Tyson's curly hair sat wildly behind him as he stared up at the lights in the hospital, his expression a bit blank, and a small hum escaping from his lips.
"Are you nervous or something?" I looked at him but he kept looking up at the ceiling.
"Nope," he said. "I'm actually worried. That's a better word: worried. Worried, worried, fucking worried."
"Are you worried that the doctor is going to tell you that you have to take a break from wrestling?"
"Wrestling is important to me but I want to chase the kids around the park, Tia. I want to be able to dance with you in the middle of the living room or even in the middle of Antarctica. I want to just...not be confined to the couch again and lash out at you because of me being angry about not being able to do for myself. I want to be able to do things by myself."
"Tyson, don't think because you get help that you're...I don't know...not capable of doing anything if you have to rest. Don't let your pride get in the way of getting help, especially from your own wife."
"No, I won't be prideful again but I just hate being hurt."
"Understandable. You'll be okay and I'm right here."
A doctor came out to the waiting room to call out for Tyson and he slowly got up, grabbed my hand, and walked with me to where the doctor was waiting for us.
I silently prayed to myself that the news wasn't going to be too bad about his knee and that all he needed to do was rest it.
My prayers were indeed answered when the doctor told Tyson that he would need to take some time off from wrestling to heal his knee properly. I told my husband that if he needed to sit down and relax, I wasn't going to hear any if, ands or buts about it. And if he even thought about getting smart with me, I'd whoop his ass myself. Tyson promised me that he wouldn't be a dick towards me like he was last time but did request that I make him a nice banana split to eat, to which I said yes.
We got back to my parents house to pick up the kids and pack up our luggage as we were now going to go to our cabin. I told my mom and dad that I would be back to visit them before I left and had to convince my mother that I would indeed call her when I got home.
It was nice and quiet as I sat outside on the patio that I had missed dearly. I took a sip of my lemon tea while watching Tyson chase the kids around the cabin multiple times and I eventually ended up losing count because it seemed like they would never stop. Eventually, Tyson brought the kids back into the backyard and let them play with their toys so he could sit down next to me. He plopped down on the step in front of me, leaned his head back into my lap, and looked up at me with eyes that basically told me he was up to some shit.
"What is it?" I asked.
"I'm hungry," he said.
"What do you want me to do about it?" I responded.
"I want you to feed me."
"You can feed yourself."
"Boo!"
"Shrimp Alfredo for tonight," I said.
"Good, good. I'm glad that we stopped by the store before coming here."
"I bet you did!"
"I'll help you cook, babe. Also: in about a day or so, we will have a visitor and I know you remember him. He used to take us to the zoo and other places during the weekends and whenever we had breaks from school."
It took me a minute to figure out who he was talking about because both of us have family members who took us out to many places when we were kids. I kept thinking but couldn't come up with anyone.
"You're gonna have to give me a hint," I said.
"Okay: he took us to the movies to see Independence Day and then bought us books on aliens."
"Oh my gosh: Uncle Don?"
"YES!"
"Oh lord…"
"What's wrong?"
"No offense but your Uncle Don is a bit…..out there. Very out there."
"I know he is but he's an awesome uncle! I want him to meet the kids as well and it'll be great to catch up."
"Well, we are here to meet up with family members and your uncle is pretty cool...as long as he doesn't bring up any weird conspiracies."
"I promise he won't talk about conspiracy theories too much," Tyson joked. "Are you enjoying yourself so far during this time back home?"
"I am. It's nice to not have to travel too far to come back here to visit everyone."
"Can you scratch my head, please?"
"Yes." I say my cup down so my hands could be free to massage my husband's big ass head.
Yes, he has a big ass head.
Kids were finally asleep which meant I could start washing their clothes along with some towels. As the clothes washed, I went into the kitchen to make Tyson a banana split and added extra bananas into it. Because he was watching t.v., he didn't notice what I was doing in the kitchen until he saw the bowl that I had in my hand when I presented it to him.
"Ah! Thank you! Come join me here on the couch so we can eat this thing," he said.
"Okay," I said. "Don't make me lose track of time because I'm washing the children's clothes. I'm only doing one load of laundry tonight because I am tired."
"I'll stay up and finish the rest of it," Tyson said.
"I'd appreciate it."
I sat beside him and took the first bite of the split.
"Tomorrow I'm going to call Uncle Don and see what time he's going to arrive. I think he said Thursday."
"Is he going to stay here?"
"No, he's going to stay at a hotel. I did text him today and he said that he cannot wait to see us again."
"I'm excited to see him again as well but he better not start with his conspiracy theories!"
"He won't!"
"He better not…"
"Oh, a little conspiracy theory never hurt nobody."
"Yeah, you're right." I let out a chuckle then took another bite of ice cream.
"Everything will be okay," Tyson said. "Everyone has an eccentric uncle in their life."
"Facts," I said. "I need a good laugh."
"You don't think I'm funny?"
"Nope!"
"Ha ha! This float is great."
"Thank you."
"No problem."
We devoured the treat to the last drop then headed to our room to go to bed. Tyson finished doing the laundry for me and finally laid beside me in bed. Soon, I heard his soft snores in the dark.
I laid my head on top of his chest to hear his heart pumping which helped me fall asleep instantly while I felt safe in his arms.
My big human teddy bear.
