Out of Her Mind

A coma has Kara living a life she didn't think she could have.

Hi Lovelies. I just threw this together tonight. Not sure if it even makes sense but I hope you enjoy it anyway!

Kalex. Fairly PG.

"Hey," Kara said tiredly as she leaned against the doorjamb of her loft. "Why didn't you just use your key."

"I was worried about you," Alex replied. "But… I didn't want to intrude if you were… if you didn't want to talk to me."

"You were giving me the opportunity to not answer the door?" Kara asked, eyebrows raised. "I don't blame you for what happened, you know," she added, pulling her girlfriend into a hug and then backing up to bring them both inside. "But I'm… not ready to come back to the DEO yet."

Alex hugged Kara tighter and then kissed her gently. "I miss having you there," she whispered. "But I get it."

"I'm sorry," Kara breathed as she greedily took in her lover's scent. "I just needed some space… but not from you, Alex… never from you." She brought their lips back together, losing herself in a moment of sweet passion that made Alex hold her even closer.

"Can I stay?" Alex asked.

"Stay…" Kara said at the same time, grabbing the lapels of her lover's leather jacket and tugging.

Kara walked backwards toward the bedroom, with Alex following, slowly removing pieces of clothing from the brunette's body and dropping them onto the floor as her lover returned the favor. They were both naked, breathing hard and sharply as they fell onto the bed and Kara closed her eyes as Alex's fingers slipped inside her. "I love you," she moaned softly. "Marry me, Alex."

Director Danvers stood by her sister's bed, holding her hand and stroking her hair back from her face. "Come back to me, Kara," she whispered as she looked over at the machine monitoring the Kryptonian's vitals. "I miss you. Please come back to me."

"Any change?" J'Onn asked as he ambled into the room, unzipping his leather jacket.

"No," Alex replied. "I don't know when she's going to wake up." Her breath hitched and the tall private investigator moved around the bed to pull her into his arms and hug her tightly.

"Kara's a fighter, Alex," he said. "She's not going to let this beat her."

"This is my fault," the director whispered. "I should've known it was a trap. How could I have been so… stupid?! I should never have let Kara go in on her own without backup."

"Alex, you and I both know that Supergirl is the most powerful being on the planet. There's very little we can do to help that she can't do herself." J'Onn chuckled. "I used to feel like sometimes we were just getting in the way."

Alex nodded and folded her arms as she turned and looked back to her sister. "I should have told her how I feel…" She stopped then and shook her head. "I can't lose her, J'Onn. I won't survive it."

The Martian nodded. "None of us will."

"You know… I never thought we'd end up here," Kara chuckled as she tangled her fingers with her girlfriend's. They were sitting under the /darkath/ tree underneath the window of Kara's childhood bedroom. Alex's head was in the Kryptonian's lap and she was running her fingers gently through the director's hair. "It just proved my theory that, wherever you are feels like home."

Alex grinned and Kara leaned down to kiss her. "I love you, Beautiful," the brunette replied. "And it's such an honor to be here with you on Argo. To meet your Mom and Thara."

Kara nodded and closed her eyes as she leaned her head back against the tree trunk. "Argo is so beautiful. I'm glad we decided to move here for a while."

"It's been a week! All of her tests are showing that she's completely healed, yet her brain function is all over the map," Alex exclaimed. "Brainy, is there anything you can do? Can you go inside her mind like you did when she was in the coma after Reign hurt her?"

Agent Dox nodded. "Maybe, let me run another scan." He attached a device to Kara's forehead and then steepled his fingers in front of his chest as he closed his eyes and concentrated. "Hmmm… It appears that Supergirl is… dreaming." He opened his eyes then and sheepishly looked away. "Oh… I seem to have intruded upon a…" He swallowed. "Personal… intimate…experience."

Alex scratched the back of her neck awkwardly. "Like… a sex dream?" she half-whispered.

Brainy cleared his throat. "Yes, she and her partner are engaged in an exploration of homosexual activities."

"She's having sex with a woman?" the director asked incredulously. She crossed her arm, impressed. "Go Kara." She shook her head then. "Please get out of my sister's sex life, Agent Dox."

Brainy snorted softly. "Sister?" Then his face sobered. "Forgive me. I will try again later, when she is not so intimately engaged."

Xx

"Fuck…" Alex moaned. "I don't think I can, Kara. Seriously."

Kara chuckled softly. "Oh, I know you have one more in you, Babe."

The director shook her head. "We've been playing for hours. My brain's tired."

The Kryptonian laughed. "Ok, I'm sorry. We can play again tomorrow. I had no idea you'd be so good at this." She rolled her eyes though. "I'm an idiot. You're an amazing strategist so I should have known. Thara, you up for a rematch tomorrow?"

"Sure," Kara's friend replied. "I should be getting home anyway. My husband and kids will be thinking you took me back to Earth with you."

"Nah, Alex and I are here to stay for a while," Kara replied with a grin.

"We've decided to bond here, on Argo," Alex added. "We can have a marriage ceremony on Earth, whenever we get back."

"Sounds amazing," Thara nodded. "If you wish, I could officiate your bonding ceremony?"

Kara and Alex exchanged a look. "We'd LOVE that," Kara replied, getting up to hug her friend. "We'll talk about when and let you know."

Xx

"She's happy," Brainy said softly as he opened his eyes and looked at Alex.

The director was pacing back and forth waiting for Agent Dox to finish. "Are you telling me she doesn't want to come back?"

The man shook his head. "It's not that simple, Director Danvers. She doesn't know that this isn't her real life and she's happy on Argo."

"Argo? She thinks she's on Argo?"

"And she thinks you're there with her. She… she's about to bond with you."

"Wait, what? Bond? As in marry?"

"Alex, I don't want to betray your sister's privacy but…" Brainy looked down. "Kara, in her dream, is in a romantic, sexual relationship… with you."

The director dropped into the chair next to Kara's bed and leaned close to her sister, taking her hand. "Kara, Sweetheart, is… is that what you really want?" she asked softly of her unconscious sister. "Because, if it is, I wish you'd told me sooner."

Xx

Kara looked around. Something was… wrong… off…

"I'm not supposed to be on Argo," she murmured. "I'm supposed to be on Earth fighting Reign." She frowned then. "What am I talking about? Wait, I need… the HarunEl… I need to bring it back."

"Kara, you ready?" Thara asked as she swept into the room in her ceremonial robes. "Everyone is waiting for you."

"I'm… I'm sorry," the blonde replied, shaking her head. "This… isn't right."

A sudden stabbing pain seared into her head and she pressed her hands against her temples as she doubled over. "Kara?" she heard in her head. "Kara, it's Alex and Brainy and J'onn and Lena. We're all here and we need you to come back. We need you to wake up."

"Kara? What's wrong?" Thara was asking. "Alex is waiting for you at the altar."

"Kara! Wake up and come back to us! Please!" Alex's voice said again in her head.

Thara's hand was on her arm then. "Do you need a doctor, Honey?"

"No," Kara replied holding up a hand. "I finally understand what's going on. Tell Alex I'm sorry."

Xx

Tears were flowing down Alex's cheeks. The monitor had registered a jump in Kara's vital signs and brainwave activity. "It worked. She's waking up," she said, throat constricted with emotion.

Supergirl stirred and moaned softly. "Alex?" she said groggily.

The others watched as the director went to her sister's side and smiled gently down at her. "I'm here, you're ok."

"Alex," Kara smiled and then, to everyone's surprise, she took the director's face between her hands and kissed her, lingering a moment before she tilted her head, and her tongue teased her sister's lips.

But Alex gently eased back. "Hey," she said with a soft smile pressing her forehead against her sister's. "We have a lot to talk about, ok? I'm not the same Alex as the one you were with on Argo so no kissing."

"Fuck," Kara said quietly. "I'm sorry." She pulled the leads and monitors off her skin and got up walking away from everyone.

"Kara, wait!" Alex called after her.

The hero held up her hands as she walked. "Just leave me alone… please."

Xx

"Hey," Kara said tiredly as she leaned against the doorjamb of her loft. "Why didn't you just use your key."

"I was worried about you," Alex replied. "But… I didn't want to intrude if you were… if you didn't want to talk to me."

"You were giving me the opportunity to not answer the door?" Kara asked, eyebrows raised. "None of this is your fault and I don't blame you," she added, pulling her sister into a hug and then backing up to bring them both inside. "But I'm… not ready to come back to the DEO yet."

Alex hugged Kara tighter. "I miss having you there," she whispered. "But I get it."

"I'm sorry," Kara breathed as she greedily accepted Alex's affection. "I just needed some space… but I missed you, Alex… I missed you so much." The shudder of her body as she sucked in a breath made Alex hold her even closer.

"Can I stay?" the director asked.

"Please stay?" Kara asked at the same time and they laughed softly together.

The hero led her sister to the couch, and they sat down together as she grabbed a blanket and pulled it over both their laps. Alex turned to look at her and then a smile upturned her lips. "You know I have to ask."

"Ask what?" Kara asked in confusion.

"In your dream… was I good in bed?"

"Alex!" Kara exclaimed as she blushed a deep red. The director chortled and raised an eyebrow at her. "Yes," the Kryptonian replied after a few moments of embarrassed frowning. "Yeah, you were…" She looked down. "Exceptional." Then her blue eyes lifted, and Alex realized they'd darkened into something stormy.

"In your dream… was I your sister?" the director asked slowly.

"Everything was the same… except we'd admitted to each other that… we were in love with each other, and we'd decided to try a relationship. And it had worked, Alex. We were happy together and we'd moved to Argo for a while. We were getting married." Tears crept slowly down her cheeks. "Everything was so perfect."

The director reached out and gently erased the tears from her sister's cheeks. "Do… do you feel that way now? About me?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.

"I don't know how to stop."

"Maybe… I don't want you to. Kara… I haven't been able to stop thinking about how you kissed me when you woke up."

"You don't have to say that, Alex," the hero sighed, looking down at her hands clasped in her lap. "I just need some time to work through things."

But gentle fingers were lifting her chin then and searching brown eyes met hers solidly. "Listen to me, Kara Zor-El. You are NOT my sister. You're so much more than that. You've always been more than that."

"But…"

"No buts, Kara. I'm offering you my heart in a very not-sisterly way. The choice to take it Is yours."

"Alex…" Kara whispered. She cupped the director's cheek, stroking her thumb across her cheek bone. "Are you sure?"

Alex nodded, closing her eyes as the hero's hand cupped her chin and her thumb slowly stroked across her lips. "Yes." She kissed Kara's thumb. "I'm sure."

And then the hero's lips were on hers, exploring slowly and gently. Alex was trembling but she returned the kiss allowing it to deepen as Kara, once again, offered the warm, silkiness of her tongue. "I'm home," the blonde whispered. "Where I belong."

They eased down onto the couch on their sides, pressed together, lips and hand roaming over each other. "Where we both belong," Alex whispered in reply.

And Kara just kissed her harder.
