Chapter 160

.

Professor Xavier helped mediate negotiations between Magneto and the Ambassador. A portion of Antarctica would be set aside for a mutant homeworld, and the mutants would fight against Evil, with America. But there were those who oppossed this agreement. Magneto's new friend Joe warned him against this.

.

Joe: It is not wise to make an alliance unless you already define terms. Try to define the boundries of this mutant homeworld before agreeing to fight for America.

Magneto: We have a common enemy, and I trust Charles to help work out the details.

Joe: You believe he will be fair to all sides?

Magneto: Yes.

Joe: And what of your other allies, Kilmonger, Doctor Doom?

Magneto: Antarctica is a big place, and the three of us have agreed to support each other. One state specifically for mutants, another specifically for refugees from Hell. This is one reason why Charles is so vital, all the sides trust him.

Joe: And you trust them, even though they are not mutants?

Magneto: Yes, I at least trust them to realize that this alliance is in all of our best interests. Incidentally, why are you so concerned with the welfare of mutants? I have seen bleeding heart humans who talk like radicals, who are genuinly worried about my people. But you look down on these bleeding hearts.

Joe: I have my reasons.

Magneto: You look a little familiar, you said you're from Brooklyn originally?

Joe: Yes, I was. Perhaps we have seen each other before.

Magneto: I believe we have. I remember, after I came to America after the war. I heard a young rabbi speak about how his people should move to Israel to avoid a potential holocaust.

Joe: That sounds like me. Like you, I was willing to do what I had to do for my people.

Magneto: And yet, when Egypt offered peace to Israel, you fought against this peace.

Joe: I knew there could ever be peace, and we must continue to fight for our survival. I take it you have figured out who I am.

Magneto: Rabbi Meir Kahana. Now I am willing to respect a man who dose what must be done, during a war. But I have little respect for someone who wants to continue a war when their enemies offer peace. Which brings me back to the question, why are you so concerned with the welfare of mutants?

Joe: I recognize the need for allies in this world. I understand why I could never be truley welcome in your mutant homeworld, but perhaps we can work together.

Magneto: Perhaps, but towards what end?

Joe: You would have a mutant homeworld, and my people can have Israel, our ancestoral homeland.

Magneto: Ancestoral homeland? It is hard to believe that this version of Israel is the ancestoral homeland to all jews from every reality.

Joe: Than you have lost touch with your jewish roots.

Magneto: Perhaps I have. I do understand the logic of a jewish homeland as a matter of survival. Personally I always thought e should have done this in Germany, take the land from the very people who tried to exterminate us. But that's just my opinion. And I see no reason why we cannot have a jewish homeland here in Antarctica.

Joe: It is not the holy land.

Magneto: Good, people will have less reason to want to drive you out. You want my help on that, I will help. But I will not support someone who wants to keep a war going when peace is a viable option. I'd like to think I can learn from my mistakes.
