I had my muse disappear from this story, inspiration surprised me yesterday, plus I wasn't sure how to capture Jane's reaction. Let's see how they all cope with events from last chapter.
Frankie knew that he needed to contact Jane and let her know what was happening. He promised to Todd that he wouldn't but he knew his sister and he knew he had to inform her of what was going on. Angela came with Kate and Korsak stayed home with Julian. Their arrival distracted him from his task at hand.
"Uncle Frankie!" Kate rushed over to him just as he stepped out of Julian's room. "Is my brother okay?"
"He is just resting now, he's doing good. He got stitched up and got a cast they just put on him."
"Why did he have to get hurt?" Kate cried, wiping her eyes.
"It was an accident, a building collapsed," Frankie explained. "You want to go see your brother? He's right in there." Kate nodded, grabbing Frankie by the hand as they went inside.
"He looks so pale," Kate frowned, sitting in the chair. "Are you sure he's going to be okay?"
Angela looked at the young boy in the hospital bed, "The poor thing, I can't even imagine how scared he was. How are Frost and Tommy doing?" Angela turned to ask her son.
"Well Tommy, just has a small concussion and a fractured left arm. And well Frost he..." Frankie looked over at Kate who was listening to the adults talk. He pulled his mother by the arm, walking away slightly from the twins, lowering his voice. "He sort of had a lot of damage done to his head, the doctors said he could be in a coma for a couple of weeks. They did a scan they said something about his frontal lobe being damaged. When he wakes he could have some memory loss, there could be some changes in his personality, and some other things."
Angela frowned, hearing her son explain what happened to Frost. "Has- have you told Jane yet?"
Frankie shook his head, "I know I have to, but how am I supposed to do that? I promise Todd I wouldn't tell Jane, you know he was so concerned about ruining her vacation, I had to tell him I wouldn't, but we all know we can't hide things from Jane. Did you want to go visit Frost? His room is down the hall, Tommy is sitting with him. Tommy is pretty devastated, we both are, I'll stay here with the kids."
"Yeah, thanks for letting me know about this, just please look out for yourself Frankie, I would hate for something to happen to you too," she kissed his cheek before heading over to Frost's room. When she entered the room, Tommy looked up from Frost's bed towards his mother.
"Hey Ma."
"Hey Tommy, how are you doing?" she went to go sit down next to him.
"Honestly Ma, I'm a mess. Why did this have to happen to him? He's never done anything wrong Ma, now he's here and the doctors aren't certain when he'll wake up, and not to mention the problems Barry could have when he does wake up," Tommy took a deep breath, "What if he forgets certain things? What if he doesn't... what if he doesn't remember loving me Ma? What if he doesn't want to marry me anymore?" he started to cry, Angela pulled her son close.
"I-I don't know sweetie, I'm sure Frost will remember loving you, some things you just can't forget. You guys go so well together."
"But Ma, there are so many scenarios going off in my head. There's so many things that could change and I won't be able to handle it. I'm not strong enough to handle it."
"You don't give yourself enough credit Tommy, you are stronger than you realize, just like your siblings. Everything has been going so well for you, I don't want you to be thinking about all of the bad things that could happen. Maybe try focusing on the positive?" Angela suggested.
"It's not that easy Ma, Barry is in this hospital, laying in a coma that's bound to last longer than the one you had. You haven't seemed different after you woke up but you woke up pretty quickly considering everything," Tommy reached over to grab Frost's hand, looking down at the ring on his finger. "Barry, I really hope that things will be okay with you when you wake up, that things will be okay between us."
Angela sighed, she patted her son's leg. "You're such a good person Tommy, did you want something to eat or drink?"
Tommy nodded, "Some tea would be nice, thanks Ma."
"Of course sweetie," she got up from her chair, glancing at her son, looking sad but lovingly at Frost. "Please God let Frost be okay," she spoke softly to herself as she left the room for a drink.
When Jane woke up they were an hour away from Niagara Falls and the hotel that they were going to stay at. They were going to be staying over on the Canada side of the Falls. The girls stopped for small dinner at a little café. Jane had woken up feeling very hungry.
After they ate their food, just before they ordered dessert Jane felt her phone vibrate she grunted. "Looks like we're already being interrupted," she pulled out her phone and sighed. It was Frankie. "You do realize that I was going to call later to see how the twins are doing. Is everything alright?"
"I'm actually calling because of Todd."
At those words Jane sat up straight, "Wait, what happened with Todd?" she asked and Maura perked up at those words, moving to sit beside Jane.
"There was sort of an accident... Frost was doing something for a case and Todd and Tommy wanted to go out for lunch with him, so he let them tag along because it was only supposed to be for a moment. He was looking at some building using recyclables to make concrete. The floor above them collapsed and Todd ended up having his leg fractured."
"You're shitting me right?!" Jane shouted, causing some people to look at her in concern. "We can't even be gone a couple of hours before shit happens. Put Todd on the phone."
"He's currently sleeping, I would hate to wake him, he looks peaceful."
"Well then put Tommy or Frost on the phone, what were they thinking taking Todd out to a scene. Frost knows that was not proper protocol," Jane stated angrily, sighing when Maura rested a hand on her leg.
"I'll go put Tommy on the phone, just give me a minute he's in another room," Frankie spoke softly.
Jane looked towards Maura, who was frowning. "Ain't this some shit?"
"I wouldn't use those exact words, but yes I can agree with you there. Every time we try to do something nice for ourselves something always happens."
"Janie," Tommy's voice was heard on the phone. Jane could tell that her brother was crying.
"What the hell happened Tommy? Why would you let Todd and yourself tag along with Frost when he had work to do?"
"You know Barry, he can't say no to Todd when he gives a pout. It wasn't supposed to be like this. It was only supposed to be a couple of minutes, then shit hit the fan. I know we should have waited for him to come back but Todd wanted to go and see Barry at work."
"Why are you in a hospital room?"
"Uh I'm okay, I have a fractured arm and a small concussion. But Barry..." he paused, causing the girls to look at each other.
"Tommy, what happened to Frost?" Jane asked in almost a shout.
"Well, he got the most damage done to him, he has an injury to his frontal lobe, and a few cracked ribs. He's in a coma..."
"Shit..." Jane rubbed her temples. "Did the doctors give you any good news?"
"Not really no, except that he should wake up eventually, later rather than sooner though. Jane I'm really scared. There's so much that can change with the damage of that certain lobe, I had to look it up."
"Maybe Maura and I should just come back..." she looked at her wife, who gave her a look.
"No!" Tommy shouted. "I just mean... Todd doesn't want this to ruin your vacation. He said he didn't want you guys knowing, but we know you had to know. He'd be so upset seeing you guys come back. I- we got it under control. I know it doesn't sound like it after what happened but you both need to enjoy yourselves. You both need this vacation. There's honestly not much you can do."
Jane frowned, "But it's what I do. I help out and protect my family. Obviously you don't have a handle on it Tommy, or else it wouldn't have happened."
"Well you need to let other people handle things Jane, I'm sure Maura agrees with me."
"Tommy's right you know. The best we can do is keep in touch with him. I know you'd want to be there when Frost wakes up."
Jane ran her fingers through her hair in frustration. "Fine... but I swear you guys better take care of each other and give me as many updates as you can. I don't like being kept out of the loop, no matter what the twins think is best."
"I love you Janie, and try to enjoy your trip with Maura. I will be sure to keep you updated."
"Tommy, one more thing. Please, no matter what, don't go off the deep end, that's not what Frost would want. I know you and I worry even though I'm still pissed at what happened."
"I know you do Jane. I'll take care of myself. You and Maura do the same," he replied before hanging up. Jane got up from the table and went to walk outside for some air, Maura followed.
"I can't believe this shit Maura, Todd must have been so scared," Jane bent forward hands on her knees. "And Frost... dammit Maura, what if he comes out of his coma and isn't the same. I don't want to lose my best friend."
Maura rested her hand on Jane's back, rubbing gently. "If anything happens Jane, I know you're going to be there for him no matter how hard it is for him. I know you're scared Jane, I am too."
Jane stood straight and looked at Maura, wiping her wet eyes. "How am I possibly supposed to enjoy our vacation knowing Todd and Frost are hurting?"
Maura shrugged, "I-I don't know, what did you want to do?"
"I want to spend time away with my wife, but I'm always going to think about them. I wouldn't want to ruin our trip."
Maura reached out her hand and cupped Jane's cheek. "You can't ruin our trip Jane, it's okay if they are in your mind, I know you're worried, but Tommy is right, there's nothing that we can actually do for Barry right now, and Todd won't be going anywhere with his injuries. Whatever you want to do though, it's fine by me."
"You're so understanding sometimes Maura, there is something I need to do though," Jane pulled away, Maura observed her wife.
"Are you okay?"
"Me yeah..." Jane waved her off. "I think I just got to..." before she got her words out, her hands were on her knees, she breathed lightly before throwing up onto the cement. Maura was at her side for a moment, pulling back Jane's hair so she didn't throw up in it.
"Hey, it's going to be okay," Maura lightly comforted when Jane stood up straight, leaning against the building.
"Maura, you mind going to get me some water, maybe tell the waiter that... that is there," she pointed to the vomit on the ground.
"Yeah, of course Jane, just remember to keep on using steady breaths. I'll be right back," Maura told her before rushing back inside.
Jane closed her eyes and inhaled some air, taking in a little too much and kneeling over to repeat her actions. She groaned feeling miserable, she stood up once Maura came back outside. "I told someone about your accident, here drink this," Maura handed Jane a paper cup of ice water. "You're looking a little pale Jane."
"I think we should finish driving to Niagara Falls, I can rest the rest of the way. I just need to sit down," Jane reassured her wife. "That's all."
"Well let's go then," Maura linked her arm with Jane's as they went back to the car. "You sure you're okay... that you're wanting to continue this trip?" Maura asked as she helped Jane get in the car.
"You managed to convince me to continue," Jane reclined her chair and closed her eyes. "Let me know when we get there."
Maura kissed the top of Jane's head before going in the driver's side, she looked at her wife for a moment, "Jane, you don't think you got sick because you're..."
"Pregnant? Come on Maura, you read the test it came out negative, remember? I'm worried about Frost and Todd, that's it."
"We can still see and make sure, I brought some tests, just in case."
"You did?" Jane raised a brow and Maura nodded.
"I hope that it was okay, I thought it would be better than buying more when we already had some. You can take the test when we get to our hotel, if you'd like."
Jane nodded, resting a hand on Maura's leg. "Yeah, we can do that. It could brigthen up our trip a lot, if it's positive."
"I was thinking the same thing," Maura grinned, turning on the radio before driving off towards the Falls.
Back at the hospital in Boston, Tommy had gone to the cafe for something to eat and Frankie took Tommy's place in the chair beside Frost's bed.
"I hate that you're in here Frost. Seeing you here, well it hurts, it hurts knowing that you might be here for a while, maybe even months. Tommy is in so much pain, I can see it in his eyes, and I can see how tense he is. You have to get through this, for him," Frankie reached over to hold Frost's hand. "I'll do whatever I can to make sure that Tommy has things under control, we both know how he can get. I would hate if he did anything he would end up regretting, I'd make it my mission to make his life a living hell, I promise you that." He sighed, lowering his head. "You just have to be okay." He whispered, hearing someone enter the room, he turned and it was Kent.
"How is he? I ran into Tommy downstairs, he looks completely devastated."
"He's in a coma Kent, the doctors don't know when he'll wake up. But when he does wake up it doesn't look too well for him, there may be some changes, and I don't know if I could handle it," he groaned, his fingers going through his hair. "Thanks for checking up on him. I'm sure if he was awake he'd appreciate the visit."
Kent nodded, "I was also coming to check up on you, and well you know... apologize for kissing you. You were rambling, saying things that probably shouldn't have been said."
Frankie sighed, "Yeah like admitting that I sometimes get mad knowing Frost is with my brother. I didn't know why that came out, it just did."
"You still care for him, Gwen told me once about your friendship with Frost and how you guys tried to be more than friends, I'm sorry that it didn't work out for you, what I do know about Frost is that he's a great guy. I won't kiss you ever again, I don't know why I did. I'm not into men like that, but it's odd how I feel something for you. I know that's wrong, and I don't want to do anything more than be your friend. Plus it's really obvious that you aren't over Frost," Kent shrugged causing Frankie to frown.
"I am over Frost Kent, you have no idea what you're talking about."
"Could have fooled me Frankie. It's like Gwen saying she's over you, but we both know that she's not. You say one thing but the tone speaks of something else, but that's just my observation. Not to mention, you're still holding onto his hand," Kent nodded towards Frankie's hand attached to Frost's and he immediately let go.
"He's my best friend Kent, and I'm hurting that he's in here, that's all."
Kent put his hands in the air, "Okay Frankie, I didn't mean to upset you. But it's pretty obvious, just I hope your brother doesn't figure it out. And no I'm not going to say anything, but it's not going to go well if he does ever find out. I'll let you sit with Frost in peace now, Kate wants me there when her brother wakes up. I didn't know I made such a good impression on your family," he smiled softly, before leaving the room.
Frankie shook his head, turning to Frost, his hand going back on his, "I hope you didn't hear any of that. I can't still have feelings for you, I just can't... I thought I was over you Frost, that's the way it has to be. For all of us." Frankie hated the pain he was feeling right now, he didn't want to be dealing with any of it.
When Kent headed back to Todd's hospital room, he bumped into Tommy again. "Hey Kent, did you talk to him?" he asked with his arms crossed.
"He insists that he's over him Tommy, I'd just leave it at that. You're both hurting, you and Frankie both have been very impacted by this incident."
"Do you think he's over him?" Tommy looked worried and Kent nodded.
"I don't want to be the middle man, just talk to him, he's your brother."
"I know he is," he huffed. "I never wanted to be worried about this anymore, I swore it was over with. Why can't he just move on? It's like I don't know him anymore. Thanks for talking to him, I know you didn't want to get involved, but I appreciate it."
"Of course, it would just become hectic and things are already tough enough."
Tommy nodded and headed back to Frost's room as Kent headed towards Todd's. "Hey Frankie, thanks for sitting here while I was gone. I'm back now, Todd might be waking up from his nap soon."
Frankie got up from the chair, glancing at Frost once more, before walking over to Tommy, placing his hand on his shoulder. "It's going to be alright Tommy, it just has to be right?"
Tommy just sighed, and went to go back in his chair, grabbing Frost's hand. "Barry, I'm back. I'll be here as much as I possibly can. I don't want you to forget about me when you wake up, so maybe hearing my voice will help." He turned to observe his brother who was just standing there. "Frankie..."
"What? Yeah, I'm going," Frankie nodded before heading out of the room.
An hour and a half passed by when Maura and Jane finally made it to their hotel and checked in. They went up to their floor and entered their room, bags being placed on the floor.
"You know, everytime I'm at a hotel I think about Chad, he was such an amazing help. He kind of ruined other hotels for me," Jane chuckled, opening her water bottle she got from the lobby.
"At least this place has a continental breakfast," Maura smiled at Jane, "And I bet the view is amazing," she grabbed Jane by the hand, walking her towards the window, opening the curtains.
"Wow, it's really nice over here," Jane admired the beautiful Falls, they were lit up because it was getting dark out. "No wonder why Korsak has come to see these twice," Jane smiled, as Maura wrapped her arms around Jane from behind.
"They are very beautiful, I'm glad to be here with you," Maura pressed a kiss to Jane's shoulder. "Did you want to go out on the town? I never been to Canada."
"We can, I think seeing Canada will be better in the daylight, plus we have other matters at the moment," Jane turned to kiss Maura before pulling away. "The tests are in your purse you said?"
Maura nodded, "Yeah, feeling confident now?"
"I had over an hour to think about it while I was resting, plus I feel less nauseous. Good a time as any," Jane went to grab a test and went into the bathroom. She came out moments later, "And now we wait a few minutes," she bit her bottom lip, "Now what can we do in a few minutes?"
"Now?" Maura asked and Jane nodded.
"Why not now?" Jane smirked, turning to look inside the small fridge, seeing what was inside.
"Jane, I thought you meant," Maura shook her head.
"Oh geez Maur, get your mind out of the gutter, that would take longer than a few minutes," Jane took out two chocolate bars from the fridge, tossing one to Maura.
"Sometimes it doesn't though, sometimes it happens pretty fast," Maura licked her lips, giving Jane a seductive look.
"Yeah well..." Jane stopped, knowing she had no argument because Maura was right about that, sometimes she finished within seconds. She took a bite out of her chocolate bar before looking at her watch. "It is time..." Jane shifted slightly, putting her and Maura's chocolate bar down, linking her arm with Maura's tugging her towards the bathroom. "How about you look this time, maybe it'll be good news."
Maura nodded, "Whatever it says I hope you can still remain positive. You sure you're ready?"
"Yes Maura," she bounced on her heels, she paused as Maura grabbed some tissues before picking up the test and turning it over. Jane frowned, standing still for a moment. "Maura... is it?"
Maura looked up at Jane with a smile, "Well I think a congratulations is in order."
Jane grinned brightly at Maura's words, grabbing the test to see for herself. "Oh my God Maura, it's positive. I'm pregnant, I'm actually pregnant. We're going to have a baby Maura," Jane wiped the happy tears that were falling down her and Maura's cheeks.
"Yes Jane, we're going to be parents."
"Maura this is amazing," Jane threw her arms around Maura's neck. "It's actually happening."
Maura laughed, her heart warming at Jane's happiness. "Yes it is. I'm so happy."
"So am I Maura, absolutely ecstatic, at least something good has happened after getting that bad news," Jane leaned in and gave Maura a kiss. "I love you so much Maura, this is happening, and I get to do it all with you by my side."
"I love you too Jane, it really is a dream come true," she nuzzled her face against Jane's chest, just holding her, listening to her heart beat. Maura couldn't imagine this moment any other way. Jane and her were going to be real parents. Maura was so glad they were going to do this together, she couldn't imagine her life any other way.
I really hope you enjoyed this chapter, I was stuck for so long and then it just hit me, that happens sometimes. Jane is pregnant hooray for our Rizzles, I dislike when people say we are pregnant, but that's just my opinion so that's why I didn't say that lol. And smh at Frankie/Tommy always such children when it comes to Frost, and then Kent gets put in the middle.
