Chapter 103

.

After a month of training Elle had learned to control her powers. But Claire still left each night, leaving Elle alone in this old research station. Elle didn't get many visitors, but she got one this night. It was Erik Lehnsherr, better known as Magneto.

.

Magneto: Hello Elle, may I come in?

Elle: Sure, if you don't mind being around an electric girl who can't always control her abilities.

Magneto: I assure you, I've been around uncontrolled mutants, almost my entire life.

Elle: I heard. In my world, we're called Evolved Persons.

Magneto: Yes, perhaps that is better than "mutant." Perhaps that word was designed to dehumanize us. I hear that you've learned to control your abilities.

Elle: Still learning. Claire is helping.

Magneto: I thought it only fair to warn you, more refugees are coming to Antarctica, you might have neighbors soon.

Elle: I should be okay by then.

Magneto: Unfortunately, there are those who would still consider you a threat, those who talk about killing you.

Elle: Claire wouldn't let them.

Magneto: She's one person. The Ambassador would veto any attempt to murder his people. But his control over the Council is less than absolute. I have seen this before, people being murdered simply for how they were born.

Elle: Anyone comes for me, they'll regret it.

Magneto: I have no doubt. But with enough enemies, you wouldn't be able to last forever. At least not alone. Mutants are also viewed with suspicion here, hated for no other reason than being born.

Elle: It happenned in my world too. It was after I died, I'd prefer not to have to go throught that myself. But from what I've heard, you went to extremes yourself.

Magneto: Yes, and I admit I made some tactical errors, but I wasn't wrong in my goals. After much fighting, mutants were granted our own homeland in Genosha.

Elle: Don't we already have a homeland here?

Magneto: Not specifically for, Evolved Persons. Perhaps that should change. I hope not to go to war with the main government, or even with the outside world, but let's not rule it out. Let us be ready to do what must be done for our survival.

Elle: I'm worried that could draw me into conflict with Claire, and she's been an amazing friend.

Magneto: Charles Xavier was the best friend I ever had, but circumstances pulled us apart. I truley regret that. But, keep your options open.

Elle: That, I will do.
