talk to Halstead."
"I think he'd be honoured Hank. He will be a great leader."
Hank smiled, "He already is. Even if we don't always see eye to eye."
