A/N: Prompt originally from a list on Tumblr. Prompt 27: "Kiss me." Takes sometime after Deeks first kisses Kensi in Descent but before they went home together in Recovery.
Deeks leaned in towards Kensi, laughing at something she said. They were supposed to look like a pair of star crossed lovers out on a date. So far it had been ridiculously easy pull off. It helped that he actually was hopelessly in love with Kensi Marie Blye.
The hard part would come that night when he went home alone. Pushing that thought to the back of his head, he intertwined his fingers with hers, quickly scanning the crowd again for their suspect while he pretended to gaze into her eyes.
"Oh crap!" Kensi hissed, drawing his attention back to her. Not that it was ever that far away. She was focused on someone behind him.
"What's wrong?" he asked, resisting the urge to turn around. He squeezed Kensi's had as her gaze flicked back his.
"The guy we talked to earlier today is up at the bar," she answered.
"Has he seen you?" She lowered her head to better hide her face. To anyone else, it would look like they were having an intimate conversation.
"No, but it's only a matter of time before he does and then our covers, not to mention the case, will be compromised."
"Ok, we need to cause a distraction," Deeks said, looking for a likely suspect.
"No, we don't have time for that," she said with a sort of resigned determination. "Kiss me." Deeks mouth popped open slightly.
"What? No, we can–"
"Just kiss me before he notices me." Before could argue the point further, she took matters into her hands and bridged the gap between them. It took Deeks roughly three second to return the warm pressure of her lips against his. Without thinking he cupped the back of her head, holding her in place. It was even better than he remembered.
For a moment, he even forgot why they were kissing and reveled in the moment. Kensi didn't seem particularly eager to stop either. Her hand grasped at the hair at the name of his neck, tugging slightly.
Eventually, Kensi pulled back and looked beyond him again.
"He's gone," she said, abruptly letting go of his hand, which she'd been holding the entire time. It took all his effort not to reach for her. This was for a case, not a date, he reminded himself. "C'mon, let's get out of here before he comes back."
Deeks threw a few bills on the table and she took his hand, leading him through the crowd of people. She kept up the charade until they were in the car and then she automatically dropped his hand.
There was an awkward silence between them and he cleared his throat uncomfortably.
"Kensi–"
"It was just for the cover," she said quickly, looking anywhere but at him. Pulling in a slow breath, Deeks nodded.
"Yeah, I know." It was what she wanted to hear, even if they both knew it wasn't the truth. "I'll call Sam and Callen and let them know what happened."
As Kensi drove back to the boat shed, he wondered if they'd ever be able figure out the "thing" between them.
