A.N. — Woohoo, back-to-back one book characters (and there's a third coming tomorrow). This fellow had Filch's job before him, and apparently his love of corporal punishment, too. As always, I do love an opportunity to explore the darker aspects of these "children's" books.

65. Apollyon Pringle

Apollyon Pringle didn't care if he was hated. Hogwarts employed him to monitor conduct and uphold rules. There was very little he wasn't allowed to do, to ensure the school's decorum remained spotless. Apollyon exploited this leeway with abandon, and the students feared him for it.

Nothing killed the mood quite so quickly as a caning. The look of fear on the students' faces when they were discovered was a secondary thrill to the sound of rattan whistling through the air and laying into flesh. Hearing them curse his name after was a sure sign the lesson had sunk in.
