Chapter 155

.

President Odonnell was negotiating an official alliance with the Ambassador. Ofcourse any such treaty would have to ratified by the Congress of America and the Council of Antarctica. Some in Antarctica were uneasy about this alliance. Charles Xavier and Magneto discussed this situation.

.

Magneto: The world has always hated our kind, until we can be useful to them.

Xavier: Believe me I know. Even in the best of circumstances, we were always just one bad day away from humanity turning against us.

Magneto: Yes, your team of heroes, Xmen, helped our cause better than I thought they would. Still, you were smart enough to leave my resettlement project of Genosha alone. Mostly.

Xavier: I cannot excuse what the government of Genosha did to mutants, but your side went to extremes at times.

Magneto: As always I did what I felt was neccessary for the survival of our species. Nothing more, nothing less. I do appreciate your acting as mediator to end the conflict, establishing ourselves with a good portion of Genosha. And I kept my word about allowing non mutants to live in peace in the other territory. But with Antarctica, there was no native population to expell.

Xavier: You still wish to establish a mutant homeworld in territory here?

Magneto: Yes. If this war is inevitable, suppossedly those of us who survive will all be able to live in peace. Maybe that will happen, but the realist in me tends to doubt it. We therefore should establish a mutant homeworld here, while there's still plenty of territory in Antarctica for both sides.

Xavier: I agree.

Magneto: Really.

Xavier: I still have hope that peace and coexistance can happen for all. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Magneto: Well said my friend. During the second world war, the zionists in Palestine were willing to call for ceasefire with the british, even fight in the british army, because they all had a commn enemy. This was done when the british made assurances that they would support a jewish state after the war. Perhaps we should make a similar alliance now. We fight against Evil, with America and other nations, fight alongside humans. In return we get a portion of Antarctica after this conflict ends.

Xavier: That sounds reasonable. I believe I can negotiate the specifics, act as a fairly neutral mediator between you and the Ambassador.

Magneto: Fair enough, I trust you to make sure both sides keep up their respective ends of this bargain.

Xavier: I won't use my powers to force either side to do anything.

Magneto: You won't be offended that I keep this helmut on?

Xavier: Fair enough, just make sure that your side doesn't break the truce, or I will not be able to sell the mutant homeland to the Council.

Magneto: Understood.
