Episode Name: "Yesterday's Heroes"
Episode Summary:
Tom is upset that Kiru is Chaor's ancestor. Sarah and Peyton don't seem to care much about it, but Kaz is enjoying that historic fact. Tom goes to see Najarin to ask about Perim history, specifically if Maxxor's family originally came from the Underworld. Najarin dodges his questions and then has to go help search for Underworld spying devices. Tom goes back in the past to search for answers.
He goes back to Kiru Village and finds out they were attacked a powerful Underworlder named Kaal. A young Overworlder named Afjiak comes to greet him and bring Tom to his teacher/master. Tom is shocked to see that Afjiak's master is a young Najarin. Tom explains everything to him about Dranakis Threshold in exchange for information about where to find a Creature named Vlar. Tom hasn't heard good things about Vlar, but wants to meet him because he looks like he could be Maxxor's Ancestor. Najarin gives him advice on where Vlar might be, so Tom goes there.
Vlar finds Tom before Tom finds him. Vlar attacks Tom from behind and steals his scanner. Vlar will not give it back unless Tom helps him steal from Kaal. Tom agrees to the demands since he has no choice. While they are sneaking around Kaal's land, they pass a group of Overworlders who have been enslaved to dig for precious stones. Vlar just keeps moving, but Tom points out that there is only one guard overseeing the Overworlders. He could easily knock them out and rescue them. But Vlar shows his true colors and says he doesn't care about them.
Meanwhile, Kiru and some other Overworlders are negotiating with Kaal to free the Overworlders. They were just about to seal the deal, but then one of Kaal's minions alerts him that Vlar has stolen from him. Kaal is angry and thinks the negotiation was just a distraction so Kiru can have someone steal the gems. Kiru tries to talk and say he didn't do that, but Kaal will not believe him.
After escaping, Vlar gave Tom his scanner.
Tom goes back to Najarin to talk and ask why he didn't say that they meet in the past. Najarin says he made the decision to not interfere with history. If he tells Tom what happens then Tom would change history.
Season 3, Episode 6
Old history buried
So present Creatures save face
For all Tribes involved.
Notes: I've always believed that Overworlders hate thieves. Guess the other Tribes feel similarly, but I think other Tribes don't think it is as bad of a crime as the Overworlders. Vlar could have been that creature to create that mindset in Overworld culture. Because he stole from Kaal, his tribemates didn't get rescued. Not only that but it ruined a treaty between the Overworld and Underworld. Kiru was so close to getting Kaal to never take another Overworlder but all his progress in the meeting went down the drain just because of Vlar. I would bet that every Overworlder at that time heard what happened and thus created that strong stigma against thieves.
So Chaor's family was from the Overworld a long time ago and he is also related to the greatest Overworld hero. This hasn't come up before, so I'm guessing either the current Creatures don't know about that part of history, or it's taboo to talk about it. Maxxor's family also has a few black sheep in the past. This is what my haiku was about. The fact that Chaor is a descendent of Kiru would be a blow to both the Overworld and Underworld. So it makes since that knowledge would be kept secret.
Question: What do you think about Vlar?
