Chapter 111
.
Robin brought little John, Will Scarlett, Anastasia, and others back home to Antarctica with him. Others stayed behind, particularly John Brown and Lenin. Brown was still dedicated to fighting against slavery, Lenin was probably dedicated to his cause, but he was also hoping to take a leadership role in his revolution. Robin was happy to be able to see his daughter for the first time since she was an infant. Both Robins hugged and cried, sat down for a long talk. The rest of the group returned home for a rest period. They had lost Rumplestiltzkin, and while they had saved a number of people, they hadn't found their original target, Benjamin Linus. Before Jack could rest, he was called to a meeting with the Ambassador.
.
Jack: You wanted to see sir?
Ambassador: Yes Jack. You've heard the rumors about John Smith?
Jack: That he's being forced by the SBA to run for president, and enact policies that would hurt the alien refugees.
Ambassador: Indeed. We've found this young woman, who might actually be John Smith's great-granddaughter. Her grandmother was born in 1958, born to a single mother who worked as a waitress in a diner in Chicago, near Wrigley Field. John Smith's infidelities are well known, this 19 year old, Marissa, went missing, just before he began publicly supporting certain SBA policies.
Jack: Any idea where Marissa is now?
Ambassador: Possibly. There's a compound in Montana, owned by a group that calls itself the "Sons of Liberty." President Odonnell says there's no evidence that they're involved in terrorism, but they seem to support radical ideas, including racist attitudes towards our people.
Jack: You believe they might be holding Marissa in this compound.
Ambassador: Yes. But there's not enough evidence for a warrant. But, given your history of insubordination, and your skills at covert operations...
Jack: You want me to rescue her. But if I get caught, they might not believe I acted alone. There could be consequences.
Ambassador: I know, but John Smith has a pretty good chance of getting elected president next year. If the SBA can still control him, we cannot allow that to happen. I know I'm asking a lot of you, and I will not force you.
Jack: I'll do it, and I know the risks for myself. Promise me that Kim will be okay.
Ambassador: I'll do what I can, provided she cooperates with her own rehabilitation.
Jack: Fair enough.
Ambassador: Incidentally, you'll be working with someone. The same person who told us where the SBA is holding Marissa. Vic Mackey.
Jack: This is getting more unpleasant by the minute. I'll still do it.
