Chapter 128: Uncrushing Defeat!
At Lake Acuity...
Following Ash's full battle loss against Paul, Nurse Joy was working overtime to heal all of Ash's Pokemon.
Lucas said goodbye and left the heroes a few hours ago to continue his journey to the next town.
Prinplup and Torchic looked at their injured companions with sad expressions.
"Prinplup."Prinplup said sadly.
"Torchic."Torchic sighed.
"Don't worry, Prinplup and Torchic."Dawn assured with a small smile. "Soon everyone will be just fine."
"Right."Brock agreed. "All we have to do is leave it up to Nurse Joy."
Denise, Dawn and Brock tried to stay positive, but Ash walked outside to clear his head.
"Ash, hold on-"Denise started with a worried look.
Denise tried to follow Ash, but Brock stopped her, letting him go for now.
Outside...
Ash laid down on the soft green grass, thinking about his battle with Paul, remembering how Ursaring took out half of his team and how Monferno couldn't defeat Electabuzz despite having just evolved.
In the Pokemon Center...
Brock finished wrapping a bandage around Gliscor's injured arm.
"Gliscor."Gliscor cried in pain.
"Gliscor, don't cry."Brock instructed with a smile. "It will be over soon."
"Happiny."Happiny agreed as she checked Buizel, who lied on the floor.
Nurse Joy and Chansey checked on Ash's Pokemon as Dawn and Denise watched the sight with Prinplup and Torchic.
"Paul's pokemon really beat them hard."Denise commented with a frown.
"Aw, I just wish there was something we could do to help."Dawn replied as she sat on the floor.
Prinplup gets an idea and started making faces to try to be funny, which gives Dawn the idea to create a show to cheer Ash up.
"Wow. Thanks, Prinplup."Dawn remarked. "I get it. Your saying me and Dennie shouldn't be down too."
Prinplup nodded. "Prinplup."
"That's it!"Dawn declared in realisation.
"What is it, Dawn?"Denise asked.
"I just got the greatest thought!"Dawn admitted and looked at her starter pokemon. "And Prinplup, your just the one I need to help me out with this!"
"Prinplup!"Prinplup cheered.
Dawn and Prinplup started running in the hallway.
"Dawn!"Denise called out. "Where are you going?"
"I'll explain later, Dennie!"Dawn assured. "This is gonna be great!"
Denise and Torchic blinked before looking at each other.
"Hey Torchic, how about we go to the kitchen and prepare something sweet for Ash to cheer him up?"Denise asked.
"Torchic!"Torchic answered happily.
Having finished the bandaging and with Ash's Pokemon resting, Nurse Joy and her assistants tidy things up and put the medical supplies away.
"Happ happiny."Happiny giggled and held up a medical box.
"Thanks, Happiny."Brock thanked.
Brock placed the medical box away as Nurse Joy smiled at him.
"Wow, Brock."Nurse Joy responded. "I can't help you enough. Your such a big help."
Brock became lovey dovey and started flirting with Nurse Joy.
"Nurse Joy, I would happily give myself completely in order to serve your tiny desire."Brock flirted.
Brock froze in fear when he saw Croagunk ready to hit him with his Poison Jab.
"Wait, Croagunk! Please!"Brock pleaded. "You got it all wrong! I was just helping out Nurse Joy!"
Croagunk deactivated his Poison Jab and walked away.
Nurse Joy smiled before noticing Monferno was fast asleep.
"Oh, dear. Monferno's recovery is slow."Nurse Joy admitted. "I do think because Monferno took so much damage. Brock, do you think you can go to the woods near here and look for some Cheri berries for me?"
"I'd love to."Brock answered. "I'll be back soon."
In the Kitchen...
Denise wore a pink apron as she stirred a bowl that contained a chocolate mix in it.
Torchic was using his beck to break the nutmegs while Kirlia used Pyschic to make a rolling pin flat a pastry dough.
"How is it going you two?"Denise asked.
"Torchic!"Torchic tweeted as he pecked on one more nutmeg.
"Kirlia."Kirlia replied with a smile.
"Great."Denise chuckled. "Now all we have to do is put the ingredients together."
In Another Room...
Dawn was practicing her show with Mamoswine, Buneary and Pachirisu.
"Okay! One and two!"Dawn counted while clapping. "One and two! One and two! Great! Your all looking wonderful!"
"Buneary!"Buneary giggled.
"Pachi!"Pachirisu cheered.
Buneary and Pachirisu let out happy shouts as Dawn looked at Prinplup, who wore a clown suit.
"Now its Prinplup's turn!"Dawn remarked.
Back in the Medical Room...
Nurse Joy fed Monferno some smashed cheri berries to eat.
"Here, Monferno."Nurse Joy said gently. "Some smashed Cheri berries."
Nurse Joy slowly fed Monferno the smashed berries that Brock picked in the woods and the Playful Pokemon munched them in his mouth.
Pikachu, Buizel, Gliscor, Grotle and Staraptor all waited for Monferno to open his eyes.
Nurse Joy smiled as Monferno quickly perked up and was feeling much better.
"Monferno!"Monferno responded confidently.
"I think we can relax now."Nurse Joy declared.
"Monferno! That's excellent!"Brock complemented.
Monferno cheered and gave thumbs up to Pikachu and the others causing all of them to cheer to see him all better.
Outside...
Ash was still sulking over his most recent loss to Paul since he was expecting to beat his rival this time, but didn't.
"Paul."Ash thought with a troubled expression. "I lost to Paul."
Denise slowly approached Ash and saw down at his side to wait for him to say something.
"I really was expecting to beat Paul and win this time, Dennie."Ash spoke up.
"I know, Ash."Denise responded and handed him the chocolate croissant she made for him. "But during the battle, I notice how ready Paul was and...you actually did some mistakes."
"What do you mean?"Ash asked.
"Ash, think about it."Denise instructed. "You should've never used Grotle against Paul's Honchkrow because grass types are bad match up against flying types. But not only that Paul analysed everything he knew from your pokemon and the previous battles that he had against you. That was why he ended up winning instead of you."
Ash's lowered his head down, knowing Denise was right.
"Aw man."Ash muttered as he munched on his dessert. "Your right, Dennie. I messed up big time."
"Well, all you can do now is learn from it."Denise stated as she stood up and smiled at something. "But now it's the time for you to get back with your pokemon."
Ash rolled over to his side and noticed Pikachu standing beside him, not the least bit upset.
"Pikachu?"Ash said in surprise.
"Pika pi."Pikachu remarked.
Ash noticed Monferno, Buizel, Gliscor, Grotle and Staraptor behind Pikachu.
"Everyone!"Ash exclaimed.
Pikachu, Monferno, Buizel, Gliscor, Grotle and Staraptor had their bandages on but were still chirpy and celebrating.
However their over-enthusiasm quickly gives way to their exhaustion causing Ash to sweat drop and Denise to smile sheepishly.
"Please, don't overdue it."Ash begged and started to laugh. "Okay. Your all trying to cheer me up."
A smirk spread up on Ash's face as he stood up.
"Right! I'm fine now!"Ash declared. "I'm not feeling sad one little bit! Paul sure is tough. He has his own way of becoming strong and I got to admit he gave us his all. That's how he got stronger in the first place. But hey, we're going to get stronger too! It's not going to be easy though. So there is only one thing to do! We're going to have to work harder than Paul and when we meet up with him again! We're going to beat that guy! What do you say gang?"
Pikachu, Monferno, Buizel, Gliscor, Grotle and Staraptor all cheered at Ash before rushing forward to give him a group hug, knocking him to the ground.
All the pokemon laughed together, reaffirming their loyalty and friendship with their trainer.
"Looks all of them are with you, Ash."Denise chuckled.
"Thanks by the way, Dennie."Ash admitted. "Your a great friend."
"A friend."Denise thought with a small smile. "But I am more than that, right?"
As the group continued to head back to the Pokemon Center, Ash's stomach began to rumble causing him to laugh in embarssment.
"Oops!"Ash responded with a awkward expression. "Guess forgot to eat something today!"
This caused Ash to get another bout of laughter from his Pokemon while Denise smiled and shook her head.
The group headed inside the Pokemon Center where Brock was talking to Dawn and Nurse Joy.
"Hey, guys!"Ash responded. "We're back!"
"Ash! Dennie! Brock just told us, he saw it!"Dawn replied.
Brock nodded in agreement causing Ash and Denise to become interested.
"What he saw, sis?"Denise asked.
In the Pokemon Center's Small Library...
Ash, Dawn and Denise looked up the computer as Brock and Nurse Joy looked at the shelves of books for answers.
Nurse Joy finds an illustration in her book of the Lake guardians and pointed out to Brock the one of Uxie.
"The Pokemon that you saw in Lake Acuity was it this one?"Nurse Joy asked, pointing at Uxie's image.
"That's it!"Brock agreed. "But now that I think about it, the thing that I saw was more of a shadow than the actual pokemon itself."
"It sounds to me that is the spirit of Uxie that you saw."Dawn responded. "Just like the time me and Dennie saw Mesprit in Lake Verity."
"And just how I saw Azelf in Lake Valor."Ash added.
"Now according to this book, it says that all three pokemon might actually come from the same Egg. It also says that Uxie was afford as the being of Knowledge called the wisdom to solve problems. From Mesprit called the being of Emotion brings the joys of life and Azelf the being of Willpower comes to resolve whatever task it might be at hand. And its the powers of these three that keeps the world in balance. At least thats what this book is saying."
"To think these three are Legendary Pokemon and the four of us saw them."Dawn commented.
"We saw them alright."Ash agreed.
"Pika pika."Pikachu said.
"Prinplup."Prinplup chirped.
"Could it have been an accident or all these actually mean something?"Brock questioned.
"Its mysterious thats for sure."Nurse Joy agreed.
Denise remained quiet as she looked down.
"Does that mean the shadow pokemon that I'm seeing in my sleep mean something as well?"Denise thought with a troubled look.
Denise snapped out of her thoughts when Ash suddenly started laughing.
"I'm not sure why but this is getting kind of fun!"Ash laughed and looked at Pikachu. "Right, Pikachu?"
"Pika!"Pikachu agreed.
"I'm not sure fun is the right word for this."Denise mumbled quietly.
"Did you say something, Dennie?"Ash asked.
"Nothing."Denise responded with a bright smile. "It's absolutely nothing."
"Anyway there is something the two of us want to show you!"Dawn remarked.
"Prinplup!"Prinplup agreed.
Ash and Pikachu looked at other in confusion.
Afterwards...
Later Ash and the others gathered to watch Dawn and Denise's show in the lobby.
Dawn wore her usual contest pink dress while Denise wore the suit she wore during the Solaceon Town Contest with a matching hat on her head.
"Warm greetings, ladies and gentlemen!"Dawn and Denise greeted in unison.
"We would like to start off our proceedings by thanking you all very much for coming to see the Twinleaf Sisters' Pokemon Circus!"
"Wonder what the girls are up to this time?"Ash said with a smile.
"You see both Dawn and Denise have been working hard practicing this performance just to cheer you up."Nurse Joy whispered. "And you'll love it."
"This is for us?"Ash asked.
Pikachu smiled. "Pikachu."
"That's right."Denise answered with a wink. "Now, keep your eyes open, we will begin our circus with a feat of pure acrobatic skill!"
Dawn and Denise moved out of the way to reveal Mamoswine wearing a pompon on his head while Buneary and Pachirisu wore their cheerleading outfits.
Buneary and Pachirisu do acrobatic skills before leaping above Mamoswine to pull funny faces and pose for a comedic routine.
"Oh, wow!"Ash said in surprise.
Denise throws her top hat between Buneary and Pachirisu, which causes Kirlia to come out of the hat and pose for her friends causing them to cheer.
"Now everyone, pose!"Dawn ordered.
Buneary, Kirlia and Pachirisu pose with Mamoswine, who sticks his tongue out to do a funny face too.
Ash, Brock, Nurse Joy and their pokemon cheered at the act.
"Now for our next act!"Denise declared. "Come out, Prinplup and Torchic!"
Prinplup and Torchic walked on stage in patchy clown outfits to speak to the two sisters.
"Prinplup prinplup."Prinplup chirped.
"Torchic."Torchic agreed with a confident expression.
"Whoa, you two say can do that?"Dawn asked. "Then go right on ahead then."
Prinplup picked up Torchic and started twirling him around like he was a spinning ball and sent him in the air.
However the Chick Pokemon began get dizzy and causing Kirlia to twirl down on one of Mamoswine's tusks to catch Torchic to save the show.
"Well done!"Dawn and Denise remarked. "Now pose!"
Prinplup, Buneary, Kirlia, Pachirisu and Mamoswine pose while doing funny faces causing them to earn laughters and cheers.
"And now for-"Denise started.
Denise got interrupted when Team Rocket arrived wearing their working disguises.
"Hey, aren't they the cleaning crew?"Nurse Joy asked.
"Wow, thisoughta be good!"Ash exclaimed excitedly.
"Ahem, testing testing, one two three…now how many people do you see BUMPED OUT?!"
"Looks like we got a sour puss!"Meowth insulted.
"Hey!"Denise snapped with a glare. "You guys aren't part of the circus! Get off the stage!"
"Off the stage? How very rude!"James retorted. "Someone needs to work on her manners!"
"Forget manners! We just came what was ours!"Meowth sneered and took out a bazooka. "It's our super special patented Pikachu get net! Get set!"
Meowth launched an electric proof net from the bazooka and catches Pikachu.
"Pikachu!"Ash shouted.
"Who are you anyway?!"Nurse Joy demanded.
Team Rocket removed their disguises and recite their motto.
"If you don't know who we are, you'll know soon enough."
"Since the twerp gets depressed when the going gets rough."
"Shovel may care!"
"Pick a pair!"
"Want Pikachu? Well tough!"
"We bring chaos at a breakneck pace!"
"We dash all hope and bring fear in its place!"
"A rose by any other name's just as sweet!"
"When everything's worse, our work is complete!"
"Jessie!"
"And James!"
"Meowth's the name!"
"Putting the do-gooders in their place!"
"We're Team Rocket!"
"And we're in your face!"
"Wow!"Nurse Joy said with a smile. "What fun!"
"No!"Ash replied. "Your wrong, Nurse Joy!"
"Those guys are the bad guys!"Brock stated.
"That just terrible!"Nurse Joy gasped.
"Team Rocket!"Dawn growled.
"You idiots never stop!"Denise scowled.
"Give Pikachu back!"Ash demanded.
"If you think we're going to bicker with you when we could be shuffling off to success, you really area mess!"Jessie said evilly.
"We got happy feet!"Meowth cackled.
"Ain't it neat?!"Team Rocket remarked.
Team Rocket make a run for it causing Ash and his friends to chase after them.
"Hey, come back!"Ash shouted. "Gimme back Pikachu!"
"Stubborn twerps are the worst twerps!"Jessie retorted and pulled out her pokeball. "Seviper, attention!"
The pokeball opened causing Seviper to come out.
"Seviper!"
"Please dear, Haze!"Jessie ordered.
Jessie has her Seviper launch Haze to blind the heroes and their pokemon.
"Hope smoke gets in your eyes!"Jessie giggled.
"We'll say our goodbyes!"Meowth added.
"Buizel use Water Pulse!"Ash ordered. "Quick!"
Buizel used Water Pulse to negate Seviper's Haze.
"What a bore!"Jessie retorted bitterly.
"Pikachu, Thunderbolt!"Ash ordered. "Lets go!"
Pikachu tried to use Thunderbolt, but the net absorbed it.
"Keeping your attitude in the bag is what we'reall about!"Meowth cackled.
James and Jessie grinned in agreement.
"Now Gliscor, Sand Attack!"Ash ordered.
Gliscor flew low to the ground and threw sand at Team Rocket to stop them.
"Yanmega, you're on!"Jessie declared and threw out her second pokeball.
The pokeball causing Yanmega to come out of it.
"Yanmega!"
"Use Sonic Boom!"Jessie ordered.
Yanmega knocked Gliscor back with a Sonic Boom.
"Okay Carnivine! Time to take the reins!"James ordered and Carnivine came out to bite his trainer's head. "I didn't say brains, you poffin pinhead! I said reins!"
James threw Carnivine towards his foes.
"Carnivine, Bullet Seed!"James ordered.
Carnivine fired Bullet Seeds at the heroes.
"Alright, Grotle use Energy Ball!"Ash ordered. "Staraptor, you use Aerial Ace!"
James had Carnivine launch a Bullet Seed, but Staraptor's Aerial Ace and Grotle's Energy Ball knocks out both Yanmega and Carnivine, much to Team Rocket's shock.
"It's time to finish this up!"Ash stated. "Monferno, Mach Punch!"
Monferno followed up with Mach Punch to knock Team Rocket away and free Pikachu from the net.
"That was amazing!"Dawn remarked.
"Way da go, Ash!"Denise chuckled.
"Monferno's become a real powerhouse since he evolved!"Brock complemented.
Pikachu went out of the net causing him to rejoin Ash and the others.
"Pikachu."Ash said with a smile.
"Pika pi!"Pikachu answered happily.
Team Rocket frowned that their plan backfired.
"Even my gloves hurt."James complained.
"Whoever said that the twerp was bummed about his pokemon and would be an easy target is an absolute buffoon let me at that idiot."Jessie mumbled.
"You're the idiot."Meowth declared.
"Something about going after the weakest of the twerp herd."James agreed.
"Yeah and also something profound about plucking Pikachu while the iron is hot!"Meowth added.
"That would be our own Jessie!"James and Meowth stated in unison.
"Don't you make this myfault!"Jessie argued. "You bunch of babies are in denial and since you didn't stop me that makes it yourfault!"
Team Rocket stopped arguing when they notice Ash and his Pokemon smirking confidently at them.
"Well, such good health!"James said nervously.
"And you're all truly in the twerpish pink!"Jessie added.
"Now we're in trouble ding!"Meowth commented while sweat dropping.
"Buizel use Aqua Jet! And Staraptor, Aerial Ace! Let's go!"Ash ordered. "Alright! Grotle, Energy Ball! Gliscor, X-Scissor! Monferno use Flamethrower! Pikachu, Quick Attack! Go!"
Buizel, Staraptor, Grotle, Gliscor, Monferno and Pikachu do a group attack which sends Team Rocket blasting off.
"WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!"Team Rocket screamed and disappeared in the sky.
Ash and his Pokemon celebrate their victory as Denise, Dawn, Brock and Nurse Joy noticed that Ash was back on track.
"Now thatwas some serious teamwork."Brock stated.
"Sure was."Dawn agreed. "Nice to see everyone feeling great!"
"Prinplup."Prinplup chirped with a nod.
"This means Ash is back on track."Denise remarked kindly with her arms folded.
"Torchic."Torchic agreed.
Kirlia smiled. "Kirlia."
"You know, I just remembered something."Dawn admitted. "Ihave to get ready for my next Contest."
"So do I, Dawn."Denise added. "We both still need our fifth ribbons."
Nurse Joy looked at Dawn and Denise.
"So you two are competing in contests?"Nurse Joy asked.
"You bet!"Dawn and Denise agreed in unison.
"Then you both should head over to Lilypad Town right away."Nurse Joy insisted. "Their contest is going to take place very soon."
"Really?! That's so exciting!"Dawn responded with a smile.
"Guess we're going to Lilypad Town!"Denise declared in amusement.
Back at the Pokemon Center...
Nurse Joy gives the group southwards directions that will take them to Lilypad Town.
"This is Lilypad Town's location."Nurse Joy explained and pointed at the map of the town's location.
"Oh, I see."Brock said and checked his guidebook. "So all we have to do is head south right from here."
"Yeah."Ash agreed. "That looks right."
"Wow, Prinplup."Dawn complemented. "I'm so excited."
"So are we."Denise agreed with a nod.
"Torchic."Torchic tweeted happily.
Ash and Pikachu smiled at each other.
"And we're going to do great in our next battle, right Pikachu?"Ash asked.
"Pikachu."Pikachu replied with a smirk.
"Why don't we have a bite before you go?"Nurse Joy suggested. "After all, Pokemon Trainers and Coordinators need their strength."
"Right!"Ash, Brock, Dawn and Denise said in unison.
Pikachu, Prinplup and Torchic cheered in agreement.
