Feudal Diaries:

Venom

Inuyasha © Rumiko Takahashi

Summary- The night of the new moon was always tense... but now, Inuyasha's life hangs in the balance. Part 1 of a short story series.

All that could be heard inside the abandoned barn was the creaking of the rotting wood against the wind... and the sound of his labored breaths. His whole body felt like it was on fire and his skin was drenched in his own perspiration. He swallowed thickly, his muscles tensing painfully as he clenched his jaw.

His only comfort... the girl that was sitting by his side, her sweet scent calming him even now.

"It's okay, Inuyasha... you'll be fine..."

"K... Kagome...!"

Inuyasha groaned as he lied against the hay, his Robe of the Fire Rat draped over his prone form like a blanket while his torso was wrapped up in bandages along with his left bicep and his neck. Draped over his forehead was a damp cloth to keep his fever from getting too high. Shippo sat nearby with Myoga on his shoulder, watching him worriedly before he glanced over at Kagome, who stared down with an expression of sadness and anxiety.

Earlier, while traveling, the group had run afoul with a pack of snake demons, the leader of which attempted to attack Kagome in order to steal her shards of the Sacred Jewel, but Inuyasha jumped in the way and had gotten bitten, and in doing so, the demon's venom began to course through his veins. Normally, it wouldn't be a problem since Inuyasha would just usually take some of Kagome's medicine and have Myoga suck out the venom for him, and he'd be good to go in about an hour or two. However... tonight was different.

Tonight was the night of the new moon, and since Inuyasha had turned human, that meant that the venom was making him quicker work of him than he thought. What was worse... the snake demons had slithered off for a brief moment, promising to hunt the group down. Unable to fight back while Inuyasha was out in the open, the group managed to find shelter in an abandoned barn, where Kagome quickly got to work on performing first aid while Miroku, Sango, and Kirara sat outside, standing guard.

Myoga had already sucked out as much of the venom as he could... now all that was left to do was wait.

As Inuyasha groaned in pain from another painful contraction of his muscles, he reached his hand out and grabbed blindly at the air before Kagome caught it in her own, and soon, he sighed as he felt his body beginning to go lax.

"Kagome?" Shippo asked. "Is... is Inuyasha gonna be okay?"

"...He has to be, Shippo," Kagome whispered, trying her hardest not to let it sound like her voice was going to break. "He'll make it."

She then choked down a small sob as she lied down beside Inuyasha, gently gripping his hand.

"...Please, Inuyasha... please live... for us... for me...!"

As her tears spilled, Inuyasha sighed as he nestled his forehead against hers.

"K... Kagome..."

Been a while, so I thought I'd do a little bit of angst. The next part has a little MirSan in it.
