Chapter 41.3 - healing

It has already been more than half an hour before Bryan finally returns to Ana's room, his coffee already finished a long time ago, but he did not want to return to Ana's room because he wanted to give her some more time to collect her thoughts, and he hopes that the time has been more than enough.

He knocks twice before he goes in and just like before, Ana is sitting on the bed with her knees still pulled up to her chest as she continues to look out of the window, but at least it feels like her mood has changed somewhat.

Bryan takes his place on the chair and looks at Ana, she still not looking at him.

"I am still not going to talk about Kai, Bryan, so forget it," Mya says without looking at Bryan, but at least her voice sounds less venomous.

"Then just listen to me, sweetness, please."

Mya scoffs to this but she says nothing, she deep down feeling somewhat curious as to what Bryan has to say about the man that has broken her heart on more than one occasion.

Bryan takes this as a good sign, he hoping to all that is holy that Ana will at least try to listen with an open mind instead of focusing on her own pain.

"I know that Kai has been visiting you every day, hoping that you will be able to give him a chance and get back together with him, but it seems that today you have made it extra clear to him that you are done with him, which he has finally accepted."

Mya turns her head to the side and looks at Bryan with a scowl on her face, she narrowing her eyes at him, "I take it that he came crying to you like a little bitch, right?"

"No, sweetness, he just informed me that you two are done for good and that he has finally accepted that, and he will no longer try and pursue you."

Mya snorts to this before turning her focus back on to the window, she not sure why she is suddenly feeling a pang of pain within her heart after hearing Bryan say that Kai has finally given up on them; she should be happy hearing this, so why does it not bring her joy? She has convinced herself that she was done with Kai, so why does she not want this to be the end?

Bryan sees that Ana is not going to say anything to this, but he can easily pick up on her body language that this news has unsettled her somewhat, and this gives Bryan hope that maybe, just maybe, Ana may forgive Kai, that the two of them may be able to reconcile.

"Aren't you happy to hear this, sweetness?"

Mya does not look at Bryan while still keeping her head faced towards the window, "I am, Bryan, I am happy that the murdering psychopath has finally accepted that we are over and done with for good; it seems that he still has some working brain cells within that head of his."

"He may have accepted it, sweetness, but Kai is not happy about it; in fact, he was beyond broken when I saw him earlier today. The guy is hurting and he is hurting a lot. Do you really want to shut Kai out of your life forever? I thought you two were so in love, I mean, that is why you never came back to me, sweetness, because you fell in love with him, so did that love really disappear completely? Can you honestly look me in the eye and tell me that you absolutely don't feel anything for Kai other than hate, that the love that you had for him is completely gone?"

Mya asks and still does not look at Bryan, "I would think that you would be relieved that Kai is done chasing me because then it will make it easier for you to take his place, for us to be together once more, so why do care about me giving him another chance? Don't you want us to be together, Bryan?" and Mya finally turns to face Bryan, there being an almost sadistic glint within her eyes and Bryan immediately notices it when he looks into her eyes.

Bryan can't understand how Ana suddenly did a personality switch within a blink of an eye, he realising that she and Kai were more compatible than he would ever know which just convinces him even more that Kai and Ana belong together, but yes, if he should be honest with himself, he would not mind getting back together with Ana because this is what his heart has been longing and craving for for so long and were he the old Sevastyan, he would have taken Kai's woman within a heartbeat, but fortunately for him, he is no longer that bastard and he would like to see Kai and Ana try to get back together.

"I would always want you, sweetness, even if you are old and gray, I would always want you, but I care about you and Kai and I know that there is still unfinished business between the two of you."

Tala finally reaches the elevator and fortunately for him, he immediately gets an available elevator which he gets into with a heavy heart, the doors closing behind him while he takes a deep breath to gather some courage to let her know that Kai was in a horrible accident not too long ago and that he could have died in that crash, Alisia and he only arriving at the hospital about ten minutes ago after receiving the call from Valentin and them rushing here to casualties to see with their own eyes what has happened to Kai.

Tala feels how the elevator stars to ascend, he starting to think on how he is going to start this conversation with Mya.

The elevator opens after 'dinging' and Alisia quickly makes her way out of it in search of her husband and she spots him just as he is about to open up the door to Mya's room, and she quickly exclaims his name in a panicked tone of voice and then rushes towards him when Tala stops and turns around with his hand still on the door handle, he holding his hand on the door handle while he waits for his wife to catch up.

"What is it, Alisia?" he asks and Alisia sees just how emotionally drained her husband is right now which is all the more reason for him not to tell Mya about Kai's accident right now because Mya's reaction may just send Tala over the edge, and who knows whether this news will also have a bad effect on Mya or not.

Alisia places her hand on Tala's hand that is still holding the door handle and she gently pulls it away from it and takes his hand into both her hands while looking into his eyes, "You can't tell Mya about Kai, my love, please; who knows what that news will do to her, it may even set her back so please, my love, just don't tell her right now, okay?"

He allows his wife to pull him away from the door and the two make their way back to the elevator so that they can go back to the waiting area to wait about news of Kai's condition, husband and wife walking hand in hand towards the elevator while Tala thinks to himself that he still has to tell Mya but Alisia does have a point, so for now he will keep the news about Kai's accident a secret from Mya for now, but he does hope that this will bring Mya to her senses as soon as she does hear about it.

Bryan suddenly realises that this is the last time that he will be an 'employee' of this hospital because he is no longer needed here. From tomorrow onwards, Dmitri Kuznetsov no longer exists and he will miss his work as a so-called nurse, but now he can focus on his real life once more, whether Ana will be a part of it or not.

Just one look at the hospital's cafeteria can conclude that visiting times are over for the patients within the hospital seeing as the cafeteria is packed with patients in their pyjamas while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee with loved ones, these being the patients that no longer want to be confined to their hospital beds, and who would much rather be in the outside world and with their loved ones without needing to worry about following a time curfew.

The entire cafeteria is filled with laughter and soft murmurs while young waiters walk in between the colourful tables taking orders and checking on their customers and attending to their needs. Today's weather is overcast but by the looks of it in here, the gloomy weather does not seem to bother the people in here.

Mya is currently standing at the counter while waiting for her cappuccino, she not sharing everyone's enthusiasm in here. This is the first day that Kai has not shown up during visiting hours and even though she knows that she had told Kai to leave her alone and that he should just go and die somewhere, she was hoping that he would remain his stubborn self and again show up this morning because as hard as it is to believe, this morning she really misses his presence.

Mya can still clearly see within her mind the hurtful look in Kai's eyes when she had told him to get out of her life and that she never wanted to see him ever again; there was no doubt that she had hurt him with that demand and at that moment she did not care, and a part of her still does not care, but now that she has calmed down and realised that Kai is not coming to see her, she realised that deep down she looked forward to his visits, even if they were spent mostly in silence from her part or her yelling at him and calling him all sorts of names.

Mya sighs to herself and looks around the cafeteria to see what everyone is doing; not far from her she spots an elder man reading a newspaper and she would not have paid much attention to it were it not for the headline on the front page, all blood suddenly draining from her body when she sees the two photos accompanying the headline, one of them being one of Kai and the other of a smashed up car.

"Here you are, Ms," the waiter says as he puts the take-away cup of cappuccino on to the counter which brings Mya immediately out of her shocked trance.

"Err thanks, and also today's newspaper please," Mya says as she hands over the cash to the waiter.

"Which newspaper would you like?"

Mya says nothing and only points to the elder man, the young male waiter immediately leaving to go and get the newspaper and as soon as he gives it to Mya, she dashes out of the cafeteria so that she can find a quiet place and read this dreaded article about Kai, she hoping with all her heart that Kai walked away from that crash with just a few bruises and cuts.

Mya finally finds a quiet corner to sit and she takes a seat after placing her cup on the coffee table beside her and she wastes not a second longer before finally looking at the newspaper, her eyes landing on the photo of the crashed car and just seeing the wreckage causes her heart to clench painfully because no one will be able to walk away alive from such a horrific crash. There is no doubt that the wreckage belongs to his Ford Shelby, but it is a complete write-off; they won't be able to even savage the parts, that's how ruined the car is.

Mya takes a deep breath and tries her best to calm her nerves, "Relax, Kai is a strong man; I am certain that he managed to walk away from this...he just had to."

Now Mya knows why Kai never showed up this morning, and she can't help but to feel horribly guilty because of the last words she had said to Kai.

"You just have to be alive, Kai, please be alive," Mya softly mutters to herself while her hands are trembling as she holds the newspaper, she not sure she wants to read the article but she knows she has to in order to know exactly what had happened to Kai.

With a heavy heart, she finally starts to read the article, she silently praying that it will not say that Kai has died on impact because in all honesty, she does not know what she is going to do if Kai is truly gone.

According to the article a few eye witnesses had said that Kai, who was driving the Ford Shelby at the time, did not slow down for other cars and also not at the red lights and he raced over a red light and that was when a truck hit his car on the side, the truck dragging Kai's car a few metres before another large vehicle struck Kai's car on the opposite side. According to a few witnesses it had seemed as if Kai wanted an accident to happen on purpose as he was driving recklessly without any consideration for the other around him.

The medics arrived on the scene in a matter of minutes and they had to cut Kai from the wreckage and when they pulled him from the car, he was already unconscious but still alive.

To this Mya releases a huge breath which she has been holding the entire time, she at least relieved about the fact that Kai had survived the deadly collision, which in itself alone is a miracle that has to be noted down in the Vatican's history books.

"No confirmation has been made about whether alcohol was involved, but the police did find empty vodka bottles in the wreckage which means that Mr Hiwatari was driving under the influence of alcohol. Mr Hiwatari is most likely going to be charged with wreck less driving and driving under the influence of alcohol should his blood tests confirm any levels of alcohol within his blood."

Mya can't help but to snort to this, "Good luck with trying to charge Kai with any crimes; you guys will end up losing or better yet, killed."

Mya finally finishes reading the article and she feels so much lighter because it seems that Kai is still alive and that he is here, in this very hospital, she unable to hide her smile because soon she will be able to see Kai and to tell him how sorry she is about everything and that she was wrong in wanting him out of her life.

She does not waste a second longer before getting up and with her drink in hand and the newspaper underneath the other arm, she makes her way to the reception so that they can tell her on which floor Kai currently is.

In a matter of minutes is the black haired beauty making her way to the 7th floor where all car crash accident victims are treated and no one has quarrels in allowing her to see Kai, Mya hoping that they know that Kai and she used to be involved in a relationship.

Just as Mya makes her way out of the elevator, she is greeted by both Tala and Ray, both men's eyes widening upon seeing Mya.

"Wha...what are you doing here, Mya?" Tala asks with a surprised tone of voice because she can't be here to see Kai, right?

"I err..." and then Mya points towards the newspaper that is still clutched underneath her arm, Tala and Ray quickly realising that Kai's accident most likely is front page news today, especially seeing as all of the rumours going around are saying that Kai tried to commit suicide in this manner.

Ray smiles softly to Mya and only gives her a hug before stepping back and while keeping his hands on her shoulders, he looks deep into her eyes, "He would appreciate it so much, Mya, when he wakes up, whenever that will be," and there is no mistaking the tinge of sadness within his voice, but before Mya can question him about what is going on, he releases his hold on her and steps back, "I will see you guys later, okay?" and with a final nod of his head to both Tala and Mya, Ray steps back into the elevator and does not look at anyone as the door closes, an almost uncomfortable silence descending on both Tala and Mya.

"I wanted to come and tell you last night, Mya, but Alisia thought it would be better that you don't know about it now seeing as you are still not fully recovered," Tala says sheepishly without looking at Mya because he feels guilty for not telling her about Kai, even if they are not together anymore.

Mya silently gasps to this while thanking Alisia within her mind because if Tala had come and told her last night, he most likely would have walked in on her and Bryan, and that just would have opened up a whole new can of worms.

"Don't worry about it, Tala; if I were in your shoes I most likely would have done the same thing. Just one thing though: how is he doing, Tala, and be honest, please."

Tala sighs and runs his hands through his hair before he walks around Mya and goes and leans against the wall, she turning around to face him and she can't ignore the feeling of dread taking over her entire existence right now.

"He's alive, Mya, and he practically walked away from that horrible accident unscathed, but that was only because of the incredible high level of alcohol in his system. Valentin said that were it not for the alcohol in his body, Kai would have died in that crash, he most likely would have died on the first impact and if not, the second impact definitely would have done the job," and Tala finally looks Mya straight in the eye, there no mistaking the build up of tears within his eyes.

"The high amount of alcohol had numbed his system and his body and that is why he was completely limp with both impacts; were he sober, his body automatically would have tensed and he would have tried to control the situation and then he would have ended up dead in that crash, so yeah, I guess we should thank Kai for his drinking problem because it quite literally saved his life."

Mya still cannot believe that Kai had gone through such a horrid thing last night, and what is worse is that while he was fighting for his life, she was getting hot and heavy with Bryan, her ex-lover and the man that had trained her in order to kill him that is Kai.

"What happened, Tala, why was Kai so wrecked less last night?" and even though Mya does not know the real reason of why Kai did what he did, she has a feeling that it is all her fault; truth be told, she knows that it was her fault seeing as Bryan had come to talk to her about Kai, but she just refused, she being too focused on her own anguish to care about another person.

Tala shakes his head from side to side while he looks down at his feet, his arms now crossed in front of his chest, "I honestly don't know, Mya. There are rumours going around saying that Kai tried to commit suicide and..." Tala again just sighs in a tired manner, "I don't think those rumours are so farfetched," and Tala once again looks directly into Mya's eyes.

Mya suddenly feels a thousand times guiltier than a few seconds before because if Kai really did try to commit suicide, it was because of her, because of how cruel and heartless she was towards him.

"Did he say anything to you, Tala?"

Tala shakes his head from side to side, "Nothing, and that is why it all came as one hell of a shock to us when we received the call about Kai's accident. I didn't see the scene myself but just looking at the wreckage one can see that Kai really did try to put an end to it all and he tried to do it in a non-conventional manner."

Mya is feeling so guilty that she cannot look Tala in the eye anymore and so she turns away from him and also turns her attention towards the floor.

Tala knows that Mya must feel guilty and she must feel like it is her fault and under normal circumstances, it would be her fault especially since she chased Kai away yesterday morning, but after going through everything she has gone through, and what Kai has also put her through by breaking up with her, this is not normal circumstances.

Kai had left her and he gave her a shit reason, and as if that was not enough, she got kidnapped and tortured for two weeks so her mental state will be nowhere near normal, and Tala knows that Kai had tried his best to make things right with her after she woke up from the medically induced coma, but these things don't just happen overnight.

Kai should not have been so persistent with Mya, and maybe then they would have had a chance to make things right in the future; however, the fact that Mya is here and she is clearly both concerned and very worried about Kai's condition shows that she still cares about Kai and who knows, maybe this accident of Kai will bring these two star crossed lovers back to each other. Tala can only hope.

"Do you want to see him, Mya?"

Mya says nothing and only nods her head to this while keeping her back faced towards Tala because she does not want him to see her tears which just started falling without her controlling them or giving consent.

Tala immediately picks up on her changed demeanour and without waiting another second or saying anything else, he pushes himself away from the wall and walks towards Mya and places his hands on her shoulders, she immediately tensing upon this gesture but she quickly relaxes when she realises that Tala means her no harm.

"Kai will be fine, Mya, and before you know it, both of you will be discharged from the hospital and then you can start finding each other all over again, falling in love all over again, and I know that you miss Kai just as much as he misses you, or am I wrong?"

He again just receives a silent shake of the head to indicate no, he is not wrong and Mya silently turns around and faces him, Tala now seeing how silent tears are falling from her eyes, he pulling her into a tight embrace and holds her while Mya also wraps her arms around him, and the two friends continue to console each other over Kai and him trying to commit suicide.

A moment of silence passes between the two before Mya finally pulls away from the embrace and she releases her hold on Tala while wiping away her tears with the back of her hand, she trying to smile at him through the tears which he also returns. The cup of cappuccino is still in her one hand but the newspaper has been dropped to the floor after she embraced Tala.

"Go to him, Mya, because I am sure that when Kai wakes up later on and he sees you there to greet him, he will be over the moon and he will make one hell of a speedy recovery when he learns that you will wait for him, that is...if you want to wait for him and give you guys another chance at love?"

"I would be an idiot if I don't give us another chance, Tala," Mya says as she smiles sheepishly at Tala while trying to keep a new batch of tears at bay.

Tala smiles at her and without saying anything else to her, he nudges her into the direction that leads to the wing that contains Kai and with a last warm smile at Tala, Mya picks up her newspaper and finally walks in through the door, her heart pounding in her chest like something that is possessed.

The nurses at the nurse's station were very friendly and helpful when Mya enquired about Mya and the nurses had no qualms about her visiting Kai, despite visiting time being over, and right now Mya is standing in front of the door that leads to Kai's room, the door slightly ajar and shielding Kai from the outside world.

Mya takes a deep breath to calm her nerves and after releasing it, she closes her eyes for a few seconds before opening up the door completely and finally walking into the room and her eyes immediately land on Kai who is currently lying motionless on the hospital bed with the sound of the heart monitor filling the entire room.

There is only one bed in this room and Mya can't help but to smile to this because that is so typical Kai to always want to be alone, and it seems that everyone knows him well enough to demand a private room for Kai. Mya places her cup and the newspaper on the trolley and picks up the vacant chair that is standing in the corner and places the chair right next to Kai's bed where she finally takes her a seat and is unable to take her eyes off of the unconscious Kai, even though it looks like he is only sleeping.

The heart beat on the monitor is steady which means that even though Kai is unconscious, his body and mind is calm, and Mya still cannot believe that Kai managed to survive that horrible car crash that was suppose to end his life.

"Oh, my phoenix," Mya says softly as she takes his limp right hand into both of her hands and holds the hand tight in between her own two hands, she still not taking her eyes off of Kai and before she knows it, tears start to fall from her eyes because now everything starts to kick in, she now realising what could have been had Kai not survived the car crash.

The gravity of it all is finally settling in and it is not light.

"To think, I could have lost you forever, my phoenix, and the last time that I saw you I was so cruel and heartless towards you, and those were almost my last words to you; I never would have been able to forgive myself for that, my phoenix, so you have to get up and let me make it up to you, please."

Mya starts to take in Kai's appearance and she again sees that Kai looks thinner than usual, this being something that she has noticed for a while now, she thinking that it is probably just all the emotional stress that got to Kai, and her rejection and cold heartedness didn't help the situation at all. She can again see how Kai's skin is still paler and this is again something that she has noticed earlier, but again, she decides that this must be because of all of the stress; even his muscle mass seems less while he is lying under the covers.

"I am so, so sorry for everything I said to you, my phoenix, and I was just bluffing when I told you that I never want to see you ever again because that is not true. I want to see you every day and I promise that I will do everything in my power for the two of us. I want us to work through everything and I want us to be together once more seeing as you are still in love with me and want me in your life. The moment we both are discharged from this hospital and we are back to our old selves, I want us to go on a trip so that we can talk everything out and then finally start our lives together once more, and this time there will be no Boris to want to tear us apart, so please, please, my phoenix, please wake up."

Mya continues to hold Kai's hand with both of her hands until she starts to feel tired and even then does she not release his hand, but rather just takes hold of it with her left hand while resting her head on her right arm, she wanting to only rest for few minutes before continuing so sit beside his bed.

She has decided that she wants to be here when Kai wakes up to show him that she too still cares about him very much; he was there when she woke and now she is just repaying the favour.

A groan is heard from the black haired beauty as she slowly lifts her head from her arm, she again groaning because of her arm that is asleep and her neck that is stiff and it is all her fault because she fell asleep in an uncomfortable position.

Mya releases her hold on Kai's still limp hand and raises her arms above her head and stretches like a cat that has just woken from a six hour sleep, she feeling and hearing how all of her stiff joints and muscles pop from being stretched for a change, she literally breaking out in goose bumps at how good it feels to be in a comfortable position for a change.

Her entire body shudders a last time before she finally slumps down back into the chair, her full attention on Kai once more who, to her disappointment, is still unconscious.

Mya glances up at the clock against the wall and only raises her eyebrows in surprise when she sees that it is just past one, which means that she has been sleeping for longer than hour.

'Wow, I didn't realise I was that tired,' she thinks to herself as she turns her attention back on to Kai, his chest rising and falling in a calm manner as he continues to stay unconscious.

"Why did you do it, Kai? Were you really trying to commit suicide, and if so, why? Were you truly so heartbroken about my rejection that you would actually end your life?" Mya asks softly as she again takes his left hand into both of her hands and scoots closer in her seat so that she can be closer to Kai, she feeling some of his body heat wafting through the air towards her, his natural body scent accompanying this heat and just like that is Mya taken down memory lane to a time where she and Kai were happy and so in love with no sign of any heartache and threats between them.

Mya can't help but to think that there has to be something else that is ailing Kai because there is no way he would try to commit suicide because of her, right? That is just not his style, so there has to be something else wrong in Kai's life that no one knows about, because Kai is too strong to want to end his life because of a woman.

"I wish you would wake up already, my phoenix, because I need to know why, and I want to stand by your side and get through all of this with you by my side."

Mya is interrupted when one of the kitchen staff ladies comes in with a trolley that contains food, "Your lunch, Ms Azarov," she says with a warm smile and an even warmer tone of voice, and Mya can't help but to smile back at this wonderful lady, she looking like someone who is in their early fifties.

"Thanks so much, but I should probably get back to my own floor because they would be wondering where I am."

The elder woman chuckles friendly while placing Mya's plate and cutlery on to the other trolley, "No need to worry, Ms Azarov; the nurses have already informed your nurses that you are here on this floor. It seems that there is some love story going on with the two of you," she says while nudging with her head towards Kai all while smiling, "I apologise if I had said something that I not should have."

Mya is now the one to shake her head from side to side while smiling at the elder woman, "No need to apologise, and yes, me and this man do have some history, both good and bad and that is why I want to stay with him until he wakes up so that we can continue with our 'love story," Mya turning her head towards Kai once more, "We both deserve to be by each other's side after all we have been through."

The elder woman walks towards Mya and places a gentle hand on to her shoulder, "Before you know it, he will be awake and you will be able to look into each other's once more, continuing your journey of love once more," and after giving her shoulder a last squeeze, the elder woman gathers her food trolley and leaves the room, Mya just smiling at her retreating back.

"I can't wait to look into your eyes once more, my phoenix, but for that to happen you have to wake up, please."

Almost 24hours have already passed and Kai still has not woken up, even though he has not worsened, much to everyone's relief. Mya has literally moved into Kai's room, she now receiving her medication here while staying with Kai, and Valentin has given her permission to do so, but she is still not discharged because they still have a few tests to do to see whether she is 100% capable of leaving the hospital.

Ray, Alisia and Tala are happy to see that Mya is by Kai's side because there was a time that they all thought that these two former lovers were done for good, but seeing how dedicated Mya is to fix things with Kai gives them all hope, because Kai would without a doubt welcome Mya back with wide open arms seeing as he still pines after her and he was willing to end his own life because he had lost Mya for good.

It is already afternoon and as usual is Mya found by Kai's bedside while holding on to his still limp hand. Her head is resting on her arms, the black haired beauty not thinking of anything specific at the moment while just taking in the feeling of his hand in hers and how this is where she truly belongs, by Kai's side.

All of a sudden, Mya is brought out of her thoughts when she suddenly feels a twitch in Kai's hand and she at once sits up straight and looks down at Kai with wide eyes, her heart starting to ram within her chest.

"Kai?" Mya calls softly while now holding Kai's hand with both of her hands as she keeps all her focus on his face, hoping to see anything that may indicate that Kai is waking up.

She gives his hand a squeeze and again calls his name softly, but she gets no response, but after a moment, Kai's hand again twitches and this time there is also movement in his face and Mya at once smiles to this as tears start to well up within her eyes.

"Kai, it's me, Mya, can you hear me? If you can, give my hand a gentle squeeze," and to Mya's relief, Kai gives a small squeeze and Mya has to control herself to stop herself from lunging at Kai from sheer happiness.

A soft groan is heard from Kai and Mya can see how he is trying to open his eyes, he managing to open his eyelids halfway before closing them again, and even though she would have wanted to see those beautiful brown eyes of his once more, the fact that Kai is awake is more than enough for her.

"Take your time in waking up, my phoenix, you have been through a lot," she says softly while giving Kai's hands another gentle squeeze and to her surprise, she receives one back and now tears are flowing freely from her eyes.

The longer she looks down at Kai's face, the stronger the urge becomes for her to hug Kai and even though Mya knows that Kai's body may still be weak, she cannot help herself and without thinking more about it, she releases her hold on Kai's hand and just embraces him all while taking care in not hurting him.

"Mmm...mmmmya..." Kai utters softly and Mya at once pulls away from Kai and looks down at him, she smiling through the tears as she gently cups his face with both hands and that is when Kai opens up eyes, slowly, but he manages to open them up completely and long enough to look into Mya's eyes, she now grinning through the tears when she sees the love shining through Kai's eyes, it meaning that Kai still loves her even though she was so nasty with him not too long ago.

"I am here, my phoenix, and I am not going anywhere; I am staying right here by your side because this is where I belong," she says while gently running her right thumb over Kai's left cheek as the two lovers continue to look deep into each other's eyes until Kai's eyes close once more.

Mya does not care because at least Kai is awake and he recognises her and he still loves her.

Mya removes her hands from Kai's face because even though she is happy to see Kai awake, Valentin has to come and check up on Kai and after taking his hand into hers and giving it a last squeeze, she steps back from the bed and retrieves her phone.

"I will be just outside, my phoenix; I just have to call Valentin because he would be glad to see that you are awake and he also needs to come and check up on you, so I will be quick, okay?" she says as she makes her way towards the door.

Mya first heads to the nurse station to inform them that Kai is awake, and Melissa, an American born Russian is the first to get up to go and check up on Kai, Mya finally calling Valentin, the elder doctor sounding very happy when he hears that Kai is awake and he tells Mya that he will only be a few minutes and then he will be there.

Mya walks back into the room and can again only smile when she meets Kai's eyes, he keeping his eyes on her while Melissa checks up on him and takes his vitals.

Mya can see that Kai is very tired, but she can also see that he wants to make sure that she is truly here with him and that she wants to be here with him. She comes to stand on the other side of his bed and again takes his hand into hers, the two lovers continuing to keep eye contact while Melissa does what she needs to do. It doesn't take long for Valentin to finally arrive, both Kai and Mya happy to see him.

"Kai, my boy, how are you feeling?" Valetin asks and he only receives a nod from Kai, to which the elder doctor chuckles at, "You think you may feel good but I first want to make sure, okay?" and again he just receives a gentle nod from Kai.

Valentin first takes out his little light and starts to light into both of Kai's eyes, his pupils reacting 100% to the light which means Kai does not have a concussion, but Valentin would still like to run other tests on Kai, like an MRI even though he knows what he is going to see on the results.

Next is Kai's heartbeat and lungs and after listening with his stethoscope, Valentin seems happy with what he hears and seeing that Kai's blood pressure and temperature is also normal gives him even more peace of mind.

"Well, you two, it seems everything seems fine so far," and to this Kai and Mya look at each other and she again squeezes his hand before turning her attention back on to Valentin, "but I just would like to do an MRI on you Kai, early tomorrow morning, just to make sure everything is 100% fine within the rest of your body. We already took one but another one won't do any damage, if that is okay with you?"

Kai just nods his head to this before turning his attention back on to Mya, she too looking down at him, "I will be by your side the entire way, my phoenix; I am not leaving, I promise," and she gives him an assuring smile to this while again squeezing his hand.

Seeing that these two might want some time alone, Valentin decides to leave these two alone for now, "Well, then, I am going to go and arrange the MRI for tomorrow morning and give you two some alone time. Come one, Melissa, you also have some stuff to do for me, my dear; I want you to inform the kitchen staff to bring Mr Hiwatari some soup and yoghurt for him to eat."

"Yes, doctor," Melissa says and quickly makes her way out of the room, leaving the two lovers alone with Valentin, he now turning somewhat serious, "Kai, I am also going to recommend a psychologist, okay?" and to this he receives a somewhat glare from Kai but Valentin does not care about that, "it will just be for two of three times okay, because it is clear that you have some stuff to work out in that head of yours."

"Valentin," Mya starts and she steps away from Kai's bed and approaches Valentin because she does not want Kai to go through this seeing as it was her fault that Kai wanted to commit suicide, "can I please speak to you out in the hallway?"

"Sure," and Valentin is the first to leave the room, Mya short on his heels and she closes the door of the room the moment she and Valentin are in the hallway, the elder doctor giving her his full attention.

"Is it really necessary for Kai to see a psychologist? I mean, it was my fault that he wanted to commit suicide because I told him that I never wanted to see him again and that may have pushed him over the edge, but I am here now and I want to be by Kai's side and I will prove it to him, so will a psychologist really be needed?"

Valentin sighs to this because he knows all about what this will do to Kai's pride but it is for Kai's own good, and also, it is protocol, "I understand what this will do to Kai's pride, but quite frankly, I don't care about the Hiwatari pride right now, my dear, because at the end of the day, this will only do Kai some good, and also, we have to follow the hospital's protocol. I have known Kai's parents and I have caught him at birth and in all these years, Kai has never EVER tried to take his life, and that to me, my dear, shows that something is wrong with Kai."

Valentin knows exactly what is wrong with Kai and it was not just Kai's breakup that drove Kai to these drastic measures, but Valentin is not going to divulge Kai's health condition to anyone, unless he asks it, but he has not, so for now Valentin will play somewhat dumb in regards to Kai's health, "He is a strong man that never stayed down, but the fact of the matter is that he tried to commit suicide and that in my professional opinion is a call for help. I am glad that you are willing to give Kai another chance, Mya, but Kai needs to see a psychologist, and I am not going to change my mind about it."

Mya crosses her arms in front of her chest but not in a disrespectful manner but more as a way to protect herself, because even though she does not want Kai to go through this because it is all her fault, Valentin is right in wanting Kai to get some help for his mental state.

"I will try and talk to him, Valentin and convince him that this is for his own good, and I will support him all the way, and yes, I do agree with you that Kai trying to commit suicide is not something we ever thought would happen to Kai, so that alone shows that something is wrong with him, so yeah, I will take him to the psychologist myself if I have to. Will it be the same one that you have assigned to me, Dr Yana?"

Valentin nods his head to this while smiling to Mya, he glad that she is agreeing to this, "Yes, she is the best and she truly knows how to connect with people that has gone through all sorts of trauma, I mean, you yourself has experienced the results of her work right?"

Yes, Dr Yana is brilliant and Mya does feel a difference with her anger and fears, but she knows that it is going to be long time since she will ever get over what has happened to her, but she has no doubt that Kai will benefit from seeing Dr Yana.

"Good, I am glad that we are on the same page, my dear," Valentin then heads back into the room with Mya following him, Kai's eyes immediately landing on her and she just smiles back to him while she comes and stands beside him once more and again takes his hand into hers.

"I will assign you to Dr Yana, Kai, she is an excellent psychologist and she is also Mya's doctor, so you will be in good hands."

To this Mya looks down at Kai and continues to smile at him, "She truly is a wonderful person, my phoenix, and I can strongly recommend her; I know that your Hiwatari pride won't allow this but please, just give her a chance. There is no shame in seeing a psychologist, and I can attest that she knows what she is doing because my nightmares are getting better, so for me, please give her chance, okay?"

Kai closes his eyes for a while before opening them once more and first looks at Mya and then at Valentin and nods his head, this indicating that he will go and see this head doctor.

"Excellent, Kai, I will also arrange a session with her for as soon as you are stronger and knowing you it will be in about two days' time," all three occupants in the room smirking to this because Kai is still as tough as they come, despite his ailing health.

"Well then, I am off; I will see you two later, okay?"

"See you later, Valentin," and with a last smile from the elder doctor, he leaves the room and pulls the door behind him but he does not close it, just enough to give the two some privacy.

Mya sits down on the bed and completely faces Kai, he resting his head against the pillow and just looks at her, and now that the fogginess in his mind is getting clearer with each passing second, he is getting a better grip on his emotions and the main one that he is feeling right now is happiness because he cannot believe that Mya is here with him, a part of him thinking that he must be in a coma or something, that he somehow managed to survive that crash and that his mind is now lost in another dimension where it is playing mind games with him.

"Mi Amor," Kai says softly as he tries to sit up straight but Mya gently pushes him back down, and instead takes the remote in hand and lifts the head part of the bed so that they can see each other better right now, she still smiling all lovingly at him with not an ounce of the anger he saw on the last day that he saw her.

"I am here, my phoenix. I have been here for a while now because I wanted to be here when you woke up, the same as you did for me."

Even though he is so happy to see his precious Mya here with him and he wants to spend every waking second with her, Kai can't help but to suddenly feel very sleepy, his eyes starting to feel heavy and he is suddenly having a tough time in keeping his eyes open.

Mya can see how Kai is starting to fight the sleep and she finds it so cute, "You need to rest, my phoenix, so don't fight the sleep. You know as well as I do that that is one fight no one can win, so sleep, and I promise that when you wake up I will still be here by your side."

Mya again lowers the bed and just before Kai is completely consumed by sleep, she leans closer and places a chaste kiss on his mouth that he returns, she caressing his cheek and while they look into each other's eyes, Mya sees how Kai finally loses the battle and closes his eyes, sleep claiming her lover once more.

She gives him another kiss on his forehead before pulling away, her cell phone once more in her hand because she has a few calls to make, to Tala and the others to tell them the good news about Kai, and she also wants to call Bryan to thank him and to also apologise, but truth be told, she should rather do that in person and not over a phone, because face to face it would mean much more, whereas over the phone it would just be impersonal.

Mya glances at Kai a last time right before she leaves the room, she again smiling to herself because of how happy she feels to be with Kai and to know that he is finally awake, and she knows that from here on out things will only get better between the two of them.

It is already two days since Kai has woken up and even though he is still somewhat weak, he is back to his usual self and he also has had his first session with Dr Yana, and yes, Kai would not deny that she is an excellent doctor, but no one will be able to help him; Kai knows what drove him to do what he did and why he did it, and yes, Mya may have played a big part in it, but he is going to die anyway and the Hiwatari pride demands that he die on his own terms and he will die on his own terms, not on the terms that the universe has decided for him.

Right now it is already past eight in the evening, and Ray, Tala and Alisia have already left after visiting both Mya and him, Mya now officially his roommate but he does not mind; the nursing staff has even been nice enough to bring in an extra bed for Mya, and yes, she has slept in it but not alone; the two of them refuse to sleep in separate beds and they only make turns in whose bed they are going to sleep in and right now, the two of them are in Kai's bed, his left arm wrapped tightly around her while her left arm is draped over his chest area, just like the good old days.

They have talked up until now, but neither of them have talked about the thing that needs to be talked about: about them and why Kai wanted to commit suicide just because Mya was through with him for good.

The lights in the room are off and it is only the bedside lamp that is switched on because both lovers can feel that they are somewhat tired seeing as the day has been quite hectic for both of them.

Mya feels a twinge of pain in her heart hearing Kai apologise, she now realising that it is time for Kai to know the truth; yes, she had accused Kai and had blamed him for what Boris had done to her when in truth it was no one's fault, and now is the time to come clean to Kai about it.

"My phoenix," Mya begins while keeping her head rested on Kai's chest, her fingers now starting to draw small circles on his skin as she continues to speak, "It was not your fault; the fact that you broke up with me had nothing to do with it, and yes, I know that I had blamed you for it all, but the truth is that I was still in shock for what had happened to me and I was also hurting for what you did to me, and so I decided that I want to make you feel horrible for what you did to me."

Kai laughs softly to this while pulling Mya even closer to him, "Now that sounds like my Mya," he says and kisses the top of her head once more before allowing her to continue.

Mya smiles to this kind gesture of Kai and continues with her tale, "When I was still in a good enough condition, Boris had told me that it was nothing personal against me, just that it was an act of revenge that he has been plotting for a long time now, and that I was never truly a factor in his plan for revenge; it just happened that he had seen us together in the newspaper that he somewhat altered his plan of revenge against you. Apparently this entire revenge thing had all started a couple of years back, when you killed one of his employees, someone called Phantom or something," and to this Kai only snorts at but he says nothing else and Mya takes it that she should continue her tale, "apparently he had hired this Phantom to assassinate you, but it all backfired on him and you ended up destroying everything that he owned, leaving him to die. He somehow survived after an elder couple nursed him back to health in the exact same area where that abbey of his was and yeah, ever since he has been planning your revenge."

Mya pulls away from Kai's hold and sits up straight and looks down at him, the sadness and regret in her eyes about not being honest with Kai, making him believe that it was all of his fault.

Kai runs his hand up and down her arm in order to calm down his lover because he can see the feeling of guilt on her face, "That sounds about right. Boris did try to kill me by hiring Phantom, an assassin that we all knew about because she never failed in a mission, but she under estimated me, both she and Boris, and so, after I killed Phantom, I destroyed everything Boris ever owned, I burned his home to the ground as well as his other properties to show him no one messes with me. Anyway, back at the abbey when we were fighting, I asked Boris why he always hated me so much because for as long as I can remember, Boris always had it in for me, and I was surprised when he told me that my father and his daughter were in love, but apparently my grandfather did not approve and had put an end to the relationship, which caused Boris's daughter to commit suicide, and since then he has been hating the Hiwatari family, and that is why he had my parents killed and I also would have been killed had fate not intervened."

Mya can't help but to open her mouth in surprise to this because that was the last thing she had ever expected; she never would have thought that it was this complicated with Kai and Boris, but thank God it is all over and that Kai has finally put an end to this long fued.

"Boris will never ever hurt us again, Mi Amor, and I made sure of that; right now his decapitated head is floating in a jar of alcohol back at Feniks manor so he will never hurt anyone ever again, most importantly you, and yes, I understand why you had blamed me because if I did not treat you so horribly that night, he never would have gotten his hands on you, so I am still to blame."

"No, my phoenix, despite that night, it still was not your fault; Boris had said that he had waited for the right moment so it still would have happened, whether we were still together or not, he still would have gotten his hands on me."

Kai pulls away from Mya and looks at the wall across him for a short moment before turning back to face Mya, she still keeping his eyes on her, "I had thought that breaking up with you would have protected you, Mya, but I guess I was wrong, I thought that with you out of my life, that the threats would stop."

Mya frowns to this because despite the two of them being all loving with each other, they never talked about why Kai had exactly broke up with her; yes, he had said that it was to protect her, but he never went into detail about it and now it sounds like Kai is hiding something from her.

"What are you talking about, Kai, what threats?"

Kai again turns away from Mya's face and looks down at his hand that is still gently stroking the skin of her arm, "Right before we went to Colombia, I got a call that threatened you; at that time I had no idea who it was because the voice of this person was masked, and that unfortunately was not the first time your life were threatened."

"Is that why I suddenly got a hoard of bodyguards?"

Kai nods to this, "I didn't say anything because I didn't want you to worry, Mi Amor, but later on I realised that I will have to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to keep you safe," and again Kai knows that he is lying about why he broke up with her but he wants to show Mya that despite whatever reason he had for breaking up with her, it was done with the best intentions in mind, "Your life was being threatened and I did nothing to stop it," Kai lowering his head in shame and he is unable to hide his remorse.

Mya places her other hand on Kai's hand and their eyes immediately meet once more, "You did the best you could, my phoenix, so stop blaming yourself. In this world threats and enemies threatening loved ones are the norm, and even if you are a powerful man, if this person did not want you to find out who they are, they would have made sure, and yes, they did and that is why you never knew that it was Boris, but he is dead and we are together and that is all that matters right now, okay?"

Kai smiles sadly at Mya because he can't believe that he is able to have her here with him once more, that he is able to hold her in his arms once more, "Have I ever told you what a remarkable woman you are, Mya Azarov?"

Mya chuckles to this, "Yes, but I never get tired of hearing it," she jokes and without thinking about it, she leans down and kisses Kai's lips, but it does not last long and she pulls away, the two of them again just looking at each other. This was the first kiss they have shared after Kai's accident and it was not awkward, both of them actually wanting to kiss again, and so, Kai takes the lead by placing his index finger under her chin and directs Mya's face closer to his where their lips again meet and this time is not a chaste kiss.

"Let me help you lie down," Mya says softly and she softly places both her hands on his shoulders and then slowly guides him down towards the bed so that he can lie down on his back, and she can feel that Kai is reluctant in letting go of her but he needs to rest. He is still buried within her and she knows that as soon as he pulls out, it is going to be quite a mess, but fortunately they have enough tissues next to their bed.

Kai finally feels his back greet the pillows and he is actually grateful that Mya had helped him lie down because he truly is exhausted and he can suddenly feel how sleep is creeping up on him.

'I am just going to close my eyes for a few seconds,' Kai thinks to himself as he closes his eyes, his hands now resting on Mya's naked thighs where she is still straddling his lap with him still buried within her.

Mya gathers the tissues in hand and then lifts her hips, she feeling how Kai's limp member leaves her and she suddenly misses the feel of having him inside of her, but she knows that there is still plenty where that came from. She quickly cleans up the mess and that is when she realises that Kai has fallen asleep and Mya can't help but to smile to this.

'Poor guy, it must have been too much excitement for him,' Mya thinks to herself in a loving manner.

While trying to be as quiet as she can be, she gets off of Kai and quickly gets dressed and then covers Kai with the blankets so that he does not have to sleep naked and after giving Kai a final good night kiss on top of his head, Mya moves over to her bed and gets in, she smiling a million dollar while thinking back to what has just occurred between her and Kai, she still feeling him move within her and now she knows that she will get a good night's rest.

She makes herself comfortable and after looking over at Kai once last time, she closes her eyes while still smiling to herself, sleep also quickly claiming her, she and Kai still not realising that they were seen by Melissa, but even if they knew, nothing will spoil this good mood of theirs anytime soon, because they have found each other once again, and this time the bond between them is even stronger than before, and this is a bond that will last even after death.

Who is happy about Kai and Mya reconciling? These two sure have a roller coaster of a relationship.

I know it is a very short AN, but I am also busy now, I am moving back to my home town in two weeks, so yay! It finally happened!
