Day 87: In Which They Bubble
A bubble floated aimlessly in the dark, glistening with all the colors of the rainbow as it was carried by the wind. Elsa leaned against the railing, holding her head up with a hand on her chin as she continued to watch the swirling bubbles fly away.
"Kinda melancholic, don't you think?"
Jack stared at her with his straw trapped between his teeth. "What is?"
She shrugged. "The bubbles. Soaring free with nothing getting in their way."
"Yeah, except for when they pop," he countered with a snort. "Just a little bump into a tree or some wind and they're goners."
"Freedom is a fragile thing."
"You could say that one again."
Elsa hummed, a sudden tightness in her chest making her want to be closer to him. She hooked an arm with his and leaned against his shoulder. Her voice quivered when she whispered, "It's not going away any time soon, is it?"
Though her words were vague, he didn't seem to have trouble figuring out what she meant.
"I don't think so," Jack admitted, resting his cheek on top of her head.
She tried to laugh, but midway had to hide her face behind a sleeve to cover a sob. Her eyes closed as she very unsatisfactorily attempted to compose her breathing.
"Hey..." He took her hand, carefully interlacing their fingers together. His eyes locked on hers, gaze convening the thoughts neither of them was able to put into words at that moment.
Breathing in slowly, Elsa attempted another laugh. Her eyes misted, and her lips trembled, but she still managed a frail smile at him. "I'm glad you're here."
He smirked. "Where else would I be?"
Reconnecting with this story's "voice" was kinda hard. I barely recognize ATWQ as something I wrote xD. My style grew more cynical and these last chapters didn't really spark joy... Don't be surprised if I don't update anymore.
On another note, I mathed, and I know the exact date the first chapter takes place now. This last chapter was in June. Eons ago. And Anna (and now Tooth) shall remain forever pregnant.
As for what's next, I've shared with some people that I had ideas for a potential "And They Were Quarantined No More!" sequel, but I honestly don't think I have the energy to write that. If it happens, it happens, but I don't want to disappoint you guys if it doesn't.
