Midoriya blindly followed behind Shinsou, letting the taller boy lead him back to the dorms.
He was just tired, and really just wanted to go back to the comfort of his room to sleep. As comfortable as the bed in the infirmary was, he still preferred sleeping in the safety of the dorms.
Shinsou gently pushed the door to the 1-A dorms open and made his way inside. His friends weren't doing anything too out of the ordinary; Ashido, Sero, and Kaminari were playing some games, Sato had enlisted Hagakure and Yaoyorozu's help in baking, since the duo had mentioned before how they would like to learn how to bake, and Kinu was just playing with Haku and Yuwai while their humans finished up some homework.
"Midoriya! Shinsou!" Kaminari waved his controller at them, "Want to play?"
The green haired boy tilted his head slightly, blinking in confusion, almost as if he wasn't even too sure what Kaminari was asking him to do.
Shinsou raised an eyebrow, and turned towards the smaller boy. He didn't think that asking Midoriya to play computer games was an appropriate response, given what had happened in the cafeteria, but at the very least, the electric blonde was smart enough to not ask about what had just transpired.
"How about later, if he feels up to it?" Shinsou offered, "Recovery Girl said that he should just sleep a bit more."
"Alright!" Kaminari shot them a thumbs up, "I have a ton of games that I think you'll enjoy!"
Midoriya nodded tiredly, and Shinsou just grabbed his arm, and gently pulled him towards the elevators.
Shinsou gazed down at the boy's sleeping form, gently running his fingers through Midoriya's soft hair. He was just trying to finish up some mathematics homework, and since his room was closer to the elevator than Midoriya's, the greenette just decided to sleep in his room, and pretty much fell asleep the second his head made contact with the bed.
He could still see some faint tear tracks on Midoriya's face, and Shinsou just brushed his thumb over them lightly, before he heard a knock on his door.
"Come in?" Shinsou asked, raising his head in confusion, and the door slowly opened.
Sato poked his head into the room, "Err... I know I asked Uraraka about this already... but I'm starting on dinner and I was wondering if there was anything Midoriya liked eating in particular?"
Shinsou slumped against the wall, and let out a small sigh, "I doubt that he would wake up in time for dinner. Right now, he's emotionally exhausted... and I know from personal experience that it's much more draining than just regular exhaustion."
"I see." Sato nodded understandingly, "Well... is there something you would like to eat? I can bring it up later?"
Shinsou shook his head, "I doubt I'll be hungry that quickly... Don't worry about dinner... I can go down and cook something once he wakes up."
Sato raised an eyebrow, "You can cook?"
The lavender haired boy shrugged, "Just some simple stuff. Fried rice, porridge, maybe some frozen dumplings, if we have them in the first place... of course, there's instant noodles..."
Sato's expression softened, "I'd rather you two eat something other than instant noodles. Eating them occasionally is alright, but they lack crucial vitamins and minerals, and they have way too much salt and monosodium glutamate. I'll leave some of the leftover rice in a container and in the fridge for you; I trust you to try and cook something healthier."
"Alright, thanks." Shinsou nodded.
With that, Sato closed the door, and Shinsou looked at the door, before turning back down to Midoriya. The boy shifted slightly and blearily opened his eyes, blinking up at the taller boy, having been woken up by the closing door.
Midoriya looked up at Shinsou with large, tired eyes, "... who?"
"Just Sato. He was just asking about food. We can deal with that later. Just get a bit more sleep, alright?" Shinsou replied, and the greenette nodded weakly, "Okay."
Midoriya made himself comfortable, before he went back to sleep. Shinsou let out another sigh, and went right back to finishing up his homework.
Shinsou pulled the door of the fridge open, trying to find the rice that Sato had left for them.
By the time Midoriya finally felt fully rested, it had already been three hours after the rest of his classmates finished with their dinner. The dishes and cutlery were all washed, and the table had already been cleared, but that really wasn't a problem for Shinsou, since it wasn't too hard to make fried rice.
He had already found the frozen peas and shredded ham that was usually stocked in the fridge since they were pretty versatile ingredients that Bakugou threw in literally anything he cooked if he was feeling particularly lazy, but there were so many other containers in the refrigerator that he wasn't too sure how he was even going to being trying to find the leftover rice.
Midoriya just stood next to him, and tilted his head in confusion as the lavender haired boy dug around in the fridge, and finally found the container of rice that was hidden amongst the other various containers of snacks and tidbits, "What are you doing?"
"Making dinner." Shinsou stated matter-of-factly, grabbing a medium-sized pan out of one of the cupboards, "I'm not going to let you go hungry, you know?"
"I'm... not really hungry though..." Midoriya muttered softly, and Shinsou whirled around, raising an eyebrow, "That's not a valid excuse to not take care of yourself."
"I... didn't know you could cook though." Midoriya just blinked, watching as Shinsou started up the stove and poured a small amount of cooking oil into the pan. The lavender haired boy dumped the cold rice out of the plastic container and into the pan, before he grabbed a spoon and stirred the rice continuously, making sure to break up all the clumps of rice until they were mixed evenly with the oil.
"Well... my dad taught me to cook some basic stuff. Fried rice, microwavable or steamed food... just some simple stuff that can be prepared in a few minutes. As convenient as instant noodles are... I don't think I'd want to have that for every meal." Shinsou replied, "Can you pass me the peas and ham?"
Midoriya wordlessly passed the two items over, and Shinsou just poured them into the pan, continuing to mix them, before deciding to add a bit more oil since the mixture looked a bit too dry for his liking.
"Have you ever cooked before?" Shinsou asked, stirring the fried rice around the pan to make sure that everything was cooked properly, "Like... before the training camp?"
"Not... really." Midoriya admitted, "I... wasn't really allowed in the kitchen. I even had a kettle in my own room just for instant noodles. But... before my parents died..."
The smaller boy clenched his fists slightly, "I watched my mom cook dinner... and my dad tried to burn microwavable pizza several times with his quirk in an attempt to barbeque it..."
"Sorry... shouldn't have asked." Shinsou bit his lip; after his outburst during lunch, he still wasn't too sure how emotionally stable Midoriya was, and he really didn't mean to ask anything that would bring up memories of the past that could potentially upset the smaller boy.
"It's alright." Midoriya glanced up at the taller boy, before he turned his attention back to the stove, "Back then... it was nice... but I guess... I never really learned to cook anything."
The two boys stood there quietly, watching the fried rice sizzling in the pan atop the stove, before Shinsou spoke up again, breaking the silence, "If you want... I can teach you how to cook something simple."
There was more silence, until Midoriya nodded slightly, "I'd... like that."
"Yeah." Shinsou stirred the rice around a bit more, before he deemed his fried rice to be done, and switched off the stove, "Can you grab two plates?"
Midoriya reached out for two plates on the drying rack, and passed them over to Shinsou, who carefully scooped the fried rice out of the pan and onto the plates, making sure that one plate had more rice than the other; he wouldn't force Midoriya to eat too much if he didn't want to.
Shinsou emptied out the pan, and left it on the stove, giving it some time to cool before he washed it, as Midoriya placed the two plates of fried rice on the table. The taller boy grabbed two forks and spoons out of the drawer, before he handed a set of utensils to Midoriya, "Come on, let's eat before the rice gets cold."
When they were done with their late dinner, Midoriya opted to wash the dishes, since Shinsou had done most of the work cooking, and the taller boy decided to see what kind of game that Kaminari and Ashido were playing this time. Sero and Kirishima were also present, but Sero was content just watching, and Kirishima was multitasking between doing his homework, and watching his friends play video games.
He grabbed a can of cold coffee from the fridge, popped it open with the tab, and Shinsou took his caffeinated beverage to the common room, leaning against the back of the couch as he watched Kaminari using the keyboard of his laptop to move some small character around the screen, trying to dodge the flurry of bullets from another character that was filling up the entire screen.
"What's this?" Shinsou asked, taking a sip of his can, and Kaminari let out a small groan as he got hit by one of the bullets, and ending his game since he had run out of lives by that point. The electric blonde turned around, and waved his hand at the screen as Ashido decided that it was her turn to play, "A bullet hell shoot 'em up game. It's a pretty long-running series, and there's a bunch of games so far. And the music is super good!"
"Huh." Shinsou blinked, sitting down on the armrest as he watched Ashido start playing. She got through the first stage rather quickly, and then the second stage, but half her accumulated lives were taken out by the third stage midboss, and when the boss of the third stage appeared, who was apparently the same as the midboss, Ashido quickly lost her remaining lives.
"Are all the mid bosses the same as the final bosses for each stage?" Shinsou asked, as Ashido shrugged, shifting to make room for Kaminari to play, "Some are the same, some are different."
Midoriya exited the kitchen, wiping his hands on the towel that Yaoyorozu had just decided to hang around the doorknob, before he walked over to Shinsou, and peered at the screen that everyone was looking at, "Game?"
"Yeah!" Ashido nodded, "Game!"
Shinsou had to be honest, this kind of game seemed pretty interesting. It was very repetitive and pattern-based, but while some attacks were just shot out to cover a wide area, some actually were homing bullets, and were aimed directly at the player character's location when they were shot out. There was actually another kind of bullet that just seems to stalk the player character around the screen, but they moved relatively slowly, and Shinsou didn't see too many of that kind of projectiles anyways.
Then some of them just had the enemy character moving around the screen, so that was pretty interesting as well.
Midoriya just gazed at the screen as a flurry of rainbow coloured projectiles filled the screen, eliciting a yelp from Kaminari as he tried his best to avoid them.
"This seems rather difficult." Shinsou commented, taking another swig of his coffee, before he passed the can to Midoriya, who took a small sip before giving the can back to the taller boy.
"Yeah, I know, right!?" Sero exclaimed, "Can you believe that this is Easy mode?!"
"... what?" Shinsou raised an eyebrow, before Kirishima pointed to the top right corner of the screen, where there was the word "Easy" displayed on the screen, "Yeah! It's that difficult! Have you seen Lunatic mode? That mode is just crazy!"
"... it's in the name." Shinsou deadpanned, and Kaminari laughed, "Yeah, yeah, smartass. You two want to give it a go?"
"Some other time. I haven't finished my Mathematics homework." The lavender haired boy shrugged, and Midoriya glanced at the floor, "... maybe... weekend?"
Kaminari and Ashido's faces instantly lit up, "Really?! AWESOME!"
Midoriya blinked, confused, and Ashido shot to her feet, and stuck her arm out, giving Midoriya a thumbs up, "It's on!"
The greenette just nodded, still not too sure what was going on, watching as Ashido and Kaminari both cheered, with Sero joining in the celebration, as Kirishima hurriedly finished his question before joining in as well.
"SHUT UP, ASSHOLES!" Bakugou screamed, stomping down the stairs, "The fuck are you on?!"
"Midoriya agreed to play video games with us!" Ashido grinned from ear to ear, running over to Bakugou and jumping in his face, only for the explosive blonde to shove her away, not saying anything else as he stormed over to the kitchen, "You shits better finish all of your fucking homework! Or I'll kill you all!"
Shinsou just patted Midoriya's head gently, and the green haired boy looked up at him, still very much confused, before he turned back to the excited group of students who were all making plans to have a game night.
At least, everyone seemed happy. They were going to have their end-of-the-year examinations soon, but there was no harm in having a little fun before it started, right?
