Chapter 125
.
At the meeting the Ambassador heard from professor Charles Xavier, Magneto, and Chase Graves. These individuals said mainly what the Ambassador expected.
.
Chase: We need to crack down on these rescue missions. I know Antarctica is the largest continent, and still probably the least populated. But we nevertheless have limited space and limited resources. We cannot keep bringing in people who could potentially be agents of Evil.
Xavier: By your logic, anyone could potentially be agents of Evil. Most are just refugees, desperate to get away from Hell.
Chase: We've already had incidents of refugees causing trouble, even sabotage.
Xavier: Those are a few isolated incidents, not worth adopting an isolationist stance over.
Magneto: And if you try to deport these refugees, I guarantee you'll have a fight on your hands.
Chase: We might consider amnesty for, most of those already here. Others, should be deported.
Magneto: By which, I assume, you mean those who can't fight back.
Chase: I mean those who have committed violent crimes, here or in their original worlds.
Xavier: Deport them, to where? To Hell? You do that, Evil could just release them, and make them hungry for revenge.
Ambassador: At the very least, keeping them imprisoned here, prevents them from actively engaging in espionage.
Chase: Our prison system is not equipped to contain the sheer numbers that unrestricted immigration could lead to.
Xavier: We are working at rehabilitation, which would be far more effective than simple incarceration. We could get more people to join our side, against Evil.
Chase: Some, perhaps, but too few I fear would be genuine. Especially, if we allow other refugees from this world.
Xavier: You cannot deny that people are being harassed for simply being suspected of being alien refugees.
Chase: That is their problem. We bring in those refugees, many of whom have probably been granted leave from Hell, we risk angering those countries.
Magneto: And why should the opinions of those racists be taken into account? We should be helping them immigrate here, protecting them from harm, by any means neccessary.
Xavier: Let us be careful how we act towards this.
Magneto: They let these refugees immigrate here I have no problem with them. They don't, then me and other mutants will act.
Chase: Yes, let's send mutants with these powers to America, that won't enflame tensions further.
Magneto: Tensions are already high. They hate us only because we are mutants, or in your case a zombie. And I have noticed, that even here in Antarctice, people still look down on us, still call for mutants to be forced to register their powers.
Chase: You're not going to go into your talk of a seperate nation for mutants, are you?
Magneto: If we could get a guarantee that mutants will be treated evenly with homo sapiens, such talk would not be neccessary.
.
The Ambassador continued to listen to these Council members. How things might turn out when they eventually voted, he couldn't predict. The last thing they could afford was for their to be in fighting amongst alien refugees, but that might be unavoidable.
