Rory has truly enjoyed the brunch. It felt like old times. She finds herself alone with Matthew as Jess and Tess take their bags up to the guest room. Connie and Chris headed home with a swing to the grocery store before they have to hunker down at Locust St. They do not want to leave Matthew alone with his vices but they relent given the need to get some supplies. "You staying tonight?" Rory offers a softball into the awkward conversation both know that they are going to have. "Haven't decided yet, did Maj head to the Hamptons?" Rory nods. "Last night, she wants to spend some time with Finn." Matthew smiles that little boy smile that Rory has grown to like. "Finn is a good guy." Rory nods in agreement. "He is, they are kind of a unique pairing, to say the least."

Matthew decides that the buffer to the conversation with Rory may be actually sharing the story of Finn and Maj. "Finn was really there for Maj after Mark died." Maj had never spoken of her past which makes this particular story all the more intriguing. Finn always had a sweetness to him, perhaps that side was always there. Rory contemplates her own history with Finn. A particular moment springs from her memory banks from her early days with Logan. The last hoorah of the Life and Death Brigade that nearly ended Logan's life. Colin and Finn did get Logan off of those cliffs, they got him medical care and had him transported back to the US. At the time she was so angry with them, she was angry at Logan for getting hurt that she lashed out at all of them perhaps that is what she is doing now too.

Matthew offers a brief history of Maj and Finn in the aftermath of the tragedy of her fiance's death. Rory is actually touched by the amusing story of Finn fetching Majs for an adventure. The smiles and laughter have eased them into the conversation that they need to have. Rory is surprised that Matthew brings up the topic. "Rory, what happened the other, it's cool. We were both lonely, we both needed it." Matthew's eyes drop to the table. "Matthew, you don't know how much I needed that, really needed that. You made me feel beautiful and I have not felt that way in so very long. Thank you sounds completely corny but thank you."

Rory's words actually make Matthew smile. "But Matt, I like you, I consider you a friend. I don't want to lose that." Rory adds to lay down some boundaries for both of them. In a lot of ways, Matthew was her Finn. Lately, when she needed something, Matt has been there for her. "We are cool, Rory, all good." Matthew's answer is graciously delivered. The talk with his brother set his head straight. Everyone around him is coupling and he is feeling a bit left out and alone. Even Jess has stumbled upon someone. Rory gets up to refresh their coffees. Tess and Jess circle into the kitchen to see what is going on and Jess actually wanted to check on Matthew.

"You staying?" Jess taps Matt on the shoulder. Tess offers as she motions towards the living room. "We are about to binge Schitt's Creek. The show is hilarious. Come join." Jess begins to rummage through the cabinets in search of snacks for the marathon. Matt swags his head toward the living room. "You will enjoy the show, come on." The weight of the Matthew problem has lifted from her shoulders, now she just has to figure out what to do with Logan. They head into the living room to enjoy the binge. To her surprise, Tess does not hang on to Jess so the situation is not awkward nor requiring this to be two couples. Rory realizes this must be how Maj navigates her world. Tess has the same air of confidence that does not require stroking. What Maj had said to her rises in her mind. She needs her mojo back. She is only pregnant, this is a temporary condition. The child will be part of her lifetime but, this is only temporary and she is most of the way through it.

She had viewed Logan's marriage as an ending point, for lack of a better description, a finish line. In reality, the only finish line is the arrival of the baby and that is not an ending, it is a beginning. She was pissed at Maj for offering an ultimatum but Maj, Jess, and even Finn were honest enough to tell her what she needed to hear.

As the trio dives deeper into the show, Rory feigns being tired, heading to her room. She takes a comfortable position on the bed as she pulls out her phone to call her mother. It has been a while since she had a heart-to-heart with her mom. Lorelai is thrilled to get a call from Rory with her sounding like her Rory. She is hesitant to ask if Logan is there. The context of the conversation seems to indicate that she is with Jess and the normal cast of characters who surround the house she is staying at. Lorelai has been worried for Rory being this far into her pregnancy and that far away from home. She is happy to hear Rory mention that Jess is staying at Maj's house with her. Rory fails to mention some key details that are better left out of her mother's creative imagination. After about an hour of conversation, Rory slips beneath the covers for a good night's rest.

Tess and Matt share an active and engaging conversation about the show. Jess is thrilled to see Matt and Tess bond. It has not been long but Jess has a feeling about his woman. Could he be so lucky to randomly find the missing piece? True to his nature, he has searched for a flaw, a reason to not keep moving forward, and has yet to find it. Maj always joked, normally in response to Matt losing his glasses. When you need to find something, stop looking for it.

Having stayed up to a truly ridiculous hour, they all head to bed with Matt deciding to sleep in Maj's room. As he slips beneath the covers, his mind flashes to a few days before. He acknowledges it and then lets it go heeding Max's advice. Matt cuddles into the blankets taking in the familiar Lavender scent of the fabric softener that their mother always used on their clothes. Maj uses it to remember the comfort of a lost time and Matt is quite ready to get lost in it. He may have been too young to really remember but he knows the meaning and that is enough.
