Hello everyone! Welcome to chapter 89 of Sparks Ignite! I'm back (again)! I know chapters have been spotty as of late. I've really been struggling to find time to write. But I'm hopefully back to keep going with this story! As always, I do not own avatar or its characters, but the story is my own. Onto the story!

Fate and Destiny are a funny thing. They are so permanent, but yet can be changed by the smallest thing. It can cause the moon and the sun to collide. Or the most opposite Sparks to Ignite.

Chapter 89: The Dance Through the Fog

Within moments, the room filled to the brim with steam.

Fire and Water clashed together to create a fog that filled the room. The two were drenched with sweat, making their bodies slick and shine slightly through the mist.

Neither of them aimed to maim, or seriously injure. Even though, they both knew that the other could take it. They were both masters in their element, even if they both refused to admit it. Instead, it was almost a dance through the fog, fire and water colliding and making something more magical than anything else.

The two didn't know that Ursa watched above from the viewing deck, scanning her eyes through the steam to find the two, almost working together instead of against each other, as any other duel would normally be.

Ikem walked up behind her, putting a hand on her shoulder, "Ursa…" he called her name. But she was silent, her eyes fixed on the mist below.

"We knew that the boy may not be as accepted right away…" he told her, "We knew it would take time…"

Ursa was still quiet, watching below. She didn't have any words to say, or anything to respond. She had so many expectations when she came back, and some of those were better than she ever imagined. But she never expected the challenges of joining two families. She never expected to find two strangers with the older faces of her children when she returned.

Ikem took her hand, "Come… why don't you lie down?"

Ursa sighed, taking one last long look below before nodding and following her husband, hoping that she could fall asleep and when she awoke, her life would magically fix all of her problems.

Zuko sent a blast to Katara's right and she dodged it to the left. Katara sent a whip towards his face, and he rolled beneath it, the water grazing the top of his head but doing no damage other then getting his hair wet.

He sent a firey fist up towards her, but she sent a ball of water back towards it, sending another blast of steam into the already steam filled room.

Katara sent out a water whip towards his chest which he immediately blocked. But what he didn't realize that it was a distraction as she sent another towards his feet and wrapped around his ankles.

She pulled it forward, making him lose his balance. He wobbled trying to get his right footing, but instead of what they both intended, he fell forward, falling into Katara and taking her down with him.

He saw what was happening before it happened. He quickly flipped them, so he wouldn't take the brunt of his weight. Instead, he landed flat on his back with Katara laying directly on top of him.

They laid there together, both covered in their own sweat, staring into each other's eyes.

Zuko tried not to think about the fact that Katara was on top of him, something he pictured when he was by himself in his room. But the thought traveled south, and he cleared his throat, just hoping she would stand up before he noticed.

Katara was just as out of breath, "Thank you…"

Zuko raised an eyebrow, "For?" he asked her. She shrugged a little, "For not crushing me… are you alright?" she asked him.

He chuckled and shrugged, "My ribs might be crushed but I'll live"

Katara giggled and shimmed off of him. As she got up, she noticed his bodily reaction, but she thought it was probably best to just ignore it. She knew from working on many men during the war that it was natural, and not something they could control. It was nothing out of the ordinary. And she had to admit herself, they were just in quite the steamy situation. But her culture had trained her to not think those things.

"So will you talk to me now?" she spoke as she sat down next to him.

Zuko sighed, he did feel more comfortable now that it was just the two of them.

"Ikem is bothering you?" Katara asked him, "If anyone knows what that's like, it's me"

He looked away, thinking for a moment, "I don't like he gets to walk into my life like its nothing" he began, "I lost my mother for almost 8 years and he got her for all that time…"

Katara watched him, and listened, letting him come to terms with his feelings.

"All that time, even after the war had ended and my father was taken down, he never once tried to bring her back to me…" he had a look of disdain but also hurt written on his face, "He had every intention of keeping her to himself and I would never see her again"

"How can someone just be okay with that? A mother being away from her two kids that need her?" he thought out loud, trying to come up with a reason in his mind.

Katara sighed, "Maybe he thought that it wouldn't be possible?" she asked him. But Zuko shook his head, not accepting that excuse, "He should have tried… He could have came to me. I would have listened"

Katara placed a hand gingerly on his arm, trying to comfort him. He continued, "She has a whole new family… One that doesn't include me…"

"But she wants it to include you…" she told him, "She wants that, but it makes it a lot harder when you push her family away…"

"Like you're pushing Malina away?" he asked her, a little bit of attitude in his tone. He knew she was right, but that didn't stop him from fighting it a little bit.

Katara let out a breath, knowing this was coming, "Maybe I need to start taking my own advice…"

Zuko sighed, taking her hand and placing a delicate kiss on the back of it. They smiled at each other, as the room slowly came back into view and the steam dissipated into the air.

"Come on…" he spoke, "If we're going to see my sister, I need to make the arrangements…"

Katara nodded, making her way to her feet.

As they walked out of the fog, Zuko wanted to leave with a clear head. But his thoughts were more clouded than the steam that covered the room. He couldn't stop thinking about Ikem and his mother.

But he knew he needed to shake those thoughts and think about his sister. He needed to focus on her safety and her recovery.

He let out a breath and he felt Katara squeeze his hand a little. He didn't squeeze back, his brain too flooded with thoughts of whats to come, and the actions he needs to take.
