Lullaby

Miko and beast stared each other down, their power a cacophony of opposing forces in a room not designed to handle the raging, out-of-control powers of two children who struggled to regain control.

They attacked at the same time, her arrow colliding with his acid in a boom that sent the children flying in opposite directions. Their collisions with the walls on either side of the room sent the roof to rattling, the walls trembling. Though both were winded, neither seemed able to stop.

Kagome, panting, heard the humming of the lullaby. It was a balm to her battered, quivering soul even as she summoned more magic to her finger tips. Wait! Her fingers paused, the purple energy hesitating, before the darkness wrestled away control again.

We will kill him, the darkness said, and you will reign in his place.

Rage poured through little Kagome but it still was not enough to stop the darkness from gathering energy between her two small hands as Sesshoumaru approached.

The darkness pushed her to stand, the impurity building inside of her tiny, beating heart—and summoned more power than Kagome knew what to do with between hands nicked and bruised and bleeding. Fear overwhelmed her, and Kagome was on the verge of giving up, of resigning herself to the darkness.

And there was singing.

Kagome and the darkness paused as they both turned to find the source. Raging storm blue eyes met regal amber—Fuiasu was humming. She didn't know the words, couldn't possibly understand the language of Inu, but it was enough to remind Kagome that the fight was only over if she gave up.

The darkness screeched as the child found a new well of inner strength, as the impurity in her heart began to light to that clear, crystalline pink again. Determined to at least deal the child, and the trembling soul within, this one last blow, she unleashed the dark magic on the young Daiyoukai.
