"Halfway there…"

In the depths of the Jungle Area, Shun muttered so while sitting cross-legged on the ground, his back resting on the trunk of an oversized tree. Unlike the previous round, he didn't feel the need to search for an opponent. With his location accurately pinpointed in the map, he was certain the opponent he sought for would come to him. If he didn't…then that would mean he was not worth his time or his sister's.

The sounds of twigs being crushed under someone's foot echoed in the distance, with Shun standing up in response. After a few seconds, Yuto emerged from the foliage and came to a stop a couple of meters before Shun.

[Looks like we have another encounter!] Nico exclaimed. [From the Xyz Dimension, Kurosaki Shun and Yuto will be our next fighters!]

"So, you're here, Yuto." Shun said. "I'll at least praise you for not running away from this fight."

"There's no way I would run away." Yuto said. "As expected though…you're still furious about the matter with Ruri, right?"

"Furious?" Shun raised an eyebrow. "Maybe I was at first, but not so much now. I'd say the most prevalent feeling is disappointment. After everything we've been through and the time we've spent together, I thought I at least deserved the truth from you two. Guess I was mistaken."

"Shun…" Yuto grimaced, a pained expression appearing on his face. "Ruri and I wanted to come forward from the start, but we weren't sure how you would react. We need some time to ascertain how deep our feelings for each other ran before we made our relationship public. It's just…we weren't sure you would give us that time."

"Is that so?" Shun said. "You think I would have meddled with your private affairs?"

"Judging from what happened in the past…it was very likely." Yuto said. "You were always hounding anyone who got too close to Ruri, chasing them away. Would you really have made an exception for me?"

"Perhaps not." Shun admitted. "However, we'll never find out because you two chose to act all sneaky instead of confronting me head-on."

"I was also afraid of what would happen to our friendship if my relationship with Ruri didn't work out." Yuto said. "That's why we wanted to be as sure as possible about each other. We would have spoken to you, but Academia's invasion happened before we had the chance. I truly wish…I could have handled things better back then."

"Well, even if we agonize over the past, it won't change." Shun said. "Only the future matters. Am I right in assuming that you're still serious about Ruri?"

"Yes." Yuto nodded. "I love her more than anything in this world."

"In that case, show me just how serious you are about her." Shun said as he activated his Duel Disk. "I'll ascertain with my own eyes whether you're suitable for Ruri."

"If it has to be this way, then so be it." Yuto said as he followed suit, activating his Duel Disk. "Shun, I'll definitely have you acknowledge mine and Ruri's relationship."

[Duel!]

Both Duelists shouted together as one.

Yuto – LP: 4000

Shun – LP: 4000

"I'll take the first turn!" Yuto announced. "I place five cards face-down and end my turn!"

"Your usual start, eh?" Shun remarked. "However, such a formation is no sturdier than a sand castle before my Monsters. My turn! Draw! I summon Raid Raptors – King's Lanius (ATK: 1300/DEF: 1000/LV: 4)!"

King's Lanius materialized on Shun's field.

"I activate King's Lanius's effect, which allows me to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower "Raid Raptors" Monster from my hand." Shun continued. "Come forth, Raid Raptors – Napalm Dragonius (ATK: 1000/DEF: 1000/LV: 4)!"

Napalm Dragonius appeared on Shun's field next to King's Lanius.

"I activate Napalm Dragonius's effect." Shun stated. "Once per turn, I can deal 600 points of damage to my opponent. Fire Bomb!"

Napalm Dragonius opened its mouth wide, unleashing a wave of fire that enveloped Yuto and caused him to wince.

Yuto – LP: 4000→3400

"This was just the beginning." Shun declared. "Next, I Overlay my two Level 4 Monsters!"

As his two Monsters turned into streams of energy that were absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Shun chanted.

"Passionate falcon! Make the pain of the fallen your strength and slash through everything with the blazing sword of rebellion! Xyz Summon! Appear now, Rank 4! Raid Raptors – Blade Burner Falcon (ATK: 1000/DEF: 1000/R: 4/OU: 2)!"

The mechanical falcon clad in blue-colored armor with a large sword underneath its body materialized on Shun's field.

"I activate the Spell Card Rank-Up-Magic Uprising Chaos Force." Shun stated. "Through its effect, I will pay half my Life Points in order to target a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster on my field and use it as material to Special Summon a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster from my Deck with twice its Rank. I will use the Rank 4 Blade Burner Falcon to reconstruct the Overlay Network!"

As Blade Burner Falcon turned into a stream of energy that was absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Shun chanted for the second time in a row.

"Dauntless falcon! Ignite the flames of wrath and become an earth-scorching flash of light! Rank-Up Xyz Change! Take flight, Rank 8! Raid Raptors – Satellite Cannon Falcon (ATK: 3000/DEF: 2000/R: 8/OU: 3)!"

The mechanical falcon with oversized wings, whose body was covered by white armor, appeared on Shun's field. At the same time, a crimson aura enveloped him, causing him to grimace.

Shun – LP: 4000→2000

"Uprising Chaos Force has one more effect." Shun declared. "If I successfully Xyz Summoned a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster through its effect while I control no other Monsters, I can destroy all Spell and Trap Cards on my opponent's field! Say goodbye to your defenses, Yuto!"

Several pillars of fire erupted from the ground, enveloping Yuto's cards and vaporizing them.

"Damn it…" Yuto frowned. "This isn't good."

[With a merciless move, Kurosaki has obliterated Yuto's field and is poised to inflict massive damage!] Melissa announced. [He's really going full blast from the start!]

"I'm not finished yet." Shun let out a sinister smirk. "I activate the Spell Card Rank-Down-Magic Solidarity Force. Through its effect, I can target a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster on my field with two or more Overlay Units attached to it in order to Special Summon a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster from my Extra Deck which is two Ranks lower than it and attach two Overlay Units from the targeted Monster to the summoned Monster. Join our hunt, Rank 6! Raid Raptors – Revolution Falcon (ATK: 2000/DEF: 3000/R: 6/OU: 2)!"

Revolution Falcon materialized on Shun's field, letting out a furious screech.

"Oi, oi, that's really bad!" Allen exclaimed. "If Shun's attacks go through, Yuto is finished!"

"Battle!" Shun roared. "Satellite Cannon Falcon, attack Yuto directly! Eternal Avenge!"

"Not so fast!" Yuto exclaimed. "I activate the effect of the destroyed Phantom Knights Howl! During the Battle Phase, I can banish this card from my Graveyard to end the Battle Phase and draw a card from my Deck for every Spell or Trap card that was destroyed during this turn, and then send an equal number of cards from the top of my Deck to the Graveyard! Five cards were destroyed, meaning I can draw five cards!"

[Oh, Yuto successfully escapes from a big pinch and refills his hand at the same time!] Nico announced. [As expected from one of the Xyz Dimension's best Duelists! He won't fall down so easily!]

"If you had lost to such a simple strategy, it would be incredibly disappointing." Shun said. "However, this counter of yours has benefited me as well. I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card Supply Pilfering. Thanks to its effect, if my opponent drew cards from their Deck outside of the Draw Phase, I can draw an equal number of cards from my Deck plus one, which means I can draw six cards. Then, I place two cards face-down and end my turn."

"It's my turn!" Yuto announced. "Draw! I activate the Spell Card Pendulum Equalizer, whose effect allows both players to add two Pendulum Monsters from their Decks to their hands. Then, I will use the Scale 2 Phantom Knights Necro Magister (Dark/Warrior/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 2300/DEF: 1100/LV: 6/SC: 2) and the Scale 7 Phantom Knights Mausoleum Stronghold (Dark/Warrior/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 0/DEF: 1350/LV: 3/SC: 7) I added to my hand in order to Set the Pendulum Scale!"

Two columns of light appeared on Yuto's sides, with a black armored warrior wearing a cape made out of blue flames that held a serrated blade and a Monster resembling a cross between a fortress and a tomb rising to their top.

"Necro Magister's Pendulum Effect allows me to Pendulum Summon a number of "Phantom Knights" Monsters from my Graveyard equal to the number of Monsters my opponent controls as long as my opponent controls more Monsters than I do." Yuto continued. "With my current Scale, I can simultaneously summon Monsters with Levels 3 through 6. Wandering souls of fallen braves! Be guided by the trail of light drawn by the Pendulum and revive here on this battlefield! Phantom Pendulum! Be revived, Phantom Knights Fragile Armor (ATK: 0/DEF: 2000/LV: 4) and Phantom Knights Dented Pauldrons (ATK: 300/DEF: 1300/LV: 4)!"

A dark portal opened on the ground before Yuto, with two beams of energy erupting from it and materializing into Monsters upon landing on Yuto's field.

"I Overlay my two Level 4 Monsters!" As his two Monsters turned into streams of energy that were absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Yuto chanted. "Relentless warrior wandering through the endless battlefield! Embody the fury of rebellion and strike down the unjust! Xyz Summon! Come forth, Rank 4! Phantom Knights Frayed Whip (ATK: 2400/DEF: 1500/R: 4/OU: 2)!"

Frayed Whip materialized on Yuto's field, swinging its whip around and striking the falling leaves from the nearby trees.

"Next, I activate the Spell Card Rank-Up-Magic Exaltation Force." Yuto declared. "Through its effect, I can target a "Phantom Knights" Xyz Monster on my field and Special Summon a "Phantom Knights" Xyz Monster from my Extra Deck that is two Ranks higher than it by using it as material! I will use Frayed Whip to reconstruct the Overlay Network!"

As Frayed Whip turned into a stream of energy that was absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Yuto chanted for the second time in a row.

"Rebellious spirit of war! Hold your unwavering nobility high in the face of adversity and advance upon the path leading to victory! Double Rank-Up Xyz Change! Awaken, Rank 6! Phantom Knights Chipped Lance (ATK: 2800/DEF: 2600/R: 6/OU: 3)!"

Chipped Lance materialized on Yuto's field, brandishing its weapon in a menacing manner.

"I detach an Overlay Unit to activate Chipped Lance's effect!" Yuto declared. "Through it, I—"

"I activate the Trap Card Raid Raptors – Phantom Claw!" Shun cut off Yuto's words. "Thanks to its effect, I will detach an Overlay Unit from Revolution Falcon to negate the activation of Chipped Lance's effect and destroy it! Then, I will have Satellite Cannon Falcon gain attack equal to the destroyed Chipped Lance's attack!"

Following Shun's words, a spectral claw shot out of Revolution Falcon's lower half, piercing through Chipped Lance's chest and destroying it. Then, it changed direction and enveloped Satellite Cannon Falcon's body, causing a pale aura to erupt around it.

(Satellite Cannon Falcon ATK: 3000→5800)

"Never thought I'd have to face one of the cards we included in our Decks for tag-team matches…" Yuto let out a lopsided smile. "However, you won't stop me with just this much, Shun. Mausoleum Stronghold's Pendulum Effect activates. Once during either player's turn, when a "Phantom Knights" Xyz Monster is destroyed, I can Special Summon it and use it as material to Xyz Summon a "Phantom Knights" Xyz Monster that's one Rank higher or lower than it from my Extra Deck. However, if my opponent controls two or more Xyz Monsters, I can Xyz Summon a Monster that's two Ranks higher or lower. I will use Chipped Lance to reconstruct the Overlay Network!"

As Chipped Lance emerged from a fissure that opened on the field and turned into a stream of energy that was absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Yuto chanted for the third time in a row.

"The envoy of the Underworld awakens from its long slumber! Become the trailblazer of rebellion and bring forth doom to the tyrannous darkness! Double Rank-Up Xyz Change! Descend now, Rank 8! Phantom Knights Abyss Claymore (ATK: 3000/DEF: 2500/R: 8/OU: 1)!"

Abyss Claymore emerged on Yuto's field, striking the ground with its blade and opening a deep gash.

"Battle!" Yuto exclaimed. "Abyss Claymore, attack Satellite Cannon Falcon! At this moment, I detach an Overlay Unit to activate Abyss Claymore's effect! When it battles an opponent's Monster with higher attack than it, I can switch those Monsters' attacks until the battle's end (Satellite Cannon Falcon ATK: 5800→3000, Abyss Claymore ATK: 3000→5800)! Do it, Abyss Claymore! Chaos Swordplay!"

Abyss Claymore dashed forward, evading Satellite Cannon Falcon's beam barrage with swift movements. Jumping high, it buried its blade deep into Satellite Cannon Falcon's torso, with blue flames spewing out of every nook and cranny of its mechanical body before it was vaporized in a massive explosion that vaporized the nearby lake.

"I activate the Trap Card Raid Raptors – Medal." Shun declared. "Through its effect, the damage I receive from a battle involving a "Raid Raptors" Monster I control is reduced to 0 and I gain Life Points equal to half the damage I would have taken."

Following his words, Shun was surrounded by a violet-colored aura.

Shun – LP: 2000→3400

"As if it would be that simple." Yuto remarked with a smile. "However, we're not done yet. Necro Magister's second Pendulum Effect activates! Once per turn, if a "Phantom Knights" Xyz Monster destroyed an opponent's Monster while they control at least one more Monster, I can destroy another Monster on my opponent's field. As such, Revolution Falcon will be destroyed!"

Necro Magister swung its blade following Yuto's words, unleashing a wave of dark energy that bisected Revolution Falcon and destroyed it.

"That's enough for now." Yuto said. "I place a card face-down and end my turn."

[Kurosaki Shun made a bold opening play, but now Yuto responds with equal fervor by demolishing his formation!] Nico exclaimed. [Looks like we're in for another heated match, everyone!]

"My turn!" Shun announced. "Draw! Since you were so kind to give me Pendulum Cards for free, I'll use them to the fullest. Using the Scale 1 Raid Raptors – Cluster Lanius (ATK: 1400/DEF: 900/LV: 3/SC: 1) and the Scale 7 Raid Raptors – Scout Lanius (ATK: 0/DEF: 600/LV: 2/SC: 7), I Set the Pendulum Scale!"

Two columns of light appeared on Shun's field, with his two Monsters rising to their top.

"Now I can simultaneously summon Monsters with Levels 2 through 6." Shun declared. "Pendulum Summon! Flock to me, Raid Raptors – Mimicry Lanius (ATK: 1100/DEF: 1900/LV: 4), Raid Raptors – Sharp Lanius (ATK: 1700/DEF: 1400/LV: 4) and Raid Raptors – Fuzzy Lanius (ATK: 500/DEF: 1500/LV: 4)!"

Three beams of light erupted from the Pendulum portal, solidifying into the forms of Monsters upon landing on Shun's field.

"I activate Mimicry Lanius's effect, increasing the Level of all Monsters on my field by 1 (Mimicry Lanius, Sharp Lanius, Fuzzy Lanius LV: 4→5)." Shun stated. "Then, I Overlay my three Level 5 Monsters!"

As his Monsters turned into streams of energy that were absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Shun chanted.

"Ferocious falcon! Break through this fierce battle and spread your wings! Destroy our gathering foes! Xyz Summon! Appear, Rank 5! Raid Raptors – Blaze Falcon (ATK: 1000/DEF: 2000/R: 5/OU: 3)!"

The mechanical falcon clad in red armor materialized on Shun's field.

"Cluster Lanius's Pendulum Effect activates, increasing my Monster's attack by an amount equal to the number of Overlay Units attached to it multiplied by 300 (Blaze Falcon ATK: 1000→1900)." Shun continued. "Moreover, Scout Lanius's Pendulum Effect also activates, allowing me to draw a card from my Deck since I Xyz Summoned a "Raid Raptors" Monster. Then, I activate the Spell Card Raid Raptors – Snipe, whose effect allows me to detach an Overlay Unit from a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster I control in order to deal 500 points of damage to my opponent and draw a card from my Deck!"

Following Shun's words, one of the Overlay Units orbiting Blaze Falcon shot forward, striking Yuto and sending him skidding backwards.

Yuto – LP: 3400→2900

"I activate the effect of the detached Mimicry Lanius, banishing it from my Graveyard to add a "Raid Raptors" card from my Deck to my hand." Shun said. "I choose the Equip Spell Card Raid Raptors – Iron Heart and equip it to Blaze Falcon, increasing its attack by 500 (Blaze Falcon ATK: 1900→2400). Now, let's battle! Blaze Falcon, attack Yuto directly! Raptor's Break of Thunderclap!"

"I activate the effect of Chipped Lance in my Graveyard!" Yuto exclaimed. "By banishing it, I can reduce an instance of damage to 0 and draw a card from my Deck!"

"In that case, I activate Blaze Falcon's effect!" Shun shouted. "By detaching an Overlay Unit, I can destroy all Special Summoned Monsters on my opponent's field and deal 500 points of damage to them for each destroyed Monster! Full Salvo Burst!"

Several bit-shaped weapons detached themselves from Blaze Falcon's body and unleashed a barrage of laser bolts that pierced through Abyss Claymore's body, destroying it, and went straight for Yuto, causing him to let out a cry of pain.

Yuto – LP: 2900→2400

"Since Abyss Claymore was destroyed, I take no further damage for the rest of this turn." Yuto remarked. "In addition, Mausoleum Stronghold's Pendulum Effect activates. Through it, I will Special Summon Abyss Claymore and use it as material to Xyz Summon a "Phantom Knights" Xyz Monster that's one Rank lower than it!"

As Abyss Claymore emerged from a rift in space and turned into a stream of energy that was absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Yuto chanted.

"Indomitable, exalted soul! Pierce though the veil of the netherworld with the cursed blade of rebellion and ascend! Rank-Down Xyz Change! Arise now, Rank 7! Phantom Knights Forsaken Glaive (Dark/Warrior/Xyz/Effect/ATK: 2700/DEF: 1800/R: 7/OU: 1)!"

A warrior clad in dark red armor with blue flames emerging from its gaps, which held a weathered glaive surrounded by an ominous aura, materialized on Yuto's field.

"Those Pendulum cards are a real bother…" Shun muttered. "I place a card face-down and end my turn."

"It's my turn!" Yuto announced. "Draw! First, I will perform a normal Pendulum Summon! Come to my side, Phantom Knights Ragged Glove (ATK: 1000/DEF: 500/LV: 3) and Phantom Knights Tear Scale (ATK: 600/DEF: 1600/LV: 3)!"

Two beams of light emerged from the Pendulum portal, solidifying into the forms of Yuto's Monsters upon landing on the field.

"I Overlay my two Level 3 Monsters!" As his two Monsters turned into streams of energy that were absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Yuto chanted. "Souls of knights who fell on the battlefield! Revive here and now, and become the light that breaks the darkness! Xyz Summon! Appear, Rank 3! Phantom Knights Break Sword (ATK: 2000/DEF: 1000/R: 3/OU: 2)!"

Break Sword materialized on Yuto's field next to Forsaken Glaive.

"Thanks to Ragged Glove's effect, Break Sword gains 1000 attack (Break Sword ATK: 2000→3000)." Yuto stated. "Now, let's battle! Forsaken Glaive, destroy Blaze Falcon! Phantom Cyclone!"

Forsaken Glaive charged with its blade aimed at Blaze Falcon. Shun's Monster attempted to dodge, only for Yuto's Monster to jump and start spinning, tearing through Blaze Falcon's body and destroying it. The ensuing shockwave caused Shun to wince and tore several gashes on the ground.

Shun – LP: 3400→3100

"The effect of the destroyed Iron Heart activates!" Shun exclaimed. "When it's sent to the Graveyard, I can Special Summon two "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monsters from my Graveyard and attach one of them as Xyz Material to the other! I will bring back Blaze Falcon and Revolution Falcon, attaching the former as material to the latter!"

A rift in space appeared above Shun, with his two Monsters emerging from it. Immediately afterwards, Blaze Falcon transformed into an Overlay Unit that started orbiting Revolution Falcon.

"That was a bad move, Shun." Yuto smirked. "Go, Break Sword! Destroy Revolution Falcon!"

"What!?" Shun cried out in shock. "You're attacking even though you're aware of Revolution Falcon's effect!?"

"Yes, because as long as Forsaken Glaive is on my field, all the effects of non-"Phantom Knights" and "Xyz Dragon" Monsters are negated! Therefore, Revolution Falcon's effect won't activate!"

Following Yuto's words, Break Sword swung its blade at Revolution Falcon, cleanly bisecting it with a single stroke and sending Shun skidding backwards due to the ensuing shockwave.

Shun – LP: 3100→2100

"Damn it…" Shun cursed. "However, since a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster on my field was destroyed, I can activate the Quick-Play Spell Card Rank-Up-Magic Raptor's Force! Through its effect, I will Special Summon the destroyed Revolution Falcon and use it as material to Xyz Summon a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster that's one Rank higher than it!"

As Revolution Falcon emerged from a portal and transformed into a stream of energy that was absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Shun chanted.

"Indomitable falcon! Supported by the resolve of your comrades, become the trailblazer that will lead the oppressed to victory! Rank-Up Xyz Change! Charge forward, Rank 7! Raid Raptors – Arsenal Falcon (ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/R: 7/OU: 1)!"

Arsenal Falcon appeared on Shun's field, letting out a resonant screech.

"I place a card face-down and end my turn." Yuto said. "Now, what will you do next, Shun?"

"That was a good move." Byron commented. "Shun's Monsters depend on their effects to gain the upper hand against their opponent. If they are sealed, their combat potential drops sharply."

"However, I don't believe that Shun will be deterred by that much." Kaito remarked. "Such tactics are only a minor speed bump for him, and Yuto should be well aware of that."

"My turn!" Shun announced. "I activate the Spell Card Rank-Up-Magic Skip Force! Thanks to its effect, I can use Arsenal Falcon as material to Xyz Summon a "Raid Raptors" Monster that's two Ranks higher than it!"

As Arsenal Falcon turned into a stream of energy that was absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Shun chanted.

"Rampaging falcon! Saturate yourself with the flames of revenge and lay waste to the foes before us with your unyielding fury! Xyz Summon! Take flight, Rank 9! Raid Raptors – Assault Blaster Falcon (ATK: 3200/DEF: 2000/R: 9/OU: 2)!"

A pillar of fire erupted from the ground, with Shun's Monster emerging from it.

"The Pendulum Effects of my two Pendulum Monsters activate, allowing me to increase Assault Blaster Falcon's attack (Assault Blaster Falcon ATK: 3200→3800) and draw a card from my card." Shun stated. "Next, I activate the Spell Card Rank-Up-Magic Mirage Force, whose effect allows me to target a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster on my field and special summon a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster which is one Rank higher than it by using this card as an Xyz Material. I will target the Rank 9 Assault Blaster Falcon to Xyz Summon!"

As Mirage Force transformed into a ghostly copy of Assault Blaster Falcon and turned into a stream of energy that was absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Shun chanted for the second time in a row.

"Falcon of ultimate creation! Carry on the wishes of your fallen comrades and fly off to the sky of victory! Rank-Up Xyz Change! Appear, Rank 10! Raid Raptors – Ultimate Falcon (ATK: 3500/DEF: 2000/R: 10/OU: 1)!"

Ultimate Falcon materialized next to Assault Blaster Falcon.

"Cluster Lanius's Pendulum Effect increases Ultimate Falcon's attack (Ultimate Falcon ATK: 3500→3800)." Shun declared. By detaching an Overlay Unit, I can negate the effects of all face-up cards you control and reduce your Monsters' attack by 1000. Tyrant Downfall!"

Ultimate Falcon spread its wings wide, unleashing a barrage of bolts that struck Yuto's cards, causing them to lose their luster.

"Moving on, I detach an Overlay Unit from Assault Blaster Falcon to activate its effect." Shun continued. Now, let's battle! Assault Blaster Falcon, destroy Break Sword! Ground Zero Detonation!"

All of Assault Blaster Falcon's cannons swung forward, unleashing a barrage of energy blasts that vaporized Break Sword.

"I activate the Trap Card Phantom Knights Dread Escutcheon!" Yuto exclaimed as the shockwave from the explosions approached him. "Through its effect, the damage is reduced to 0 and I can draw a card from my Deck for every 2000 points of damage I would have received, meaning I can draw one card!"

"You may have avoided this damage, but you're not in the clear yet." Shun warned Yuto. "Assault Blaster Falcon's effect activates! When a "Raid Raptors" Monster on my field destroys an opponent's Monster, I can inflict 300 points of damage to them!"

A volley of missiles was launched from Assault Blaster Falcon's body, striking Yuto and causing him to wince from the pain.

"Since Break Sword was destroyed, its effect activates." Yuto stated. "Through it, I will—"

"I won't let you!" Shun cut off Yuto. "Assault Blaster Falcon's effect activates! By sending the Monster equipped to it to the Graveyard (Assault Blaster Falcon ATK: 5400→3800), I can negate the activation of Break Sword's effect!"

"Figures he would use it here…" Yuto grimaced.

"Finally, Ultimate Falcon will destroy Forsaken Glaive and deplete your Life Points!" Shun exclaimed. "Final Glorious Bright!"

"That won't happen!" Yuto shouted. "Since I'm about to take damage from a battle involving a "Phantom Knights" Monster I control, I can activate the Trap Card Phantom Knights Dark Coffin! Through its effect, the damage is reduced to 0 and I can Special Summon a Coffin Token with attack equal to the amount of damage I would have taken!"

Following Yuto's words, a massive orb of energy was formed in front of Ultimate Falcon and was shot forward, striking Forsaken Glaive and vaporizing it. However, the ensuing explosion was consumed by a sinister coffin that rose from the ground, with a mummy-like figure emerging from it.

"Not bad." Shun said. "However, since Ultimate Falcon destroyed an opponent's Monster, I can draw a card from my Deck thanks to the effect of Support Lanius, which is attached as an Overlay Unit to it. Furthermore, Assault Blaster Falcon's effect activates, dealing 300 points of damage to you!"

Yuto was once again struck by a barrage of missiles, letting out a pained groan.

"The effect of the destroyed Forsaken Glaive in my Graveyard activates." Yuto declared. "Through it, I can Special Summon it and use it as material to Xyz Summon a Dark-attribute Xyz Monster with a lower Rank than it. I will use Forsaken Glaive to reconstruct the Overlay Network!"

As Forsaken Glaive emerged from a fissure on the ground and turned into a stream of energy that was absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Yuto chanted.

"Formed from pitch-black darkness, to fight those foolish enough to oppose it with its treacherous fangs! Now, descend! Xyz Summon! Appear, Rank 4! Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon (ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/R: 4/OU: 1)!"

Dark Rebellion materialized on Yuto's field amidst a storm of lightning, letting out a piercing howl.

"Your ace has finally appeared, Yuto." Shun remarked. "I end my turn, with Ultimate Falcon's effect activating. Through it, all Monsters you control will lose 1000 attack."

Ultimate Falcon let out a furious screech, causing all Monsters on Yuto's field to flinch.

(Dark Rebellion ATK: 2500→1500, Coffin Token ATK: 2100→1100)

[Yuto has managed to withstand Kurosaki's furious assault, but finds himself in a precarious position!] Melissa exclaimed. [Facing two powerful Xyz Monsters, he has to come up with a breakthrough strategy before he's overwhelmed!]

"It's my turn!" Yuto announced. "Draw! I activate the effect of my Coffin Token. By destroying it, I can add a "Phantom Knights" Spell or Trap Card from my Deck to my hand. The one I will add is—the Spell Card Phantom Fusion!"

"Fusion?" Shun raised an eyebrow. "You've learned how to use Fusion Summon as well, Yuto?"

"That's right." Yuto confirmed it. "Ruri showed her resolve when she used Fusion Summon against you before, so I cannot fall behind. How could I stand by her side if I don't have that much resolve?"

As his two Monsters swirled inside a multi-colored vortex, Yuto chanted.

"Souls of proud warriors swirling in the darkness of the netherworld! Awaken now and merge as one into the ferocious swordsman of ruin! Fusion Summon! Arise, Level 9! Phantom Knights Void Falchion (Dark/Warrior/Fusion/Effect/ATK: 0/DEF: 3000/LV: 9)!"

A warrior clad in cracked black and orange armor that was armed with a sinister-looking falchion, which had a robe-like garment made out of blue flames flowing from his hips and bird-like flaming wings growing from its back, materialized on Yuto's field.

"Fusion…" Ruri let out a small smile. "Yuto, you're also moving forward."

"Void Falchion's effect activates." Yuto declared. "If this card was Fusion Summoned by using "Phantom Knights" Xyz Monsters as materials, it gains attack equal to the sum of their Ranks multiplied by 300 (Void Falchion ATK: 0→4200). But that's not all. As long as Void Falchion remains on the field, all Xyz Monsters on my opponent's field are treated as having Levels equal to their Ranks during my turn."

"Rank to Level…" Sayaka muttered, and then her eyes opened wide. "That means Dark Rebellion's effect can be used against Shun's Monsters now!"

"It's not only that." Byron added from the side. "Now Shun cannot use Rank-Up-Magic cards or effects that involve his Monsters' Ranks during Yuto's turn. That's quite the card."

"I'm not finished yet." Yuto stated. "I activate the Spell Card Rank-Up-Magic Phantom Knights Launch, using Dark Rebellion as material through its effect in order to Xyz Summon!"

As Dark Rebellion turned into a stream of energy that was absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Yuto chanted once again.

"From the depths of purgatory, dedicate your song of rebellion to the restless souls! Appear and echo forevermore! Rank-Up Xyz Change! Appear, Rank 5! Dark Requiem Xyz Dragon (ATK: 3000/DEF: 2500/R: 5/OU: 2)!"

Dark Requiem appeared on Yuto's field, letting out a furious howl.

[Yuto's ace Monster has evolved!] Nico exclaimed. [And with Kurosaki's Monsters having a Level now thanks to Void Falchion's effect, Yuto is set to inflict massive damage, or perhaps even decide the Duel here!]

"Through its effect, Phantom Knights Launch is attached to Dark Requiem as an Overlay Unit (Dark Requiem OU: 2→3)." Yuto continued. "Then, I detach an Overlay Unit to activate Dark Requiem's effect, which allows me to target a Level 5 or higher Monster my opponent controls and make its attack 0, while Dark Requiem gains attack equal to that Monster's attack until the End Phase. Since all your Monsters have Levels now, I will target Assault Blaster Falcon. Requiem Salvation!"

Dark Requiem spread its wings wide, releasing tendrils of darkness that bound Shun's Monster.

"You really thought it would be that easy!?" Shun shouted. "I activate the effect of Raid Raptors – Snipe in my Graveyard! By banishing it and sending Assault Blaster Falcon to the Graveyard, I can end the Battle Phase!"

"So close…" Yuto grimaced. "I place a card face-down and end my turn, with Dark Requiem's attack returning to normal (Dark Requiem ATK: 6800→3000)."

"That was a good plan, but not good enough." Shun said. "If that's all the strength you can muster, you have no business standing next to Ruri. Now, then, it's my turn! Draw! I activate the Spell Card Rank-Up-Magic Flock Force, whose effect allows me to target a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster on my field that has Xyz Materials attached to it and Special Summon a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster from my Extra Deck that's one Rank higher than it by using it as the Xyz Material. I will use Ultimate Falcon to reconstruct the Overlay Network!"

As Ultimate Falcon turned into a stream of energy that was absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Shun chanted.

The massive body of Orbital Fortress Falcon materialized on Shun's field, casting a long shadow over the Jungle Area.

"The Pendulum Effects of my two Pendulum Monsters activate, allowing me to draw a card from my Deck and increasing my Monster's attack by 300 for every Overlay Unit attached to it (Orbital Fortress Falcon ATK: 3800→4400)." Shun continued. "Moreover, Flock Force's second effect activates. Since the summoned Monster is the only Monster I control, I can attach a number of "Raid Raptors" Monsters equal to the number of Special Summoned Monsters my opponent controls from my Graveyard as Xyz Materials to it. I will attach Blaze Falcon and Revolution Falcon to it."

Following Shun's words, a portal appeared on the ground, with his two Monsters emerging from it and turning into Overlay Units that started orbiting Orbital Fortress Falcon.

"Three cards were destroyed, meaning I can draw three cards from my Deck." Shun stated as he drew his cards, a savage glint briefly appearing in his eyes. "Heh, you're truly out of luck, Yuto. Let's see you try and stop this! I activate the Spell Card Hyper-Rank-Up-Magic Raid Raptors Force! Through its effect, I can target a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster with two or more Overlay Units attached to it and Special Summon two "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monsters that are one Rank higher than it from my Extra Deck!"

"What did you say!?" Yuto cried out in shock. "Two Rank 12 Xyz Monsters in one go!?"

"Come to my side!" Shun declared. "Rank 12 Raid Raptors – Final Fortress Falcon (ATK: 3800/DEF: 2800/R: 12) and Raid Raptors – Glorious Triumph Falcon (ATK: 4500/DEF: 3500/R: 12)!"

Two large portals appeared above Shun, with his two Monsters emerging from it and coming to float next to Orbital Fortress Falcon.

[Unbelievable!] Melissa exclaimed. [With a single card, Kurosaki brought out two powerful Xyz Monsters! Things are looking pretty bleak for Yuto!]

"Through Raid Raptors Force's effect, two Overlay Units will be detached from Orbital Fortress Falcon, with one being attached to each Monster (Orbital Fortress Falcon OU: 3→1, Final Fortress Falcon OU: 0→1, Glorious Triumph Falcon OU: 0→1)." Shun said. "However, don't despair just yet. My summoned Monsters cannot attack or activate their effects during the turn they were summoned due to Raid Raptors Force's effect."

"Oh, thank God." Sayaka let out a relieved sigh. "At least Yuto only has to deal with a single Monster."

"However, Glorious Triumph Falcon's passive effect will still apply, increasing my other Monsters' attack by 800 (Orbital Fortress Falcon ATK: 4400→5200, Final Fortress Falcon ATK: 3800→4600)." Shun smirked. "Moreover, Orbital Fortress Falcon can attack all Monsters you control once each."

"This is bad!" Allen cried out. "If Yuto doesn't find some way to defend himself, he's finished!"

"Battle!" Shun roared. "Orbital Fortress Falcon, destroy Yuto's Monsters and wipe out his Life Points! Purification Flash Burst!"

"I activate the effect of Phantom Fusion in my Graveyard!" Yuto exclaimed. "By banishing it, I can halve all damage I receive from battles involving Dark-attribute Monsters for the rest of this turn! In addition, the first time "Phantom Knights" Fusion Monsters on my field would be destroyed, they aren't destroyed!"

Orbital Fortress Falcon spread its U-shaped wings wide as a massive energy blast was launched out of its main cannon, vaporizing Dark Requiem and sending Yuto flying backwards and crashing into a nearby tree, with a large number of tress around the two Duelists catching fire. Only Void Falchion remained unaffected due to an energy shield surrounding it.

"You may have survived this, but you're on death's door." Shun remarked. "I wonder if you can claw your way up from the edge of defeat. I place two cards face-down and end my turn."

"That caught me by surprise." Yuto said as he stood up, wiping away the dust from the edges of his uniform. "I never thought you'd bring out two Rank 12 Monsters in such a brazen manner. However, in the end, you've only given me more targets."

"Hoh, aren't you confident." Shun said. "You say you have a way to overcome three powerful Monsters that are unaffected by your card effects?"

"I already have everything I need as you're about to find out." Yuto grinned. "It's my turn! Draw! I activate the Spell Card Rank-Up-Magic Arise Force, whose effect allows me to target a Dark-attribute Xyz Monster in my Graveyard and use it and this card as material to Xyz Summon a Dark-attribute Xyz Monster from my Extra Deck that's one Rank higher than it. I will use Dark Rebellion as material to reconstruct the Overlay Network!"

As Dark Rebellion emerged from a fissure on the ground and turned into a stream of energy that was absorbed by the galaxy-like portal alongside Arise Force, Yuto chanted.

"Fangs of rebellion that dwell in the deep darkness! Be clad in the armor of catastrophe and awaken a new power! Xyz Summon! Appear, Rank 5! Arc Rebellion Xyz Dragon (ATK: 3000/DEF: 2500/R: 5/OU: 2)!"

The alternate evolved form of Dark Rebellion appeared on Yuto's field, blue flames spewing from the ends of its mechanical wings.

"Arc Rebellion…" Shun muttered. "The Monster that defeated Ruri. You think its power will be enough to take me down?"

"I guess we'll find out soon." Yuto said. "But first, I will activate Void Falchion's final effect. Through it, I can banish it, and then my opponent has to either detach all Overlay Units from every Xyz Monster they control or receive 800 points of damage for every Overlay Unit on their field. Now, what's your choice, Shun?"

"As if there is a choice here…" Shun clicked his tongue in irritation. "I will detach all Overlay Units from my Monsters."

"Next, I detach an Overlay Unit from Arc Rebellion to activate its effect." Yuto declared. "Through it, it gains attack equal to the attack of all Monsters you control, and since it has a Dark-attribute Monster attached to it as an Xyz Material, I can also negate your Monsters' effects. The flames emitted from Arc Rebellion's wings transformed into flaming tendrils that bound Shun's Monsters. At the same time, Arc Rebellion was enveloped by a dark aura.

Imperial falcon, enforce the truth of the world upon the foolish masses struggling within the gears of fate! Rank-Up Xyz Change! Subjugate all, Rank 12! Raid Raptors – Domination Tyrant Falcon (ATK: 4800/DEF: 4000/R: 12/OU: 1)!"

Domination Tyrant Falcon materialized on Shun's field, causing a powerful gust of wind to blow by extending its oversized wings.

"That Monster again…" Yuto grimaced. "So, you kept it after all?"

"Of course." Shun said. "After all, it's a grim reminder of one of the worst moments of my life. As loath as I am to use it, not going all out here would be disrespectful and defeat the purpose of this Duel. Now then, Domination Tyrant Falcon's effect activates! When this card is summoned successfully, I can destroy all cards on my opponent's field!"

A large number of red lightning bolts fell from the sky, destroying all cards on Yuto's field and leaving it bare.

"Next, I detach Domination Tyrant Falcon's Overlay Unit to activate its second effect." Shun continued. "Through it, I will banish Glorious Triumph Falcon to add half its attack to Domination Tyrant Falcon's attack and halve my opponent's Life Points. Autocratic Tribute!"

Yuto was bombarded by a rain of energy bullets that were shot from Domination Tyrant Falcon's wings, falling on his knees.

"By banishing it, I can reduce an instance of battle damage from a direct attack to 0, and then I can Special Summon a Dark-attribute Xyz Monster from my Graveyard with attack equal to the amount of damage I would have taken and its effects negated! Revive, Dark Rebellion!"

Domination Tyrant Falcon released a massive blast from the core on its chest, which however failed to reach Yuto thanks to a semi-transparent barrier that appeared around him, although the ground around him was vaporized. Then, a portal appeared on Yuto's field, with Dark Rebellion emerging from it.

"Since you've brought Dark Rebellion back, 'that' Monster is probably coming next." Shun said. "I place a card face-down and end my turn. At this moment, Domination Tyrant Falcon's effect activates, increasing my Life Points by an amount equal to the amount of Life Points my opponent lost during this turn."

Dark Nemesis emerged from the epicenter of an outburst of energy, landing on Yuto's field and letting out a furious howl.

"As expected, you brought it out…" Shun muttered. "This is the deciding moment."

"Due to its effect, Judgment Force will be attached to Dark Nemesis as an Overlay Unit (Dark Nemesis OU: 1→2)." Yuto stated. "Next, I detach an Overlay Unit to activate Dark Nemesis's effect. Once per turn, my opponent must choose a Monster on the field and banish it, with Dark Nemesis gaining attack equal to that Monster's attack. Since you only control Domination Tyrant Falcon, it will be banished. Do it, Dark Nemesis! Nemesis Verdict!"

Dark Nemesis's wings expanded as the gaps between the segments were filled with silver-colored energy that shot forward in the form of tendrils, piercing through Domination Tyrant Falcon's body and destroying it.

Through its effect, if a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster left my field during this turn, I can Special Summon a "Raid Raptors" Xyz Monster from my Extra Deck with a lower Rank than it by ignoring its summoning conditions, make its attack equal to that Xyz Monster's attack until the End Phase and force my opponent's Monster to attack it! Come forth, Raid Raptors – Rise Falcon (ATK: 100/DEF: 2000/R: 4)!"

Rise Falcon emerged on Shun's field, a crimson aura in the shape of Domination Tyrant Falcon surrounding it.

As Rise Falcon charged forward, its outstretched talons aiming for Dark Rebellion, Yuto smiled.

"You're a truly incredible Duelist, Shun. However—victory will be mine in the end! I activate the effect of the Trap Card Phantom Knights Harmony Blow in my Graveyard! [Well, everything is a Real Solid Vision construct, so it's not a problem.] Nico remarked. [The staff will have things patched up in no time.]

"That was a great Duel, Shun." Yuto said as he helped his friend up. "So, what's the verdict?"

"I certainly got a good taste of your strength and your resolve." Shun remarked, and then sighed. "Truth be told…I'm glad that you and Ruri got together. If it's you, I can entrust my sister to you with no worries. This Duel merely confirmed this. I won't stand in your way anymore."

"Shun…"

"But make no mistake, Yuto." Shun jabbed Yuto's chest with his finger. "I'll still be keeping an eye on you two. And if you break Ruri's heart, I'm going to break your legs. Is that clear?"

"Crystal." Yuto said with a smile. "However, it will never come to that. I swear it."

"See that it doesn't." Shun said as the hoverplane that had come to pick him up landed a few meters away. "I'll be taking my leave now. I'll be cheering you on alongside Ruri, so do your best."

"You got it." Yuto said. "Also, let's have another match once we get back home. One where we can just have fun Dueling against each other."

Shun didn't answer, merely giving Yuto a thumbs-up as he boarded the hoverplane. At that moment, Nico's voice echoed across the area once again.

"Come to think of it, our last match was shortly after I obtained Pendulum, wasn't it?" Yuya said, a sheepish expression on his face. "I…kind of a made a fool of myself back there, trying to use Pendulum without having any idea how it worked."

"You definitely did, and cost us almost all the applicants." Yuzu huffed, but then smiled. "But things aren't the same now, right?"

"Yes." Yuya nodded. "This time, I'm going all out as the originator of Pendulum. And when this is over, then maybe I…"

"Huh?" Yuzu frowned. "What was that?"

"No, no, it was nothing!" Yuya made a dismissive gesture in a haste. "Since I was the one to start last time, how about you take the first turn this time?"

"Don't mind if I do!" Yuzu said. "My turn! Draw!"

"Go, Yuzu!" Shuzo cheered. "Burn on fiercely and turn Yuya to ashes! Sorry, but I will be cheering for my daughter, Yuya!"

Soprano materialized on Yuzu's field amidst a petal shower.

Ode appeared on Yuzu's field next to Soprano.

"Due to its effect, Ode can be treated as two materials for the Fusion Summon of a "Melodious" Monster." Yuzu continued. "In addition, Soprano's effect allows me to perform a Fusion Summon without using Fusion. As such, I will fuse Soprano and Ode on my field through the former's effect!"

As her two Monsters swirled inside a multi-colored vortex, Yuzu chanted.

The Monster clad in a dress resembling a pale blue flower with several notes inscribed on it, which held a staff with a crimson crystal on its tip, appeared on Yuzu's field.

"I place a card face-down and end my turn." Yuzu said. "Now, come at me, Yuya."

"It's my turn!" Yuya announced. "Draw! Using the Scale 2 Entermate Hermit Crab Landlord (Water/Aqua/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 500/DEF: 2500/LV: 5/SC: 2) and the Scale 8 Entermate Heavenly Magician (ATK: 1500/DEF: 1000/LV: 4/SC: 8), I Set the Pendulum Scale!"

The two columns of light appeared on Yuya's sides, with a crab bearing an oversized shell and Heavenly Magician rising to their top.

"Now I can simultaneously summon Monsters with Levels 3 through 7." Yuya declared. "Sway, Pendulum of my soul! Draw an arc of light across the ether! Pendulum Summon! Come forth, Entermate Fireflux (ATK: 1200/DEF: 1600/LV: 4/SC: 5)!"

A single beam of light emerged from the Pendulum portal, solidifying into the form of Fireflux upon landing on Yuya's field.

"You only Pendulum Summoned a single Monster?" Yuzu frowned. "What are you planning, Yuya?"

"Patience." Yuya smirked. "You're about to find out. I activate the Ritual Spell Card Odd-Eyes Advent, offering Fireflux as tribute to Ritual Summon!"

The altar with two torches which let out a red and blue flame respectively appeared on Yuya's field, with Fireflux being absorbed by it. As a vortex of crimson and blue flames erupted from the altar, Yuya chanted.

"Show yourself, peerless dragon knight with the dichromatic eyes! Ritual Summon! Descend now, Level 4! Knight of Odd-Eyes Dragon (Dark/Dragon/Ritual/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 1900/DEF: 1200/LV: 4/SC: 5)!"

A knight clad in red and green armor that held a blade in its right hand, which rode on a small dragon resembling Odd-Eyes Dragon, appeared on Yuya's field.

"Another Ritual Monster?" Yukio smirked. "Looks like Yuya has put my lessons to good use."

"Knight of Odd-Eyes Dragon's effect activates." Yuya declared. "If this card was Ritual Summoned by using a Pendulum Summoned Monster, I can Special Summon a Level 7 or lower "Odd-Eyes" Monster from my Deck and increase its attack by an amount equal to the sum of my Pendulum Cards' Scale Value multiplied by 100. Come forth, wondrous dragon with beautiful dichromatic eyes, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon (ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/LV: 7/SC: 4)!"

Knight of Odd-Eyes Dragon slashed the air with its blade, opening a rift out of which Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon emerged on Yuya's field. Then, wisps of energy drifted out of Yuya's Pendulum cards and enveloped Odd-Eyes.

"Battle!" Yuya exclaimed. "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, attack Meisterin Verdi! Spiral Strike Burst!"

"I activate the Trap Card Seven-Layered Petal Shield!" Yuzu shouted. "Through its effect, Meisterin Verdi cannot be destroyed by battle this turn and all damage from battles involving it is halved! Moreover, Meisterin Verdi's effect negates the effects of my opponent's Monsters during the Battle Phase, meaning Odd-Eyes' damage-doubling effect won't apply!"

Following Yuzu's words, a crimson torrent of energy erupted from Odd-Eyes' mouth, only to be blocked by a flower-shaped shield that materialized in front of Meisterin Verdi. The ensuing shockwave caused Yuzu to wince.

"With the Battle Phase's end, Seven-Layered Petal Shield's effect activates, destroying Meisterin Verdi and allowing me to draw cards from my Deck equal to the number of Monsters used to Fusion Summon it, in this case two." Yuzu said as Meisterin Verdi vanished from her field. "Furthermore, Meisterin Verdi's own effect activates, which lets me draw a card from my Deck when it's destroyed."

"I guess that should be enough for the opening act." Yuya remarked. "I end my turn with this."

"Then, it's my turn!" Yuya announced. "Draw! Using the Scale 2 Arpeggio the Melodious Diva (Light/Fairy/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 2400/DEF: 1200/LV: 6/SC: 2) and the Scale 7 Tremolo the Melodious Songstress (Light/Fairy/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 400/DEF: 1150/LV: 3/SC: 7), I Set the Pendulum Scale!"

Two columns of light appeared on Yuzu's sides, with a female Monster clad in a vermillion dress with several notes inscribed on it and a female Monster clad in a black dress and wearing a half-moon mask rising to their top.

"A new Pendulum Scale?" Yuya said. "Looks like you've also got a few surprises in store, Yuzu."

"I did save some of my moves for the latter matches after all." Yuzu smiled. "Plus, I'm sure you're also hiding a thing or two, right, Yuya?"

"Perhaps." Yuya placed a finger on his mouth, making a 'shush' sound. "But you know the rules. A performer cannot tip his hand too early lest he loses the audience's attention."

"In that case, I will force your hand." Yuzu declared. "With my current Scale, I can simultaneously summon Monsters with Levels 2 through 6. Pendulum Summon! Join us on the stage, Canon the Melodious Diva (ATK: 1400/DEF: 2000/LV: 4) and Opera the Melodious Diva (ATK: 2300/DEF: 1000/LV: 4)!"

Two beams of light erupted from the Pendulum portal, solidifying into the forms of Monsters upon landing on Yuzu's field.

"At this moment, Tremolo's Pendulum Effect activates." Yuzu continued. "When "Melodious" Monsters are successfully Special Summoned while my opponent controls Special Summoned Monsters, I can Special Summon a "Melodious" Monster from my Graveyard. Revive, Soprano!"

A portal appeared on Yuzu's field, with Soprano emerging from it.

"I will use Soprano's effect to perform a Fusion Summon by using it, Canon and Opera as materials!" As her three Monsters swirled inside a multi-colored vortex, Yuzu chanted. "Angel's song! Supreme prodigy! Timeless artist! With the guidance of the baton, gather your power! Fusion Summon! Now, come to the stage, Level 8! The song of wonder, Bloom Muse the Melodious Floral Goddess (ATK: 3000/DEF: 2100/LV: 8)!"

The female Monster with long, blond hair clad in a white and black bodysuit, which had a pink cape with a leaf design and musical notes inscribed on it extending from its shoulders, was surrounded by nine glowing orbs and held a baton-shaped branch in its right arm, appeared on Yuzu's field.

"I activate Bloom Muse's effect." Yuzu declared. "When this card is Fusion Summoned, I can destroy all Monsters on my opponent's side of the field. Roses Hurricane!"

A storm of petals erupted on the field, swallowing Yuya's Monsters and leaving his field wide open.

[Yuzu-chan annihilated Yuya's Monster in an instant!] Melissa exclaimed. [Good going, Yuzu-chan!]

"I'm far from finished here." Yuzu said. "Since I successfully Fusion Summon a "Melodious" Fusion Monster, Arpeggio's Pendulum Effect activates. Through it, I can Special Summon a "Melodious" Fusion Monster from my Extra Deck by ignoring its summoning conditions if the materials necessary for its Fusion Summon are in my Graveyard. Come forth, Meisterin Rossini the Melodious Maestra (ATK: 3300/DEF: 2500/LV: 9)!"

Meisterin Rossini materialized on Yuzu's field next to Bloom Muse.

"I activate Meisterin Rossini's effect, which allows me to Special Summon a "Melodious" Monster from my Graveyard and add half its attack to all other "Melodious" Monsters I control until the End Phase." Yuzu stated. "Revive, Meisterin Verdi!"

Meisterin Rossini struck the ground with its rapier, opening a crack out of which Meisterin Verdi emerged. Immediately afterwards, a golden radiance enveloped Meisterin Rossini and Bloom Muse.

"I activate the Trap Card Entermate Daring Escape!" Yuya shouted. "Through its effect, I will banish Entermate Fireflux from my Extra Deck to reduce all battle damage I receive to 0 for the rest of this turn!"

[That was close!] Nico announced. [If Sakaki Yuya didn't have his Trap Card, Hiiragi Yuzu's assault would have probably wiped out his Life Points!]

"Ending the show here would be very anticlimactic." Yuzu said. "I end my turn, with my Monsters' attacks returning to normal (Bloom Muse ATK: 4300→3000, Meisterin Rossini ATK: 4600→3300)."

"It's my turn!" Yuya announced. "Draw! First, I will Pendulum Summon once again. Revive from the Extra Deck, Knight of Odd-Eyes Dragon and Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"

Two beams of light erupted from the Pendulum portal, solidifying into the forms of Monsters upon landing on Yuya's field.

"I activate the Spell Card Odd-Eyes Gemstone, destroying Odd-Eyes in order to draw two cards from my Deck." Yuya continued as Odd-Eyes exploded in a burst of particles. "Since an "Odd-Eyes" Monster on my field was destroyed, Knight of Odd-Eyes Dragon's effect activates, allowing me to Special Summon an "Odd-Eyes" Monster from my Deck with the same or lower Level than the destroyed Monster once per Duel. Come forth, Odd-Eyes Arc Pendulum Dragon (ATK: 2700/DEF: 2000/LV: 7/SC: 8)!"

Knight of Odd-Eyes Dragon stabbed its blade on the ground, opening a fissure out of which Arc Pendulum Dragon emerged.

Clear Wing Wizard appeared on Yuya's field next to his other two Monsters.

"Clear Wing…" Yugo frowned, but then his eyes opened wide. "Don't tell me…!"

"I tune the Level 7 Arc Pendulum Dragon which is treated as Clear Wing Synchro Dragon with the Level 1 Clear Wing Wizard!" As Arc Pendulum Dragon tuned into seven stars and Clear Wing Wizard turned into a single ring surrounding them, Yuya chanted. "Dragon with dual-colored eyes! Gain the shining wings of light and soar to the summit of supremacy! Synchro Summon! Appear, Level 8! The shining dragon with piercing eyes, Supreme King White Dragon – Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon (ATK: 3000/DEF: 2500/LV: 8/SC: 10)!"

The dragon with dichromatic eyes clad in white armor reminiscent of Clear Wing's, which had two wings protruding from its back and several mirrors attached to its body, appeared on Yuya's field, letting out a thunderous roar.

"That's one of the hybrid Monsters Yuya used against Zarc." Yukio remarked while smirking. "Looks like he's been holding out on us."

"I didn't expect I'd be facing that Monster." Yuzu remarked with a strained smile. "Is this one of your trump cards, Yuya?"

"That's right." Yuya smiled. "I wasn't sure at first, but it turns out I can use these guys even without the other Heavenly Dragons in my Deck. Now then, I activate Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon's effect. Once per turn, I can target a Monster my opponent controls, destroy as many Monsters my opponent controls as possible and increase this card's attack by an amount equal to the targeted Monster's attack until the End Phase. I will target your 3300 attack Meisterin Rossini! Do it, Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon! Theoretic Mirror!"

Following Yuya's words, waves of light erupted from the mirrors attached to Wing Dragon's body and struck Yuzu's Monsters, destroying them.

A portal appeared on Yuzu's field, with Canon emerging from it.

"Let's battle! Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon, attack Canon!"

Yuya exclaimed as he started running in search of Action Cards, with Yuzu following suit. Spotting one embedded at the top of a nearby arch, Yuya activated his rollerblades and dashed on a nearby broken road, flying off the edge and sailing in the air. Twisting his body in the air, Yuya grabbed the Action Card with a swift move and landed on top of a broken pillar. However, his expression fell as he checked it out.

"Tch, it's the Action Trap Rusty Sword, which reduces the attack of a Monster on my field by 800 until the Battle Phase's end. I choose Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon as the target (Wing Dragon ATK: 6300→5500). In any case, the battle continues! Do it, Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon! Spiral Tempest Break!"

Odd-Eyes started spinning while surrounded by raging gusts of wind, piercing through Canon's body and destroying it.

"Next, Knight of Odd-Eyes Dragon will attack you directly, Yuzu!" Yuya shouted. "Duality Blade!"

Knight of Odd-Eyes Dragon's blade was surrounded by energy as it charged forward. Yuzu attempted to run in search of an Action Card, but she barely managed to take three steps before the ground underneath her started crumbling. Although she escaped from that place with dexterous movements, she lost precious time and was unable to avoid Knight of Odd-Eyes Dragon's slash, which sent her flying backwards as she let out a cry of pain.

"This concludes my second act." Yuya said while making a small bow. "I place a card face-down and end my turn, with Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon's attack returning to normal (Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon ATK: 6300→3000)."

"It's a good thing for big sis Yuzu that big bro Yuya didn't find a good Action Card." Ayu remarked. "Otherwise, this Duel might have ended by now. Still, big sis Yuzu is in a tight spot now."

"Not for long I bet." Tatsuya said. "I'm sure she's got one or two surprises in store for big bro Yuya."

"It's my turn!" Yuzu announced. "Draw! First, I will Pendulum Summon once again! Come forth, Elegy the Melodious Diva (ATK: 2000/DEF: 1200/LV: 5) and the Tuner Monster Vivace the Melodious Diva (Light/Fairy/Tuner/Effect/ATK: 800/DEF: 600/LV: 3)!"

"One thing at a time." Yuzu said. "First, Tremolo's Pendulum Effect activates. Through it, I will Special Summon Bloom Muse from my Graveyard!"

A portal appeared on Yuzu's field, with Bloom Muse emerging from it.

"Next, I tune the Level 5 Elegy with the Level 3 Vivace!" As Elegy turned into five stars and Vivace turned into three rings surrounding them, Yuzu chanted. "Seductive melody of judgment! May your divine voice resound across the infinite realms and bind all of creation to your whims! Synchro Summon! Manifest, Level 8! Meisterin Ishtar the Melodious Heavenly Voice (Light/Fairy/Synchro/Effect/ATK: 3000/DEF: 2900/LV: 8)!"

An alluring female Monster clad in a light blue dancer's outfit made out of petals with notes engraved on it, which held an oversized golden lyre that was shaped like a bow, materialized on Yuzu's field.

"As expected, you brought out a Synchro Monster." Yuya said. "You also mastered this form of summoning?"

"You're not the only one who can pull out unexpected moves after all." Yuzu winked. "Next, Arpeggio's second Pendulum Effect activates. Once per turn, when I Special Summon a "Melodious" Synchro or Xyz Monster from my Extra Deck, I can deal 800 points of damage to my opponent. Take this, Yuya!"

Arpeggio opened its mouth, letting out a powerful shockwave that struck Yuya and caused him to let out a gasp of pain.

Following Yuzu's words, Meisterin Ishtar began stroking the chords of its lyre. Immediately afterwards, cracks started appeared on Knight of Odd-Eyes Dragon's body, with the Monster exploding shortly afterwards. At the same time, Meisterin Ishtar was surrounded by a golden aura.

Meisterin Ishtar pulled all the chords on its lyre as an energy arrow formed on it. Upon releasing them, the arrow flew straight at Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon, piercing its chest and destroying it, with the ensuing explosion sending Yuya crashing into the wall a nearby ruin.

"Since an "Odd-Eyes" Monster on my field was destroyed, I can activate the Trap Card Avenging Eyes!" Yuya declared. As such, Bloom Muse will be banished!"

A rift in space opened above Yuya, with Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon emerging from it. At the same time, a fissure opened under Bloom Muse, with several spectral hands dragging it into its depths.

A large portal appeared above Yuzu's field, with her three Monsters emerging from it.

Sonata materialized on Yuzu's field next to her other Monsters.

"I activate the Spell Card Fusion, fusing Sonata and Beat!" As her two Monsters swirled inside a multi-colored vortex, Yuzu chanted. "Flowing melody! Vivacious melody! With guidance of the baton, gather your power! Fusion Summon! Now, come here to the stage, Level 6! Meisterin Schubert the Melodious Maestra (ATK: 2400/DEF: 2000/LV: 6)!"

Meisterin Schubert materialized on Yuzu's field.

"Beat's effect activates, allowing me to Special Summon it from my Graveyard once per Duel if it was used as material for the Fusion Summon of a "Melodious" Fusion Monster." Yuzu stated as Beat appeared once more on her field. "Next, I activate the Spell Card Harmonic Fusion, using its effect to fuse the four "Melodious" Monsters on my field!"

As her four Monsters started swirling inside a multi-colored vortex, Yuzu chanted once again.

"Harmonious voice! Vivacious melody! Passionate rhythm! Sacred melody! With guidance of the baton, gather your power! Fusion Summon! Grace the stage with your majesty, Level 10! Bloom Dryad the Melodious Floral Spirit (ATK: 3400/DEF: 2100/LV: 10)!"

The female Monster with elfish features clad in a formal dress made out of golden leaves, which had oversized leaf-shaped wings growing from its back, appeared on Yuzu's field.

"Harmonic Fusion's effect activates, increasing Bloom Dryad's attack by 200 for every Fusion Material (Bloom Dryad ATK: 3400→4200), while Rondo's effect allows me to draw a card from my Deck for every Fusion Material, in this case four." Yuzu said. "Furthermore, Arpeggio and Tremolo's Pendulum Effects activate. Through them, I will Special Summon Meisterin Verdi from my Graveyard and Meisterin Boieldieu the Melodious Maestra (ATK: 2800/DEF: 2100/LV: 8) from my Extra Deck!"

Two portals appeared on Yuzu's field, with her two Monsters emerging from it.

"I activate the Spell Card Cacophony Strike, which allows me to destroy a face-up Monster and a face-up Spell or Trap Card on my opponent's field if I control two or more "Melodious" Fusion Monsters." Yuzu continued. "I will destroy Knight of Odd-Eyes Dragon and Entermate Heavenly Magician!"

A powerful soundwave erupted from Yuzu's card, destroying the designated cards.

"Next, I activate Bloom Dryad's effect, which allows me to increase the attack of all "Melodious" Monsters I control by 600 for every "Melodious" Monster on the field." Yuzu stated. "However, my Monsters won't be able to activate their effects until the end of this turn. Since there are three "Melodious" Monsters, all Monsters I control gain 1800 attack (Bloom Dryad ATK: 4200→6000, Meisterin Verdi ATK: 2600→4400, Meisterin Boieldieu ATK: 2800→4600)."

"Would you look at that." Sora whistled, impressed. "That's quite the firepower she's brought out there. As expected of my best disciple."

"Three Monsters with attack exceeding 4000…" Gongenzaka frowned. "Is this the end, or do you have something in store, Yuya?"

"Battle!" Yuzu exclaimed. "Bloom Dryad, destroy Gale-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! Tranquility Phoneme!"

"I activate the Trap Card Pendulum Arena!" Yuya declared. "Thanks to its effect, all damage I take from battles involving Pendulum Monsters is reduced to 400 for the duration of this Battle Phase!"

Following Yuya's words, Bloom Dryad flapped its wings, generating golden soundwaves that struck Gale-Eyes and destroying it, with Yuya being blown backwards due to the ensuing shockwave and crashing through a crumbling wall.

Just as he extricated himself from the rubble, Yuya noticed an Action Card lying in the pile and grabbed it. However, his expression fell upon realizing he couldn't use it in this situation.

"I might not be able to defeat you during this turn, but I'll certainly trim down your Life Points at least." Yuzu stated. "Now, let's continue! Meisterin Boieldieu, destroy Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon! Conductus Wave!"

Meisterin Boieldieu swung its two batons, generating a shockwave that struck Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon and disintegrated it, with Yuya wincing due to being struck by the shockwave as well.

"Finally, Meisterin Verdi will destroy Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!" Yuzu shouted. "Triumph Ballad!"

Meisterin Verdi raised its staff, unleashing a stream of notes that enveloped Pendulum Dragon, destroying it and creating another shockwave that sent Yuya skidding backwards.

Yuya – LP: 1450→1050

"Ow, that was quite nasty…" Yuya grumbled as he rubbed his aching limbs. "As expected from Strong Yuzu. Your brute strength knows no bounds."

"Oi, why are you making me sound like a barbarian!?" Yuzu complained with an indignant expression. "Want me to come over there and deck you, Yuya!?"

"You just answered your own question…" Yuya let out a nervous chuckle. "In any case, Pendulum Arena's second effect activates. With the Battle Phase's end, I can draw a card from my Deck for every Pendulum Monster that was destroyed during the Battle Phase. Plus, if I control no Monsters, I can draw one more card from my Deck."

"Humph." Yuzu crossed her arms. "Let's hope you can put those cards to good use. I place two cards face-down and end my turn."

[Sakaki Yuya has survived Hiiragi Yuzu's consecutive attacks, but has found himself in quite the pinch!] Nico exclaimed. [Faced with three powerful Fusion Monsters, can he pull off yet another reversal or is this the end for him!?]

"No, the counterattack starts from here." Yuya declared. "It's my turn! Draw! I will use the Scale 8 Entermate Skullcrobat Joker (ATK: 1800/DEF: 100/LV: 4/SC: 8) to rebuild my Pendulum Scale!"

The left column of light appeared once again on Yuya's field, with Skullcrobat Joker rising to its top.

"Now I can simultaneously summon Monsters with Levels 2 through 7 once again." Yuya declared. "Pendulum Summon! Revive from the Extra Deck, Arc Pendulum Dragon, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon! And from my hand, come, Entermate Star Juggler (ATK: 1000/DEF: 1400/LV: 4) and Entermate Odd-Eyes Tiger (Dark/Beast/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 1700/DEF: 800/LV: 4/SC: 2)!"

Four beams of light erupted from the Pendulum portal, solidifying into the forms of Odd-Eyes, Arc Pendulum Dragon, Star Juggler and a Monster resembling a tiger with dichromatic eyes that was clad in a performer's outfit.

"I activate Star Juggler's effect to make the Levels of all Monsters on my opponent's field equal to Odd-Eyes' Level of 7." Yuya continued. "Then, I Overlay the Level 4 Star Juggler and Odd-Eyes Tiger!"

As his two Monsters turned into streams of energy that were absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Yuya chanted.

"Dragon with the dichromatic eyes! Erase everything before you with the relentless flames of chaos and tear apart the proud with your fearsome claws! Xyz Summon! Appear, Rank 4! Odd-Eyes Extremis Dragon (ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000/R: 4/OU: 2)!"

Extremis Dragon appeared on Yuya's field, letting out a sonorous roar.

"A Rank 4 Xyz Monster coupled with two Level 7 Dragons…" Yuto murmured before smirking. "Looks like it's 'that' Monster's turn next."

"I activate the Spell Card Phantom Knights Possession, granting Extremis Dragon a Level equal to that of Arc Pendulum Dragon's Level of 7." Yuya declared. "Then, I Overlay the Level 7 Arc Pendulum Dragon with the now Level 7 Odd-Eyes Extremis Dragon!"

As his two Monsters turned into streams of energy that were absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Yuya chanted once again.

"Dragon with the dual-colored eyes! Unleash that black scale of wrath and eradicate all opposing enemies! Xyz Summon! Come forth, Rank 7! Dragon with eyes of rage, Supreme King Black Dragon – Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon (ATK: 3000/DEF: 2500/R: 7/OU: 2)!"

The dragon resembling a fusion between Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon and Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon appeared on Yuya's field amidst a lightning storm, letting out an outraged howl.

"Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon…" Gongenzaka muttered. "Yuzu might be in serious trouble now."

"This is a stage fitting for you, especially since this was the place where you were first born so to speak." Yuya said as he patted his dragon's leg. "Now then, Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon's effect activates! When this card is Xyz Summoned successfully, I can destroy all Level 7 or lower Monsters my opponent controls and deal damage to them equal to their combined attack! Overlord Howling!"

Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon let out a resounding howl as three black lightning bolts descended from the sky, destroying Yuzu's Monsters before heading straight for her.

"If you think that's enough to take me down, think again, Yuya!" Yuzu shouted. "I activate the Trap Card Reflection Melody! Through its effect, if I'm about to take damage due to the destruction of a "Melodious" Monster on my field, I can reduce that damage to 0, draw a card from my Deck and inflict half that amount of damage to my opponent! Be sunk by your own Monster's effect, Yuya!"

"That won't happen!" Yuya said. "I activate the Action Card I picked up before, Life Lock! Through its effect, I can prevent a player's Life Points from being modified! In this case, I'll prevent my Life Points from being modified!"

"Not bad, but I'm not done yet." Yuzu said. "Meisterin Verdi's effect activates, allowing me to draw a card from my Deck, while Bloom Dryad's effect reduces your Monsters' attack by an amount equal to half its attack on the field, meaning your Monsters lose 3000 attack (Rebellion Dragon ATK: 3000→0, Odd-Eyes ATK: 2500→0). Looks like your dragons have lost their fangs, Yuya."

"Don't be so sure." Yuya smirked. "I activate the effect of Odd-Eyes Tiger in my Graveyard. By banishing it, I can target an "Odd-Eyes" Monster on my field and increase its attack by 300 for every other "Odd-Eyes" card on my field. I will target Rebellion Dragon, increasing its attack by 300 (Rebellion Dragon ATK: 0→300). Then, I detach an Overlay Unit from Rebellion Dragon to allow it to attack a number of times equal to the number of Monsters its effect destroyed, in this case three."

"Three direct attacks from Rebellion Dragon would be enough to finish off anyone, but with his attack in that state…" Yuto remarked. "Yuya should be able to damage Yuzu a bit at least."

"Battle!" Yuya exclaimed. "Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon, attack Yuzu directly!"

"I activate the effect of Beat in my Graveyard!" Yuzu declared. "When I'm about to receive a direct attack, I can pay 500 Life Points to Special Summon this card from my Graveyard and force my opponent's Monster to attack it! Revive, Beat in defense mode!"

A portal appeared on Yuzu's field, with Beat emerging from it. At the same time, Yuzu was enveloped by a crimson aura as she winced.

[An unexpected counter from Yuzu-chan!] Melissa exclaimed. [If this attack continues as is, Yuya will take enough damage to reduce his Life Points to 0!]

"I activate the effect Rebellion Dragon gained from the banished Odd-Eyes Tiger!" Yuya said. "Once per turn, when it battles an opponent's Monster, I can release another "Odd-Eyes" Monster on my field and add its attack to Rebellion Dragon's attack for that battle only! Of course, I will release the 2500 attack Odd-Eyes (Rebellion Dragon ATK: 300→2800)! Do it, Rebellion Dragon! Thunder of Revolution – Lightning Strike!"

Rebellion Dragon opened its mouth wide, unleashing a violet-colored energy blast that vaporized Beat with ease.

Rebellion Dragon's wings opened up as energy constructs were formed in them and its tusks were surrounded by lightning as it charged forward, grinding the ground as it did so. Yuzu tried to dodge its charge, but was too slow and was blown backwards. Flying around her, Rebellion Dragon charged once again and struck Yuzu for a second time causing a cry of pain to escape from her lips.

"This concludes our current act." Yuya said. "I place a card face-down and end my turn."

"My turn!" Yuzu announced. "Draw! First, I will Pendulum Summon! Join us on the stage, Tamtam the Melodious Diva (ATK: 1000/DEF: 2000/LV: 4), Serenade the Melodious Diva (ATK: 400/DEF: 1900/LV: 4) and the second copy of Canon the Melodious Diva!"

Three beams of light erupted from the Pendulum portal, solidifying into the forms of Monsters upon landing on Yuzu's field.

"I Overlay my three Level 4 Monsters!" As her three Monsters turned into streams of energy that were absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Yuzu chanted. "Hot-blooded melody of combat! Light up the flame of valor in the hearts of men and resound forevermore! Xyz Summon! Appear, Rank 4! Meisterin Hathor the Melodious Heavenly Voice (ATK: 2800/DEF: 2500/R: 4/OU: 3)!"

The beautiful female Monster clad in a regal reddish-brown dress with notes engraved on it, which had a pair of large, blue-colored wings extending from its back, a crown resembling a disk with two horns extending from it placed on its head and held a sistrum in its hands, appeared on Yuzu's field.

"Meisterin Hathor's effect activates, allowing me to destroy Skullcrobat Joker." Yuzu continued as a beam of light erupted from her crown, vaporizing Skullcrobat Joker. "Next, Arpeggio's second Pendulum Effect activates, dealing 800 points of damage to you, Yuya!"

Arpeggio unleashed a shockwave that struck Yuya squarely on his abdomen and caused him to double over from the pain.

Yuya – LP: 1050→250

"I activate the Ritual Spell Heavenly Voice Ritual." Yuzu declared. "Through its effect, I will shuffle Elegy, Vivace and Beat in my Graveyard back to my Deck in order to Ritual Summon!"

The ornate altar surrounded by a large pipe organ appeared on Yuzu's field, with her two Monsters turning into particles and being absorbed by the pipe organ, which started playing a beautiful tune. As a towering pillar of light erupted from the altar, Yuzu chanted.

"Exalted diva of the heavens! May your song of healing echo across the world and signal the coming of a new utopia! Ritual Summon! Now, come to the stage, Level 10! The divine songstress, Meisterin Gabriel the Melodious Heavenly Voice (ATK: 3200/DEF: 2300/LV: 10)!"

The alluring female Monster clad in a gold and white dress with glowing musical notes engraved on it, which had six golden wings protruding from its back and held an ornate crimson horn in its right hand, appeared on Yuzu's field.

"That's a nice line-up, but I won't give you a chance to use it!" Yuya exclaimed. "I activate the Trap Card Odd-Eyes Consecration, whose effect allows me to target an "Odd-Eyes" Monster and make its attack and defense 0 along with negating its effects! In exchange, that Monster cannot leave the field and I take no damage from battles involving it until the end of this turn! Of course, I will target Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon!"

"How annoying…" Yuzu grimaced as her eyes darted around. "No Action Cards in sight either… No choice then. I end my turn with this."

"It's my turn!" Yuya announced. "Draw! Now then, I think we should liven up things a bit more for this act. Don't you agree, Yuzu?"

"Oh, that sounds interesting." Yuzu said. "However, you only have a single card in your hand and a Monster with 0 attack on your field. What can you do with just that?"

"I can open the path to victory." Yuya declared with a confident expression. "Time for my new power to make its debut here. I activate the Spell Card Rank-Up-Magic Arc Force! Through its effect, I will use Rebellion Dragon on my field as material to Xyz Summon a Pendulum Xyz Monster from my Extra Deck that is one Rank higher than it!"

As Rebellion Dragon turned into a stream of energy that was absorbed by the galaxy-like portal, Yuya chanted.

"Dragon with the dual-colored eyes! May your black heart of wrath be consecrated by the sacred light and be reborn into that of a hero's! Rank-Up Xyz Change! Appear now, Rank 8! Divine dragon bringing salvation to all, Supreme King Serenity Dragon – Odd-Eyes Absolution Dragon (Light/Dragon/Xyz/Pendulum/Effect/ATK: 4000/DEF: 2000/R: 8/SC: 10/OU: 2)!"

A Monster somewhat resembling Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon, only clad in gold armor with turquoise energy lines running through it, which had eight wings that resembled a cross between dragon and angel ones protruding from its back, appeared on Yuya's field, letting out a resounding howl.

[This is!] Nico exclaimed. [How surprising! Sakaki Yuya successfully performs a Rank-Up to bring out an even more powerful Xyz Monster! Could this be the deciding move!?]

"I detach an Overlay Unit from Absolution Dragon to activate its effect." Yuya declared. "Thanks to it, I can return all cards on my opponent's field back to their Deck and have this card gain 500 attack for each returned card, while I gain 500 Life Points for every returned card. Do it, Absolution Dragon! Rapture Howling!"

Following Yuya's words, Absolution Dragon let out a sonorous roar as it spread its eight wings, releasing a golden aura that enveloped both players' fields. Immediately afterwards, Yuzu's two Monsters, her two Pendulum cards and her face-down card turned into particles of light and vanished, while the aura surrounding Absolution Dragon was strengthened.

"Let's settle this, Yuzu!" Yuya exclaimed. "Battle! Odd-Eyes Absolution Dragon, attack Yuzu directly! Burst Shine of Deliverance – Advent Force!"

Absolution Dragon opened its maw wide as its body lit up, unleashing a powerful blast that enveloped Yuzu and caused a giant explosion that engulfed the area.

[What power!] Melissa shouted. [I could feel that all the way here! But what about Yuzu-chan!? Did this attack take her down!?]

"Of course not!"

As the smoke cleared, Yuzu could be seen standing upright, a triumphant smirk on her face.

"You weren't defeated?" Yuya wondered. "That attack should have wiped out your Life Points."

"It would have if it wasn't for Tremolo's second Pendulum Effect." Yuzu said. "Thanks to it, on the turn Tremolo leaves the Pendulum Zone, I can reduce an instance of damage to 0. That's why I was able to avoid defeat."

"That's what I'm talking about!" Shuzo cheered. "Even when the situation seems grim, Yuzu won't give up until the end! Burn up even more, Yuzu!"

"You got me there." Yuya smiled. "I can't wait to see what you're planning to do next. I end my turn."

"My turn!" Yuzu announced. "Draw! I activate the Spell Card Timbre Fusion, whose effect allows me to shuffle Meisterin Verdi, Bloom Dryad and Meisterin Boieldieu from my Graveyard back to the Extra Deck in order to Fusion Summon!"

As her three Monsters began swirling inside a multi-colored vortex, Yuzu chanted.

"As three passionate voices join together, the slumbering melody of the Earth will echo throughout the far reaches of creation! Gather your supreme talent under the guidance of the baton and give birth to a new life! Fusion Summon! Manifest now, Level 12! The song of genesis, Bloom Gaia the Melodious Floral Progenitor (ATK: 4000/DEF: 3800/LV: 12)!"

The towering female Monster with flowing silver hair and elfish features clad in a regal dress made out of viridian and crimson flowers with gold ends, which had several tree branches growing from its back and had a massive white broadsword with several musical notes engraved on it floating next to it, appeared on Yuzu's field.

"Bloom Gaia…" Serena muttered. "If it's this Monster, then Absolution Dragon doesn't stand a chance against it."

"Battle!" Yuzu exclaimed. "Bloom Gaia, attack Odd-Eyes Absolution Dragon! At this moment, Bloom Gaia's effect activates! When it attacks an opponent's Monster, it gains attack equal to the combined Levels of all "Melodious" Monsters on my field multiplied by 400 until the End Phase (Bloom Gaia ATK: 4000→8800)! Go, Bloom Gaia! Transcendent Nature Symphony!"

The broadsword floating next to Bloom Gaia shot forward while being surrounded by a storm of petals and musical notes and tore through Absolution Dragon's body, destroying it and generating a powerful shockwave that sent Yuya skidding backwards.

"Absolution Dragon's effect activates." Yuya declared. "When this card is destroyed, I can return all cards in my Pendulum Zones back to the hand, and then I can place this card in my Pendulum Zone."

Following Yuya's words, Hermit Crab Landlord disappeared from the Pendulum Zone, with Absolution Dragon taking its place.

"I'm not done yet, Yuya." Yuzu said. "I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card Accel Tempo, whose effect allows me to target a "Melodious" Monster that successfully destroyed an opponent's Monster by battle, in this case Bloom Gaia, and have it attack once again while increasing its attack by 1000 until my next Standby Phase (Bloom Gaia ATK: 8800→9800). As such, Bloom Gaia will attack you directly, Yuya!"

"That won't work!" Yuya shouted. "I activate Absolution Dragon's Pendulum Effect! Once per turn, when I'm about to receive damage, I can destroy this card to reduce that damage to 0!"

Following Yuya's words, Absolution Dragon vanished from the Pendulum Zone as a golden barrier appeared around him, deflecting Bloom Gaia's blade.

"Well played, Yuya." Yuzu said with a smile. "To think you would endure Bloom Gaia's attack under such circumstances… However, it will all be useless if you can't turn this situation around. I end my turn, with Bloom Gaia's attack-increasing effect ending as well (Bloom Gaia ATK: 9800→5000)."

"It's my turn!" Yuya announced. "Draw! Now then, while this has been fun, it's time for the grand finale."

"You seem confident." Yuzu remarked. "You have a way to destroy Bloom Gaia with only two cards in your hand?"

"It's true this situation is pretty bleak." Yuya admitted. "If it was the old me, I might have despaired and lost my will to fight. However, I've made my resolve. No matter how low the odds or how desperate the situation is, I will keep fighting. After all, I made a promise."

"That's a nice expression you have there, Yuya." Yuzu smiled. "Then, come at me while holding nothing back!"

"You got it!" Yuya said. "I activate the Spell Card Entermate Cast Change! Through its effect, I can shuffle as many "Entermate" Monsters as I wish from my hand back to my Deck and draw cards from my Deck equal to the number of returned cards plus one! I will shuffle Entermate Hermit Crab Landlord in my hand back to the Deck in order to draw two cards!"

Upon drawing and checking his two cards, Yuya let out a small smile.

"Looks like my Deck has responded to my resolve." Yuya said. "Using the Scale 1 Stargazer Magician (ATK: 1200/DEF: 2400/LV: 5/SC: 1) and the Scale 8 Timegazer Magician (ATK: 1200/DEF: 600/LV: 3/SC: 8), I Set the Pendulum Scale once again!"

The two columns of light appeared once again on Yuya's field, with his two Monsters rising to their top.

"Now I can simultaneously summon Monsters with Levels 2 through 7." Yuya declared. "Pendulum Summon! Revive from the Extra Deck, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"

A single beam of light erupted from the Pendulum portal, solidifying into the form of Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon.

When an "Odd-Eyes" Monster on my field battles an opponent's Monster, I can banish this card from my Graveyard to increase that Monster's attack by an amount equal to the original attack of the Monster that was targeted by Odd-Eyes Consecration's first effect! Therefore, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon gains Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon's attack of 3000 (Odd-Eyes ATK: 2500→5500)!"

"An attack of 5500!" Yoko remarked with evident fervor. "Now it's stronger than Bloom Gaia!"

"Go, Odd-Eyes!" Yuya shouted. "Spiral Strike Burst!"

A torrent of crimson energy erupted from Odd-Eyes' maw, heading straight for Bloom Gaia.

"At this moment, Odd-Eyes' effect activates!" Yuya continued. "When it battles a Level 5 or higher Monster, the battle damage is doubled! Reaction Force!"

The gems on Odd-Eyes' body lit up as the energy blast grew in size, enveloping Bloom Gaia and vaporizing it, with Yuzu being sent skidding backwards due to the ensuing shockwave and falling on her knees.

[It's over!] Melissa exclaimed. [The match is over! The victor after an intense back-and-forth is Sakaki Yuya! While I'm bummed that Yuzu-chan lost, she showed us an excellent fight once again!]

[With this, the quarterfinal round has come to its conclusion!] Nico announced. [The four Duelists that will vie for a spot in the final round are Sakaki Yuya, Yuto, Tachibana Yukio and Yuri! I don't know about you, everyone, but I'm expecting some top-tier Duels no matter who gets paired up with who!]

"So, Yuzu lost…" Shuzo sighed, but then smiled. "However, she fought her hardest and I'm sure she enjoyed fighting against Yuya. That's what's important."

"That's right." Yoko said. "Our children have grown up so fast. It makes me feel so old."

"Congratulations, Yuya." Yuzu said after getting up. "That was a great match. Heh, I guess I need to increase my training if I don't want to fall behind."

"Mhm…"

That was the only sound Yuya could make. Although he thought he had steeled his resolve to make his feelings known after the battle, he couldn't get those important words he wanted to say to Yuzu out. Nervousness and fear of rejection were holding him back, to the point where he felt someone was constricting his throat.

"Are you alright, Yuya?" Yuzu asked with a concerned expression. "You're looking a little pale there."

"It…it's nothing…"

"If you say so." Yuzu didn't seem convinced, but the sound of the approaching hoverplane distracted her. "Looks like it's about time I take my leave. You'd better do your best and properly represent You Show Duel School, Yuya. Anything less and you're getting smacked."

"Yes…"

That was all Yuya could say as Yuzu started walking away. Seeing this, Yugo groaned.

"Come on, Yuya! Weren't you the one who told me to believe in myself and take a step forward!? Follow your own advice and don't chicken out here!"

"Don't let her get away, Yuya." Yuto said. "The more you push this back, the more difficult it will be to confess down the line."

At the same time, Reiji, who was watching the events unfold, opened a line to the broadcasting department.

"It's me. Cut the feed from the Ancient Ruins area."

"Brother?" Reira directed a confused look at Reiji. "What are you doing?"

"Just giving Yuya some privacy and hopefully an incentive to move." Reiji said as he typed a message on his Duel Disk, sending it to Yuya. "A man's once-in-a-lifetime determination isn't some sort of spectacle to gawk at."

"I don't understand…"

"Don't worry." Reiji smiled as he patted his younger brother's head. "One day, you will."

[Ara, it seems we're having some technical difficulties in the Ancient Ruins area.] Melissa said. [We've been informed that the problem will be fixed soon and the feed will be restored, so be patient, everyone.]

"The feed is down…?"

Yuya muttered. At that time, a notification that he had received a message showed up in his Duel Disk. Much to Yuya's bewilderment, it had been sent from Reiji, with only the words [Do your best] written on it.

"Looks like I can't afford to act weak when even Reiji's going out of his way to help me…"

Yuya muttered with a smile and ran after Yuzu. Fortunately for him, the hoverplane had landed a fair distance away from the place they had fought, so he caught up with her just as she was about to board.

"Yuzu!"

"Yuya?" Yuzu frowned upon seeing Yuya running towards her, a frantic expression on her face. "What's the matter? Is something wrong?"

"I made it in time…" Yuya wheezed out, taking a moment to catch his breath before turning to Yuzu. "Sorry about this, but I needed to speak with you."

"Was it so urgent that it couldn't wait for after the tournament?"

"Yes." Yuya said. "Yuzu…when my father disappeared and everyone ridiculed him as a coward, I was only able to keep it together because you and Gongenzaka were there for me, especially you. Whenever I was feeling down or depressed…you would always be by my side, cheering me on or egging me forward."

"It's a given I would." Yuzu said. "We've been together for so long that we're practically family."

"Family…" Yuya muttered. "That's why I thought I was being so frantic when I lost you during the Maiami Championship. Anyone would be in distress if they had lost a family member. But then…I realized that wasn't it."

"Eh? What are you saying, Yuya?"

Yuya took a deep breath, steeling himself.

"Yuzu…you're more important to me than a friend or a family member. I…I like you and want to be together with you always from now on!"

Silence ensued for several seconds following Yuya's confession. But then…

"Yuya, you…big idiot!"

With a lightning-fast move, Yuzu pulled out her paper fan and slapped Yuya with it, sending him flying.

"OK…" Reiji muttered. "I didn't expect that."

"Why…?"

Yuya groaned as he collapsed to the ground.

"You have to ask!?" Yuzu pointed at Yuya, an indignant expression on her face. "Think about the mood a bit first! What girl would enjoy being confessed by the guy that just beat her!? Plus, there's a proper time and place for this! You think I wanted to be confessed to in the midst of these dusty ruins!? Honestly, you're seriously lacking in delicacy, Yuya!"

"I couldn't wait any longer!" Yuya exclaimed as he stood up. "If I did, some other guy might have made a move on you! I…I just couldn't bear the thought of losing you!"

"As if that would happen…" Yuzu murmured with a low voice as she turned to board the hoverplane. "In any case, I'll let this slide. However, I expect you to plan our first date a bit better than that."

The hoverplane took off, with Yuya gaping at it as his mind tried to process what had just happened.

"Does that mean it's a yes!?"

Yuya screamed at the receding hoverplane. Of course, no response came back. Inside the hoverplane, the pilot turned to Yuzu, a curious expression on his face.

"Did something good happen, miss? You look awfully happy."

"You could say that." Yuzu responded, a wide smile on her face and a healthy blush on her cheeks. "Fufu~."

"Brrrrr." Shuzo felt a chill going down his back. "Why do I suddenly feel like my life is going to get even more stressful?"

[Apologies for the wait, everyone!] Nico's voice echoed across the stadium. [It seems the issues with the feed have been fixed, which means it's time to reveal the details of the next round!]

[Unlike before, where our Duelists could select their opponent to a degree, the matchups for the semifinal round have already been decided!] Melissa continued. [Here are the pairs that will compete for the right to participate in the final round, folks!]

The giant screens inside the stadium and the ones spread across the city lit up at the same time, displaying the pairs.

[For the first round, it's Tachibana Yukio versus Yuri, while Sakaki Yuya will be facing Yuto in the second round!] Nico announced. [Looks like we can expect some high-level matches, everyone!]

"Heh, so I'll be facing Yukio again?" Yuri smirked. "I wanted to have a rematch with Yuya, but this isn't too bad either."

"Awesome!" Yukio grinned as he bumped his fists together. "I was waiting for a chance to settle the score from back then! You're going down this time, Yuri!"

"Yuya and I will be fighting." Yuto remarked. "Having shared a body for a brief amount to time, I can't help but feel this is fate."

"Did she accept my confession or not…?" Yuya muttered while biting his fingernails. "She said she wanted a date, but should I take this as a definite yes or as a 'we'll see'? Tch, why did you have to leave me hanging like that, Yuzu…? No, no, it's not the time for that. I must focus on the next round for now."

[There will be a thirty-minute break until the start of the semifinal round.] Melissa said. [Until then, Duelists can take a breather and make the final adjustments to their Decks. Good luck strategizing, everyone!]

This time, he was able to win against him unlike last time, where he could only manage a draw with Ruri. The second match was Yuya versus Yuzu, another rematch that was a long time coming. Both of them fought well, but in the end, Yuya was the victor.

I also went ahead and revealed the pairings for the semifinal round since most of you had already figured them out. No sense in keeping them hidden. Unlike the chapters so far, each chapter in the semifinal round will only feature one Duel, so they should come out a bit sooner. No promises though.
