Months went by after the great war between the witches of Terre Sapphique and the army of Mildred Berger, the rumors about the victory of the lesbians and the defeat of the council witches slowly spread, even more so among the other villages that were created, encouraging the more still to continue their growth. Since they discovered that together they could be stronger than any law or restriction against lesbian witches.
Victoria visited Caroline in the meantime, even giving one of the fertility stones to Julia, who waited a while to be able to use it and have her daughter, McLaren asked for more than one in the case, because that way she would guarantee two offspring and make daughters with both Natalie and Heather, without using both together, since she suspected it was due to incest that Caroline's manufacturing ended up being defective.
She used the first one with Natalie who she believed had stronger genes to pass on, using the stone at the end of the year 1758, but this time it was not at one of Julia McLaren's typical extravagant orgies, she decided to do something more private with Tyrrell, to ensure as much perfection as possible for the creation of the future Scarlet, who the redhead had every faith would be the perfect daughter for her. That she would be compatible with magic and would not be like her other daughter to whom she never gave attention and love for not being so compatible with magic.
Victoria and Esther didn't miss any visits to little Caroline, who also little by little noticed how the older McLaren was getting a bigger belly, signaling that she was pregnant with Hope McLaren. The Williams McLaren couple treated the little girl with much love and affection, to the point that she loved the few monthly visits, waiting day by day for them to come.
The year 1759 began and had no drastic change regarding lowering the restriction laws, but it was marked, by the fact that Mildred had no authority at all, many witches started to be saved, they did not suffer anything during the imprisonment, since it had the supervision of Harriet and Freya, little by little irritating Berger more and more, but she had no way to turn against it, the magic power she had was even enough to rejuvenate, but it would leave her practically without magic.
Diana was also showing the signs of her pregnancy, little by little her belly was growing, only much more than Victoria, which was very strange, Maria even thought that Cavendish was eating more than recommended, which was partially true, but the green-haired girl also said that she felt hungrier than in any other pregnancy.
Maria was about to start her career in the World Broom Racing Championship, after testing in the winter, she was confirmed to race for Scuderia Meridies, with a £100,000 contract for the 1759 season, it wasn't a huge contract, but it had already caught the attention of Du Nord, as well as the other teams that wanted to get the girl to race 6 years ago. The first race would be the British GP at Whittlebury, opening the season. For the first time in years Maria and Diana were not together all the time, this time Cavendish had to stay in Terre Sapphique to watch her girlfriend race.
The 1759 season would have 11 races, and only the seven best results count as championship points, having to discard the five worst, the order of the points did not change much, being that it was 9-6-5-4-3-2-1. The order of events was, England (14/04/1759), Salem (12/05/1759), France (09/06/1759), Florence (23/06/1759), Ireland (04/08/1759), Sweden (18/08/1759), Holland (01/09/1759), Scotland (15/09/1759), Spain (20/10/1759), Portugal (27/10/1759) and the final in the Holy Roman Empire (24/11/1759).
April 14, 1759, comes race day after qualifying day, where Mary managed to place her broom in fifth position, which was already impressive, for a first time racer with a broom in a qualifying system that focused on 30 minutes of the runners trying for the best time, Du Nord even managed to get a clean lap in that time, which opened up a lot for the previous year's champion to get pole position.
Diana calls the children to watch with her, as well as the girls of the house who will see Maria's first time in a competition of that size. This race was commented by Vivian Carlton, a very renowned commentator who took the place of Harriet and Freya who had been commentating races for over 100 years.
- Ladies and gentlemen! Witches and magical creatures! We are here to kick off the 1759 World Broom Racing Championship season! We have newcomers! We've got newcomers! We've got championship contests! Can Valerie Hill make it two championships in a row! This pole position leaves her with a great chance to win the first race of the year and lock up the 9 points! Or will Louise Cevert go for the title! This time she left Lavoiette and passed the top team Scuderia Carlucci! We also have a big surprise, Scuderia Meridies has put a broom in the Top 5 by betting on the Scottish rookie Maria Du Nord! We don't know where she came from, but we have reports that in the broom relay at the Luna Nova academy, the girl destroyed the competition! But is that enough to put her in a fifth position and on top of that be a Scuderia Meridies bet? Swapping Valkrye Hofferson for the young Scot seems a bit risky, especially since she is also in the lead at Scuderia Carlucci!
Says Vivian.
The witches were getting their brooms ready for the race, ready to start, all that was left to do was put the finishing touches, the grid had 22 runners, the top 5 consisted of Valerie Hill (8) (England) (Collins Brooms), Louise Cevert (12) (France) (Scuderia Carlucci), Jessica Albrechtberger (75) (Hamburg) (BRTM), Valkrye Hofferson (7) (Sweden) (Scuderia Carlucci), Maria Du Nord (89) (Scotland) (Scuderia Meridies). Collins Brooms' brooms were green and yellow, Scuderia Carlucci's were mostly red and with some black details, BRTM's were green with orange details, and Scuderia Meridies' was dark blue with some white details. The SM759 had a lot of help from Maria in the build, with Du Nord giving a lot of ideas on how to make a broom that was fast enough, so much so that it took the team out of the middle of the pack just on the redhead's amazing rating.
The witches soon leave the track and go to the pits, the brooms were already prepared to start from there, the runners were already warming up the broom's magic orbs by speeding up and causing a loud, shrill sound from the orbs that could be heard from a distance. A witch appears with the green flag and soon signals the start.
- They will! The start of the World Broom Racing Championship! Here we are starting... Maria! Maria Du Nord! The Scottish girl has taken the lead! That's fantastic! What an incredible peformance! This newcomer is really proving to be the shocker she was in 1753!
Says Vivian.
Maria has the best reaction at the start, because of this she passes Valkrye on acceleration and soon finds a space to pass Louise and Jessica, who didn't have such a good start, making it to the first corner, where she brakes later and this causes Valerie to have to spread out a bit on the corner, which left the Du Nord in the lead of the race right from the first corner.
In the central square of Terre Sapphique, there was a huge canvas projecting the whole race for the whole town to see, and there was the biggest celebration and party when they saw that Maria took the lead in a few seconds right at the first turn. Shouts of celebration, fireworks, shots in the air, everything to celebrate that Du Nord was leading the first race.
At the second corner of the circuit, Maria continued with her incredible driving, as she passed almost scraping the wall, but at the same time Du Nord's driving seemed very smooth, only that none of the others behind her could repeat the same speed and precision in the turns, it was evident how the redhead was on a very high level.
- Woah! This is amazing! We are only in the first seconds of the race and Maria Du Nord is already in the lead! This Scottish girl is fast!
Says Vivian.
Lap 1 of 75, Maria finished the lap in the lead opening about 4 seconds in the very first lap, not even leaving any space for the other runners, the audience was in shock, never before had a newcomer, even more a newcomer from Scotland done so well, the audience was largely English and they had a great rivalry for the Scottish witches.
- Maria Du Nord, is strolling down the runway! She shows no concern for anyone coming behind, as if she knew no one was going to get to her!
Says Vivian.
At the Du Nord family residence, Diana jumped for joy when she saw Mary in front, as did her daughters who were celebrating with their mother, always repeating their mother's name, and were happy to recognize the redhead who was wearing a white witch's hat with some lines that resembled the fabric of a Kilt as a way to represent Scotland, as well as red hair that was short again, as Mary found it better and lighter to run.
- Mom is winning!
Joan says.
- Mom is going to win!
Sarah says.
- Go Maria! Go Maria! Go Maria! Go Maria! You can do it my love! You are making these girls proud, and our Cecilia too!
Diana says.
Lap 10 of 75, within 10 laps Maria was proving to be superior in every way, she took every turn perfectly, smoothly, no other racer was catching her, the strangest thing, was the fact that Francesca Gucci, Maria's teammate, was battling for tenth place, while Du Nord was leading by a wide margin.
- Maria Du Nord! What to talk about this girl! She is destroying on her broom! This girl is a flying Scot! Her skill is ridiculous! Never before have we seen such a skilled runner from Scotland leading like this! It's been 81 years since she last led a race!
Says Vivian.
Lap 20 of 75, Maria was still leading, she was lapping by that point even the witch who was in fifth position, which was getting the audience more and more shocked, to the point that many people stood up and started clapping the moment Du Nord reached the main straight. Which was eventually shown on the screen.
- The largely English audience stands up to applaud the flying Scot! How incredible! Now that is a huge show of respect for our Scottish neighbors! The Scottish people are having a witch to represent their nation! Her name is Maria Du Nord!
Says Vivian.
Lap 50 of 75, two thirds of the race had passed, Maria was going at an incredible speed, on her very first run she even took a lap on the leader, she was even about to take a second lap on her, this with a broom considered inferior, showing everyone what a spectacular witch she was on the broom, the race in the other positions was also very intense. Louise and Valerie constantly fought for second place, which sometimes put on show the dispute of the two witches.
- It's been 50 laps and Maria Du Nord is still on fire, taking out fastest lap after fastest lap, will the flying Scot break the track record in the race? This is spectacular! This girl has surprised everyone!
Says Vivian.
Lap 55 of 75, Maria soon arrives in Louise and Valerie who were fighting for positions and passes through the middle of the two in a curve, which leaves the audience open-mouthed with that risky overtaking and extreme skill, almost that the three ended up colliding, but who came out on top was Du Nord.
- Woah! Woah! Woah! The flying Scot did it! How magnificent! She is a runner of an extremely high level! What an overtake! That's because she's not competing for the lead in the race! Maria Du Nord is the name of this amazing Scot!
Says Vivian.
After that overtake the crowd rose from the stands as Maria passed to complete lap number 56, everyone clapped as Du Nord passed, even those who were rooting for Valerie Hill showed respect for the redhead who was showing off her extreme skill.
In Terre Sapphique the party couldn't be any other, the whole village was jumping, dancing, drinking, playing music, all in celebration of Maria who had huge chances to win her first race, in her first year, in the first race of her career, racing for the first time on a racing broomstick officially.
- Maria! Maria! Maria! Maria! Maria! Maria!
The inhabitants of Terre Sapphique say.
Lap 65 of 75, there were 10 laps to go until something started to happen, a rain that was not expected at all, it was a real storm that appeared suddenly, wetting the whole track, besides the fog that was accompanying it, even so Maria kept running at the same pace.
Lap 68 of 75, the rain thickened more and more, Valerie Hill ended up spinning, hit a hay barrier and lost the first position, besides having to abandon the race, Louise was the one who was in second position, she held with difficulty the broom, even more so because the track was wet and in some parts had fog. This blurred her vision even more. Maria continued at a strong pace, and with each lap she was even more admired by the audience.
- Not even the rain! This extremely dangerous rain! It's stopping Maria Du Nord, she runs as if she were dry! What an incredible witch!
Says Vivian.
Lap 70 of 75, Diana gave another lap to the second placed, this time it was 3 laps ahead, Louise was finding it difficult to control the broom, but there was a witch who was in eighth position on lap 66 that began to surprise, climbing little by little the pack, it was Francesca Gucci, with an inferior broom, she showed her ability in the wet, by that lap she was already in sixth position, and managed a little faster than the others, except for Maria who swallowed the track easily.
Lap 73 of 75, Maria was on fire, even on the wet track she set the best time in history on a wet track on the circuit, and also set a time almost equivalent to what the middle runners set in dry weather.
- Maria Du Nord! Simply Maria Du Nord! The Flying Scot! She is not intimidated by the rain! This is an exceptional runner! How magnificent!
Says Vivian.
Lap 75 of 75, Maria Du Nord crosses the finish line, she was the only one on the last lap of the race, Louise Cevert crosses in second position three laps behind and Francesca Gucci gets the first podium of her career finishing in third position, four laps behind Maria.
- The Flying Scot! Maria Du Nord Brabham! That is the name of the future champion! How incredible! This girl is a natural! In the first race of the year! The first of her career! Maria is already winning! Scotland celebrates a victory like this!
Says Vivian.
The town of Terre Sapphique celebrates with all the excitement in the world, shots were fired from above, fireworks too, the whole town was shouting Maria's name, bugles were blowing, it was a huge euphoria in the small village for the girl.
At the Du Nord family residence, the girls, along with Diana, were celebrating Maria's victory; Cavendish was even excited, full of happiness; Victoria, who was there with them, jumped with fright when the Du Nord crossed the finish line in first position.
- Maria did it! My girlfriend is the winner! She is very amazing!
Diana says.
- Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!
The children say.
After the race is over, Maria goes to the podium celebration ceremony, taking the highest place, Louise and Francesca also join Du Nord, the trophies are handed to the girls, the gold one going to the redhead, who had a witch riding a broom made of gold. A witch takes a magic picture that consisted of drawing a picture in an instant of the three rising in the top three positions.
After the podium ceremony is over, all questions in the interview go to Maria who just says that she was running without going all out, with the intention of preserving the broom without breaking and that she would be able to put even more on the limit of the broom, she also said that she loves running in the rain, because the broom slips more and goes according to the way she wants to go around the circuit, she also says about the race she did in Luna Nova and how that got attention. After all questions answered, Du Nord leaves back to Terre Sapphique, waving to the people on the circuit.
As soon as she arrived, Maria was well received by the whole town, who immediately began to shout Du Nord's name and welcome the girl, celebrating the redhead's first victory. She was all red and dull with all the warm reception she had received, to the point of being lifted up by the crowd.
- Maria! Maria! Maria! Maria!
The inhabitants of Terre Sapphique say.
The city girls take Maria to her house, where she is received with a hug followed by a kiss from Diana, and then they leave the couple and continue the celebration in honor of Du Nord, who was still very blushing and embarrassed by the warm reception.
See you, Broom Racers...
