Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds: The Judgement of the World

Written By: Lady Lunar Phoenix

A/N: Need to remember to put this back when I finish its beta. OK So if you've read my Yugioh 'A Past and Future Pharaoh' you probably know what this is about. If not well here. See as you've noticed I use strictly english words. I don't swap out and include Japanese and so honorifics tend to be written differently in my fics. For example 'Big Brother' is 'Onii-sama' or 'big brother' is 'nii-san'. Mostly it didn't matter but now there's actually something I felt I should mention. The twins will be referring to Ryu as 'Captain' instead of 'senpai'. That's all... Enjoy the chapter.

Elation wasn't the word for the joy the twins had when they finally reached their condo. Martha had been an expectation, and her experience and warmth a comfort to the twins. But it was seeing Yusei sitting at the table with a stack of appliances that got their focus. He just sat there looking nonplus despite having been nearly taken away from them.

"Big brother Yusei?" The twins stammered as they crept further into their own home. Fearing that this was some illusion created to make them feel better. Maybe even Ancient Fairy trying to comfort them!

Yet the sound alone of the lift had gotten Yusei to turn around from his seat and he was already pushing himself to his feet. If the pair noticed the effort it took for him to do that much, they didn't care. They kicked off their shoes without a thought and flung themselves forward even as Yusei walked over to them. Tears came as the pair reached Yusei and wrapped their arms around his neck as he collapsed to the ground for them.

Their noses pressed into either side of his neck, letting them pick up on the scent of oil and old thick rough fabric and, oddly or not, roses. While he knelt there holding the pair to him and letting them just take in his presence. The relief and joy that Ruka was generating ran instantly into his own Mark. Reminding him that he was in charge of small children, and that maybe just taking wild risks was no longer possible.

Even if that 'risk' was from Aki not liking what the doctor told her and deciding to do something about it on her own!

Rua was fairly yowling like an angry puppy on Yusei's left side, wordless and distraught, while Ruka formulated words. Their worries and fears communicated just as much by what she was saying as it was via the emotions she sent to him. With the underscore sensation of the other Signers picking up on it. While Yusei tried to think of words that would comfort the distraught pair. Leaving him with just quiet, wordless, soothing sounds that he could faintly recall Martha using on him all those years ago.

"Well, the kids are home," Martha noted with an easy warmth as she stepped out of the kitchen. The smells of an easy dinner had long since filled the condo, not that the twins could notice when they were teary eyed and Yusei focused.

His disappearance from the hospital had left them distraught at home when Martha had finally reached them. Worse yet, they were handling the absence like very small 'adults'.

"Hello, its me Martha, the matron at the orphanage? Are you both home?" Martha had spoke into the video phone. Watching as a pair of kids with barely contained tears appear in the shot. 'Yusei I would ground you for a week for this stunt...' Martha thought to herself as the twins greeted her.

"Hello," Ruka voiced for the pair, while Rua took a huge sniff.

"I just left Patty's place and came to see if you both were ok, since Yusei isn't home tonight," Martha offered. Which had been Crows' request and it had actually been a pleasure to be able to sit back and enjoy an English conversation again. Talk about America, the changes that had taken place since Martha had been assigned to Japan.

"How is Patty's grandma?" Ruka asked, her voice slightly concerned but her posture relaxed as Martha smiled.

"She's ok, ladies like us don't go down that easy!" Martha confidently replied with a smile and a reassuring voice.

"Come on up! I'll unlock the doors for you," Rua replied, his voice tripping over itself as he tried to hide the crying induced hitches.

"Ok!" Martha reassuringly answered and with that she heard the door click beside her. Unlike Patty's place, this place had some pretty good security, and she had to walk a good distance in to reach the elevator system. The lobby was massive, with pillars to help support the number of floors built upon it. Clean white walls, sterile of any real 'touch', the floors were spotless as was the walls. The ceiling overhead held a field of lights to ensure that no one was just sneaking in. With not a single living soul to be found anywhere.

It was so lonely. A vastly different type of loneliness than what was found on Satellite where everyone stayed in their own territories to protect what little they had. There were scanners that she could see, but in a city that had relatively little to no violence there should have been 'more' people. Her childhood had never shown the streets of Tokyo to be empty and Domino, and later Neo Domino were also fairly active.

Granted less people meant less chances of someone grabbing a pair of on their own kids... but it also meant less people to try to 'help' said kids... There were doormats placed before the elevator for people to use, and it was large enough for vehicles, while meant to open up to various floors clearly. 'Lord save me, there are days when I'm grateful for living on Satellite. I don't know how I would handle all these upgraded ritzy things...'

Only it didn't get any better. By the time Martha had reached the twins floor she had taken one look at the spacious floor space and wondered. 'Are these even 'kids'?!'

Patty's place looked lived in, there was the occasional magazine, tv running, cups and plates, pictures hanging on the wall of the family. This place was sterile from just the door! Both children were waiting for her at the elevator, dressed remarkably clean for... well being kids. There was this creeping sense that it would take nothing to break into the condo and steal the twins.

Snuggled into a small group, it was comforting to see Yusei and the twins together. As Ruka dropped the 'adult in small body' act and reacted like how a small child 'should'. "Now once you wash up, you can have dinner."

The twins peeked around from Yusei to look up at Martha with innocent gazes, "yes, ma'am." With that they peeled themselves away from Yusei while he let them slip away. Moving back to the elevator to put up their shoes, as Yusei struggled back to his feet. Martha grabbed his forearm and helped pull him to his feet wordlessly, while giving him a side eye.

Catching sight of it, Yusei looked down with a mixture of shame and apologies, even as the world swam before his eyes. "I'll be fine Martha..."

Had she not been to the condo, Martha might have snorted in disbelief, but given how the twins lived naturally. She honestly now could believe it, they appeared so well mannered and unassuming that she no longer had concern that they would wear Yusei out. It was literally the only thing the doctors really could tell her when she went to get him. 'Let the young man have plenty of rest, fluids, and food.'

Only Yusei had appliances on his YuseiGo that were on their way to be delivered. Sure some escaped the bang up from when he wrecked his ride. But others needed to be fixed 'again' before being returned and Yusei was being down right stubborn. Case in point was the toaster that Martha could see on the dining room table. But there was an understanding between her and Yusei, she 'needed' to go back to the orphanage. She couldn't stay indifferently and he had already said it would be fine if she left in the morning.

Sure Neo Domino was safe at night, but Satellite? Even if she ran the local orphanage, Yusei worried, and Crow needed his sleep as much as anyone else.

Trotting off from the elevator, the twins fell quickly back into their normal routine, "Big brother, is Big sister really ok?" Ruka called out as she disappeared into the twins shared bedroom, school bag in tow.

"Yes, and more than likely she'll be at school again tomorrow," Yusei called out.

"You smell like her just so you know!" Rua called out cheerfully...

….

Martha raised and eyebrow, then grabbed a fist full of Yusei's jacket before the teen could flee. She leaned in and gave an investigative sniff, then another... and another... Yusei could see her eyebrows going up and this smirk forming on her face...

"We did nothing..."

"When's the first grandkids?"

The next morning as Martha was working her way back to her home on Satellite, the limo pulled in again onto the school grounds. Causing a good number of students to stop and stare. Mostly in idle curiosity, but for some the genuine concern in the return of their currently wayward classmate. The sky above was that soft shade of morning gray that was predicted to give way to a bright and sunny day. There was a soft breeze that carried the chill of the morning air and the soft murmurs of conversations from others.

It was to this breezy weather that Aki stepped out of the limo, along with the twins clinging to her sides. Somehow it didn't even feel all that different, for the most part she could have just taken the day off because of an idle cold. Which at that moment felt probably was for the best, as she saw Asuka and the rest of the gang waiting off to the side for her. Even near by was the twins little trio of friends, as though they were slowly melting into one little social group.

Cute.

"Are you back? Like really back!?" Momoe excitedly called out as she dashed out to do a proper 'reunite with friend we thought dead' tackle. Junko wasn't much better, just a few shades more sedate than their black haired friend. The guys followed up with their own greetings, though Aki could see Honest walking among them as though it was perfectly normal. All the while the limo pulled away taking away the only safe place Aki had from the group.

Perfectly normal and standing where Isao used to stand... the traitor.

"Hey, thanks for coming to my rescue," Fubuki began with a faint smile. "Even though it should be the other way around right?" He was dressed in the school uniform of a classmate and not a senior student. Despite being Asuka's 'older' brother...

"I'm just glad I was able to help!" Aki answered easily enough as she struggled to handle the idea of a duel spirit attending a human school. But of course her 'mental' state was still a hot topic issue, even if she wanted to get stronger. 'I'll have to figure out how to weed these issues out won't I?'

"And you can't begin to understand how much it means to my family and I that you pulled it off," Asuka replied. Her eyes glistened with tears of gratitude that she was too proud to let fall. Proud and with a 'duty' of sorts that she was excited to perform. "So you remember the yearly Valentines event the school hosts right?"

Aki blinked before slowly shaking her head. "I stopped attending before that kind of stuff sank in... What with my powers as they were..." She confessed while the kids paused from their own conversations and began listening with rapt attention.

"Its a lovers tag duel!" Momoe squealed in delight catching the attention of everyone in the near by vicinity.

Suddenly everyone stopped talking and gave their attention to the group with an excitement that began to fill the air. Causing Aki to slowly start looking about in growing concern since she wasn't summoning any Duel Spirits to justify the attention this was generating.

"Well yes," Asuka began with a slightly rueful expression, wishing Momoe had a little more self control when it came to love. "Its held every year and the emperor or empress of the school can have a tag duel with their S/O... Its just a showy way of trying to motivate the classmates to take that next step to talk to their crushes," Asuka began.

Only with Momoe's expression coupled with Junko, there was a subtext of stuff that she was skipping. Perhaps Asuka was trying to just pass it off as something less important, but it only took a glance to the side for Aki see the surprised expressions around her. Or hear the voices...

"The queen is challenging the senators' daughter?! Can she truly compete against the Queen?"

As the crowd began to murmur among themselves another limo pulled up onto the drop off area, a stoic towering driver with neat black hair and eyes covered by large black sunglasses stepped out. He spared the students not a single glance as he walked to the back and opened the door at the back of the limo. Allowing Ryu to step out just outside the crowd he found.

He waved away Iriye, allowing the driver back to his regular duties as he listened to the conversations going on before him. No one noticed him, and that was a blessing as he was able to hear the gossip about the upcoming school duel. 'Ohhh Tenjoin has decided to challenge Izayoi? Well that's up to them, the twins should be with Izayoi though...' With that thought he set to work and began wiggling through the crowd of student uniforms and bags.

Calling attention to himself wasn't going to be the best idea. The less attention he got the better so he just patiently moved about, until he saw the first glimpse of puppy tail style hairdo. Pleased he moved towards Rua when he noticed a lack of bug style, only to peek Ruka much closer to Izayoi's side. 'Oh well..' He reached out and gave Rua a tap on the shoulder

Rua gave a small jump of surprise before turning to see who tapped his shoulder, and for a moment was taken aback by Ryu. Partly because he was an upper classmate, but also because it was 'Kaiba', Ryu. Now with the added awe of the haunted office building, the autographs from the 'King' who was missing. The knowledge of the violent protective nature of the building itself, and having faced an angry, unamused Kaiba, Mokuba.

He slipped away to follow his older classmate before giving a cheery, "Good morning Captain. What's up?"

Ryu gave a half smile before he tilted his head forward, "I'll talk outside of this crowd. There's enough chatter as it is." And while he wasn't as unique or distinct as the twins with their hair styles, there was no trouble on Rua's end apparently. He followed the older boy until they broke free of the crowd and back under more open air and sky.

"Well I see Izayoi has returned, and while she's busy, I was wondering if I could ask a favor of your sister." Ryu began patiently, deciding to skip any normal formalities. There was only so much time before the bell rang and he needed the time spent 'productively'.

"Uh why? Is... is it the holiday thing?" Rua defensive suddenly in that way all brothers who had any love for their sisters probably did.

But Ryu was just young enough not to quite get the reasoning for the defensive tone right off the bat. He blinked instead and wondered at it while his brain pondered until, like a computer, he hit on the issue. With a slight sigh he shook his head in amusement, "no, that's not why. I have a deck and I need to see if I can get in contact with any of the spirits in it..." he confessed. "I can't invite you to the mansion or the offices Father would have questions. But I can ask here, and-," his voice stalled out as he noticed this 'look' on Rua's face.

An expression he'd seen times before when people would want something out of his father or himself. That calculating wish list that people often had when the opportunity came up to exploit an opening with the wealthy or powerful. Only this was Rua, who was the twin of a girl who held the Mark of the Crimson Dragon. 'So let the dice fall where they may,' he thought to himself. "I know what that look means."

"If you'll be our friend, I'll ask my sister for you," Rua announced feeling rather proud of himself.

Ryu, for his part, looked completely startled at the request and went so far as to stick his finger in his ear.

"Your Uncle visited us once at our Condo. And we know he's 'super' important to the Duel Spirits... But he seems to do things directly for those with connections to Duel Spirits. So if you're our friend, even if the Spirit in question can't get you the answer. He might." Rua explained, even as his justification sent Ryu's world spinning.

Uncle Yugi... was back?
