Just as Banpresto & Namco/Bandai did with Super Robot Wars T, I wanted to include Expansion Scenarios, a sort of post-game if you will – and bringing in original characters from previous SRW games. However, I will be adding one new series, sidelining a large number of older ones, and include the events of a few sequel series/movies. Who will they be? Find out today!
Expansion Scenario Prologue
So, IT got out...and after all that effort we went into creating that prison reality for its core essence.
Do you think Tru'nembra knew we imprisoned it here? It's the only reason I can think of that they chose this particular multiverse for Nyog'Sothep to feed on.
I doubt it. He only thinks of his mindless masters' immediate needs. It was just pure dumb luck that he found Nyog'Sothep's sibling.
I guess we'd better find it and imprison it again. Any idea of where you think it went?
Knowing our enemy, it's likely gotten word of its sibling's absolute mauling by that lot, and is going to go ruin everything they set out to make...and with their societies still trying to adjust to their new realities, it'll be ripe for it to sow chaos and madness from the inside.
So, I guess that means we'll have to enter those realities as well, Al.
It's been too many eternities since we assumed four-dimensional forms...but that honestly excites me! It'll be just like when we first met...right, Kurou?
The year is Celestial Calendar 200.
Three years ago, DREAM, a group of heroes from two different worlds fought to change the Earth Sphere. They succeeded in bringing down the elements who would have led them to ultimate annihilation. The United Federation of Nations, founded as a result of DREAM's efforts, arose as the greatest power in this new world order. As the Earth Sphere adjusts to the changes, the warriors of DREAM have, for the most part, gone their separate ways in order to help the world in their own individual fashions.
The former ruling powers on Earth - the Holy Empire of Britannia, the Atlantic Federation and the Chinese Federation – have all broken up into smaller independent nations that eventually joined the UFN. Britannia in particular, without any territories outside of its homeland, has rechristened itself as the Principality of Britannia. Only a few holdouts remain outside the UFN's fold – one of which is the small nation of Zilkhistan, which is known for the disproportionate strength of its military relative to its tiny size – it had repelled the mighty Britannian Empire in the past, and its dependence on war for its people's livelihood.
Meanwhile the organization GGG, now dubbed the Gutsy Global Guard, and the reformed Nerv, now led by Misato Katsuragi, have spent time studying the fossilized giants that were found in the recently unveiled Valley of Kadmon. However, more of these giants were discovered beneath what was once Antarctic ice, having been revealed after the apocalyptic Fourth Impact – one of the few effects of which DREAM was unable to reverse. Meanwhile, GGG has devoted much of its resources to harnessing Jupiter's energy - THE POWER -for peaceful ends. However, it suffered a tragic setback in late CC 197: most of GGG's core members, who had fought as DREAMers, were mysteriously swallowed by the gas giant - as was Nergal's warship, the Nadesico. Mamoru Amami and Kaidou Ikumi had reappeared a day or two after the group had disappeared, but the rest have not been seen since. And now, almost two-and-a-half years later, Jupiter has started to act very peculiarly.
In the space closer to home, an uneasy peace between the nations of Earth and the space colonies of PLANT reigns. Radical elements of both sides still engage in skirmishes and commit terrorist acts in hopes of restarting the war between Natural and Coordinators, while DREAM's space forces struggle to maintain this hard-won peace. The orbiting city of Macross continues to serve as a neutral ground between Earth and space, and its Variable Fighters also serve as a peacekeeping force when the need calls for it. Its most famous residents, the band Fire Bomber, have continued to play all over the Earth Sphere, particularly in support of the numerous peaceful causes that the new governments are espousing.
The resettlement of Mars began in earnest, with the surviving Jovians who had been living on Macross working with other colonists from other parts of the Earth Sphere to make the red planet a better place to live. With the increased use of boson jump technology, transportation to and from Mars has become easier.
In the midst of all this, the Knight of Five and Duchess of New Albany, Tara Zifell, is preparing to start university, having spent the past three years working to stabilize the Areas. Her would-be husband Janus has remained a steadfast support for her in these times, as has her family, including Britannia's Prime Minister, Cedric Zifell. Little does she realize that their battle from three years ago has awakened something...
"They're here! They're here!" Tara Zifell, Duchess of New Albany and Britannia's Knight of Five squealed as she raced through the halls of her family's mansion just outside Tokyo before bursting into the room she shared with her boyfriend, Janus. She was carrying two large envelopes addressed to them, and he was playing a video game.
"Janus, they're here!" she said excitedly, bouncing up and down with excitement.
"What's here?" Janus asked as he paused the game.
"Our acceptance letters to Miskatonic University, silly," his girlfriend said, shoving one of the envelopes into his hands. "We got in!"
"Miskatonic University?" the young man said, not having heard the name before. As he said this, an older man dressed in a fine tuxedo said, suddenly appearing at the doorway.
"It is one of the finest institutions of higher learning in the Emp...erm, Principality," the man said, correcting himself.
"Thank you for that, Porter," Tara sighed, "but I really could have explained that myself." With that, Tara began to open her envelope.
"How do you know they're not rejection letters?" Janus asked.
"They wouldn't send a rejection letter in such a big envelope," Tara said. "There's other forms we have to fill out too." She lifted out a small sheaf of papers from her envelope while Janus began to open his.
"Seeeeeeee?" the Duchess said as she flashed the papers in Janus' face "It says..."
"I can read it just fine, Your Grace," Janus grumbled, addressing his beloved as one would address a high-ranking noble, but in a sarcastic tone. He knew that Tara couldn't stand it when he specifically called her that – and her slight pout in response validated him once again.
"While I am most certain Lady Tara could have gotten in on her merits alone," Porter said, "virtually every scion of the Zifell family has attended their undergraduate studies at Miskatonic."
"Yep," Tara said. "My dad went to college there for his undergraduate studies. He was good friends with the school's president too."
"But it is you who deserve congratulations, Master Janus," the butler then said.
"Yeah," the purple-haired girl said, "you were barely reading on a fourth grade level when I met you, even if you did know a few big words. Harry Ord's tutoring really did the trick!"
Having incorporated the memories and knowledge of all the alternate selves probably helped too, Janus thought as someone else entered the room – Tara's uncle Cedric Zifell.
"Ah, Duchess!" Cedric said, "I heard you running around in excitement, so I came to see what all the hubbub was."
"Uncle Cedric!" Tara said; "Janus and I got accepted into Miskatonic University!"
"I never doubted that," Cedric said with a nod; "But I do hear that they're still a bit old-fashioned, especially when it comes to admitting former Numbers. You may be Duchess, but your mother was still a mere 'Honorary Britannian'. I'm sure they would have tried to use that as an excuse to deny you had they known that."
"I know," Tara sighed, "the only reason they're accepting former Numbers at all is because of Her Majesty's edict."
"You're certainly the spitting image of your grandmother, rest her soul," Porter said, "I doubt they'd know there's a drop of Japanese blood in you."
"Like I'm gonna hide it," Tara said with a confident sneer. "Nippon banzai, baby!"
I wish I could be so confident with my own origins, Janus thought.
"Help me, big bro!" Mamoru Amami cried as he suddenly sat up in bed in a sweat.
It was a recurring nightmare he had on and off over the past two-and-a-half years – he would be strapped into one of King J-Der's two remaining ES Missiles, his body covered in bruises and wounds. He would hear the voice of his big bro Guy trying to assure him that he and the rest of GGG would make it back somehow. Then the hatch would close, and the missile would be fired. But as he returned to normal space, he would find himself floating in Jupiter's orbit, gazing upon a twisted parody of the heroic Genesic GaoGaiGar surging forth from the gas giant's atmosphere. As he watched, the massive entity would reach out to grab him...it would always be then that he would wake up.
And its name would always linger in his mind – Overlord.
He had just turned 12 when that happened, and now he was approaching his 15th birthday. And with the passing of the years, Mamoru began to experience his body's transition into manhood. Even though he had been a Destruction Machine created by his real father Cain, he had been allowed grow and mature like a normal being...and with that maturity came a new sense of duty and responsibility.
Today, Mamoru would take his first steps in Guy Shishioh's shoes as a hero. He glanced at his clock.
Oh crap, I'm gonna be laaaaaaaaate!
He frantically rushed over to his closet, pulled out his GGG uniform and put it out as fast as he could, grabbed a bag full of other gear for the day, then rushed downstairs. His adoptive parents, Isamu and Ai Amami, were having breakfast.
"Good morning, Mamoru," Ai said as her son came barreling down the stairs. "You overslept."
"I know, I know!" Mamoru cried as he rushed over to the refrigerator, opened it and grabbed a bowl of rice and some fish and proceeded to wolf it down at breakneck speed; "It wash dat shtupid nitemaya agin!"
"Oh dear," Isamu said; "and today's such an important day. You need to be completely on top of your game if you're going to fill Guy's shoes!" As Mamoru swallowed his last mouthful of food, he wiped his mouth, got up and started toward the door.
"It's just a test for Final Fusion," the young man replied as he opened the door, "I'll be fine. Besides, Ikumi will be with me. Okay, I'll see you later, love you, bye!" But as he stepped out the door, he heard his mother call out to him.
"No kiss goodbye for your dear mother?" she said. Mamoru rolled his eyes, ran back and pecked his mother on the cheek before dashing out the door.
Once we perfect GaiGo's Final Fusion into GaoGaiGo, Mamoru thought as he rushed down the street, Kaidou and I can open the way so big bro Guy and the others can all get home!
But as he ran, he saw a red light appear in the sky that was clearly no aircraft or flying mecha. It was too far for him to make out its exact nature, and it disappeared too quickly to sense if it was anything malevolent.
"That was weird," the young man thought out loud. "Well, if whatever that was turns out to be trouble, I'm sure I'll find out at base." He glanced at his phone.
"Crap, even later than I thought," he muttered. "Guess I'll have to fly." He closed his eyes and sprang into the air as he ran, changing into his flying form at the peak of his leap before taking off toward his destination. Little did he realize that the source of that red light would become a critical factor in the events to come...
The green-haired witch C.C. had seen a lot since she parted ways with Lelouch three years ago. In her anonymous wanderings, she saw so much good, and yet still so much bad. Of course, that was what she expected – even DREAM had acknowledged that they still had a lot of work to do in order to truly improve their world.
Now her wanderings had taken her back to Japan, where she and the prince had first met, and where the revolution that had shaped the world into its current form had begun. She couldn't help but wonder where that extraordinary young man was now. Was he still fighting in secret as the masked savior, Zero?
She would soon find out – it took a little doing, but the witch managed to find the apartment that Lelouch and his girlfriend Shirley had supposedly settled into together. She rang the doorbell, then adjusted her pack of belongings.
But the person to answer the door was not Lelouch, but Nunnally.
"C.C.!" Lelouch's little sister exclaimed happily. "You're back!"
"Hello again, Nunnally," C.C. said pleasantly. "Still living with your brother?"
"No, I'm just visiting him for today," Nunnally replied. "I'm still living on the Ashford campus."
"Is Lelouch here?" the witch asked. Suddenly, she heard a great metallic clatter coming from inside.
"What was that?" she asked. "Is everything all right!"
"WAAAAAAAAAAAH!" a cry came from inside...one that seemed like a child's cry, but was too deep to be a child. The princess looked away awkwardly.
"No-no-no!" another voice cried – one that C.C. recognized as Shirley's; "Put that down!"
"Lelouch is..." Nunnally said anxiously, but couldn't bring herself to finish the sentence. Fearing the worst, C.C. pushed her way past Nunnally to see what was going on. She soon arrived in a small kitchen where Shirley was doing her best to calm someone down – Lelouch. He was holding a frying pan, a look of sheer terror on his face as a fly buzzed around the room.
"Take it easy, Lulu!" Shirley cried. "It's not going to hurt you!" As the fly drew closer to Lelouch, he cried out, flung the pan at the harmless insect, nearly striking his girlfriend by accident before dropping to the ground in a scared position of abject fear.
"What in the world...?" C.C. muttered as Shirley hurried over to Lelouch and hugged him in an effort to calm him down as he whimpered.
"C.C. is here, Shirley," Lelouch's sister said. "
"Shirley," the green-haired witch said, "what in the world happened to Lelouch? Why is he acting like a little toddler?"
"We're not sure why this happened," the red-haired girl answered. "But it all started about four months ago. Lelouch was preparing dinner for us when he started getting this weird headache. The next thing I knew, he was screaming in agony, trying to tell something to get out of his head before falling unconscious. When he woke up, he started acting this way, and has been ever since."
C.C. looked back at the cowering, terrified Lelouch. The mastermind behind DREAM, the hero who used the power of Geass to change the world...had been reduced to this.
"He can barely do anything himself," Nunnally said, agonized as much as the witch at her brother's state. "It took Shirley two months to teach him how to walk again, and six weeks to toilet train him. We still have to spoon-feed him a lot, and dress him too. Obviously, we can't have any other company."
"I would have been happy to take care of my Lulu for the rest of my life," Shirley said tearfully, "but not like this!"
"Is there anything you can do, C.C.?" Nunnally asked. "With Nemo gone, you're the only one we could turn to...we think it's related to Geass somehow."
"What makes you say that?" C.C. asked.
"Something appeared on his body the moment he started to act like this," Shirley said. "It's right on his breastbone." As C.C. looked back at Lelouch, a feeling she had thought long-gone came surging back.
"Let me see him," the witch said. Shirley nodded and helped Lelouch stand as the witch approached them. The young man started to cry out in fear at his old friend's approach.
"It's okay, Lelouch!" C.C. said gently; "I'm your friend C.C. - I won't hurt you." Somehow reassured by the witch's gentle words, Lelouch calmed down enough to allow her to pull down the collar of his shirt.
Sure enough, there was something there – a symbol of Geass. She immediately thought back to the moment where Lelouch had used The Zero to destroy Charles and Marianne, and then to Raziel's revelation about what Atik Yomin had planned for the prince.
A Code, C.C. thought as it all came together in her mind. He must have unconsciously taken it from Charles at that moment. It might be the reason why he's acting like this...but what made it awaken right then?
"I know this will sound like a strange request," C.C. said as she stepped back; "But please, let me take him with me. I might be able to help him, but I can't do it here in Japan." Nunnally and Shirley looked at each other.
"All right," Nunnally said. "I'll trust you to care of my big brother." Shirley nodded and smiled a little.
"I won't betray that trust," the witch said. Lelouch gazed at C.C., wondering what all this talk of going somewhere was about...
In the other world, the year is either Universal Century 0095 or Demon Calendar Year 2, depending on who you ask.
Two years ago, mankind was nearly driven to extinction. The Demon Tribe, an ancient race of monsters, appeared and drove humanity to madness by possessing humans and making the survivors turn against each other out of sheer fear. However, not all of the humans possessed turned into demons – some retained their human hearts, instead becoming Devilmen. But it turned out that the demons were once humans themselves, and thanks to DREAM, they regained the humanity they had lost millions of years ago, and now look back in horror at the deeds they committed. But the damage was done – the old Earth Federation and Colony Nations are no more, and only a few hundred million humans remain. In place of the old order is a new one...one where humans, demons and Devilmen – the children of two different fallen moons - must work together to build a world that won't make the same mistakes in the past.
On Earth, the demons and Devilmen rule. Freed from the need for most technology by their powerful bodies, they have instead worked to build a society that lives in harmony with the scarred but recovering Earth. Ruled by the wise and just Maou Dante, who is aided by the far-seeing Psycho Jenny, they have managed to maintain relative peace while protecting and accommodating the humans who have chosen to remain on Earth. He rules from what was once Neo-Hong Kong, now the splendid twin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.
The peace between the old humans and the "new" humans can best be seen in Kamina City, which serves as a gateway between Earth and space, as well as a neutral ground where demons, Beastmen, and humans can associate without worry. Governed by Rossiu Adai, the already advanced city has become the cultural capital of the New Earth Federation.
However, not all members of both groups are so eager for peace – there are demons that still crave human flesh and humans whose hatred for the demons runs too deep. These forces have thankfully done little to disturb this new peace, but they keep its guardians ever vigilant.
In space, the Colonial Republic of Zeon, led by the former Zeon ace Char Aznable, works not just to enrich the lives of those who live in space, but to prepare mankind for its eventual journey out of the solar system and into the universe at large. He is aided by Haman Khan, who had once led Zeon herself, but is now content to serve as his right hand. Remnants of the old Earth Federation are present in space as well, but they do not hold the same hatreds that they did in the past. Meanwhile, the Lunar Kingdom has been facilitating the speedy resettlement of the Moon's surface, since the old moon that so many people had once lived on had been a failed weapon by the mysterious but extinct Anti-Spirals to exterminate mankind.
But a hideous evil thought to have been defeated lurks at the edge of the solar system and has been slowly making its way to the Earth Sphere to prey on the lingering fears and resentments of its people, and rekindle the madness of two years ago...
Life was pretty good for Minerva X, all things considering. Finally freed from the endless cycle of having to watch humanity die over and over, she was able to spend her days peacefully...and with her favorite thing in the world:
Mazinger Z.
Instead of simply putting the Super Robot into cold storage, the New Photon Power Institute had opted to put it on display as part of a museum exhibit celebrating its exploits alongside DREAM – the Super Robot Museum.
And Minerva was its director.
Of course, most of the true history behind the machine would never be known – as Mazinger ZERO, it had pulled the Earth Sphere into an "Orange Site" and sought to usurp control of the cosmos. It was Lifthrasir Titania, piloted by a girl from another reality, that had freed the Demon Tribe from the curse of Deathless Amon. Meanwhile, it was Mazinkaiser, Mazinger ZERO's counterpart, that had reminded the god of demons that the children of the Gold Moon were worth protecting. That had all happened when the survivors of mankind had been turned into pillars of salt as the result of the Earth being pulled into the Orange Site.
Not that she minded that it wasn't the whole truth. Every day, people of all sorts would come to visit and gaze upon the machine that had saved mankind from ultimate destruction and restored the Demon Tribe's humanity. Many demons also flocked here to pay respects to the mech, who they still quietly revered as their god.
But Minerva also had a side job – teaching the scientists of the new world about Photon Power and its potential...a duty she shared with Kouji and Sayaka. While Professor Yuumi's daughter already quite bright, and had a great deal of knowledge about Photon Power, Kouji's intelligence had blossomed.
Before you started piloting Mazinger, your only talent was riding around on your bike, Sayaka had said in regards to this. But you were able to pick it up after Minerva and I explained to you only once.
As she was leaving one of these lectures and returned to the main hall to begin the process of closing down the museum for the night, she happened to see a woman standing in front of Mazinger – one she did not remember entering at all that day. As an android, Minerva was able to link up with the museum's security cameras and play back any and all video it had recorded that day.
The woman was uncommonly attractive. She wore a dark purple outfit – her coat had lace on the collar and sleeves, but was mostly open, exposing her substantial bosom and navel - only a red strip of cloth held together by a single button kept it from bursting open. Meanwhile, her pants were extremely tight-fitting. She had dark hair, glasses that hid blood-red eyes, black gloves, a small red bow tie, and black heeled boots.
Minerva's emotional center warned her that something was off about this woman – she wasn't a human, demon or Devilman. Rather, she seemed to be something related to the forces of Outside. But she didn't want to cause a panic – everyone who had seen DREAM's conflict with Nyog'Sothep had agreed that it was better if the world didn't know about the existence of such beings.
"Excuse me," Minerva said, trying to be as friendly as possible. "Do you have a ticket?"
"Lovely robot you've got there," the woman said, completely ignoring Minerva's question.
"Yes, that is Mazinger Z," the android said. "If you do not have a ticket, I'm afraid I must ask you to leave, as we are closing for the day. As much as we'd like to let whoever we want in, we do so to ensure the museum is not..."
"Too bad the world doesn't know what it really is," the woman in purple chuckled. "I wonder what they would think if they knew the truth? Perhaps one day they'll see it for themselves."
Minerva, seemingly without issuing such a command, automatically recalled many of the moments that Mazinger had lost control to ZERO, causing them to play back in front of her vision. As this happened, the woman she had been talking to smiled and walked away, toward one of the columns in the hall.
When the android managed to regain her bearings, she quickly linked herself to the security cameras to see where the mysterious woman went. But when she viewed the footage of their conversation on the camera – there was no one there. It looked like she was talking to empty air.
"Was I hallucinating?" Minerva thought out loud. "Impossible, Dr. Kabuto wouldn't have installed such a useless function."
"Hey, Minerva," a friendly voice said. "Who was that person you were talking to?" The android whirled around to see Kouji standing there.
"You saw her too?" Minerva said. "Good then, then my optical circuits aren't going haywire."
"You seem pretty rattled," Kouji said. "Did she insult Z somehow?" Minerva sighed with relief – she could tell Kouji about this woman. Yet for some reason, the woman's words bothered the android far more.
"Do you feel that Z is lonely at all?" she said. "Do you think he will ever move again?"
"He certainly can," Kouji said, "if it's to protect people from disasters. But I don't think he'll ever have to fight again - I highly doubt that villains like Dr. Hell will arise from the people living in the world now."
"Even when a demon that still resents humanity and attacks people?" Minerva asked uneasily. "Or when a human that resents demons and Devilmen does the same thing?"
"Don't worry," Mazinger's former pilot continued; "Z's days as a fighting machine are over. There's no need for him to become a god, a demon or even a demon god anymore."
Hearing those words from the man who had piloted Mazinger Z seemed to put the android at ease. She looked back up at the Super Robot, which gleamed brightly in the sunset.
"His face seems so peaceful," Minerva said wistfully. "Almost like he's sleeping."
"I win again!" Miki Makimura jeered as she skidded to a stop. "You're so slow, Akira!" Akira Fudo came at her heels a few seconds later, flopping onto the ground exhausted.
"You always were...the fastest member of...the school track team," Fudo panted, "and I...was the...slowest." It was one of their daily rituals – the two Devilmen would race each other across the landscape at incredibly high speed for the sheer fun of it. This was possible because the two lived together in a simple house carved out of a small but comfortable cave in the open country, far away from anyone who might get caught in the fallout from their racing. Their life was simple – living off the land and hunting for meat, supplementing their diets with "civilized" food only on occasion. In spite of having come from a heavily technological upbringing, they were happy.
"Okay, slowpoke," Miki giggled. "I'll get breakfast ready." But as she started towards the entrance to their cave-home, she happened to look at the sky and spotted a light streaking to the ground at high speed.
It didn't seem to concern her initially – there were plenty of times when pieces from the destroyed Colony Nations would slip out of orbit and fall to Earth. Most of them burned up on entry – the new government made sure of that by sending groups into space to break up the largest pieces.
But when she looked again, she saw that whatever this falling object was, it wasn't burning up.
"Akira, get inside! Something's coming!" she cried before rushing into the house. Fudo looked up, saw the falling object and followed suit. Moments later, the entire landscape trembled as the object struck the ground about two miles away. Luckily, Fudo and Miki's cave-house was designed to handle such tremors, so they were in no danger from their home collapsing.
When the trembling stopped, the pair exited their abode and looked to see what had landed. To their surprise and relief, the crater created from the impact wasn't as large as they had expected it to be. It was almost as if the falling object had been trying to slow itself down...and as the two Devilmen looked more closely, they understood why.
"They're machines...mobile weapons!" Miki exclaimed. One of these was blue in places that had not burned up from entry, and the other was mostly yellow.
"Nothing like I've ever seen," Fudo said. "They could be Super Robots like Getter Robo. I wonder if their pilots are okay." Miki nodded, then began to approach the two mechs cautiously; while she didn't fear being burnt by their intense heat - since she was a Devilman with power over fire – she didn't know what else to expect. Luckily, neither machine reacted to her approach and she was able to get close to the blue one, while Fudo went over to the yellow one after he had worked up the courage to approach it. After a quick examination, Miki located what appeared to be the cockpit hatch. She grabbed hold of the hatch door and gave it a hard yank, which was enough to rip the already damaged mechanism off.
Inside the cockpit was a young man with dark-blue hair, a red shirt, a leather jacket with fur trim, finger-less gloves, jeans and a leather belt with a brass buckle. He was injured in numerous places, and was unconscious. Miki put her ear to his mouth, and felt the pilot's breath.
"Hey, Akira, I found the pilot of the blue one!" Miki said. "He's alive!"
Fudo had, by the point, also removed the hatch on the yellow one, and found a teenage girl with long red hair, a white sleeveless blouse with lace trim on the shoulders, a green tie and a short blue skirt. Like the occupant of the blue mech, she was also injured.
"Same for the pilot of the yellow one," Fudo said as he carefully picked up the unconscious girl. "Let's get 'em back to the house so they can recuperate, and then we can find out more about them after they wake up."
