Ensnared

Yamaguchi went down the path, going much further than he had anticipated. He half wondered if he was even going the right way now. He knew the two tunnels he had just passed were not the one he was looking for. The tunnels Kenma described to him would have a boulder outside of it that looked like a totodile. Apparently in the mushroom community it was known as Totodile Tunnel because of that rock.

Yamaguchi was about to throw in the towel when he saw it, a large rock that looked like a dancing Totodile. "Hey, there it is!" he shouted to Eevee before racing to the tunnel.

Once at the tunnel Yamaguchi and Eevee examined it. The entrance was much smaller than the last tunnel he went into and due to that the tunnel became dark much faster than the others. He could see that the tunnel itself didn't seem as cramped as the entrance. Once stepping into the tunnel some of the sides looked like they had been recently dug out. Yamaguchi wondered if it was the work of wild Pokemon.

Just like the last tunnel it didn't take him long to find a small cluster of Zap Mushrooms. This tunnel was much darker so the small mushrooms glowed like little stars. Both Eevee and himself were enamoured by the beauty of the glowing mushrooms. Yamaguchi wondered if these things really were edible.

The two worked quietly as they filled the bag Kenma had given them. Eevee stayed close to Yamaguchi. With it being so dark she wasn't really brave enough to wander away from him. Every now and then they'd hear something make a sound in the depths of the cave causing them both to pick a bit faster.

"It's probably just the wind or maybe the Morelull that live in these caves," Yamaguchi insisted aloud any time they heard a sound. This didn't seem to calm Eevee and eventually she decided to spend the rest of the hunt on his shoulder pointing out the next cluster of mushrooms for them to pick.

After a while Yamaguchi decided to use a small flashlight Kenma had given him. He and Eevee carried on picking as many mushrooms as they could. As Yamaguchi picked he felt like he heard another strange noise. This time it felt like someone had called his name. It was faint like a light breeze but he was sure he heard his name. He looked up from the cluster of mushrooms he had been picking from and looked down the dark tunnel once more where he thought he heard his name being called from.

"Hello?" Yamaguchi said in a small voice. His voice echoed off the walls. There was no reply. As his flashlight illuminated the depths of the cave all he could see were several scared Morelull skittering this way and that. Perhaps all he had heard was a wild Pokemon. Nonetheless a shiver ran down his spine. He felt like he was being watched and he didn't mean the Morelull.

Eevee gave a confused yip as she rubbed her head against Yamaguchi's cheek. She didn't seem to be as spooked as Yamaguchi felt.

Yamaguchi gave Eevee's head a pat. "I'm probably just hearing the wind," he reassured. He blamed the darkness for his sudden wave of paranoia. He wasn't going to let his fear of dark places get to him. Their bag wasn't even halfway full so he wasn't going to give up yet.

Yamaguchi hummed the tune of the next song he planned to make a routine to to help keep his mind off of how dark it was and how uneasy he felt. Dark places had always been something Yamaguchi avoided but he thought he'd mostly gotten over that. Apparently not for every sound he heard now, even the sound of his own foot kicking a stone, he'd give a small jump. Eevee didn't seem to be nearly as spooked as her trainer. Anytime Yamaguchi would give a jump she'd trill gently and rub her cheek on his as if to reassure him that they were fine.

This cave was much darker than the first one they'd explored so it was hard for Yamaguchi to gauge how far they'd traveled into it. As he picked he didn't realize just how deep he was wandering into the tunnel. It was only when his bag was mostly full that he realized they had gone in farther then he'd meant for them to.

It was when he felt a second wave of panic that Yamaguchi decided he had had enough of this cave. He felt a sudden need to get away from here. The feeling came on so suddenly it almost felt like it didn't even belong to him. Their bag was almost full anyway so there wasn't any point in staying in a tunnel that gave him the heebee jeebees.

Looking down the length of the tunnel from where he had came he could see the light from the entrance was now the size of a large marble. "Wow, I guess we got a little carried away," He nervously laughed before making his way out of the tunnel. It was a good thing the exit was just a straight shot. "Don't tell Tsukki we wandered in this far," he hummed. Eevee trilled in agreement.

To help calm himself Yamaguchi hummed the tune to the same song from before . He used the flashlight to keep any eye out for any uneven dirt. Eevee repositioned herself to be in his arms. She could tell her trainer could do with a bit of comfort. Yamaguchi gave her head a small pat, causing Eevee to trill happily.

Yamaguchi was halfway to the entrance when everything seemed to go wrong. One second he was walking calmly down the length of the tunnel and the next thing he knew he feet slipped out from under him.

It all happened so fast and the tunnel was so dark Yamaguchi couldn't even understand what was going on. First his feet slipped like one might do if they were running and slipped on a loose rug. Next something caught him from underneath, propelling him to the ceiling. His bag of mushrooms and flashlight crashed to the floor as he and Eevee went up. Both Pokemon and trainer released loud shouts of shock as they were scooped up.

Yamaguchi's head spun as he came to realize he had been caught up in some sort of net trap. The small net contained him in such a way that his knees were almost to his chin. His long limbs awkwardly wrapped themselves around his body making him feel like a human pretzel. Eevee was wedged against his chest, barely able to move. The two swung back and forth in the air like a pendulum. To make matters worse the tunnel was so dark he could barely make anything out.

Yamaguchi felt panic wash over him as he tried to comprehend what was going on. He had been caught in some sort of net. Was this a poacher's net? Could it have been out here to stop people from wandering too deep into the tunnel? Maybe it was put here by other mushroom hunters? Question after question rapidly shot through Yamaguchi's mind. What was he going to do?

His dex! He could call for help on his dex! He struggled and shifted uncomfortably as he tried to worm his hand to his back pocket. Eevee squealed uncomfortably as Yamaguchi struggled to move around her.

"S-sorry, girl. I'll get us out of here soon," Yamaguchi reassured, trying his best not to sound too scared.

He felt around as his right back pocket but it came up empty. Then he patted at his left back pocket. Also, empty! Where was his dex? His stomach did a weird sort of twist as he tried not to panic.

Eevee gave a small eep as she motion to the tunnel floor. Yamaguchi shifted once more and sure enough his dex had fallen from his pocket. It now lay atop the bag of mushrooms. Beside the bag sat the flashlight, it's bulb illuminating the wall closets to them.

Then it hit Yamaguchi, he could send one of his pokemon for help. But almost instantly he recalled leaving his backpack with Kenma. His whole team was there aside from Eevee who was still wedged against his chest. He felt completely stupid for not even thinking about taking one other Pokemon along. The repels had made him bold.

Yamaguchi tried not to panic as he and Eevee hung in the air. The net they were in had stopped swinging but it turned them in slow circles. Yamaguchi knew he needn't panic. Yachi and Kenma knew where he was and if he didn't come back soon they were bound to come looking for him.

He did a few breathing exercises that Shimada had taught him to help calm himself. He needed to stay calm and alert and panicking wouldn't get him out of this net. As he racked his brain for a way down that was when he heard it. Footsteps.

Yamaguchi froze, his breathing becoming shallow. He listened quietly to the sound of footsteps. They were slow and careful but also confident. It took him a moment but those footsteps definitely belonged to a human. Whoever it was was wearing heels and they were not coming from the entrance of the cave but the dark depths of the cave.

Yamaguchi felt his voice get lost in his throat. He shook as he tried to decide if he should say something or just be quiet. He needed to be strong if not for himself then for Eevee.

As footsteps came closer and closer, Yamguchi decided he'd keep quiet for now. He'd let the other person talk first just in case it was the unsavory sorts. The footsteps stopped as whoever it was came upon the net. Yamaguchi could barely see anything in the dark tunnel so could this person really see him?

Out of the corner of his eye Yamguchi got the outline of the woman as whoever it was picked up his flashlight. A small laugh escaped the lady that sent a shiver down Yamaguchi spine. The next thing he knew the net was being lowered.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't our little stalker," Admin Mika hummed in amusement as she flashed the light on Yamaguchi. "Boss is going to be so happy to know we finally got our hands on you."

"N-No," Yamaguchi whispered in horror as he felt his body freeze in fear. This couldn't be happening.

Tsukishima felt his patience growing thin the moment he left Yamguchi's side. He had learned how to tolerate Kuroo but Kageyama and Hinata were another story altogether. While Kuroo could be loud and annoying the older trainer knew how to dial it back. Kageyama and Hinata, on the other hand, didn't even seem to be aware of how loud they were when arguing. On top of that Tsukishima was still pissed at Kageyama for having the audacity to crush on his boyfriend.

The glares Tsukishima sent to Kageyama held more than just annoyance and being around him boiled his blood. Kageyama was far too distracted by Hinata challenging him to a catch off to even notice just how annoyed Tsukishima was and this didn't help Tsukishima's mood. If anything, Tsukishima at least wanted the fulfillment of taunting the two.

The second they arrived at the power plant Kageyama and Hinata were off. Tsukishima didn't hesitate to wander to the opposite side of the building. Anything would be better than watching those two squabble more.

"Splitting up is a ballsy thing for you to do," Kuroo taunted as he followed after Tsukki. "I brought you along to help me babysit those two after all."

"They can take care of themselves," Tsukishima spat. "And with how loud they are being I wouldn't be surprised if they scared off every last Pokemon."

"I suppose you make a good point there," Kuroo laughed. He walked beside Tsukki as the two looked around for anything of interest.

The power plant was quite big. A large towering cylinder reached up to the sky and around it were several antennae reaching toward the cylinder. The cylinder and antenna rested atop a large round building. Several windows of the building were broken and all around were what looked to be abandoned racks that once held solar panels. An old fence bordered the building making it difficult for them to get too close. Several old and faded 'no trespassing' signs hung feebly on the fence and atop the fence was old rusted barbed wire. There were areas here and there that looked as if someone at some point took wire cutters to the fence to let themselves in.

The two wandered about the area. Nothing of interest really caught Tsukishima's eyes. Several Magnemite and Nosepass wandered about the area minding their own business. Every now and then Tsukishima caught the face of a few Dedenne watching them from the broken windows. There was nothing terribly remarkable about any of these Pokemon and Tsukki began to wonder why he even agreed to come here.

"Hey, look at that," Kuroo said, pointing to the building. He stood close to the fence with his finger painting to the large tower.

Tsukishima slowly made his way beside Kuroo and looked up to find a rather large burn mark on the side of the tower. Below it all the windows of the building had been blown out and there was a huge hole in the roof.

"That burn looks fresh," Kuroo said after not getting a reaction from Tsukki. "I wonder if it was from last night's storm. But normal lighting would do this much damage."

Tsukishima rolled his eyes. He knew Kuroo was trying to get him excited. "I highly doubt a Zapdos did that," he grumbled.

"You never know," Kuroo smiled, giving Tsukishima a shove with his elbow.

"I'm not a stupid kid like those other two," Tsukishima mumbled as he averted his eyes. The stupid part of himself had sort of hoped to find something cool here but he knew better than to actually be hopeful.

Kuroo gave a light laugh at the sight of Tsukki's pout. He sure looked like a kid at the moment. "Well, we better go find the other two before they try to break past the fence for real or something."

Tsukishima rolled his eyes but followed after Kuroo. It would be a pain to have to go after Hinata if he did somehow make it to the other side of the fence. As the two walked Tsukishima dragged his feet. They had only walked a few minutes before they could hear the shouts of Hinata and Kageayama's argument. Tsukishima half considered going back to join in the mushroom hunt. The only thing stopping him was the fact that Yamaguchi would probably have something to say if he came back so early.

As Kuroo and Tsukishima rounded the corner they were not very surprised to find Hinata attempting to scale the tall fence. Tsukishima wondered if Hinata was too short to see the barbed wire lining the top of the fence. He released a small scoff like laugh at the idea of Hinata reaching the top only to realize his mistake. Kuroo on the other hand seemed a bit more worried for the younger trainer.

"Hinata, what are you doing?" Kuroo called as he jogged over to where Kageyama stood scowling up at Hinata.

"Idiot says barbed wire won't stop him," Kageyama scoffed.

"Well, it's good to know that at least one of you has some sense," Tsukishima drawled as he joined the two.

"What was that!?" Hinata shouted, almost losing his grip in the process.

Tsukishima released a loud laugh as Hinata struggled to regain his grip.

"For the love of Arceus, get down from there before you fall," Kuroo sighed, opening his arms as if he expected Hinata would fall at any moment and would need someone to catch him. "Kenma will kill me if Hinata comes back injured," Kuroo mumbled more to himself than anyone else.

"When I tell Yachi about this you are going to be in so much trouble," Kageyama snapped.

"You wouldn't dare!" Hianta snapped, cranking his head around to send Kageyama a stern glare. "You're just mad because you're not as brave as I am."

"I'll show you brave," Kageyama growled before going to scale the fence himself. Kuroo was quick to stop him before his hand so much as touched the wired fence.

"Hinata, just get down from there," Kuroo sighed

Hinata eyed Kuroo for a moment, intent on replying, but something behind them caught his eye. "Hey, someone is coming," Hinata said, squinting his eyes.

The three on the floor turned to see that sure enough a group of people were headed their way. The figures were blurs in the hot desert sun and they were unable to make out if it was friend or foe. All were on high guard and in a moment Hinata had managed to climb down the fence to stand beside them. As Tsukishima squinted he was able to make out that there were somewhere between four to six people walking their way.

"Who would be wandering way out here?" Hinata mumbled, he stood tall to make himself look more intimidating.

"We weren't the only ones at the oasis, idiot," Tsukishima sighed.

Hinata took a sharp intake of air as something dawned on him. "They must be here for the Zapdos, too!"

Tsukishima couldn't help but send Hinata the sort of look you make when someone says something very unnecessary and stupid. Tsukishima opened his mouth to make a sassy remark but before he could so much as make a sound Hinata gave a great jump.

"That's Bokuto!" HInata shouted, pointing his finger at one of the people heading their way.

Tsukishima squinted as he looked at the group. Sure enough the guy in the middle did resemble a Noctowl and almost on cue Bokuto's voice could be heard.

"Hinata!" Bokuto yelled as he broke from the others and ran towards Hinata and the others.

Tsuksihima felt a bit of relief knowing that the strangers were in fact friends but it quickly became replaced with annoyance at how loud Hinata and Bokuto were being. As Bokuto and the others came closer Tsukishima could make out Akashi and to his surprise they were being accompanied by Oikawa and Iwaizumi. A wave of uneasiness began to settle in him at seeing the two.

"Who would have expected to find you guys here?" Bokuto said far too loudly for Tsukishima's liking.

"We got stuck here after that storm. The route we wanted to take to Lumiose City was blocked off due to the storm," Hinata explained. He vibrated with so much energy as he spoke and Bokuto's large smile and enthusiastic nodding only seemed to fuel Hinata more.

"I bet you guys are here to check out what caused that giant pillar of light last night, right?" Bokuto guessed correctly.

"Did you see it, too!? Were you here this whole time and we didn't notice?" Hinata practically shouted from his excitement.

"We weren't here last night but we got a call from Nurse Joy about it," Akaashi calmly explained.

"It's Zapdos! I know it is!" Hinata shouted before anyone else could speak. "And I came here to catch it!"

"Well, if it isn't Tobio-kun!" Oikawa sneered, pushing past both Hinata and Bokuto. He had been the last to arrive and as he made his present known he almost pushed Hinata to the floor.

"What the crap do you want?" Kageyama grumbled, shooting daggers at Oikawa. This seemed to be the reaction Oikawa wanted from him.

"I'm just shocked to see you back with your loud little friend," Oikawa shrugged. His tone was very condescending. "Didn't you two have some sort of petty argument?"

"It's none of your business," Kageyama and Hianta snapped at the same time.

"Give it a rest, Oikawa," Iwaizumi cut in, putting a firm hand on Oikawa's shoulder. "You promised no drama," he warned.

"Iwa is no fun!" Oikawa grumbled. He pouted as he stepped aside so Iwaizumi could talk with the others.

"We have come here to investigate the anomaly from the storm last night," Iwaizumi explained.

"Wow, so Hinata and Yamaguchi really did see something last night," Kuroo hummed, his tone seemed to be a bit more serious than before. "You guys don't think-"

"We don't know what caused the anomaly and it's best if you all head back to the Oasis until we have looked into it," Iwaizumi cut in as if he was trying to stop Kuroo from finishing his thought.

"Why!?" Hinata wined. "We got here first so that Zapdos is ours!"

"It would be better for civilians such as yourselves to go back to the Oasis until this area has been cleared," Iwaizumi's tone was deep and a bit threatening.

"Civilians? What gave you guys the right to poke around here?" Tsukishima asked, his tone calculating.

"As an Elite four member it's my duty to look into reports like this," Bokuto replied.

Tsukishima's eyes went from Bokut to Iwaizumi. Iwaizumi wasn't an elite four member. "Why is he here then?" Tsukishima's eyes narrowed. He didn't like where things were going at all.

"It's confidential," Iwaizumi sharply replied.

"This doesn't have anything to do with your research, does it?" Tsukishima was quite stiff as he asked this question. He felt he already knew the answer.

"He said that it's confidential," Oikawa sneered from behind Iwaizumi.

That was all Tsukishima needed to know. For a split second he caught Kageyama's eye and in unison the two said "We have to go back and find the others." The two galred at one another but they both had the same thought. If Iwaizumi was here and his research was involved then this area wasn't safe.

Authors Note:

Oh no! It looks like our dear Yamaguchi has been trapped. Will Tsukki be able to make it back in time to rescue him? What does Admin Mika have in store for Yamaguchi? Stay tuned to find out that and more.
