Chapter 145

.

Vltaire once said "A tyrant will devote himself fully to any god, religious or otherwise, that allows him to tyranize. As anti-alien hatred rose, the haters seemed to find religious leaders who supported their hatred. President Odonnell well remembered reverand Walker and others from the religious right. Walker's first marriage fell apart because of his adultery, yet he claimed that gay marriage meant "The guns of Hell are aimed at the american family." He also stirred up hatred of muslims, claiming that the prophet Muhammed had been an agent of Hell. It was suprisingly easy for Walker to adapt to hating alien refugees, he already had a long history of hating refugees, this was simply a new form of that. And there were others, genuine agents of Hell. They had been preachers in their old worlds, but not neccessarily of christianity. There was Istafan, the electe magistrate of a city state that worshipped the muse Caliope, and yet outlawed dancing. He claimed to be a rightous man, yet was willing to use torture and murder to stay in power. He was eventually voted out of office and exiled. And Imuru, a priest of the sumerian gods and advisor to king Gilgamesh. Imuru was also a misogyist, when Nebula showed him up in public, he was willing to sacrifie her to the evil god Dahak. Apparently Imuru was flexible on which gods to worship, provided he had power and women were oppressed. And ofcourse there was Agnus McDonough, also known as Brother Love. Agnus had been a ruthless businessman and abusive father. When he was turned into a zombie, he turned this into an opportunity, selling brains to other zombies. Eventually Agnus was driven insane and founded the first ever zombie church, claiming that humans were just food and God favored only zombies. Agnus, Imuru, and Istafan had been brought to this new world, and adapted to Walker's extreme version of christianity. Despite being alien refugees themselves, they were preaching hatred. This was likely Evil's plan, to keep stirring up hatred, convince more and more people to do evil acts and damn themselves for all eternity. Although there were rational minds, these agents of intolerance were convincing more and more people to abandon wisdom for madness. There were noble preachers who convinced people to resist Evil, to accept and welcome refugees. They might not be able to save everyone, but they could light a candle instead of merely cursing the darkness.
