Conversations on a Balcony

A/N: Hi Lovelies. I've written a LOT recently and I'm a little burned out so I'm slowing down a tad. Here's a little sweetness for your Wednesday!
It was a breezy Saturday morning. Sunshine spilled over Kara as she lay on the rattan couch on the balcony outside her bedroom. She was dozing lightly, listening to Abby splashing around in the hot tub and talking to her beloved rubber duck. There was quiet then for a moment and she was about to look over at her daughter when she heard stealthy footsteps approach her.
Abby knelt next to the couch and Kara stayed still, pretending to be asleep as a tiny, curious hand moved over her swollen stomach. "Liv? Can you hear me?" the little girl whispered, and it was all Kara could do to not smile. "When are you coming? It's been soooo many sleeps!" She frowned a little, narrowing her eyes as she x-rayed Kara to see her sister. "What's it like in there? Is it dark? I don't remember being in /:ieiu/'s tummy." Her hand moved slowly in a rhythm that Kara found more than a little soothing and she relaxed even more as her daughter leaned a little closer. "When you come, we're going to go to the park. Mommy said we could, although you'll be too small to be able to play with me for a while." She grinned widely. "But I'm going to take care of you until you're a big girl like me. I'm going to teach you how to fly."
A tear crept out from beneath Kara's lashes, and she forced herself to breathe steadily as a wave of emotion crashed over her. There was no way she ever could have denied the existence of her first-born child and she was so glad she hadn't.
"Whatcha doing, Baby?" Cat asked softly as she stepped out into the balcony.
"Just talking to Liv," Abby replied as she got to her feet.
Kara's face eased into a smile then and Cat chuckled softly. "Oh yeah? What were you talking about?"
Abby grinned as she wrapped her arms around Cat's hips and hugged her. "I was just telling her that I want her to hurry up and come. It's been LOADS of sleeps. How many more sleeps is it now, Mommy?"
"Well," Cat said as she took a seat on the edge of the couch, lifted her child into her lap and laced her fingers with Kara's, whose blue eyes were now gazing adoringly at them. "We're not sure when exactly it'll be but we think another two months so maybe another sixty sleeps."
"SIXTY?!" Abby protested, rolling her eyes. "That's STILL loads."
The hero chuckled softly. "It seems like loads," she replied, running her fingers through her daughter's hair. "But time flies, Sweet Girl. Olivia will be here soon. Promise." She sat up then and swiveled her legs over the side of the couch to take Abby into her own lap and hug her. "I'm so proud of you, Abigail," she said. "You're going to be the best big sister in the world." She looked at Cat then, a big smile creasing her face. "Just like mine."
The older woman nodded and squeezed her fingers a little tighter. "Just like yours."
