(After 'The Secret in the Siege')

Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.

I don't own Bones.

By the time Booth arrived at the crime scene, he found that a perimeter had been set up around the house by the D.C. police, blocking the street in the front of the house. Cam and Brennan were in the basement with Harris standing by taking notes, while Hodgins was waiting to enter the room when the three had left the room.

"Booth, the room is small and only three people can get in there at a time." Hodgins was studying the scratch marks on the floor. "Just looking at these scratches, I'd say whoever used the room built it quite a while ago. If he was trying to hide this room he should have put up another wall in front of it and removed the scratches in the floor. That's what I would have done."

Giving the man an odd look, Booth finally shook his head and leaned into the room. "What do you think?"

"Blood stains on the floor, this table, the wall, on the shelves." Cam shook her head. "We found some dried flesh on the floor below the stains on the wall." Cam glanced at the chains and cuffs screwed into the back wall. "I'd say this room was used as some sort of torture chamber. I recommend we check the back yard for bodies."

"And the woods across the street." Brennan felt that the owner of the house may have tried to distance some of the bodies from his house. "We should also have a cadaver dog come in and see if the basement floor is covering up bodies."

Because he didn't want Booth to waste any time, Harris interrupted the conversation. "I've arranged for a cadaver dog to be here tomorrow morning at nine. We can see if the dog can find anything in the yard and in the woods across the street as well before we start digging."

"Good idea." Booth gazed around the basement then leaned back into the room. "Those woods are right next to the French Embassy. If the activity at this house hasn't bothered them yet, searching the woods might get a response."

"But you'll let the dog search, won't you?" Hodgins didn't want Booth backing down from the French. This was a murder investigation and he didn't believe anyone had a right to stop them.

"Of course." Aware that it was late, Booth felt that Hodgins and the techs should be given the room and Cam and Brennan should go home. "Since we don't have any bodies yet, let's let Hodgins and the techs work on the room and the basement and see what they find. If the cadaver dog finds any bodies tomorrow then you can come back and supervise the excavation of the bodies."

It seemed the best use of every ones time to Cam. "Alright, if there are bodies, we'll need the FBI techs, some of my interns, myself and Brennan. I don't know if I'm hoping the dog finds a body or not. These blood stains on the walls and floor mean there was more than one victim. If the killer didn't bury them around here, then God knows where they are."

That's what worried Booth. "Let's wait and see what happens tomorrow before we worry about where the bodies are. In the meantime, I don't want anyone talking to the press. I want to get some more information before I go see the previous owner of this house."

Harris agreed. "I think we should find out where the owner is and have a policeman or an agent keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't run."

"Handle it." That was a good idea. The last thing Booth wanted was for the owner of the house to take a flight out of the country. "If it looks like he's planning on taking a trip, bring him in."

"Got it." After he glanced at the blood stained table, Harris left the room to make a phone call.

Since there wasn't anything they could do for now, Brennan and Cam left the room, removed their latex gloves and the booties covering their shoes then picked up their kits from the floor near the staircase. "Hodgins take as many samples as you can from each wall, the table, the floor and the shelves in the room. We can run DNA tests and see if we can determine who was in the room."

Ready to get to work, Hodgins entered the room with one of the FBI techs. While he went to work on the table, he had the tech collect samples from the shelves. "It's going to be long night."

Home, Booth checked his watch and noticed it was now past two in the morning. As quiet as they could be, Booth and Brennan ate a sandwich, drank some water then prepared for bed. They didn't want to wake Jared or their daughter, so they moved down the hallway and into their bedroom quietly closing the door behind them.

"God, I'm tired." It had been a long day and he needed to be back at the crime scene by eight. He wanted to be there when the cadaver dog showed up. The alarm clock set, he took a quick shower and retired to his bed.

Brennan knew that if bodies were found she might be working some long hours, so showered as soon as she could and joined Booth in bed. "I'm surprised that someone who may have killed people in his basement would sell his house. Hiding the room makes no sense. He should have cleaned the room thoroughly. He has left a lot of evidence behind."

His arm draped over his eyes Booth responded. "That's why prisons are full. Criminals take shortcuts or don't think things through." Yawning, he lowered his arm, leaned over and kissed Brennan. "Night."

Returning his kiss, Brennan wished they had time for sex, but they needed sleep. "Perhaps we will be able to finish this case before we go on vacation."

"Vacation!" Booth knew that if this case turned out to be the work of a serial killer there would be no vacation for him. "Yeah, um . . . we'll see."

Jared found his brother in the kitchen eating a slice of toast while his eggs were frying. "Hey, what time did you guys get in?" Moving over to the coffee pot, he found it full and filled a cup.

"About two." His eggs done, Booth transferred the eggs to a plate, placed two slices of bread in the toaster for Brennan and carried his plate over to the table. "It was as bad as you said it was, worse really. The pictures didn't do it justice." After pouring a cup of coffee into a mug, he carried it over to the table and sat down. "Bones is getting Christine ready to go to day care. Thanks for watching Christine last night."

"No problem." Jared opened the fridge, removed three eggs and cracked them open in the skillet Booth had just used. "Padme had to finish grading papers and she had to write a test, so she stayed home. Christine woke up about one, I changed her diaper, gave her some water and she went back to sleep. She's not hard to take care of."

Amused, Booth chuckled. "You caught her on a good night." Christine usually woke two or three times a night, so Booth felt that Jared had hit it lucky. "You can't go back to the house, it's a crime scene now. Don't let the people that hired you know yet. Give me a day to check on a few things, I have a cadaver dog being brought in at nine to look for bodies. I'll know by the end of the day if there are bodies there. You can tell your clients that they might want to skip the house tomorrow and look for something else."

"Got it." Jared slid his now cooked eggs on a plate and carried it and his cup of coffee over to the table. "I'm pretty sure they don't want a charnel house anyway. I know I wouldn't."

"No probably not." Booth noticed Brennan enter the room with Christine in her arms. "Want me to feed her while you eat? I made you toast and the coffee is ready, if Jared didn't drink it all."

Ignoring his brother, Jared pointed at Christine. "Let me feed her. I need the practice. Padme and I might be parents someday."

Removing two jars of baby food from the cabinet, Brennan placed them on the table with a spoon and settled her baby in the highchair. "If you wish. I'll fix her bottle while you feed her. She has a robust appetite."

After the bottle was ready, she placed it on the table, grabbed two cups of vegan yogurt from the fridge, removed her toast from the toaster, poured a cup of coffee and sat down at the table next to Booth. "I'll be at the Lab this morning. If any bodies are found, let me know and I'll go back to the crime scene."

"Will do." Finished with breakfast, Booth placed his plate, knife and fork in the dishwasher along with the skillet he'd used to fry the eggs. After he wiped down the stove and counters, he left the room to retrieve his gun and his ID. Back in the kitchen, he poured coffee in a travel mug and placed an apple in his jacket pocket. "Jared, remember, don't talk to the people that hired you or anyone else today about the house. You'll be free to talk to them tomorrow."

"I won't." Annoyed, Jared shook his head. "You got to trust me, Bro. I'm the one that told you about what I found. I know what to do."

Amused, Booth winked at Brennan. "And I thanked you for telling me." Checking his watch, he kissed Brennan and the top of Christine's head. "Got to go. I'll call you later Bones and let you know what's going on."

Once his brother was gone, Jared finished feeding his niece while Brennan ate her breakfast. "You guys are like a smooth running machine. Padme and me usually rush around like crazy in the morning and leave a mess behind."

"Booth and I have come up with a routine that keeps us on time." Brennan stood up, placed her spoon in the dishwasher, threw the empty yogurt cups in the trash, poured a cup of coffee into a travel mug and turned off the coffee maker. Sitting at the table again, she waited for Jared to finish feeding her baby. "I'll drop off Christine at Day Care on my way to work. You may stay here as long as you like. You can fill a travel mug with the rest of the coffee if you wish to. Use the mug near the machine. It's an extra one."

"Thanks. I need to drive home, change my clothes and go to work." Jared cleaned Christine's face and smiled. "She really does like to eat." Standing he handed the baby to Brennan. "If you ever need a sitter, let me know. Christine is a little doll."

Though she didn't care for that expression, Brennan didn't say anything since she knew it was meant as a compliment. "Thank you for watching over Christine."

Once he was alone, Jared placed his plate in the dishwasher along with his fork, wiped down the table and turned off the kitchen light. He had liked taking care of the baby and hoped he and Padme had one of their own someday.
